Melatonin production is one small part of the sleep process - the one study that found "blue light" kept you awake were actually overclaming, they found specifically that some people were awake for an extra 10 minutes when they used an ipad vs reading a book. 10 minutes. Doctor Mike: 1. I enjoy your channel. 2. I'm surprised GOOP hasn't been sued multiple times for endangering people's health, or for fraud. 3. Please have Ms. Corcoran back again. She is a treasure.
They're masters of the snake oil salesman's technique of using expressive language to say nothing important. That and the asterisk. They rely on lack of education, disinformation, and laziness (they make it fine print for a reason) to manipulate people into spending money they don't have on things they don't need.
That's why they have the *s. As long as they disclose in tiny print that their products aren't guaranteed to work or approved by the FDA, they can say almost anything.
Goop actually did get fined for making unsubstantiated claims about two of their products, one being that their ridiculous jade egg can help prevent uterine prolapse.
I saw the mat and my first thought was "ngl a heated mat to lay on after a cold day wouldn't be bad (even if I'd never pay goop prices for something like that)" then I remembered my heated blankets. Literally can just lay on top of them instead of under them if I need that feeling, and it cost me less than $100.
For an added treat, I sometimes put my heating blanket under the duvet so the entire bed is warmed up to nice and toasty when I go to bed. Basically a massive hot water bottle
Exactly. There are also specific "heated underblankets" that you put between your mattress and your bedsheet. I have one of them, cost me about £25 a few years ago, and it's been amazing. You can turn it on before you come to bed or while you're in it - it only takes a few seconds to a few minutes (depending on how cold it is that day) to warm you up.
The collab we never knew we needed! Shark Tank was and still is a childhood classic! This day cannot get any better, and I have Doctor Mike, his whole team, and Barbara Corcoran to thank for!
As a PT student, we're taught the "pelvic clock" exercise to help individuals engage certain pelvic floor muscle/overall pelvic control - I think that device may be useful (if used properly) because many people (including myself) have difficulty with this exercise!
this! i’m a sports medicine and athletic training student, and we often learned about accessibility for patients and athletes. obviously the product is too expensive from goop, but the pelvic clock makes lower abdominal and pelvic stretches and exercises more accessible for those with limited mobility!
I laughed so hard at the air purifier, that's basically what I use to make bioactive reptile tanks XD So you can get pretty much all that at the pets store lol
I thought the same thing…a compressed block of coir is maybe 5$, dried moss and silk might set you back about $8/pound. Not too mention that your air would most likely have MORE particulates vs. untreated air.
Pet store, garden centre, and a place to buy a small fan (likely something like a computer fan...). It's basically a $360 terrarium that, at MOST would cost 45 bucks to make at home. Probably pretty useless for its purpose (that is NOT going to purify the air in a room), but hey, it looks pretty! Maybe add something red in there with that handful of moss and sell for $450! Slip a $5 HEPA filter over the fan - $750!!
Dr. Mike always brings new and cool EPs but this time it hits differently with Barbara that shows she's amazing at guessing the price. Appreciate Dr. Mike for another fun and informative EP. 🐱
I'm missing my first lumbar vertebra due to a pricey miscommunication with my horse, and I've used something like that red plastic rolly thing. Pretty sure it was way cheaper since I got it from my PT, but it helped me recover quickly. I'd pay $100 for it if I was in that situation again.
I saw her on a short where a guy asks New Yorkers what their rent is and for a tour of their house. She seemed absolutely delightful - I’ve never seen her show but given her humour and generous attitude on that vid, and here, I will definitely check it out in the future.
As per my father, who's an Optometrist, "Blue light filters are important, and in glasses, they're also important. They also cost about $0.50 to add the tint that blocks the blue light." Transition tint costs $2 per pair of lenses. Frames are also ridiculous in their margins but you can blame that on Luxottica Group - who owns the entire Glasses Frames market, plus Lens Crafters and EyeMed Vision Care.
In my country it's the opposite. Frames are reasonably priced but they add a ridiculous charge for anything to do with the lenses. At one point, my glasses cost more than my smartphone because I didn't know any better and said yes to the extra lens features (blue light filter, anti scratch protection, higher refractive index).
blue light filter is also very good in preventing some kinds of migraine and auras, as I learnt on myself, but those glasses don't cost much. As for Luxottica, actually frames in my country are way way cheaper than graduated personalised lenses. A good pair of glasses may cost easily over 300 euros
Be what ever your inner feelings wants u to be because thats graved into ur own soul and how cool would it be, how amazing would it feel to live a live u would love to live?
I think the vitamin C is to add to skin serums not to smoothie shots. It's possible it could do something to 'boost' you complexion if it's the right form but pretty dangerous to just throw random vitamin C concentrations into your skin care. Better to buy pre-mixed.
I love Dr. Mike's explanation of a "boosted" immune system. I have auto immune diseases and its so hard to explain to people my messed up immune system and why I get flared and sick.
I agree with Mike with the posture corrector. I was diagnosed with a slight case of scoliosis not too long ago (about a year or so) and my grandma had a posture corrector. She recommended me I wear it during school. Immediately when wearing it, I find it extremely bothersome and I become very achy, more achy than normal. Just after a few days of it I refused to wear it ever again and instead I got some physical therapy. Now these days I do exercises alone and my back is feeling better than ever! Loved watching this by the way, was very fun! ❤
Truth. I have one right now as a "for the time being" aid in my journey for better posture (im having tingling and pain because of rounded shoulders pissing off my nerves 😂) but only stretching and strengthening exercises will work long term
8:34 This sounds like a TENS machine, which is also used for chronic neurological pain management, not just muscle stimulation? I was recommended to use one by the local pain clinic team - it doesn't stop the pain longterm, but it can provide temporary relief, if you can find the right combo of strength and wavelength.
Doctor Mike you have taught me just as much as nursing school has! I love this channel; and speaking as someone with autoimmune disease thank you for telling people what a BOOSTED immune system actually does?!
Reindeer moss is a lichen, so a fungus that’s inhabited by an algae. It’s dead so the only thing that’ll happen to it is decomposition if the air is humid enough. But either way inhaling small fungal particles cannot be good for your lungs. Coco coir resists decomposition and has some antifungal properties but it releases a lot of small dust particles. None of those things are going to filter out all the particles that you’d want it to filter out, potentially even introducing harmful particles.
@@Amity_Oh_CramityWell, I would have but because you were unnecessarily rude, I won’t. Insulting people gets you nowhere, had you asked nicely I would have watched you’re channel no problem. Also, to say “stop watching” is cruel, because firstly, you provide different videos. People look for different things to keep him entertained. His are medical, yours aren’t. And people do watch more than one UA-camr. Just saying😄, spread kindness not hate😊
TENs are also great for blocking nerve pain signals. I have chronic nerve pain in my lower back, sometimes when it's really bad I whack on the TENs and I can at least function a bit better 😊

Hah! Was just watching some episodes of Shark Tank and now here. What a nice surprise! This was a delight and you two have great chemistry. It's nice to see Barbara a bit more off the cuff than on Shark Tank
4:42 I agree with everything but this. Maybe 2k is a bit overpriced, but there's a really big cost in the parts which emit that Far-IR radiation, because they have to be spread out over the entire mat. Not to mention control circuitry, power supply and the base cost the mat would've had without the radiation equipment. _I'm not saying that it would be a reasonable heated mat to buy, obviously._
@@Amity_Oh_Cramity honestly I have been seeing too many of these lately so if you are just going to make fun and be rude to Doctor Mike then just leave please.
She seems like a delightful woman to be around! There's been talk on TikTok that we should be using bile salts if we've had our gallbladder removed. Can you confirm this in a video? Maybe you can format it as things that doctors may forget to tell you, or something along those lines?
Would love to hear Dr Mike cover this. For your own situation, ask your primary care doctor. From what I have seen, the websites that say you need bile salt supplements are the ones that sell bile salts. The more reputable, non-commercial sites, like the Mayo clinic, don't mention bile salt supplementation in their question and answer columns about gallbladder removal and digestive issues. Your liver will still be producing bile salts. The role of the gallbladder is to control how much is released and when.
Hey Dr. M! I love what you’re doing! I think it would be cool if you reacted to Hunger Games injuries. I know most of them are fatal but I would still like to hear your take on them! Keep doing what you’re doing! ❤
Barbara moving on and being a boss from her last relationship inspired me to.move on from a horrible abusive relationship and I'm currently in nursing school . Just finished my first year and can't wait for my future . Thank you Barbara
Fun dynamics!:) I use oura ring for a year now: - stopped drinking almost completely (saw in numbers what alc does to my sleep for several days) - moving more ( their activity assessment algorithm, but a gamification moment worked for me well) - chill more when fatigued (can show bad stats to my family and they leave me alone :)) It is more accurate in comparison to fitness bracelets due to permanent closeness to skin. Said that... It's overpriced for what it is. I would wait a year or so for wearable market to get more saturated
The Oura ring is absolutely worth to buy. It shows very accurately your sleeping patterns and you can make some changes to your evening routines to get more rest. Same goes with exercise, the data is very easy to understand. I don't like to wear a big watch on me but ring is very handy.
The whole posture thing is why I really started focusing on training my back properly when lifting. The military is so obsessed with push-ups as part of their physical fitness assessment that I accidentally began overtraining my chest and developing a forward “hunch”.
"Do you really want a boosted immune system?" As someone who's been living with Psoriasis, I can confirm you really don't. Unless you love having: - Itchy skin legions on your arms and legs (Don't scratch BTW as tempting as it might be, Instant bleeding and pain) - Spots on your abdomen that feel like you've got fish hooks lodged in and pulling on you every time you turn - Reduce flexibility in your joints It just amazes me that this stuff is just allowed to exist.

Literally can just lay on top of them instead of under them if I need that feeling, and it cost me less than $100.
I'm in love with you
$35 at costco.

I love Barbara. She’s always so funny in her interviews.

I thought Mike is competitive (and he is!), but Barbara is just on whole another level of competitiveness!
I laughed so hard at the air purifier, that's basically what I use to make bioactive reptile tanks XD So you can get pretty much all that at the pets store lol
They probably did, or use the same manufacturer/distributor as pet shops
I thought the same thing…a compressed block of coir is maybe 5$, dried moss and silk might set you back about $8/pound. Not too mention that your air would most likely have MORE particulates vs. untreated air.
@@nathanbennett9563 Really makes you *feel* like a reptile.
@@bobd2659 unfortunately, it might actually sell at that price too -.-
"pricy miscommunication" I love it!
They also cost about $0.50 to add the tint that blocks the blue light."
Transition tint costs $2 per pair of lenses.
Frames are also ridiculous in their margins but you can blame that on Luxottica Group - who owns the entire Glasses Frames market, plus Lens Crafters and EyeMed Vision Care.
Yeah I really don’t get how putting glass inside of a super easily replicated plastic frams is so expensive
@@SheliakDragon same, my glasses are more expensive than my phone lol. But at least they are photochromic so it's two in one I guess.
blue light filter is also very good in preventing some kinds of migraine and auras, as I learnt on myself, but those glasses don't cost much. As for Luxottica, actually frames in my country are way way cheaper than graduated personalised lenses. A good pair of glasses may cost easily over 300 euros
Since I was a child, I have always wanted to be a nurse and Dr. Mike has made it even more amazing and interesting than I thought it was.

I love how Dr Mike can incorporate so much fun within education!
I think the vitamin C is to add to skin serums not to smoothie shots. It's possible it could do something to 'boost' you complexion if it's the right form but pretty dangerous to just throw random vitamin C concentrations into your skin care. Better to buy pre-mixed.
Yeah and theres better things like botanicals with unique potent phytochemistry and ceramides.
Barbara seems like such a kind and genuine personality! I love her smile!

What a gem. I can't even believe she has time to do things like this. Good for her, you enjoy life, Barb's!
I love Doctor Mike's energy, always have but dang, Barbara's is awesome too! We have two happy, funny, knowledgeable people on a video. 💛
Doctor Mike you have taught me just as much as nursing school has! I love this channel; and speaking as someone with autoimmune disease thank you for telling people what a BOOSTED immune system actually does?!
Barbra is so funny! You guys bounce jokes off each other well 🤩
Reindeer moss is a lichen, so a fungus that’s inhabited by an algae.
Barbara is such a vibe holidays with her have to be hilarious

MY IMMUNE SYSTEM IS SO **BOOSTED** IT'S HURTING ME WAHOO
4:42 I agree with everything but this. Maybe 2k is a bit overpriced, but there's a really big cost in the parts which emit that Far-IR radiation, because they have to be spread out over the entire mat. Not to mention control circuitry, power supply and the base cost the mat would've had without the radiation equipment.
_I'm not saying that it would be a reasonable heated mat to buy, obviously._

Just in case you guys wanted to hear Barbara say Wonkers again
Isn’t our gallbladder not even needed for our survival?
Hey Dr. M! I love what you’re doing! I think it would be cool if you reacted to Hunger Games injuries. I know most of them are fatal but I would still like to hear your take on them!

Watching this, a year later, I never would have expected her to be such a nice and chill person. Wow, I'm glad I got to see this side of her.
Barbara moving on and being a boss from her last relationship inspired me to.move on from a horrible abusive relationship and I'm currently in nursing school . Just finished my first year and can't wait for my future . Thank you Barbara
Fun dynamics!:)
I use oura ring for a year now:
- stopped drinking almost completely (saw in numbers what alc does to my sleep for several days)
- moving more ( their activity assessment algorithm, but a gamification moment worked for me well)
- chill more when fatigued (can show bad stats to my family and they leave me alone :))
It is more accurate in comparison to fitness bracelets due to permanent closeness to skin.
Same I love my Oura ring, despite Oura not being perfect
The whole posture thing is why I really started focusing on training my back properly when lifting. The military is so obsessed with push-ups as part of their physical fitness assessment that I accidentally began overtraining my chest and developing a forward “hunch”.
"Do you really want a boosted immune system?" As someone who's been living with Psoriasis, I can confirm you really don't. Unless you love having:
- Itchy skin legions on your arms and legs (Don't scratch BTW as tempting as it might be, Instant bleeding and pain)
- Spots on your abdomen that feel like you've got fish hooks lodged in and pulling on you every time you turn
- Reduce flexibility in your joints
It just amazes me that this stuff is just allowed to exist.
2:09 Mike that’s still a ridiculous rip off just because it’s not over 100 😂😂😂
