After 3 days of attempting to paint every ork I own for Orktober, I now have a much deeper respect for anyone that does these "paint an entire army in x hours/days" videos. Keep up the good work, happy hobbying!
Hey just up temp as a person who's been using ink pens before I have always found it successful to gloss varnish the miniature, apply the metallics let the metallics dry for a full day or more and then apply solvent-based paints. Many of the pens are using alcohol-based acrylics which drive very hard, as long as you let them cure 😊. There is no chemical reaction between The solvents in streaking grime and fully cured acrylic paint. It also is already a high gloss finish, meaning that you will still have it seek the recesses like if you've glossed the area. Try it out on a test model first obviously, but it's the same steps in a different order so it shouldn't take you more time
I had a painting date with a friend of mine on Saturday. I was ambitious and brought a full Battle Sister Squad, an Ork Megaboss, 5 cast Grey Knights, and a little Solrock mini. He was painting some Seraphon Warriors. In the eight hours he finished painting his 5 Serapon Warriors and I didn't finish a single minature. I did the capes, cloth, and guns on all my Battle Sisters and thats it. It doesn't help that I decided to go with the Order of the Sacred Rose meaning much like yourself I have to suffer with a miniature that is 80% white. I regret nothing and everything all at the same time.
Dude, watched you for ages, this was so entertaining for me. Purely because im a White Scar, and painting them nicely really is quite the endeavour. So i commend you sir!! Loved this video
those dried tips from the markers, just dip em in some IPA... stir it and thek on a piece of cardboard begin pressing down on it shake pen press the tip.. shake..etc.. you will see it will saturate that dried tip again.. D.
Looking nice! I’m working on my white scars atm. I think you are onto something with the airbrush for contrast and some shades here. It is too hard to mask brush strokes and patches without it.
@@LizardofDoom Heh I do understand that. Regarding the chrome, you could always touch it up to get the shine back. As I tend to throw a Sepia wash over my models to provide a unifying tint, I do that sort of touch up on parts of the metals to bring back the sheen.
@@LizardofDoom so turns out that although they are codex compliant, the white scars' "Brotherhoods" are indicated by unique badges rather than shoulder trim. They are an exception to the rule. in terms of their shoulder trim, most wear white, while command and veterans wear red.

I've stopped doing the puches and co in leather color, myself. With actual army pouches and such on body armor, they're the same color as the body armor - so they're just getting the same color as my armor, now. I stick to picking out things like holstered bolt pistols. After ruining my yellow armor with a slight hand tremble one too many times, that's been my solution...
Only watched the end atm because I'm at work but looks amazing man, got a question for you, wondering what your opinion is about GW pushing the raptors chapter so much, I think its to appeal to military painters but my friend thinks its because they are going to turn out to be from a different gene seed to what its presumed to be raven guard
It's a confusing one. GW often plan years ahead so there got to be SOME reason. Personally I'd like to see more support for other main chapters especially on the transfer sheets.
Thank you mate! I didn’t varnish afterwards as I find it just soaks it up and you can’t see the pigment anymore. When you put it on you can brush most of it back off and even blow it off with a hairdryer if you want to be sure. The stuff that’s left will of stained it enough for the effect to work. Works better on mat surfaces. 🙂
You could make a part of a video explaining your way to do a zenithal. A basic ”true” zenithal sucks, so more experienced people just sort of cheat it - like I see you do. It would be interesting for me to hear how you think about this and probably very beneficial for many others as well.
i've probably only painted like 20 models in total over 12 years lol. Got the starter set at the start of september and i'm only on my 9th tyranid xD but i'm determined to finish the tyranid part.
Did anyone else look at the invader atv’s base and start getting mad because there was a hole where it should have been stuck down😅 Or is that just me??
@@Manchesterunitedfan123-ur7yt alright smart arse 😂 the ATV doesn’t come with a base, that’s a base from something else that used those peg holes. ATV doesn’t use peg holes, I stuck it to the base in a way that covered two other peg holes and stuck a tuft over the last one when I was done. The more you knooooowwwwwww
Are you using a .28 or .44mm nozzle? Looking at the needle back, I think I only see two ridges, which makes me think you're using the .28mm. I've found white acrylic (or other acrylics with a lot of white pigment in them) through the smaller nozzles is troublesome. I'll put up with it for a single figure, but when batch painting I swap out to the .44mm and enjoy myself quite a bit more. I actually keep the .44 in most of the time now, and only swap to the .28 for more detailed stuff. I also have a 0.15mm nozzle but that's honestly very difficult to use with acrylics. If I need to be that detailed I just get out a regular brush.
You are very astute! I actually had this smaller nozzle/needle because the larger one was already clogged even worse when I went to set up the airbrush and it was soaking in iso. 😂
Depends what you want to use it for. My bases were painted in the style I want them to be and I used the powder to give them an authentic dusty look that also affected the lower areas of the mini. That tied the model to them as if they were really in that environment. For this you don’t need binder. Just be sure to sweep or blow as much as you can off again otherwise game day will be messy. With most pigment powder, Vallejo especially, the small amount left behind after removal will of stained the mini perfectly. Hope this helps. 🙂
I gotta say you are one of the first painters I have heard refer to the red flush under the skin in Caucasians. I like the way you do it and may well adopt it myself though my colour range is a totally different brand.
I feel like you might benefit from taking the opposite approach. Don't pressure yourself, don't give yourself a deadline, just work on it a little at a time, over a long period, whenever you feel like painting.
This is what i usually do but it ends up with me having a half painted army on game day. The purpose of this project is to have something I can put on the table and play with as soon as possible with out worrying too much about the fine detail. 😊
Just a friendly advice for airbrush cleaning, once you have remove the nozzle, dont pull the needle through the back of the airbrush, but push it out through the front. otherwize all the nasty stuff on the needle point might endup stuck inside the body of the airbrush. Great job on the army !! :D
Yes, another leather strap hater! I also hate them. Both from painting Marines as well as Orks. So. Many. Random. Straps! I've also found a tip with pigment powder: mix it with a bit of water first. It still gives that dusty look when it dries but is less messy when applying it.
I wanted to leave a bunch of the leg pouches off but then the leather straps look like garters 😂 stop it GW! That’s a good tip with the powder, I’ll try it out 🙂
