I remember when most of the people and friends I knew were a fan of Blizzard that when I was a young lad, they would go to public computers to play WoW at schools, libraries, and day cares if they weren't at home. And then years later Overwatch has become this massive thing that couldn't be escaped. I didn't hate it, but it was everywhere. I never got into these games because I didn't own a computer, and I liked to play games on my portable DS and I started to really get into reading. These past few years, when I ask them their thoughts on (what were recent) events, general consensus amoung my friends is that Blizzard is destroying the years of goodwill built, but the memories of their childhood won't make them regret playing Blizzard's games. After the Overwatch 2 announcement, whenever something new comes up, they have a look in their eyes that really makes me think that it was a really good thing I never got into these games. I feel bad for the people who enjoy (or used too) these games, as more controversy and have the screws turned in on them. My apologies for a long winded ramble. TLDR; I feel bad for the fans.
funnily enough, one of the few promises that ow 2 seems to be keeping is their promess to bring the number of supports and tanks in line with the dps roster.
they dont need Bell to shill as much, they still have Taliesin and Evitel to do the heavy shill lifting. When they "criticize" its the most creampuff limp wristed criticisms, even softer of a softball that Bell used to throw.
I don't really blame them, there is an audience for everything, as it is a spectrum and it's clearly what they do well :) I think every voice has a space to be heard
Tip: for anyone who doesn't wanna support Diablo4 try Grimdawn it plays like classic Diablo or Gauntlet complete with loot fest, it has classes and masteries (combined 2 classes to create a 3rd) the story is unique (the world already suffered it's gameover) it has three expansions so far with a 4th coming out next year ( 2 main game expansions a reward based arena and the next one is another main game expansion and all of them are quality with lots of new content complete with new classes new maps new gear new enemies etc. )and the Devs are still indie so there is no corporate bullshit interferes with the creativity
6:48 kind of the rand() function is kind of like a dice roll but it is a CPU compute function that when you do it it has to complete the entire thing before going onto the next one. Every number is a 32-bit number to go onto to be stored in 32-bit data registers which most likely went into system RAM before being used which the path to and from system RAM is slow compared to that of L1. Comparing picoseconds to nanoseconds. 100 picoseconds = 1 nanosecond and today the quickest DDR5 is only 8.75 nanosecnods to go through and retrieve data not including the path there and back so lots slower as DDR1 where 12.01nanoseconds is the quickest. 4ns doesn't sound like a lot but it compounds upon itself when you have millions of requests for data. The fix was most likely to have it turned into a load that can be spread over multiple physical CPUs instead of just 1. How that will work is to divide up the requests for what account is doing what where between physical hardware instead of having all done on 1. Dual socket CPU and quad socket CPU board exist for this reason though having more than 2 dual socket physical servers most times is better than quad socket CPU boards. The load is divided and you can have them act as 1 unit in software. So kind of but not really when you get into the why the lag in WoW happened.
Overwatch loot crates was ironically better for free to play players I didnt see the issue with it because just by playing the game I unlocked all the skins I wanted when I played.
I'm an ancient one. I was there when games used to have to play the ducking game to get skins and characters! Man that was why you solo played fighting games: So that you have more characters and skins the next time your friends came over to play! Dead or Alive 6 more or less removed all that: Now you just have to buy it instead. As I told a friend: I don't mind buying it per se... if they just... gave me some damn gameplay to go with it. A game doesn't become more fun because I unlocked a skin, a game was fun because I was trying to unlock THAT skin...
What pisses me off is that with overwatch, their 20 and 40 dollar packs have CLEARLY taken the skins originally themed for the pass and locked them behind a paywall, and terrible reskins and just blandness is in the pass itself. All the best skins, sometimes better than the "mythic" (which has steadily lost any charm instantly, they suck now) are behind the 40 dollar pack.
imagine going to the steam store to look at call of duty, and the DLCs alone stack up to 4 digits in price... i wish that i was kidding... 1,904 in total... and it's without the game itself, which is also an added 744 if you want both MW 2 and 3... or 844 if it's the vault edition... i kid you not, i can buy an RTX 4070 for the same total price... and i would still have enough to buy the game Black Mesa... just... just think about that for half a second...
3:48 It might seem like the staggered release of things is to keep players spending but the main reason is to make the game more enjoyable. Having access to everything on release will make people play for like a week and then quit forever cuz there is nothing to do anymore and then people would cry about there being "no content" which they still do ofc, just not as much as they would.
The value proposition is simple: It cost them nothing to make (or next to nothing), and then there's always some idiot who buys it. Now you earned 50 dollars. The value is in the fact that SOME people will buy it. Sadnly probably more people than we would like to think
Found this in my recommended. I'm so glad that I never fell down to the rabbit hole that is WoW, and instead I decided to put my time and money into Final Fantasy XIV. Sure, they still have kind of an expensive cash store, but nothing there really triggers FOMO - for me at least. The other reason I stand by my decision, is that the dev team and especially Yoshi-P really do care about their playerbase. With how bad OW2 is getting...I'm one foot out the door and ready to quit playing Actiblizz games altogether. Here's to hoping the Microsoft merger comes with much needed improvements.
Blizzard gamers have been complaining like it is the end of the world for 4 years now, how many companies would actually survive this kind of constant bad PR, blizzard: the cockroach of game companies
It's because there is no shortage of ignorant fools who'll still buy this shit and Blizzard still has tons of money to burn through before they get into serious trouble. Or they piss off the shareholders finally...I'm just wondering how old I'm going to get before all this shit comes crashing down.
That's the problem, all Blizzers do is complain. They don't put their money where the mouth is and walk away. If nobody paid for Blizzard's products, they would eventually collapse.
Companies telling you that some digital asset has a $50 value because they said so is hilarious. Buy my old shoes a $1 million value but you can have them for just $10.
The sad thing is if they just made the games good and delivered on the stuff the fans want, they could put all the other monetization scams in as well and people wouldn’t complain.

It might be predatory business practices and soulless corporatism, but think of it this way... Bobby's yacht made of pure gold isn't gonna pay for itself!
My least favorite dungeon in the history of the game is Zul Furak. It relies on lots of enemies in place of difficulty, the layout is boring and feels last minute. Which in actuality it was. Its also in an area that has nothing else going on, at least in Classic. My least favorite introduced in TBC was the one in the underground arena near Shattrath city. The one with all the raven people.
Make you a deal, my new fav friend. I’ll sacrifice my time doing the gross math and learning if you’ll be willing to try a game I made lmao. But in all seriousness, I feel you on the mixed feelings on games retrospectively. Maybe one day games can be more for fun/entertainment than scamming kids and fans out of every nickel and dime. Keep being you, my snowy Kitsune!
I'm just waitin got Acti/Blizz to be sold to Microsoft so I can make 10 bucks a share from when I bought it lol I figured I can get enough dividends to get my money back. Slowly workin out. For reference, I own Warcraft 3, Diablo 1-3, and played Warcraft 1, 2, and WoW to the day before Cataclysm came out. The last thing I did was get cooked by the big bad dragon. My fav time in WoW was the Blood plague. PS: I jumped off the Blizz boat all together back during Diablo 3. I just wanted to play singleplayer or co-op. I woulda been fine if you didn't need to load battlenet to not play on battlenet. Like just have battlenet and the auction be it's own add-on with it's own character saves, and not force me to sign in online to play offline. And it just went downhill from there.
Imagine thinking a Free-to-Play video game is actually "Free" just because it says so on the label... It's just Leeching. Mooching off of people who actually pay the price, which then ends up keeping the servers alive so you can play _free_ without thinking about the consequences. Consumers have become so mentally broken to accept predatory business practices in the video game industry. 😓
You get away with feeding lies to employees if you only employ people that have an irrational love for your brand. You can work these people to the bone and they will still sing your praises. That's basically Blizzard's interview. "Do you love Blizzard?" No wonder that they employed a bunch of creeps who don't know what they are doing.
The sad thing we need to realize is that it won't change. We are invested in games, but we are the few. Most players are consumers. They do not care! Sure, maybe they lose 5 - 20% of the players, but these were never going to pay much more than the upfront price anyway. To them, it's worth it as long as the remaining 80% averagly pay an additional 30% of the upfront price. The owners of these companies are not really evil. They are businessman, not gamers. Making a buisnes more profitable with les effort being put in is what they learned. AAA games are no longer overseen people who care much about games in any other way than their monetary value. Games are now products, no longer art or a form of expression. Long gone are the days where games had to be good because no casual gamers existed. The only thing we can really do is trying to stop the more outrages changes and move on to small publishers who still care.
it's almost circling back to the chicken or the egg - if we didn't have these practices, would people still do this? aren't we just teaching our children that this is normal behavior that didn't use to exist? it's not "ultimately" evil, it's just min-maxing profit
i will die on this hill, lootboxes in ow 1 were never a problem, so what if its random chance, they are skins, and u dont need to buy a single one my friend that came into ow 2 with me with the conversion had like 100 or something saved up cuz he refused to use them, i had quite a few skins and i never once bought them, it is extremely sad how far we have fallen
This is one of the things I have noticed about loot boxes, unless they go valve style where you have to pay money to open them, even gambling company owned games are fairly generous with giving you loot boxes, odds are you are getting jack shit, but they have so much 'good' stuff, they dont care if you hit jackpot on a 1:200 chance, thats 1 in 200, and you need to do it 300 more times to get everything. for normal people, this gives me far FAR more incentive to play a game I like then 'pay be 30$ for a skin' games where I use to be able to earn skins... I like fps games, but its really hard to get into an fps game where the only thing you do is get a score, I like progress getting me something, but when they sell skins, what you earn in game will either look like shit or be a hellish grind I never want to do. tldr, literal gambling is better than the current state of microtransactions, less people had to suffer.
38:28 a skin could be one with 1 artist and take maybe a week once you have a base model, but lets assume they have several people working on it to save time, still essentially a single person billable week, so 1000-2500$ for 1 skin to be made, at 30~$ means you need to sell between 35 and 1000 to fully pay for the development time of it, and in a game that has around 400k active players daily, the skins can be a long tail sale plan, take a look at dead or alive if you really want to see some egregious shit, they essentially make 3 skins, then resize them or fit all the characters, and bloated the base game to cost I think 3500$ to have everything, and you have people defend this bullshit, and these are things I, an amature, could do in 1 day with marvelous design, at least blizzard needs to have an artist to make their stuff.
59:52 for a bit of context if no one knows, legacy of steel was one of if not the highest end guild in the game on nameless, ring events are events that you start off by being in the area, contrasted with raid bosses who are just there for you to engage, quite a lot of luclin was fucked for a long time, and usually the expansions came out with massive fuck off quests, the vex thal key is a really shit one, as a way to stop gap players so they can finish making the content, planes of power had a lot of its end game stuff still unfinished when it went live. seru was fucked was an end game encounter for luclin which had a relatively involved quest, the only way to get to him original eas an exploit and people were gifted I believe 'The earing of sad exploitation' for winning the fight. also at this time they were still trying to limit player power outside of the expansion while increasing the power you do in the expansion, so to actually do damage to some encounters you needed specific weapons for that race which would double your dmg, I believe luclin was also the first expansion with VERY scripted encounters, so a lot of these scripts to this day still fucking break for next to no reason. but burrower primarily works because its just an escalating encounter where more and more mobs spawn as long as you are in the area till it's over. I only got to play most of these higher end stuff a near decade after the content was out and when individual player power could trivialize it, it was 'fun' but largely frustrating at the time, especially because luclin was a massive step up for pc requirements as well, fun playing everquest at 1fps, only the east commonlands tunnel use to get anywhere near near that bad but that was due to several hundred people being in the area at once, luclin could do this with no one near you. the bazaar, east commonlands tunnel replacement, was near 1 frame every 2 minutes looking down.
The first thing he brings up is just a time sink even if its good for f2p its pushing as little content as possible for the most amount of time wasted weekly rotating “free” cosmetic that have existed in the game for cash not only spits on the buyer but also the player bc you could’ve waited to get the stuff for free also its like saying your money is worth less than your time in our games
Heroic Oculus wasn’t bad as long as one of the idiots didn’t jump on red or green. Halls of Reflection is probably the most annoying even though it’s awesome from a lore and design perspective. Should have been a way to speed up the role play a bit.
I think Bellular is getting better with not simping but there's always an element of Blizzard loyalty despite the critique - same with Asmon. The company is dead and basically mobile game levels of greed and effort nowadays.
Sorry not sorry spent a few minutes rewatching the first 6 seconds, Papaya Paya Papaya Paya Pa Pa Paya Pa. Also, was so happy to have something to play with people with D4 only to have to drop it before first season even dropped because was just impossible to see over the mountain of shit I could tell was coming. ;-;
It will nevwe not be funny to me how Blizzard just took a perfectly healthy Overwatch 1 out back and shot it in the head in order to cannibalize it for sequel material that they hardly even delivered.
The company using these much micro-transaction should be called Legal Organized Crime. And let's stop calling these thing micro-transaction. Those are no Macro-transactions. I'm not putting 1 or 2 weeks worth of grocery to get some month of special virtual item that can just disappear as soon as the game also disappear.
i like how everyone is like "500$ for dlc, that is ALOT", meanwhile im just looking at train simulator and chuckles, "how about 9k$ for all dlc's" now THAT is alot, now don't get me wrong, 500 IS alot, it's just it is a comparable drop in the bucket compared to some games, at this point im just like "yeah, it's just gonna get worse and worse cuz of stupid whales with money for brains, i just hope they all burn thru their money on fomo mtx's and can't buy food", yes i went there, nothing'll change until ppl that spend 50k+ on freaking gacha games die out ahh yes, the OW 2 "story" is basically if you bought WC3, and then had to pay like 5$ for a couple of missions, back then blizzard would've burned to the ground for that shit, but today it's a okay, it is shit like this where im like "yeah, humans are scum"

"Do you love Blizzard?"
No wonder that they employed a bunch of creeps who don't know what they are doing.
The only thing we can really do is trying to stop the more outrages changes and move on to small publishers who still care.
it's almost circling back to the chicken or the egg - if we didn't have these practices, would people still do this? aren't we just teaching our children that this is normal behavior that didn't use to exist?
it's not "ultimately" evil, it's just min-maxing profit
i will die on this hill, lootboxes in ow 1 were never a problem, so what if its random chance, they are skins, and u dont need to buy a single one my friend that came into ow 2 with me with the conversion had like 100 or something saved up cuz he refused to use them, i had quite a few skins and i never once bought them, it is extremely sad how far we have fallen
free game are the most expensive, they make the most amount of money, making a free game is a calculated move not a gift for players.
1:21:03 there's 1 woman in that picture... And she's the only one not smiling 🤣
Bananaless thighs cost more-alana 2023
I think Bellular is getting better with not simping but there's always an element of Blizzard loyalty despite the critique - same with Asmon. The company is dead and basically mobile game levels of greed and effort nowadays.
Still I never forgive them what they did to warcraft 3
I now know about 2 based vtubers (Pippa is the second one)
I look up to pippa a lot:)
Sorry not sorry spent a few minutes rewatching the first 6 seconds, Papaya Paya Papaya Paya Pa Pa Paya Pa.
Also, was so happy to have something to play with people with D4 only to have to drop it before first season even dropped because was just impossible to see over the mountain of shit I could tell was coming. ;-;
Baldur's gate has 3 player coop. :D
It's a finished game too.
I'm not putting 1 or 2 weeks worth of grocery to get some month of special virtual item that can just disappear as soon as the game also disappear.
i like how everyone is like "500$ for dlc, that is ALOT", meanwhile im just looking at train simulator and chuckles, "how about 9k$ for all dlc's" now THAT is alot, now don't get me wrong, 500 IS alot, it's just it is a comparable drop in the bucket compared to some games, at this point im just like "yeah, it's just gonna get worse and worse cuz of stupid whales with money for brains, i just hope they all burn thru their money on fomo mtx's and can't buy food", yes i went there, nothing'll change until ppl that spend 50k+ on freaking gacha games die out
ahh yes, the OW 2 "story" is basically if you bought WC3, and then had to pay like 5$ for a couple of missions, back then blizzard would've burned to the ground for that shit, but today it's a okay, it is shit like this where im like "yeah, humans are scum"
I play ffxiv but at lest i have a discount on my sub and they never increases the sub
