    I buried my best friend 6 years ago last month. He was 59. He had no family left the last 10 years of his life, so went full tilt on the booze. I was his medical power of attorney as well, so I was a spectator to the progression of signs into symptoms, into full blown end stage cirrhosis. Eventually seizures, coma, etc etc, until one morning at 1am I got the call. He was 400k in medical debt at the time of his death. Unbelievably, he was an organ donor, which i thought was futile, but they harvested, bone, skin, corneas, and all sorts of other things. A young girl received his corneas the next day and regained her vision. I was notified by the donor site that 22 people were served by his donation.

    I'm 14 months off the sauce. About a month ago, I finally talked to the Dr about the pain in my R upper quadrant I've been having for years. I had an ultrasound/mri 5 ish years ago and it showed an unhappy, nasty fatty/enlarged liver. I didn't stop drinking, and honestly the last 4 years were the heaviest in my drinking career. Daily drinker/vodka/rum every night and countless amounts on the weekends. I was really worried about the damage I did over those 4 years. I was seriously expecting progression of the fatty liver to fibrosis/cirrhosis which is why I didn't go to the Dr. (I know, stupid, but that's what alcohol does). The recent imaging/comparisons showed zero signs of fatty liver/liver disease. Over the last 14 months AF, exercise and eating well, I reversed the damage I did to my liver from the 15ish years of drinking. Lay off the sauce peeps, it is hard but it is worth it. Don't stop trying. I had more day 1's than I can count. Never stop trying.

      Can they see if you've scarred your liver. There's a channel on YT and the guy drank heavily in his younger years then quit for like 30 years but still got cirrhosis as a result of his younger drinking days.

    • @kkl4815
      @kkl4815 3 місяці тому +4

      @@andys2856 Yes, I had ultrasound and MRI imaging/comparison to my prior results. No scarring, fibrosis is reversed, liver is normal size. I will say, even though I didn't quit drinking until Dec 2022, I did do a major change in my diet and fitness starting in October 2019. I guess I did it backwards as far as fitness and nutrition and then quitting drinking later.

      I hope you find the will power to stop drinking. I know the struggle and unfortunately I know it to well. I'm 50 and only sober 8 months. I was a functioning alcoholic for 30 years and have so much regret of raising my son's around it. They never went without anything and I cooked and cleaned every day for them but 80 percent of the time I was drinking. I didn't drink hard alcohol only beer but still pretty drunk most of the time. I cry so much now because I have so much guilt and shame of my drinking. They grow up so fast and life is too short not to make a change now. I pray that you find the will to stop and hope you get counseling for it.

ALCOHOL and the widespread general consumption of this trash is what ages people in the traditional sense. If you never drink alcohol and stay fit. You will most likely be quite healthy.

    I had 2 young coworkers die from liver disease. One was only 39 with 2 young kids. I tell young people that at age 30 you have to stop the drinking, smoking, over eating, and drugs. When you are young your body heals, after 30 the damage accumulates.

    All of this is so relatable. All of the throwing up, nausea, red eyes, starving myself, choosing drinking over eating, shaking, low blood sugar, being hot all the time, sweating, shortness of breath, terrible brain fog, etc. Trying to choke down liqour to feel better💀 Man, I never thought about how sick I really was. I finally decided to get sober in May of 2021. Had a few relapses since, but have achieved some good chunks of sobriety time. I am currently almost 60 days sober since my last relapse. There isn't enough said about non-alcoholic liver disease. I nearly died with it because it took doctors a long time to diagnose it because I don't drink. But after a long time hospitalised, 30 blood transfusions, 2 paracenteses, CT scans, blood test every day (major protein deficiency), losing 40kg in weight, etc - I finally had a TIPS procedure & I no longer have problems. Never presume it's alcohol induced.

He was stage 4 by the time he was diagnosed. Looking back there were so many signs we just ignored them. It’s amazing how your body can hold itself together. I was only 23 and fell into deep alcoholism over the course of 9 months. I was overseas and drinking 6-8 500ml cans of 9% alcohol a day, it totals out to about a liter of 80 proof alcohol. I was drinking before work, taking some into work with me to ward off the shakes and panic attacks, and then drinking after work til 2 am.
    It got to the point towards the end of the 9 months where if I went 3-4 hours without a drink I’d start getting panic attacks, extreme sweating, dangerously high blood pressure, low blood sugar etc.
    I talked with my doctor and got a small supply of meds so I could cold turkey the alcohol without risking seizures etc. and luckily I was able to escape. Even only a couple weeks sober I was feeling 1000% better.
    I just wanted to share for anyone in similar shoes. We often hear about people who drink for years and years before experiencing catastrophic health issues, but depending on your drinking and/or pre-existing conditions, health issues can sneak up extremely quickly.

    Ì am an organ donor. I try to get any of my family to do it. Once you tip over you need none of your belongings. Including the body. There are so many lives that can benefit from it. Some say they dont want their body cut up. But you are improving someone elses life or even saving theirs. If you dont donate your organs. They are just going to decompose while another person is sufferring or dying. My biggest gift to society after i die. Is that someone i do not know. Or been paid by. Will get the gift of life or a better life. Unconditional giving. ❤

    I feel you on putting it off. I was diagnosed with Hep C from needle usage in probably 2005. I have a lot of symptoms (I believe) that I act like aren’t there, or act like they’re isolated incidents. Being constantly fatigued for the last several years is the biggest one. Swelling of my feet for no reason but that hasn’t happened in awhile, but no redness or pain, just swollen right foot. Also having zero appetite for a long time now. I force myself to eat. I’ve been clean for almost 10 years, but I can’t gain weight and I’m small. I got up to 130 a couple years ago, kept the routine, and am back down to 116 pounds. I’m 5’ 8” so yeah I’m scrawny 😂. I think part of me is afraid of how much damage they’re going to tell me I’ve let happen by putting it off. But my blood work always seems to come back “ok” with high liver enzymes and still positive (some people fight it off on their own apparently).

    Great video and super good advice. I was a Paramedic in Detroit for 14 years, so I have a medical background of sorts.
    I much like you even with my medical background dismissed signs and symptoms, although not as extreme as yours. My point being even with some medical knowledge we all want to dismiss what our bodies are telling us on something else. As you said, “throwing up coffee grounds” but thought it was the soda.
    I commend you on your truthfulness and sharing your story. I’m glad you are still here because many that get to that point don’t survive.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. Heavy drinkers who don't hear this, need to hear it. We all fool ourselves into saying, oh, that happens to some people, but not me. Or, I'll get a handle on this before its too late. All the while it is damaging us, and no one can really tell when they have gone too far. I was a heavy week end drinker, and it fucked up a lot of things in my life. I am now 4 years sober, and know I can't go back to that. Alcohol is an insidious drug. At first it makes you feel warm, happy, energetic, and fun. It will overtake you, and now you will feel the exact opposite....scared, dark, hopeless and broken. Don't go out that way, stop right now, and don't go back.

    Milk thistle, turmeric, and magnesium. You can heal your body.
    The majority of your problems didn't come from alcohol. It came from diet. Seed oils, sugar, lack of fruits/vegetables, lack of saturated fat (eggs, red meat), and lack of vitamin D.

    • @TexasTwig
      @TexasTwig 3 місяці тому +5

      @@johnmartinsen963 Forgot to edit my original comment haha Lack of saturated fat and lack of D were the main causes. Red meat is the most anti inflammatory food you can consume. In fact, many studies show that consumption of more saturated fat protects the liver from damage.

The pressure behind the eyes too. One of my biggest problems besides feeling exhausted and depressed was the constant feeling hot and sweating. I would even sweat in my sleep often my bed was soaked.

    Hello! I am so happy for you, your family and loved ones that you are strong and was able to quit drinking. This is the first video of yours I have watched. I have a question about the type and volume of alcohol you consumed. What did you drink and how often?

    Thank you for your honesty and sincerity. No cuts in the video just you telling your story. A CT scan showed I have a fatty liver also high sugar and blood pressure. I can relate to many of your symptoms. Alcohol, carbs and sugar are off the list as I try to reverse this. Two months in and feeling better. Energy back and headaches gone.

    Thank you for your video. I've had brain fog, the visual blotches, skin tags and plenty more issues for about 5 years, chronically. I've waved them all off as signs of getting older. Only after watching your video, I decided to quit alcohol. It's so much more pernicious than I ever realized. Thank you for reaching me before I stepped off the proverbial cliff.

    I've been experiencing all of this. Ive been told a few times that my liver enzymes were too high....i get the dizziness, head fog, everything that u mentioned.... sadly sometimes the only way i feel my body getting back normal is alcohol.... when i stop a few days or just have 2 drinks, i feel brand new....its only when i binge....i sneak and drink when i first wake up....its hijacked my life basically.... whenever i do feel great, i tell myself im not gonna go jard anymore because of the aftermath but i do it anyway and spend a week trying recover just to do it again....i hate that i feel powerless to control my drinking.

    Hi LD. A happy Valentine’s Day to you 💚. That’s was a very detailed brave story. I know you are helping many in the same boat ! I have seen so many patients with cirrhosis where I work. It’s sad and it getting worse . We have males and females aged 30-75 ish . Really heavy drinkers. They usually come in bc of Hepatic encephalopathy ( due to elevated ammonia levels) confusion, jaundice and ascites. Repeat Repeat. It is very difficult for the family caretaker . So we give them the yucky meds for ammonia levels and do a parenthesis . They get stable. Most come back repeatedly due to cont drinking or the damage to liver is late stage . It is devastating. I’m glad you are around and sober. For you. For your family . I pray you live a long good life. I think you will bc you are doing good self care . Blessings and hugs to you friend 💚💚💚💚💚🌟🌟🌟👌🏻👌🏻

    I appreciate your videos. A good friend has been a heavy beer drinker for a long time. Moreover, was a drug (just name one) user. He was told long time ago he had a fatty liver. What I notice the most is his belly. He has gained weight. But to me he looks bloated as well. Finally, he is going to a doctor he likes. He is on Librium to help and is doing better. I am afraid tho that he may have cirrhosis.

    My husband passed away just over a year ago. We had been separated for 3 years at that point, but I had no idea that his drinking was what was killing him. He wasted away. He told ppl that it was cancer but it was extreme alcohol consumption. He starved to death ultimately, and died alone, leaving our son without a dad. That’s no way to live, and no way to go out. Repent & believe the gospel, because we are not promised our next breath.

All of my other numbers are within normal range and the doc said if I stop now I should be able to live a normal life. (only 38yrs old) Follow up in 6 months.
