Someone I loved very much insisted on following her “health gurus” to treat cancer. It was caught early, but by the time she reached out to the Oncologists, she was too far gone. People think the effects of chemo are too terrible until you see the horror of someone devastated by untreated cancer. Keep up the good work, Dr. Mike!
This literally happened to me with a family member and cancer. Could’ve been a surgery and one round of chemo. She chose “herbal medication” and went from stage 2 to 4. She passed 3 years ago.
That’s awful and I bet this happens more often than we even know. People like gwyneth are dangerous and it’s scary how she can do this without any oversight.
I'm a hospice nurse and have lost track of the number of people who end up being referred straight to us from the oncologist because they went with "natural" crap remedies for cancers that were caught early and could have been cured. It's so sad
@@melaninmonroe007 My sister in law did the same thing. The cancer made her waste away to skin and bones before passing away. The family was so sad as she wasn't even 50.
Me hearing Dr Mike say "My warning is that this is complete horseshit" is absolutely phenomenal and I love to see medical misinformation taken down so quickly. Love your content man
Thank you for speaking up about women’s pain not being taken as seriously. When I was 11 I went through puberty. Then at 12 I started having kidney stones, but I wasn’t diagnosed for months because doctors assumed it was my period. Now I’m almost 40, and I’ve passed many stones. I now have a wonderful doctor who helps me with my chronic kidney stone condition. Turns out I’m genetically predisposed. * I should probably add that by the time I was diagnosed, they could see scarring that meant I’d already passed 3 stones and was on my 4th. This was within the span of several months while I was 12 years old. I’d estimate by now I’m easily in the double digits for how many stones I’ve passed. On the positive side, I have great pain tolerance. 😂 I’ve broken a toe and didn’t scream.
Oof, I've had one, and I don't want any more. Granted, my periods are more painful, and my migraines are more painful than even those, but I don't need more added pain on top of those. And if your kidney stones are more painful than mine was, glad your doc is helping! In my 20s, I had a doc tell me that I was wrong about my migraine symptoms, and that I was actually experiencing other symptoms (that I wasn't experiencing at all), so I stopped going to him. He'd been seeing me for migraines since I was 9! He knew my symptoms!
Kidney stones are no joke. My daughter suffered from abdominal pain from the time she was about 8. The doctor diagnosed her with "stress related anxiety", which under the circumstances, was a fair diagnoses to make. However, years later when she was 14, she started missing periods. The doctor wouldn't listen to me as I asked for endometriosis and PCOS testing. Finally, a year later, they sent her off for extensive testing. The radiologist was astounded at how many eggs were stuck to her ovary walls - she had PCOS. All those years we could have been more prepared. Now, she's on the pill and has no pain at all. Remember guys - birth control is used for more than birth control!
I'm so sorry to hear that. Kidney stones are so incredibly painful and it's awful that you weren't taken seriously. Thanks for telling your story. Awareness is one of the steps on the path to improvement
Oof. I've had a couple and look, I have other chronic pains, migraines and aches, so youd think I would be used to pain, but kidney stones were on another level. And I've only had fairly small ones.
Yes! My favourite is when they give you the "conventional medicine is all about profit" line and then proceed to try to sell you their natural/alternative stuff for ridiculous sums of money 🤣
“hospitals charge alot of money and treat your illness...its so unfair!!!!!! why dont you buy our products that do nothing at best so that we are the ones that profit instead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
A true natural doctor will tell you that you can buy your own herbs for dirt cheap and easily make your own remedies that work WITH your body to heal, and doesn’t destroy your organs and microbiome and immunity like pharmaceuticals. God put every single thing naturally on this earth already for our healing! No toxic chemicals necessary.
Why do you have to pay for healthcare. And why is it so expensive. Like obviously Americans are going to try the cheaper option first or just not wreck their lives by going to the hospital because they broke their arm and now they got to live in debt for the rest of their life
As a medical student, this is so sad and hurtful to see. You study, you give your best years to science and someone with a little bit of influence on media comes and throw everything on the sink. Sad, sad reality
Good for you for making this video about Paltrow’s harmful lunatic claims. Sadly, this kind of thing is rampant, as I discovered when I got breast cancer. You’d be astounded at how many people ranted to me about their medical industrial complex conspiracy theories and warnings not to do the chemo that saved my life. I heard all about how I caused my own cancer by a) wearing a bra, b) having a glass of wine with dinner, c) not being on a Keto diet, d) manifesting it with my fears, and on and on. It’s a true wonder I didn’t throat punch every idiot who said those things to me.
Me too. I am a very logical person and when people started telling about magna waving and supplements instead of treatment I fell off the ledge. Some were even close friends! I told them either stop with the BS or lose my number.
Tell me about it. I also got told similar things - that I didn't need treatment, I just needed to *think* that I will be ok and it will vanish. My favorite was when my aunt told me that "there is no point in doing chemo and getting all those chemicals in your body. You will die and go to Jesus, and that is ok". Mind you, I was 15. It was the only time my dad actually kicked someone out of the house. People are insane.
I'm so happy to hear that you prioritized your own health over what some of those around you were saying, and found a treatment that actually worked for you. I'm glad your health didn't suffer as a result of "peer pressure", and that you're doing better now. Wishing you the best!
It’s actually extremely infuriating to see her taking advantage of our broken system. Using people’s vulnerabilities or fears against them is a huge sign of abuse.
As a woman, I’ve been disregarded multiple times by our medical system. I had chronic stomach pain for 13 years and had multiple doctors tell me it was my period or that I was too stressed. I was finally diagnosed with Ciliacs Disease at age 22.
I was diagnosed at 20, but I don't blame doctors too much because for a while I didn't seek help as my symptoms didn't bother me too much. But I do think my pediatrician should have noticed stunted growth as a kid.
Was it at least in your lower left or right quadrant? Sometimes the middle? Or were they telling you upper abdomen pain was your period? Malpractice is real and patients have rights.
As someone with severe anxiety and depression that ended in a whole year of my life lost, I hate the fact that they target something so vulnerable as mental illness
I have had severe social anxiety and depression for over 14 years, at least 8 or 9 of them lost completely to mainly depression. You really put the nail on the head. Especially in a lot of communities where people tend to act like "pulling yourself up by the bootstraps" is normal and healthy (which it obviously isn't, in any way, shape, or form!). And so they prey on people who would need actual help but have been taught to not seek it. It's disgusting.
@Beclos Bird My cousin essentially gave me that 'talk' today.. just get going, move on. I'm 50 & have had largely untreated chronic (serious) health problems for around 20 yrs now. By the time I was 25, I'd lost almost everyone I'd ever been close to or loved except my best friend (who I lost at 31) & my mom (who passed in 2019). I took care of a dear friend after my mom passed & lost her in 2020. Met my soulmate in Oct that yr. Lost another person in 2021. Then last yr lost my car, my home of 22 yrs and all my animals.. in 1 effing yr. Since Aug '22, I've been in a cramped bedroom at my Aunt's (never been close to), existing out of a few boxes & bags (I lost 90% of everything I'd ever owned & everything my mom owned). When my soulmate lost his mom last yr he withdrew & the relationship is all but lost (I'm in the US & he's in England & we never even got a chance to touch one another). My cousin remarked, "we gave you 2, then 3, months to get over things & pull yourself together & you haven't.. you won't." If you haven't gone without.. If you haven't lost everything.. If you haven't been totally wiped out financially.. If you haven't been broken in every way, then you cannot 'know' how to give advice & certainly shouldn't judge whether someone just doesn't have enough 'will' to 'make things happen'. And, she did this on the 25th anniversary of my dad's death no less.
@@crystalrainfeather I just want to say that I'm so sorry for the abundance of loss you've experienced over the recent years. No one should have to endure what you have, and it's okay and normal to feel sad, especially after such tough life events. I hope that you are able to seek therapy -- someone who is good at talk and cognitive behavioral therapy might really benefit you. I know I'm just a stranger on the in internet, but I truly wish nothing but good things for you from here on out. ❤
Thats how it has been for thousands of years .. check any religion. Any system dont like smart people because you cannot control smart people, only the stupid ones, weak ones, damaged ones. One of the reason why there are so many fake marriages etc. Especially women going into marriage only to obtain some wealth .. same principle. When you love someone you are vulnerable, its leap of faith, but so many people take advantage of it. How many people are punished for it? Almost none .. the reward for taking advantage of someone is way bigger than the risk.
@Dynight Thank you very much. Atm, therapy isn't an option because of lack of money & an issue with the Aunt I'm staying with refusing to allow me to give any of her financial info to a free clinic so I can seek medical & mental resources. (She doesn't have much, so I don't think it would affect her at all, but.. not my place to insist anything. I'm still clinging to hope for good things & a way to change my circumstances. Your kindness & time to reply means a lot.
Yea, government insurance sucks when it comes to wait times. My father often gets told the wait will be 9-12 months for pretty routine procedures before they learn medicare isn't his primary insurance.
I'm chronically ill and disabled, and an active patient advocate in my community, and seeing people like this who take advantage of others and manipulate people is absolutely disgusting. There are so many people who just want to feel better and they're willing to do the craziest things because of it. These disgusting people target vulnerable people and it's horrible. The spread of misinformation must be stopped. Thank you, Dr. Mike, for addressing this and showing that this is very serious.
I agree with your message here, but I feel that you are leveraging your not-so-great position as a way to pass judgement without anyone questioning you. I mean, it would have you labeled as a cripple hater, disgusting person, etc. This isn’t cool, and while we are on the same wavelength, bringing your own problems into play to guilt trip people into not disagreeing is the highest form of pettiness.
@@tylerterwilligar4153 I'm genuinely confused by your comment. They're not guilt tripping anyone, they're simply establishing that they are the type of vulnerable person desperate to get better that selfish and greedy frauds specifically target, that they know firsthand how fustrating it is to be lied to about something with so much impact on a person's life. How and what could anyone possibly disagree with them on ? On wether or not it is discusting to use people's vulnerability to scam them ? On wether or not the organisation in question is a fraud ? Also, what "would have them labelled as cripple hater, discusting person" ?
A former boss of mine was interviewed by Goop staff and she was so proud to be involved with them. I asked her if she didn't know about all the fake stuff Paltrow was promoting and her complete disregard for the negative influence she had. Her response was, "but they're so friendly over there." I think she was swept away with the idea of promoting her business and being connected with a celebrity, regardless of her credibility. It's just mind-boggling. And unfortunately, the people who probably need to hear this message the most, won't.
This is the same mentality that leads people to their doom. Those people are so friendly. Pretty sure her neighbour is just as friendly and a lot saner.
"swept away with the idea of promoting her business and being connected with a celebrity" that's... how cults work. Leader's charisma and vague ideas, unnaturally friendly demeanor (love bombing) that WILL change to hostility if you don't toe the line.
That thing about not taking a woman's pain seriously.. When my little sister was 16 she started complaining about a horrible headache, badly enough that our mother decided to take her to the ER. The Doctor's response? She's fine, just looking for attention. He was lucky our mom was between me and him, I very nearly attacked him. He dismissed us, and within an hour she'd lost control of the entire right side of her body. We had to drive to an ER in another town, over an hour away, to get her seen. Turns out she had encephalitis and would have died if we hadn't brought her in that same night. I've always wished my mom had sued, who knows how many other people he's treated like that..
When I was 11 my i had acute appendicitis. My mom took me to the regular doctors and then the next day to the hospital. Did a CT scan and everything. Both places told me it was period pain - because of my age they thought I couldn’t handle it I guess. My appendix ruptured - my mom followed her gut and days after this all started took me to a 3rd hospital where the physician finally diagnosed it after it was ruptured. I was in the hospital for like 2 weeks. So fucked up.
Im a girl and for years my heart would race with extra activity or caffeine to the point where it was close to the two hundreds for hours. The first time i had to go to the er for it i was diagnosed with dehydration. It happened a couple more times and the next time i had to go to the hospital my heart had been at 250 bpm for four hours because i thought i was dehydrated. Turns out i almost had a stroke because of that day and i had SVT
I'm a Speech and language therapist specialising in Autism. Parent of a client asked me recently about the stickers for reducing anxiety, as she had seen them on the internet. I had never heard of these until then. My advice to her: 'please be wary of products online that make claims like these, as there is usually no research to show that they are effective, let alone safe, and please SPEAK TO YOUR CHILD'S DOCTOR FIRST!'
I think I know the ones you mean and I posted a comment asking for whether there was research showing they were effective in managing ADHD (as was implied by the ad). There was no answer 🤔
When my autistic kids were little, many parents told me to give them charcoal tablets in order to get rid of "the toxins and metals" in their systems. Nope.
@@pollyrg97 As someone with both (ADHD and anxiety) I can assure you those things will only help in the placebo effect way. That said, stickers are sometimes helpful in planners. Especially those motivational ones. I like to put some sticky notes on my walls from time to time with motivational quotes or reminders. They help me. But as therapists often say: not all ADHD are the same. We are all different
We have a son that can get anxious in certain group settings. We've used sticker books and pieces of paper and let him play with them off to the side until he feels ready to join the group. I wouldn't think to call it a therapy just because he likes to sometimes put the stickers on his arm or on some of our clothes.
All that does is make you orange. A friend in elementary school had a mom that did that to lose weight. I have never ever seen that color her skin turned in real life before.

Oh my god. Doctor Mike. I have never, ever had a doctor on UA-cam bring me to tears. I am a woman in her 30's with a painful genetic disease (EDS) and wasn't diagnosed until I fought TOOTH AND NAIL to be believed that something was wrong. And even when I was about to go septic in the ER LAST MONTH from a kidney infection, people still weren't taking my pain seriously. Having a doctor acknowledge that our experience is crappy is really nice. Thank you.
@saeveth I am so sorry for all that you've gone through. Whenever possible, bring someone to advocate for you. Make sure you add them to the HIPAA section as you're filling out information. Include their name, relation to you, their phone number and to what you are granting them access. I write (or upload depending on the forms): "I grant [person's name] permission to access all of my records including all of my test results, doctor's notes, nurse's notes, tech notes, films. Furthermore, [person's name] may speak to [specific doctor, imaging center or hospital] on my behalf to ask questions and receive full answers with no details withheld. This permission is to remain in effect unless and until I retract permission in writing." I then print, sign and date the form. Try to keep records in an easy-to-access format. For years, I kept all of my records in hard copy form only. I still present a hard copy of my present meds, doses, prescribing doctors, diagnoses, when diagnoses were made, symptoms, drug allergies, discontinued meds with reasons for discontinuing those meds under doctor's care. I include the name, address and phone number of my GP and my specialists. I include my pharmacy name, address and phone number. I include a photocopy of the front and back of my insurance card. The vaccinations that I've had in the last several years including the dates are included. Finally, at the top (under my name, address, insurance company + ID number), I note the reason for my visit (symptoms), the name, number and the relationship of 2 emergency contacts. My doctors have each told me that by reviewing this information and being able to scan it into my file, they've been able to get to testing and diagnosis faster. From time to time, I update this document so, if there's an emergency, I or someone else can quickly print copies for doctors, EMTs and my advocate. I have similar documents for both of my parents. This helped a lot during the height of COVID when no one was allowed to accompany my dad to the ER. The ER doctor who called was able to confirm the info in the document that was sent along with my dad to the ER and testing and treatment started right away. My goals with these documents are to reduce wasted time, reduce the chance of medical errors, and make it clear in a non-aggresive way that I know how to advocate for my family (and they know how to advocate for me). I've been misdiagnosed and I am disabled due to a surgeon who subsequently killed another patient weeks after leaving me disabled. I've learned how to be assertive. In addition to this hard copy document and copies kept in easily accessible electronic forms, I use my cell phone calendar and sometimes the memo to track certain info because you can search the memo and calendar by keywords. Being able to rapidly answer a doctor's questions by searching my calendar helps a lot. This isn't a fail safe, things can still go wrong. But, all of these things were learned via trial and error (It always helps to have an informed, calm yet assertive advocate with you when you are ill. I hope things go well for you from here on out and I wish you the best.
My best friend has EDS. I have MECFS, POTS, Interstitial Cystitis, Long Covid, and more. I have literally been wheeled to the ER with a septic kidney infection that wasn't taken seriously when I first got a UTI that until they tested me and then immediately gave me IV antibiotics, were dismissing as period pain until the last moment.
Other people have, but his starting with why what she's doing is not only an issue but predatory was the best move. Tons of people defend it with "if people choose to buy it, then it's their problem" when she's just a predator attacking the prey with a limp leg. Companies like this rely on the insecurities of smaller groups and the lack of empathy from the larger, less affected ones. Most just make fun of it in a way that also makes fun of the people who fall for the scams. The scams that are backed by "I'm super relatable and wholesome" celebrities, have millions of dollars invested into them, and whole teams running them with the goal of fleecing vulnerable people.
Came here to say the worst part about Goop is that it markets more towards women and then you started to talk about that. Thank you for this upload. I'm also currently reading The Gospel of Wellness which I recommend to anyone wanting to pull back the curtain on many things marketed in the wellness industry
Thank you Dr. Mike for exposing the real reasons as to why women are targeted for marketable products. As a woman, I strongly appreciate you using your platform to bring it to light as a fellow doctor yourself❤
Sadly it's nothing more than being ignorant like he is saying. You choose not to believe the negatives and stay ignorant your whole life. Meanwhile there's me that says things like the seeds on the outside of a strawberry are actually the fruit. And we just call them seeds because we're ignorant
The fact that it seems like Doctor Mike rarely goes out of his way to “attack” things like this, it really means a lot when he does, and emphasizes the importance. I say “attack” in quote, because really he’s trying to defend against misinformation. And I love that he acknowledges the reason behind why someone might try using these garbage products.
The statement about women being improperly diagnosed made me feel so much better. I had a doctor who constantly insisted I was pregnant and would have me test every single time I came in and would shrug off my symptoms. When that happened it made me just research on my own and end up more scared than I started lol
I ended up with gestational hypertension at the end of my pregnancy. But my doctor ignored my symptoms for 2 months. It took an ULTRASOUND TECH to say, hey, I think you should go to the ER. Within the next 24hrs after that I was diagnosed, induced, and had my baby with a different doctor. All the while my other doctor was rolling her eyes. She came in later and was like "Wow, you proved me wrong at every turn!" And I just said in my head, wouldn’t have if you just. Freaking. Listened. Even when pregnant, they refuse to understand
Yeah. I think it goes both ways. There’s manipulative people pushing dangerous product’s pretending they’re good for you, just to make a buck, from both the non FDA approved folks, like Gwen, and from the pharmaceutical companies.
Ugh, thank you. I lost an aunt to breast cancer this way. She wanted to beat it “the natural way”. She died from breast cancer that could’ve been managed with a lumpectomy had she gotten proper treatment from an Oncologist instead of a Dr. Sebi proclaimed herb specialist 😞
Even my mom’s friend who is a homeopathic practitioner said to mh mom “there’s a time for homeopathy and this isn’t it”. She said it’s good as a support but not to replace medicine. And insisted my mom get chemo.
Same. A friend died from breast cancer because she tried alternative treatments for way too long. Then when it had metastasized, she went for traditional medicine but it was too late.
Thank you for talking about women's pain and women not being taken seriously. I was gaslighted about my pain so much and told things like "you just need to relax more little lady" all the while I had endometriosis and adenomyosis, which went undiagnosed for 17 years. I also turned away from regular medicine just because no one helped me. Until I had to be admitted to the ER and finally people were like "something isn't right here, let's run some tests".
Because this type of shit, as well as "nutritional or health supplements" have very little regulations on them, most of them will never get cracked down on as long as they don't make blatantly unproven health claims.
As someone with an obgyn auntie, it's been drilled into me since early childhood that our parts are self cleaning and nothing should be put in there that doesn't belong there. It baffles me how many people swear by these techniques and products. I wonder if it's a placebo effect, where they think it does something, and they believe it so strongly.
At least she isn't spreading the myth that putting a sweet potato up your wah-hoo will cure yeast infections....yet. True story: a nurse I know was working the e.r. when a woman came in with one inside her for that very reason. And it had started GROWING inside of her!
Hmm interesting, I would like to know your take on tampons then? Or something your auntie could’ve said something about it? Cause personally I can’t imagine anyone ever being comfortable with using that instead of pads
Maybe they get used to how it feels after using the product, like how many people are effectively conditioned to shower daily with hot water when it’s negative for us. They just don’t feel clean without it, which is a real shame. And just imagine the number of people who maybe have an issue an obgyn needs to see but don’t get it checked out because they’re self medicating with vagina deodorant and whatnot
Just started Nursing school and your videos are often shown in my classes. Yes, of course the ladies swoon but you have been contributing to our education as well.
I work in Advertising as graphic designer at one of pretty big local agencies we had project where we where working with beauty shots for ad of wonder product - anti-aging cream for women aged 50+, obviously done with popular actress. I have done many cinical jobs in my career (like advertising unhealthy fast food to the children, promos of harmful instant products and those were huge campaigns) but this is above em all. Cos at those shots this 50+ actress had her face made looking smooth not thanks to this cream (or even any cream) but SCOTCH TAPE. Before the photo shoot, they simply stretched off the skin on her face by putting pieces of adhesive tape on her cheeks and stretching it behind her ears. Primitive but effective. And we had to photoshop it before adding to rest of layouts. It's worth mentioning it wasn't cheap product but a premium popular brand. I won't give you any names- but you get the idea? PS obviously we could perfectly Photoshop her even if they wouldn't taped her but this made our job easier, thank to creative photographer :D
I'm so glad you're talking about how women's pain is often dismissed. I was being treated for POTS by my neurologist and when I brought up the widespread pain throughout my body I've experienced ever since I can remember, he said it was shin splints (no joke). Saw a different neurologist, diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and nerve pain medication brings me almost full relief. 🤷🏻♀️ Edit: if you could do a video on fibromyalgia our community would be so grateful ❤️ people still have no idea what it is, let alone believe it to be a legitimate condition
I second this wholeheartedly!! I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 17 and also suffer from me/chronic fatigue syndrome, ptsd, ocd, generalized anxiety disorder, major depression, disordered sleeping, and probably some other stuff I’m forgetting. Invisible illnesses are so damn hard. People have come to better understand lupus, but fibromyalgia is still barely paid attention to. It means the world to me anytime speaks out about it bc ableism is everywhere and every ounce of awareness helps. I’m sick of people saying I’m lazy and lying. I have always considered going to a neurologist but idk. I’ve mainly gone to a rheumatologist for my physical issues. I manage my pain and exhaustion better now, but I wonder if a neurologist could get scans for me and maybe better help me understand my conditions. Ugh it’s rough. I hope you’re having a lower pain day 💜
@Kar tr obviously. She's talking about women's pain because she's not a man, so therefore can't talk about it due to not experiencing it, just like men can't talk about women's pain for the same reason.
@@shannon890 Yessss! I have PCOS, too, so doctors looked at that as the reason all the time, so frustrating! I'm sorry you went through this too ❤️ hopefully things have improved
Thank you for acknowledging how the medical community has failed women. As well as addressing that one of the reasons the jade egg is dangerous is because it could cause toxic shock syndrome. I am allergic to tampons and pads, and would get toxic shock syndrome. This was in Iowa in the 90s and I straight up had 2 male Dr's tell me that my swollen vagina looked "fine" and when I asked if I could have TSS (I had read about it) I was told that it wasn't real. I was 13, Dr's told my parents I was getting all the kidney infections and other symptoms from having sex. (I was a virgin until i was 19.) My Roman catholic boomer parents went ballistic. And the lack of proper medical care has left me with problems i still deal with to this day. Long story longer, it is wonderful that a respected medical professional who has a respected media platform acknowledged these things.
How could a doctor say TSS doesn't exist? It's not like it's ONLY caused by tampons anyway, it can be caused by bacterial infections of any wound or viral infections like chickenpox
Media doctors can be the worst WHEN they only care about notoriety and not their patients. My kidney doctor as I was going through kidney failure while having my child, was the worst as he appeared on the News in the city we lived and everything regularly. When I would call him because my legs were cramping, it was automatically, take potassium, your potassium is low. That is dangerous, not only for kidney function decline but heart as well (I have a murmur and other stuff). I did not know this so blindly did what this doctor said, as well as did a round of chemo while still on high doses of Prednisone, and almost bled to death because of it. This doctor is what led me into nursing since I didn't have the energy to become a doctor and go to school that long, and when I had to stop working as a nurse I got my pharmacy tech certification and tried to keep working then as well. Just couldn't keep working.... but I could use my education from keeping doctors and pharmacists from killing me before my medical mess does.
I met an older man yesterday, a veteran, who has been diagnosed with rectal or colon cancer, but won't find out which cancer until his next appointment in SEPTEMBER. He was not starting treatment in Sept, that he knew of. I could see by his expression that he was afraid that it would be too late by then. I asked him why such a long wait and he told me that it's the way the Veteran's Hospital works. It sickens me that our government hospitals treat our military veterans like they are already too damaged and not worth saving. The government officials should be required to use the VA hospitals. But we all know that they would receive special treatment no matter where they went.
They are sent out to fight someone, it seems like the profile stays the same as someone doesn't get sent out to war by people that ultimately care about your personal health. It's also possible they're under-funded because it's like giving to charity, barely anyone does it, I don't know. At least that they aren't giving care by anyone because they've served their purpose, so if they're funded by the government they get a tiny slice of the budget. I personally have no care as the U.S. invades other countries and kills whoever they want under whatever pretence and acts like a world police, but it's interesting that they are treated similarly by their own countrymen.
Typical functioning people shouldn't fall for this kind of blatant deception. I think the people who buy goop are mentally unwell. Hear me out. I think instead of shutting down goop we should use it as a means to get people professional help. Find people who buy the products, reach out and help them
You should make debunking this industry more of a series! Sharing this with people I know who are really wrapped up in some of these scams might really help! I also find some of these claims quite comical, and would love to hear more!
The medical community, even female docs, nurses, etc. often treat women horribly. I was hospitalized for over 2 weeks with 2 broken vertebrae and a broken rib and had to beg to even get ibuprofen. They only gave OTC Icy-Hot patches mostly. When they took me for CAT scans, I told them I was going to vomit from pain. They didn't believe me until the inside of their CAT scan looked like the Exorcist movie. I have many more such stories. Stay safe, everyone!
Yeah, you'd think female doctors would be better, but it's not that simple. Some of my least empathetic doctors have been women. It may in some cases be a self-protective mechanism in response to sexism in the industry.

I returned several months later for a visit to discuss my extremely difficult and painful periods. She disregarded and disrespected me. I stayed for another two years in the practice and she was my OB for my 4th pregnancy. She detected an issue very early in my pregnancy. It required close supervision throughout the pregnancy. Thankfully, my child was born healthy and was monitored for the first year without issue. I will say she was a great OB and clinically; she was a great doctor. However, her bedside manner, concern for me as a patient, and our ideals were not in line with each other. I then Changed to male doctor that I stayed with until he retired and was lucky enough to find another and incredibly fantastic male Gyn that I have had ever since. He performed several surgeries on me and discovered that I had fibroids and undiagnosed endometriosis. I tell you all this to try to encourage you to find another doctor. It can be extremely important to your health. You have to be an advocate for your own health. I understand how frustrating and frightening this can be. You can walk out on any doctor that doesn’t suit your ideals or doesn’t treat you as a whole. Not all doctors are right for you just because they have the certification. I promise you matter enough to find one that does work for and with you and they are out there.
I remember my second or third Pap smear the female doctor yelling at me to relax my cervix. I was 15, yelling at me certainly isn’t going to relax anything, including my cervix. And my dealing with the medical community have been just downhill since then.
I work in phase 1 cancer clinical trial research. We quite literally only see patients with the worst prognosis that have exhausted all other means of treating their cancer, and volunteer to test new drugs that may or may not work/give them more time. Dr. Mike is absolutely correct, and that it is unfortunately not uncommon for us to meet patients who once had very treatable forms of cancer whose now last options are experimental treatments, all because they were led to believe things like teas, supplements, essential oils, etc. would cure their cancer. I almost lost it once in a tea store when a woman with cancer came in struggling and mentioned none of her cancer treatments were working, and the store owner proceeded to sell her on some tea that would "flush out all toxins" and "cure anything, including cancer". These people have NO IDEA how dangerous and impactful the misinformation they are spreading is, just trying to make a buck at someone else's expense. I can't thank Dr. Mike enough for highlighting this issue. I, for one, particularly appreciate his hard work stopping this nonsense.
I would've been just like you. It's bad enough that people have to suffer through incurable diseases and chronic illnesses without unscrupulous and ignorant people increasing their misery.
We need more doctors like you in the world. Nothing burns my soul more than people making money off of peoples insecurities. Don't ever stop what you're doing. It is so important!
I know I'm six months late, but recently Boss Lee/Jessie Lee Ward died and as cruel as a person she was, she was ultimately a victim of blatant misinformation. She passed away at 35 from colon cancer, surrounded by people who told her she could ultimately meditate herself into being cured. Thank you for your free and accessible information and studies ♥️
Thank you for talking about how much women are mistreated by the medical system. Lots of us know it, but you have a big platform to educate others. I have 3 different chronic illnesses and have for 10+ years now. When I first went to a doctor (even a female one.....) I was told "it's probably a UTI" and pushed out the door. It took ages to find a doctor who would actually listen to me and provide me help rather than gaslighting and obstruction.
I was called a hypochondriac during my first doctor visit in several years after I listed my issues and history. Which wasn't many, especially after not seeing a doctor for years. And none of it was serious.
It’s just not women who are mistreated. There are gender biases on both sides. When men get diseases that some healthcare professionals consider 'women's diseases,' they are diagnosed at later, more serious stages, and vice versa
Mike is a breath of fresh air. He’s living proof that it’s possible to be successful on social media without promoting for ridiculous, sensationalized trends. Keeping it real ✌️
At 2:05 that's exactly what happened to my mom. She refused chemo because some guy out there was holding seminars talking about how he beat cancer with just holistic medicine. My mom believed the person so much that it spread to stage 4 and then when she realized none of it was working, she went with chemo. By the time she went through chemo, not only was it too late... She suffered through all the cons of chemo and didn't even get to reap the pros of it because she started so late in the stages. At the end of the day as much as I tried to convince her, she was set on her ways because she was convinced by that one guy who got lucky and now thinks he's some sort of miracle worker. I respected her decision and that's that. She's her own person so she ultimately gets to make that choice.
I'm so sorry that you lost your mom this way. There is such a thing as spontaneous remission of cancer, which could be what happened to the scammer who victimized your mom. It's rare, but it does happen.
I would put 1000 likes on this if I could. I detest when celebs use their notoriety to hawk faux science . Between Gwyneth and Jenny McCarthy (and many others) so much damage has been done with medical information, it makes me furious. THANK YOU, DR. MIKE for calling out this BS!!
Nice you share your thoughts about this cause alot of us fall for it. Doctors must go crazy when seeing there own doctor and they tell them what there doing. Or maybe they often don't tell them too I bet.🫣
Many years ago a girl told me that sleeping in a bra would cause cancer and I was very confused. Now I know who to blame for that blatant misinformation. Thank you, Gwyneth, delightful as always.
From my understanding the bra issue is more to do with the metal underwire in many. There was a concern that the metal may have been picking up some kind of electrical or radio wave similar to any metal antenna. Metal underwire bras come onto the market at the time that breast cancer numbers were growing across the populations in first world. ( 80's/ 90's) The metal underwire is the concern is the same as the living around major electrical grid transmitters and the mobile phone concerns. Things seem to morph into all sorts of different ideas, but having something blocking blood and lymph flow anywhere is not healthy for a body to always have. I personally do not bother with magazines like goop and agree with the general consensus that it is snake oil, but it is always worth digging deeper into realities of ideas AND most importantly realise weatern medicine in general is often extremely damaging and the statitics are there for all to see. The soft bras are the ones to wear at night which is probably what you naturally do anyway.
You guys sleep in a bra?! That's uncomfortable af!! I can't imagine having a bra on constantly and only taking it off for showering. My breasts need their freedom! XD
"There is zero evidence that wearing stickers will reduce your anxiety" Well, that's a phrase I never thought would be necessary for the world to acknowledge.
We are getting more stupid by the day. My favourite quote is that in the UK we have a car manual which, fifty years ago, used to tell you how to mend the car. It now warns against drinking the contents of the battery.
Look, in the context that Goop is asserting this is absolutely stupid. But everyone is different, and sometimes having a certain sticker with your favorite picture/design/texture/color can help you with grounding technique. Absolutely NOT in Goop way, but in personal-calming-item-to-focus-into-while-having-panic-attack way.
@@LizzyDizzyYo haha yeah I was gonna say something like this. Stickers can potentially help with certain anxiety symptoms, but you can get a whole sheet of fun stickers from the dollar store, or buy neat designs from independent starving artists online or at craft fairs and expos. All much cheaper options than the goop ones, and they probably won't give you chemical burns like the goop ones either 😬
My stepdad sought alternative treatment for cancer and didn’t make it. I feel my parents made a decision off the information they were given. I advised against it, but I respected their decision. People don’t realize how dangerous and harmful spreading misinformation can be. Knowledge is power. Thank you for helping people make better decisions.
How many people have “beaten” cancer through alternative means compared to conventional means (not just chemo), and is it proven that the alternative means caused it to be cured? Also, do you have sources?
@@karavera so... what? You think we shouldn't promote proven, effective treatments because they aren't 100% effective? It's just as reasonable to use a completely untested method and let the cancer spread? There's people who have survived cancer without treatment. Doesn't mean we should just wait it out in all cases. Cancer treatment isn't a guaranteed cure but it's your best shot at survival.
As someone who works in a facility that uses Ozone as a disinfectant, ozone getting into your digestive system at all will WRECK you. Even consuming a product out of a container that was disinfected with ozone before the ozone has had time to break down 48-72 hours will kill your internal gut biome.
@@joane24Based on the comment, I assume it would be dangerous unless you wait for that mentioned time period for it to break down. I’m not actually sure though.
@@joane24 If they are a well managed pool, there are protocols for how long the ozone has to disperse in the water before people can come in. Same with Chlorine. Staff hit the pool with chlorine at night when the pool is closed and by opening at 5:00 am it should be at the right level. That's why lifeguards are always checking the chemical balance at the pool. At least where we live I should add...
I am so glad that someone has debunked the idea that underwire bras are bad for you!! I have had medical professionals tell me they're bad and do nothing but harm the connective tissue making the problem worse, not better. I just got to the point where I said, "Unless you're going to carry them for me, I'll wear what makes me feel better and secure."
Well, there have been medical studies linking bras to muscular atrophy, but that's more in the line of "you don't really need a bra, your breasts have muscles who can do the same thing". As far as I remember, there never was a mention of any other serious health issues. That's really not much help for more endowed women though...
I have a feeling breasts used to be supported just fine on their own, but maybe now taking away that need by using bras, they have become weaker. Like not training and being weak, as you don't use the areas and they weaken, down to a point. I don't train and have almost never done so and I'm not a pile of bones on the floor. But they aren't strong if going against someone that has trained, presumably. Never fought anyone, wouldn't know. I would be curious how I would fare against different stages of a trained woman, if I can beat any of them as an entirely untrained man. Obviously I move around and lift some light stuff here and there in my life, but no deliberate training and nothing heavy done in other parts like in a work environment. At best I move my legs up and down a lot when sitting down. I believe there are videos of it and the claimed end result was that the trained women lost.
I am all for alternative medicine and therapies, but I need evidence based studies and info to inform my decisions. I do chiropractic, acupuncture, meditation classes. Sound healing helps me with mental health but I know it’s not going to cure my anxiety or depression.
Your example really hit home because my uncle recently passed away due to cancer. He'd been having gastric troubles for a year or so, but instead of going to a doctor he went to a naturopath who put him on a restricted diet and a supplement regime. By the time he went to a real doctor and was diagnosed with cancer there was very little they could do. Had he got cancer treatment around the same time he first went to the naturopath he would have almost certainly survived.
I just found out this weekend my mom had been misdiagnosed for a condition that led her to have a surgery that was unnecessary and did not correct the issue. The doctor didn't follow up with one simple question, because he saw a post-menopausal woman with two kids and jumped to a conclusion that was completely wrong. I'm appalled at the entire situation.
I have a relative who is suffering from long covid. She lives in Sweden and she's in her mid 20s. She was a nurse, but didn't get the proper protection, and fell sick. she's been sick for years now and it's so sad. She's only awake for a few hours a day and can't work. Still, she stays positive and can go for very short walks. She was so excited when she saw northern lights a few months ago. My heart aches for her and I really hope she gets better .❤😔
@@luxuryseaviewvillas6744 Omgosh you’re laughing at her comment BUT you didn’t even understand what she meant. Her cousin is a NURSE, meaning at the hospital, while she was WORKING, she wasn’t wearing all the proper clothing + gear and therefore made it much easier for her to catch COVID bc she was working in a hospital where soooooo many sick people went. She wasn’t being a Covid Karen-she was just saying she is a nurse and exposed to it so much more than the average person.

I had stomach/ gut issues. IBS and GERD while medical care only helped me to keep my symptoms under control. when i started taking kefir and bovaine colostrum i kind of cured my IBS and GERd. I still take kefir on and off to this day to keep my gut healthy.
I have received medical advice to take Kefir’s cousin yoghurt for my GI problems. This was in the 1980s, it’s not new. When kefir came along it was encouraged
Thank you for calling out the mistreatment of women in the medical system. I suffer from debilitating migraines, to the point I’ll be unable to move for days. Every time I saw a doctor, they immediately blamed it on my cycle, even if I wasn’t on my period and sent me home with pain meds. No one has ever tried to help me figure out what’s going on.
On the other end of the spectrum I was literally having involuntary limb movements with pain in my head and got told it was a migraine :/ both neurologists I saw did not look at my MRIs. The third neurologist was like “uh this is obviously not migraine” and said the MRI was definitely not normal
Migraine is never taken seriously. We are silent sufferers. They wouldn't even give me a scan. They don't care about our pain, the emotional toll and how we struggle to work and live carefree. I saw a male doctor once and he instantly wrote me off as my migraine being caused by the pill. My own doctor is a woman and she tries her best for me. Neurologists don't care to see me, either.
Thank you so much for calling out the fraud that is Gweneth Paltrow and Goop!! I really don’t understand why the FDA doesn’t regulate these products, claims and companies!!
The fda is over worked understaffed and underpaid so when drug companies give them money to check a product it's very clear you work on that first unfortunatly
maaannn Dr. Mike's work is so important for the US rn, I'm in the UK and we've got our problems but healthcare in the US is in a horrible way. Dr. Mike, the passion that you have to open up the conversation between how bad the US healthcare system is and the perils of regular people's navigation through it is UNFATHOMABLY based my man. It sucks that we're in the world where there's such a maze for US citizens to traverse for healthcare, but you've taken to social media and wielded it as an incredible weapon to both (I guess ideally) change the ways of the healthcare system from higher up, and reassure & repair regular people's beliefs in their own doctors vs going down alternative, 0-evidence routes. Never stop doing this, it's already saving, and will save millions more lives.
Many years ago I worked for a naturopathic doctor who studied at a well known teaching hospital in Washington State. I came down with some kind of bug, and instead of telling me to go home and rest, she gave me injections of B12. One month later I was still very sick and blowing my nose and coughing up dark brick colored mucus. After two months I was still sick but started to heal. Imagine if I had seen a doctor who would have given me an antibiotic and saved me all that pain and suffering. How dare I! Thank you Dr. Mike, for putting truth out to the vulnerable.
Thank you Mike for addressing how the Health Care system unfortunately plays a big part in this. Among my friends who has become parts of circles which use these kind of unproven and in many cases even hurtful remedies, it usually began with them not being treated seriously by physicians, they felt like everyone believed them to be exaggerating, first the health care system and then their friends and family as well as they not getting a diagnosis would lead to some people around them actually assuming they were just making things up. It's a very negative spiral. Then they encountered remedies online and the people in these communities are also really supportive of another. So they felt validated in these communities so they would stop listening to others and only trust these communities, one of my friends have actually distanced themselves from the rest of their friends and they only want to be with people in these communities today, because that's the only place they feel like they're treated with respect and get support. I understand how this happens and I believe that in order to counter the spread of this the health care system needs to do work, us the people around others who need help need to be more supportive and less inclined to assume that people don't have real issues. It's an issue where we all need to work on, well, trust essentially. This was a really good video, thank you again!
I simply love how Mike tackles misinformation, no aggression, no hate, not being hurtful, just providing facts as he tries to guide people in this society that capitalizes on struggle, self hate and insecurities
I really like industry commentary coming from this channel, because it’s truthful and under-discussed elsewhere. I think all of the most impactful industries are not reaping the benefits of healthy and diverse competition, leading to a dichotomy of corporate dominions and scummy snake-oil salesmen. Just look at the pharma, automotive, and agriculture industries. Over-regulation and corporate lobbying have desaturated these markets and all three have had a disastrous impact on American people’s health, lives, and livelihood, with ripple effects felt worldwide. I’d like to see a video talking about the process of becoming a physician in the U.S., and how it might be improved.
On the cancer front: my aunt had breast cancer and after it came back, she started looking for cures and almost fell for a scam. Thankfully, my dad (who retired from being an EMT) was able to talk her out of the “cure” and gave her months more to live with her daughter and son (as she was thinking of stopping her chemo) before she died. Desperate people will try anything.
What always boggles my mind is these celebrities promote these "health" products and are either airbrushed in their pictures or look rather unhealthy when caught by paparazzi. Thank goodness for vids like yours Doctor Mike that calls out these things.
@@GNMbg I’m a total Marvel geek and I loved Pepper Potts. But, after I learned more about GP, I could hardly watch those movies again. Had to stop after 4 or 5 times. 😅
Omg I can't believe you included IUD pain! 😭 I and many other women/female bodied individuals have HORRIBLE experiences with IUD insertion and the worst part is the doctors GASLIGHT us telling us there is no pain, that we are being dramatic or that they've never seen someone in this much pain from the procedure before. 😭 thank you for talking about this even if it is briefly. The experiences women/females have in the medical system are typically awful and full of misogyny and discrimination. I personally have so much anxiety about going to the doctor now because more often than not I get dismissed and gaslight and talked down to than I actually have a good experience and feel listened to.
@@user-ec7wr5jv7dhat's not what she was referencing. The insertion process is extremely painful because of the clamps they stab into your cervix to stabilize it, as well as the actual sensation of the IUD being placed into the uterus. The IUDs effects never caused me any pain and did actually relieve the near constant pelvic pain I had. In the end I had issues with the position of it in my uterus, as well as some increased acne, and had it removed and opted to not replace it. Stopping my "natural functions" was never the painful part. I have endometriosis and my body's natural biological function makes it worse. I can't wait for menopause.
@In B so while abortion is now illegal, we got people telling us that we can't use contraceptives right now? Honestly, the way you speak about the subject makes it sound like you are degrading anyone who uses contraceptives. There honestly is no point to your post, other than sounding like you are basically saying "well that's what you get".
@@user-ec7wr5jv7d IUD insertion hurts almost every woman, regardless of underlying health problems. Many women don't have any issues from having an IUD though, beyond the insertion, and choose to have them long term. Many women have issues with birth control of any kind too and choose to not take them at all. I have no problem acknowledging that birth control isn't for everyone as well as acknowledging that many women have no issues with it at all. The blanket statements you've made about "interfering with the body's natural homeostasis" sure sound like personal opinion to me, as well as totally disregarding that this subject was specifically referring to insertion pain, not long term side effects.
@@user-ec7wr5jv7d you think people don't know that every medical treatment has side effects? You think that starting medical school means you're the only one who knows about drug side effects and women's health? Your original point was that stopping periods would cause pain (which isn't true) when the original comment was about IUD insertion pain (a completely different subject). If you want to just talk about your own personal opinions about birth control, fine, but don't completely ignore the actual point of the original comment and use "informing people that drugs have side effects" as a cover.
I'm female and recently caught Covid. My main symptom ended up being excruciating full-body pain. By the second day, I could no longer handle it and went to the ER to seek pain medication. Now, I want to be clear about something: I hate prescription pain medication. I have horrible reactions to it; it's why, even though I deal with chronic pain every day, I'd rather pop an advil than anything stronger. It was two hours before I was seen. An hour of writhing in the waiting room in pain, then an hour writhing in pain in my assigned room. Finally, when I was seen, the doctor immediately dismissed me because he'd "never heard of pain being a symptom of Covid"... Well, you have now! I begged for just a single pill, just one so I could sleep tonight, I begged for just a single night of relief. I told him my history, that I don't even like these meds, but that I needed help desperately. But I LOOK like a healthy young woman and didn't seem to be in too much distress (maybe because, having chronic pain (which I had informed him of), I have learned not to show it), so he dismissed me. He left the room. I'm pretty sure the nurse at the station directly across the hall from me saw me breaking down and beginning to cry at the idea I would get no relief... and reported that to their superiors. Because not ten minutes later he comes back in and tells me he "discussed" things with his superior, and I'm now getting five oxy and a round of anti-virals due to my numerous medical conditions. I thanked him so much, though I wanted to cuss him out and tell him just because I'm a young woman does not mean he gets to dismiss me, and left with discharge papers and an order sent to my pharmacy. Btw, I had to take two pills that night to get full relief. THAT'S how much pain I was in.
My husband and I both had the full body pain and I was also freezing so bad that I turned my heater all the way up and I felt like my body was burning through my sheets. We had a baby with covid too so we were all suffering. I'm so thankful we got through it
I’m sorry you had to go through that… The first time I got Covid back in June 2023. The body pain in my joints and muscles was awful… I was able to deal with it a little bit by taking lots of hot showers but holy cow! And this most recent time when I got Covid in December 2023… I had Aches and pains again, but not as bad as the first time… The worst and lingering ever since the summer thing that I’ve had to deal with his fatigue and brain fog… I hope you’re doing better now.
That was the only symptom I had with COVID. It felt like my skin was falling off it ached so much. No cough, no headache, no fever, just extreme skin pain.
I wish more people could see this!!! Some people can't see that they are being fed absolute bullshit and it's really upsetting. We need to work on educating the world, seriously!
So true about women's pain. I had agonizing menstrual cramps from the get-go. No help, just the heating pad and Midol advice. My mother would tell me having a baby was 100 times worse than cramps. When I had my first baby, I was 3 centimeters away from giving birth before going to the hospital because the contractions were way less painful than my cramps.
And even if you are lucky enough to be diagnosed with something like endometriosis after 10+ years because someone finally takes you seriously, you’ll still only be recommended ibuprofen and heating pads
Thank you for recognising that women's pain doesn't get taken nearly as seriously as men. I've read medical articles from studies that found in an emergency department, women are less likely to be given pain medicine, and if they do receive it, it takes a lot longer to reach them (us).
As a girl, I think it’s really important to speak out about any women who try to take down other women for money when really women should be building themselves up. I also think it’s nice that you’re educating younger audiences. Thank you Dr. Mike.
Not sure what being women has to do with it. No one should exploit others for money. It's not somehow more reprehensible because she's targeting women.
@@HolyMithexactly, people always say to stop discrimination between gender but then specifically call it out when it’s not relevant. Does this imply that if a man scammed a woman it’s ok? What if a man scammed another man? It’s such a stupid way of thinking, scam is scam.
@@cheddarsunchipsyes8144 I pretty much agree with your sentiments, but I understand where people come from in saying these things. Until I started birth control, my periods were literally the worst pain in my life. I had times where I could barely stand up, barely had the energy to do anything. Now, I understand men not being able to fully understand the pain because they literally can't experience it. But I had a female cousin who constantly made it out like I was attention seeking, and was trying to give me "advice" that didn't actually help. It feels like such a betrayal when someone of the same biological sex puts down others and spreads misinformation that can potentially cause harm to yourself and others of the same sex. I'm from the southern US and sexism is still very much a thing here. To a lot of women, it's important to band together, support, and advocate for each other because there are plenty of men that won't help us. You're totally right in that a scam is equally wrong, regardless of gender. I feel OP's comment is more directed at that feeling of betrayal.
Thank you for highlighting the gender disparities in medicine. In my own experience as a woman I have been misdiagnosed, insulted, ignored, and suffered many long-term negative health effects as a result. I hope medicine continues to improve and realize women deserve to be heard.
I've had some amazing doctors out in L.A. of various ages... but I've also been abused and even disabled by medical professionals. One denied me emergency service when I was having a medical emergency. He falsely claimed he examined me (he did not) and I was fine, cause he has assaulted me 2 weeks prior. Cops did not care, neither did the hospital. That 2cd encounter left me with significant brain damage.
He wasn't highlighting the gender disparities. He was highlighting that Gwyneth is human trash. If anything the gender disparity is tipped to favour women. In most countries womens health receives the most funding by a massive margin. There are more womens clinics than men's specialty clinics by a massive margin. Prostate cancer is more widespread and deadly than breast cancer, yet it receives a small portion of funding in comparison. Support for men's mental health is an absolute joke compared to the support for women, hence why victims of suicide are predominantly men by a large margin. " as a PERSON I have been misdiagnosed, insulted, ignored"

Then one day I started to not not color in my vision. I got upset and went back scared to death and the doctor said that it was a mental problem because I was being hysterical. I had the unfortunate experience of having to watch my aunt slowly die from cancer as she refused all treatment and insisted that companies like GOOP would help her heal. By the time she finally caved, it was already too late.
Yes, more awareness on females medical conditions being dismissed please! I had anemia requiring blood transfusion when I was 21. The generalist and the gynecologist both tried to convince me it was my period. It was 2tumors of the size of a fist in my colon, and liver metastases. At this stage it was almost impossible to perform the surgery....
I agree with most of the evidence base of medicine and the differences of correlation vs causation. Sadly, it takes years if not decades to prove cause in various medical problems. The same is true about data in relation the efficacy and problems related to surgeries, devices, and pharmaceuticals. Often times information is just lacking. Thankfully usually when we take drug we know they work pretty well for what they’re taken for. However, we often know much less about harms associated with their use. Informed consent when harms are known is infrequently provided. Because there is less research and funding in research about medical, drug, and device failures, I worry what is considered rare sometimes is just rarely diagnosed. This is particularly true when you consider the context under which medical devices get approved through the FDA, it really only needs the be considered like other approved devices (NOT TESTED). Proving harm in court may be much more difficult if a medical provider, surgery, pharmaceutical or device resulted in harm because the standards are different than suing a supplement brand that resulted in harm. This is not to say there aren’t very serious and real harms caused by wellness industries. There absolutely are. These industries certainly aren’t regulated a strictly as products provided by and regulated by medical professionals, it is just to say that there are significant deficiencies in both options. I agree that wellness products really target and exploit women because we often experience knowledge gaps and discrimination in our care. But to say that traditional medicine is not exploitative of people’s needs and insecurity is patently false. Cancer patients almost always face insurmountable debt and so do women, racial minorities, and people with disabilities in healthcare due to discrimination and knowledge gaps. Eczema patients are told to hide their skin in commercials that advertise expensive biologics to treat eczema so they can “free their skin again.” Traditional medicine is ableist in that it assumes every one can could or should live up to certain “normal” functions. It disregards how how structures, policy and attitudes shape disability as much as the body does. It views disability through the lens of tragedy and loss without considering the richness in such lives and experiences. I am not for or against any of these industries, I utilized both for my care. The truth is the state of regulation and understanding of certain concepts is quite limited both in trad medicine and alternative medicine. I would like to see a more integrated approach. Most of all I think there needs to be better communication and honesty with patients. Second, I think traditional doctors really need to take a closer look at the way their systems and frame work for understanding disability and patient care are creating an environment of frustration and distrust.
Someone I loved very much insisted on following her “health gurus” to treat cancer. It was caught early, but by the time she reached out to the Oncologists, she was too far gone. People think
the effects of chemo are too terrible until you see the horror of someone devastated by untreated cancer.

My cousin remarked, "we gave you 2, then 3, months to get over things & pull yourself together & you haven't.. you won't."
If you haven't gone without..

I am so sorry for all that you've gone through.

Edit: if you could do a video on fibromyalgia our community would be so grateful ❤️ people still have no idea what it is, let alone believe it to be a legitimate condition
I hope you’re having a lower pain day 💜
Mens pain exist too...
@Kar tr obviously. She's talking about women's pain because she's not a man, so therefore can't talk about it due to not experiencing it, just like men can't talk about women's pain for the same reason.

That’s so upsetting I’m sorry that happened to you especially at such a vulnerable age 😢

Sexism at its worst. Show this to the buffoons who deny its existence and how much harder life is for women.
Horrible! How can they do this?! And this is considered "1st world"?
Thank you for this. Very important

In my experience, female doctors have been far less sympathetic to symptoms and pain than male doctors.
@@brandywine4000 wanted to comment the same. I have especially bad experience with female OB/GYN, to the point that I am never planning on seeing one again (maybe it's bad that I am dismissing whole gender, but I got burnt too many times); recently went to one in emergency and left crying and I am a woman in my 30s who isnt overly emotional. Just her attitude and dismissal of my person was very hurtful.
@@jogighopa I’m very sorry you had such a painful experience. Oddly enough, my FIRST experience with the negligence was with a female Obgyn after I had delivered my 3rd child who weighed 9.5 lbs with no anesthesia.

Same unfortunately
Yes! Females are often seen as attention seeking unfortunately.
I was called a hypochondriac during my first doctor visit in several years after I listed my issues and history. Which wasn't many, especially after not seeing a doctor for years. And none of it was serious.
If you really want change, file a complain or lawsuit against the other doctors that failed you
It’s just not women who are mistreated.
Hi
She's her own person so she ultimately gets to make that choice.
was that guy by any chance Dr Health? my mom's story is very similar to yours.

Many years ago a girl told me that sleeping in a bra would cause cancer and I was very confused. Now I know who to blame for that blatant misinformation. Thank you, Gwyneth, delightful as always.
And that's so eerily common across borders. If anything, take it off at night for comfort but inducing fear through misinformation? That's just evil.
To be fair, that one's been around way longer than GP's career. Interesting that it's still being repeated, though.
@@JP-ve7or And GP is profiting off that misinformation where before people probably just didn't buy bras.
From my understanding the bra issue is more to do with the metal underwire in many. There was a concern that the metal may have been picking up some kind of electrical or radio wave similar to any metal antenna. Metal underwire bras come onto the market at the time that breast cancer numbers were growing across the populations in first world. ( 80's/ 90's)
The metal underwire is the concern is the same as the living around major electrical grid transmitters and the mobile phone concerns.
XD
"There is zero evidence that wearing stickers will reduce your anxiety"
Well, that's a phrase I never thought would be necessary for the world to acknowledge.
Maybe this disclaimer should be, I don’t know, on a sticker?😏
To be fair, you could argue that nicotine patches are basically stickers too, and quitting cigarettes can help with anxiety...
No goop stickers tho
@@LizzyDizzyYo haha yeah I was gonna say something like this. Stickers can potentially help with certain anxiety symptoms, but you can get a whole sheet of fun stickers from the dollar store, or buy neat designs from independent starving artists online or at craft fairs and expos. I know several people who had cancer and first did traditional chemo etc and died, so….
They do if youre allergic to nickle or metal or have dermatographia.
They don't care about our pain, the emotional toll and how we struggle to work and live carefree.

Thank you! I’ve been telling people how awful she is for years. She thinks she’s a medical expert because she had a role in the movie “Contagion.”
dont disrespect Iron Man's girl
@@GNMbg I’m a total Marvel geek and I loved Pepper Potts. But, after I learned more about GP, I could hardly watch those movies again. Had to stop after 4 or 5 times. 😅
Dude this sucks because I loved her in iron man, I never knew she was like this
@@Feelingabitgoofy The last straw for me was when COVID broke and she was selling her designer masks for $200.
@@GNMbg Who cares. She's not that attractive, anyway.
Medical editor here. It will now be my life's work to get "Trust me bro" into a reference list. 💀💀💀
I can remember as a younger woman my male dr telling me to suck it up, there was no pain with IUD’s.. sooo painful..
I'm so thankful we got through it
Recommend reading about TMS and Dr. JOHN SARNO
It's a brand new disease and he thinks he knows everything about it. The sheer arrogance!
Let's get her on the channel lmao. I'd love to see a conversation between Mike and someone like Gwyneth
That would be fantastic, but I doubt that she'd do it.
that would be epic, almost like a boxing match, couldnt see it ending well for old Gwyneth 😄
Id like to see Mike and Gwyn in a real boxing match.
I wish more people could see this!!! Some people can't see that they are being fed absolute bullshit and it's really upsetting. We need to work on educating the world, seriously!
Yes no trust cuz not in tribe
So true about women's pain. I had agonizing menstrual cramps from the get-go. No help, just the heating pad and Midol advice. My mother would tell me having a baby was 100 times worse than cramps. When I had my first baby, I was 3 centimeters away from giving birth before going to the hospital because the contractions were way less painful than my cramps.
DANG. People experience pain differently and also there could be an underlying problem
And even if you are lucky enough to be diagnosed with something like endometriosis after 10+ years because someone finally takes you seriously, you’ll still only be recommended ibuprofen and heating pads
It’s so weird to me that Gwyneth Paltrow has been a guest on Shark Tank MULTIPLE times, when her business “acumen” is selling products like this 🙄
People are buying her rubbish, so I guess she is succeeding on that front.
They were lying about the stickers but maybe if someone didn't know it was bullshit the placebo effect might've done something.
@@Gomet22 Would be interesting to see if there is a placebo effect, if the ethics allow for such a study. My guess is none would be observed.
@@Gomet22 Of course, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the stickers themselves do nothing, but are being marketed like they do.
Especially when you consider Mark Cuban is one of the sharks and is NOTORIOUS for calling out medical BS when being pitched on the show!!!
Thank you for recognising that women's pain doesn't get taken nearly as seriously as men. I've read medical articles from studies that found in an emergency department, women are less likely to be given pain medicine, and if they do receive it, it takes a lot longer to reach them (us).
And because of that, people are less likely to go, even if it’s something serious because you know how you’ll be treated

I love that he's sharing his opinions this way, informative and helpful 😊 well done!
I didn't see anything about 'gender disparities' in this video.
@@baronmeduse Go back and watch from around the 2:55 minute mark. He mentions his theory about why so many of these companies target women. How women have been hurt more by the traditional health care system. How they are misdiagnosed more often, etc. So women are more likely to fall for these scams because they haven't been helped by their doctors so they look for alternative care and solutions.
@@trinitylane2202 It was a natural extension of the discussion of certain treatments which Paltrow obviously promotes for women. The general notion that women are more ignored, misdiagnosed, insulted etc is drivel.
YOOOOO thank you Dr Mike for putting this out! I was treated horribly by doctors when I was in my late teens early twenties. My vision had starting getting worse and I kept going to the eye doctor and they would increase my Rx. Then one day I started to not not color in my vision. I got upset and went back scared to death and the doctor said that it was a mental problem because I was being hysterical. Finally my godfather who was a doctor found someone for me to see and when they did the exam it turned out that I had an EXTREMELY rare case of glaucoma and they had to do emergency surgery. You can bet that I have raised my daughter to be her own advocate because that kind of thing still happens
omgoodness, thats horrific
Are you a woman?, Its the male doctors! , i just read about some docs, they just dont take us females seriously, no problem with men tho!. Its been this way since the beginning of time. Our illnesses are made up, or of course itd blamed on hysterics, infact i think that was the exact excuse male doctors would give women in the 40/50's that or they would blame everything on too much housework. People, especially woman have to be our own advocates, either this or get a female doctor, ina. study they did it was found out female doctors give better care and listen better overall, with both genders

Holy crap, that’s horrible.
I cannot stress enough how grateful and proud I am that you’re calling out all of this BS for what it is. Thank you so much!
Eczema patients are told to hide their skin in commercials that advertise expensive biologics to treat eczema so they can “free their skin again.”
Traditional medicine is ableist in that it assumes every one can could or should live up to certain “normal” functions.
