For reference, Fallout 76 doesn't limit your inventory like this because they need to "load every other player's inventory." Fallout. 76. Handles its multiplayer elements better than Diablo 4.

II was excited about Diablo 4 and bought two for my 17 year old granddaughter and myself because she loves video games! We played together but she quit last week. She wasn't interested and although it brought us together I suspect the game was the problem. I'm 77 years old so I hope we can find another game to play together or Diablo 4 improves.

:) that is so sweet of you, I hope you find the game as well! I would recommend Path of Exile, but is a bit steeper in difficulty learning and requires more time investment in understanding the game (there are many, many videos and guides for beginners). It is also free! It does have a microtransaction shop but it is completely unnecessary if you just want to spend your time playing through the "story" :) best of luck

I think it was absolutely the game. Sit down with her, tell her it makes you happy to play together, and ask if there's any other multiplayer games she might be interested in.
I highly recommend Deeprock Galactic as an amazing shooter without stupid microtransactions, and the difficulty can be set to match your abilities. Heck, even the old Diablo 2 (not the remaster!) which you can still buy for like 15 bucks (the page isn't linked to, but it exists and you can get it) is much better!!
If you want an efficiency simulator - build a machine to churn out parts to build more machines to churn out more parts, etc. - Satisfactory is incredibly fun! Seriously, I swear the game will have you going "one more little tweak here" and suddenly it's 5 hours later and you lost track of time. Josh from Lets Game It Out has an incredible "playthrough" of it. It doesn't require much more than some math skills and almost no reflexes whatsoever.
If your granddaughter likes MMOs, Final Fantasy 14 has some amazing story, and is very very casual. If you want to gush about characters and stories, the game can be played basically together from the get-go with only a few instances of needing to drop group for a cutscene or fight. (and if the fight is too hard, you can turn the difficulty down there too!) - and the obligatory gushing about the free trial which I'm sure you've seen all over the place.

For context on the memed clip at the start, the various sports teams of Cleveland, Ohio are notorious for their abysmal losing streak on the national level. Between 1965 and 2020, their three sporting teams won only a *single* championship in 2016. I remember being in town visiting family that week and the entire city basically shut down to celebrate the win.

22:15 its basically the "pulling the ripcord" tactic that Activision Blizzard has been pulling for *years*
They announce a system, players see the system is broken, warn the devs, system gets released broken anyway, players *leave* , devs fix the system in 2 days, copium filled players come back thinking the devs are actually listening to them.
    *Rinse and repeat*
The only upside is that people have gotten so tired of this sh!t that they've moved on to playing other games that respect their time like FF14 or Baldur's Gate 3

47:14 yeah putting new code on top of old code over and over will cause problems at some point where an old bug in the base game that never showed back then suddenly shows in the new content and you need to find the cause in the millions of lines of code. I talk to a guy that "programms" his own small game and do some basic bug finding for him. And from time to time this problem shows up where he needs more time to fix a bug because after finding and fixing the basic bug a new one arrises from that and it just snowballs through every single update

    This always reminds me how Mihoyo, a GACHA game company , came out with genshin that had the dreaded gacha label on it and still managed to make people fall in love with the company. How ? Well by putting love and passion into the game and making a good product first that it makes people WANT to spend money, because they see themselves investing in a game that is good, and not HAVE to spend money on a game in the hopes of it getting better later. Though i already knew genshin was going to be big since i played honkai impact , and everyone knows how much love the devs and Da Wei himself have for that project ;_;

So, TenCent is a company owned by the CCP, they dump millions into the laps of other companies and buy their stocks to control a large chunk of their assets and data. they are major data brokers that sell their info not only to the CCP, but to other companies around the world. One of their major points is collecting chat data and location data. But, they also push major influence on companies they have stakes in to censor them or such so they can fit into the chinese market from the base game.
Several companies such as CDPR and Epic games have been pushing censorship and even destroying indie games that have negative points against the CCP and its dictator leader.

9,000 Devs, that sounds impressive until you realize that in the 6 year development cycle. Acti-Blizzard went through several rounds of mass layoffs. How many teams got purged and of those devs who got shafted only then have new people come take their places. Which means that they would have to relearn and maybe try to put their own spin on the work that was left behind only for them to get purged later on too.
Obviously people will always leave during long term projects but when you have mass layoffs on top of that especially ones that make Bobby K and the shareholders happy, then you can't expect a good product.

PoE solved the gem tab issue long ago. They just made stuff that stacks so you don't have each scroll of wisdom or armorers scrap take up its own slot in your inventory.
The actual stash tab stacks thousands of each "currency" type item.
There's no reason Diablo 4 couldn't do the same with items that are essentially identical such a gems or elixirs.

Activision said they can't do anything for me so I went off about how 1-click buying with the A button is insane. They ended up making it 2-click and X to buy a few days later.

i was a long time diablo fan. it was my whole childhood. i remember watching my dad play D1. i remember having to turn the game off during the bossfight of the second quest of the first act of d2, having nightmares about andariel in d2.
and i stopped at the end of d3's life cycle after 3 playthroughs and 4 seasonal characters. the last season i've played was my awakening. after a thousandth run of "the caldean sewers", the 50th run of getting carried by a stronger dude, and having a full chest and 9 mules to hold objects so i could extract their abilities, i was staying there thinking "that's all there is... a pointless grind for that small of a reward? who am i showing that off to? why am i inflicting this to myself?"
when it comes to grindy loot games, i found my love in warframe. community is cool. it has a lot of things to do (quality varies, but that's how it goes. ask FF14 about post ARR/pre-Heavensward) it feels good to play, it's fun. and the game respects your time-investment.

As a bdo player... I played 3 months of wow with 5 of my friends during legion. Most of us quit after the 2nd raid (I think it was hall of something, with the Greek God looking stuff). I quit until bfa came out and bought it hoping to do it again, and realized that my legendary fishing pole was the only item I would miss if I threw away all my other legendaries and top tier gear from a few weeks ago. I replaced my legendary ring that I grinded for months for a trash green ring which double the stats and no fun extra stuff. I Uninstalled, went back to bdo and all my gear was still there from 2 years ago and I felt at home again. Bdo may be a grind, but at least when you get to the top of the mountain they don't delete the mountain and start you at the bottom again.

One thing that needs to be emphasized, accidentally clicking something doesn't always mean you were looking at it and clicked it because you didn't read. It can be a misclick, your cat could be on your desk, tossing your controller onto the couch can click something, you could have a disability that makes misclicks more frequent (I would think these companies that pander to special interest groups would be scared of the backlash of forcing a disabled person into a purchase), etc.

55:32 The Devs' intention its not creating a more compelling gaming experience with all these little variables, its to make you waste time and want to spend money to save time. Elden Ring has a compelling manner of adding complexity, if you want, to the game, Bloodborne does too.
There are ways and ways of adding stuff, and there is a difference between strategy crafting and doing chores. Its the same case and in pokemon: Most people that play in tournaments just hack in the pokemon they want because its too time consuming to try and test strategies with different pokemon and its just unviable if you want to focus on the competitive stuff, which is the interesting part (not even mentioning that recent pokemon games might change what moves these pokemon used to be able to learn in the past, and not all pokemon from the past are available in the later games, so you need to buy the other games if the meta involves an older pokemon)
The other things surrounding the asinine complexity of the system proves that the design choice its not one of making a more compelling experience for seasoned players, but just push as much people as possible to spend money.

To be fair, Whoopi likely has a $10-20k+ Mac Pro production level machine, with multiple Xeon CPUs, 128GB+ RAM, top end Tesla GPUs, and such, so gaming can be absolutely done on those more than decently. Just... Not on MacOS.
A true gamer would set it up to dual-boot Windows or Linux, and game on there, taking advantage of all that power.
If she's using a new Arm A76/VideoCore SOC... oh, I'm sorry, M2 Mac, however... Not a gamer. At all.
Sauce: I've been a graphic artist and gamer for decades, and my work machine has always had the biggest budget, therefore the best top end hardware. Of course I gamed on them. Always will. Gimme more FPS....

However, i would recommend to pause even more and comment on damn near every thought that pops into your head while watching the video. There's a podcast called EFAP that does this and they can make a 20 minute video into three hours of commentary. EFAP stands for every frame a pause and that might as well be literal with them. We went from marketing people being given a product and told to sell as much of it as possible, to marketing people telling others to make something as cheaply as possible and fill it with anti-consumer design so they can sell it at a great profit margin. Marketing people should never have anything to do with the product itself, just how to sell it.
But when the marketing practically work as a multiplier against the product quality and company size for the revenue, they quickly end up in charge. Then the company grows so large that even if the product quality 0.00001, it still makes a profit so it's fine.

so glad, Blizzard can rely on people trying to board the hypetrain anyway. They don't have to learn from their mistakes because thanks to the hypetrain, it was absolutely worth it. blobby approves of these people. He is still single though, can the hypetrain plz fix that too?

25:15 That sounds like a Blizzard cultist. There are many of them among gamers. People who would jump in front of a bullet to protect a multibillion company that is actively squeezing them for every penny they have. Literally like a cult. They were attracted with good feelings, they forged good memories, and now they are bound do to the leader's bidding, whatever it may be.

Imagine an RTS where each unit and building cost actual money, but if you destroy the units and buildings of an enemy you GAIN money.
P2W writ large. The developers just take 0.5 % of the transactions, using that money to develop new maps, balance units and work towards implementing more factions.
Why fight the P2W if you can make it the official purpose of the game? Pay to win and win to earn.
In addition to the win/loss ratio, you have a spent/earned ratio. Does this player win because they throw money into the fire or do they win on skill while consistently earning money and cutting their losses when they're in a bad position?
Ranks could give you access to bigger campaigns with multiple players and the top games could feature gambling on the outcome.
Come to me, my beautiful wallet warriors. Let us dance in a fight of credit cards!
Winning also gives you some currency for meta progression to advance your units, structures and maybe even commander and unit abilities, allowing you to specialize and customize your troops as you play.

    Can't wait for Warcraft 4:
    Units cost real money
Research costs massive amounts of gold and lumber that you will not get in less than an hour via f2p methods
Custom maps like Dota 1, Sunken City and Uther's Party are locked behind battlepasses
Attack and Armor types are gone, just build the units with the highest hp and damage
Tournaments are boiled down to Blizzard employees standing next to pro players who keep forking over dollars to outwhale one another

A year late but Diablo 3 had a lot of similar loot with items for specific moves. It was less of an issue though because certain bosses had guaranteed items with scaling loot. I always played crusader and could grind for my specific playstyle with my brother. He’d use his bone armour necromancer with corpse explosion to grind our characters. I love grinding, but not when it’s paywalled or more complex than the last release. Baldur’s gate meant importing constantly so I enjoyed the fact that we still had to fight scaled enemies for grinding. I don’t even want to try these new games. Hence I just endlessly replay paradox- they’ve taken thousands from me but I’ve never felt cheated because I don’t LOSE content on a new purchase. DLC adds, not hinders, and dlc can be disabled if disliked

When they got bought by Activision. Y'know, the company that was long known as one of the Four Kings of Gaming Scumbag Business Practices (not counting the console manufacturers, all 3 are scummy in different flavors), alongside EA, Ubisoft, and Square Enix?

It’s getting to the point that Blizzard should pull a Final Fantasy 14. Have an in-universe cataclysmic event and just desert the servers altogether with new code and start again from scratch.

too much money not enough return on investment for them sadly
I have no idea why square enix did it, love of the franchise or what-not
but it was probably millions down the drain at that point and activision would sooner pull the plug than do that
besides, the game still makes good money for them through microtransactions and monthly billing from millions at the moment, it would have to legitimately be a loss of profit for it to turn around at this point

    • @Dragon_Lair

@@SmugAlana If you ever have the time, I'd watch the youtube series called "The Fall and Rise of Final Fantasy 14". It goes into a great deal of detail regarding the development of Final Fantasy 14, it's 1.0 launch, when Yoshi-P took over and the decision to rebuild the game from scratch while still patching the 1.0 version of the game and a lot of the decisions that went into it.
There's also a documentary from the developer's viewpoint on why they did it as well.
As I said though, "The Fall and Rise of Final Fantasy 14" is a video series, not just a video, so it will take time to go through it all.
The long and short of it is is that Square Enix felt that having Final Fantasy 14 be in such a bad state was such a blow to the company's reputation and to the reputation of one of their pillars in the company, the Final Fantasy series, that they couldn't just abandon it and they couldn't just leave it as is and write it off as a bad game, it had to be fixed and it had to work and they needed new leadership for it.
