This is my progress Video from my first year of painting Warhammer 40k miniatures. Please be kind, I'm rather new and considered not posting because, you know....the internet.
@@stankshop I have been in the hobby for over a decade. I definitely have more painted, about 2x as much, but I easily have 3x as much unpainted, so no good sir. You do not have a pile of shame, you have at most a puddle of shame. You've done fantastic work! I recently decided to stop purchasing any 40k Models until I had painted at least 50% of the unpainted portion, which I've already made a dent in but it will definitely take some time, but I will admit, the loophole is "40k" as I definitely did not sink my teeth into the Skaventide (Skaven half) portion I've been waiting on for about 3-4-5 years? (There were rumors back in 2018 they would be getting new models... People were right, just, half a decade too early lol)
Buddy, I don't think you can call that a pile of shame considering just how much work you've put in in such a short amount of time. Your models are very well painted, too! Thanks for sharing, man!
Thank you! Most my knowledge comes from @VinceVenturella Hobby Cheating series. I watched it all a few times and it really improved my skillset. He's the best.
Thanks! I doubt I'll get anywhere near my last year numbers as since posting this and starting to make more videos it's been tricky to find enough time to paint. I've also spent a fair bit of the last month or two re-painting things to make things youtube worthy. That said, I'm intending a big crunch soon to try and make up for that time :)
Thanks so much! That's awesome that we started around the same time. I spend about 20-60hrs a week painting these days, so a lot of it is just putting in the reps. As I get better, I go back and try and bring things I painted up to my new standard.
Thank you! Ya, I've usually got 3+ hours until my S.O. gets home. After falling on my bike last year, I needed to find something that would fill that void and was less likely to result in injury. Tried a couple other things as well, but this stuck.
I'm hoping to have another good chunk to show for year 2. Currently, I'm a fair bit behind my pace from last year, but hoping a few concentrated weeks/months will put me back on track!
Holy Smokes! 4000 Views! The response to this video has been wonderful, thank you all for the support. I've made some new videos that aren't getting as much love. If the idea of a Musical Army Showcase sounds intriguing please check out the channel :)
Ya, I got really into it. I was recovering from an injury for a few months, and there wasn't much I could do. Ended up forming some habits and just keeping with it when I healed up!
Hello Sir =) In one year painted so much, wow that's amazing. How you do this? And for this short time your models look really good. Now my motivation grown up, thanks for sharing dude, keep your good work.
Thank you! I try to make progress in some way every day. My focus has been on improving. Everything I've learned is from UA-cam, so the bar was set pretty high. Most of these armies were painted while trying to learn something. The Aeldari were all about learning to use my airbrush. My Space Marines were strictly a project to learn to edge highlight (poorly). The Orks were all about learning just how painful I can make things for myself... I mean, Cell shading.
@@stankshop Trying different techniques is not a bad idea, seems like a good plan. Painting so much as possible seems always good to imrpove painting skills
Hello, I just want to know where I should start and which pakages are worth buying. I was thinking space marines, necrons, tyranids. Same goes for paints I got no idea what I'll need since I would like to spend hrs painting.
Hi! Thanks for commenting! Since you're mentioning both Tyranids and Space Marines, I'd have to suggest the Warhammer 40,000 Starter set. It comes with a good number of models for both Space Marines and Tyranids. I've felt this was one of the better values they have for 40k models overall. They are push fit models, so you can get away without getting plastic glue, though most people recommend using a small amount of glue still. When it comes to paints, and everything else. It will depend a bit on what may be available to you. The only paint I have a fair amount of experience with is Monument Hobbies "Pro Acryl" If you aren't sure of your colour schemes they have a "Base Set" with 24 paints that is fantastic. If you already know what colour scheme you'd like to paint, then you can just get those colours. If you don't have access to Pro Acryl, most brands are making pretty good paint these days from what I've heard. Outside of that, I suggest looking at Gundam model toolsets on amazon. They have snippers, knives and tools etc and it's much cheaper. The brushes I use are from "Golden Maple" on amazon. If you have any other questions, or need clarifications, just let me know :)
@@stankshop thank you so much for an awesome response. I was looking into getting the ultimate starter kit and just hesitate due to paints. I already have a cart on Amazon of essentials needed. I'm just stuck on paints. As far as knowing who fights who in 40k lore who fights necrons lol.I live in CA in LA county.
Pro Acryl should definitely be available in the area. You'll want a way to prime them as well. It makes a difference. I'd recommend starting with Spray primer for your first box or two. If you're struggling to pick a paint scheme, don't worry. That's one of the hardest elements for many people. I'd suggest maybe finding a scheme you like, or trying the box art scheme for your first time. The Ultimate Starter looks like another good value. Let me know if you end up with more questions. Happy to be helpful.
@stankshop thank you so much, not sure if there's a discord server with folks that speak abt this. Or if you have one, but I would like more information from you if possible. Yet I feel you'll get tired some of replying.
I'm happy to help and will gladly reply. Don't worry about that. I do my best to reply to any questions and as you might guess. I'm at home...painting...a lot :) It can all be a little overwhelming for sure. I've been working on a paint scheme video for all of my schemes, hoping to have it out this week. I'm on here more than discord, so I'm much quicker to respond on UA-cam
Thank you! I've had a couple requests for this now. I have tried a bit and it's VERY difficult to do this well. I intend to continue attempts, but would highly suggest checking out Vince Venturella's Hobby Cheating series. It's been my Textbook through the learning process. He's got over 400 videos, and they really are top notch, straight to the facts and virtually no solicitation.
Thanks for asking! At this time, I'm still hoarding these until I finish the army. That said, I'm a big fan of @DaRedWunzGoFasta channel and he has just started a bits service. I'd recommend giving that a look. I'll let you know if this changes for me as well!
