    All the best with this project. I just recently picked up a 633i that needs some work as well and it's going to be a labour of love. Cheers. 👌👍👍💯

      Loving evey minute was well. I never thought one could get such a buzz from working on these older cars but this really is a beauty now I have owned one. I always wanted the E9 but this to me is a slightly bigger E9 with air conditioning. Parts are a bit of a nightmare though!

    Hi
    We bid on this and almost bought it as a breaker.
    I restore and break e24s I have all the parts available you need to recommission this we have all the knowledge and parts available for E24s.
    Reach out if you need anything 👍

      That is fanstatic news and thanks for reaching out. Car is now in a bodyshop and they are going to work on the wings and any welding. I had contacted www.xmoorcars.co.uk/ but they did not respond so have resorted to welding. Lucky the shop was very quiet at start of January, so they did not tell me the car was too old. After watching Matt Armstrong's video I knew that the main issue would be rust and to me this car was 100 times better than the one Matt bought as I checked for rust on roof, along the door sills etc. I think it is too early to be 100% certain that this is rust free beneath the car, as that was my main concern, even though I have come to find that good or new parts for this car are golddust. Once the car gets back fom the bodyshop I will move to trying to start the car, so for now if the bodyshop ask for anything I will reach out. Thanks again.

    Had a 1993 850CI 20 years ago, still find them BEAUTIFUL! Your E31 looks really great on these wheels! Def not look like a nearly 35year old car!

      The plan was to move this car along and to try and flip that car for a bit of a profit but it is now my favourite car. The wheels are from Hartge the other BMW tuning company like Alpina. I dread to think how much they would have cost back then. I got more comments from the public the first day I ever got this car than all my cars combined, and currently have exchanged contact details with countless people, It is a great conversation starter and the public in general love this car

    Good luck with this project. I had two of these 633csi & 635csi best cars I've ever owned based on driving pleasure. I admire your enthusiasm and optimism. The tyres are not only expensive but metric you might consider 17" alloys. Two front wings. Change the fuel and do all the necessary recommisioning work for longterm non use. Major project worthy of a subscribe. Do your research £10,000 plus, excluding purchase price, should see you back on the road. A lot of the work will be done by you.

      The way I see it is that is if spend 10K on this, the car will be worth at least that much when I come to sell it so I am getting use of the car and lot losing anything in depreciation. These cars are increasingly rare as many are found in a state of complete rust, most parts are no longer available as well so it is a challenge. My ultimate BMW was the E9, but now after seeing this in the flesh I no longer want an E9. The car is now at a bodyshop and they have started work on any welding that is required in a handful few places, they have not said the car is too much, so fingers crossed the car comes back in a month or so and we can start working on starting the car for the first time.

    Watched the videos of Mat Armstrongs sharknose and the rust on that one was pretty considerable....

    • @ethangarage
      @ethangarage  5 днів тому

      I studied that video and made sure this did not have the rust Matts Car had on the roof and around all the door sills. The car was bought for £3.5 in 2022 and thet managed to get the car to start. These BMW e24's are known for rusting arounf the front fenders/wings and to the public this looks horrendus. This car has a lot of rust but in the right places as I did not want to have to take the car for a full restoration. The car is now with the bodyshop, they currently have not turned the car away or said it is too much rust so fingers crossed!

    Was trying to find my late fathers 635. WPA 34S. With no luck. Was a good car from memory, but wings were rotting out then in mid 90's.
    Costs of classics are too high now now. 2k to get anything half decent that's basically scap in the norm. Good luck with build.

    So:
    I've had a few of these starting with the immaculate white 1984 car for £2200 in 1995...
    The wheels are plantpots and nothing more. A set of Metric TRX tyres is around £2000 and they were never very good. You cannot fit any other tyre to these wheels. You want a set of 15 inch E34 BBNS style 5 wheels - £300 for a tidy set with decent 225/60x15 tyres.
    New wings are £££££££ so remove yours, get them sandblasted carefully and weld new sections in.
    The rust in the roof is rot that has come through from the inside due to condensation trapped between the roof skin and sunroof cassette. You'll need to remove the headlining to see just how much rotten metal to cut out.

    • @danstewart8218
      @danstewart8218 9 днів тому +1

      /\/\/\/\THIS/\/\/\ This is correct about those TRX wheels you can only fit one tyre and they are bad tyres any way, get some replacements. You need to strip the whole car to see just how bad the rust is (unless you're extremely fortunate!) this will be an absolute horror. Sorry to sound so negative. tho its just being realistic. Good Luck.

    That module is probably trans control module.. car won't start without it since it tells the ECU it's in neutral and ok to start. Wiring for the engine and getting it running isn't hard.. simple things and it's running. Now body work is gonna cost you.

    A a owner of one of these for many years and had to do many rust repairs one of the first things I would do is remove the seats and carpets and front wings . I found loads of hidden rust under the wings and carpet .

    Hi Ethan. This was on my wish list many years ago. So was the 850i. Not sure but i think one of the main area's of concern is the front bulkhead. Below the windscreen. Only accessable with the engine & trans removed. Good luck with the project.

    Those TRX wheels are becoming more and more scarce and for me they just complete the car pretty well. Otherwise they also fetch a premium. At least where I live.

      this will be a series, this video is part one. The car is now at the bodyshop and work has started on the wings and welding. Series will include external repair of body, rust repair on jacking points, rust repair beneath car, restoration of all the bumpers, getting the car through and MOT, updating the interior and then finally upgrading the Downpipes in the M30 engine and adding individual throttle bodies. thanks

    Hi. Just found the channel and subscribed. Personally, I love these cars. I have been restoring a 1998 840Ci for about 7 years, I run a 2003 E46 325Ci M Sport as a daily, I also have a 1989 535I E34 which I have done loads of restoration work on, so I know a bit about restoring old BMW's. Please don't take this the wrong way, I may be totally wrong, but looking at your 8 series videos, it doesn't look like you are set up to restore cars yourself. Even if you had the facilities, skills, parts and time, that car would be a major project. If you have to pay someone else to do the work, forget it. You would have as much chance of winning the lottery as that car having "insubstantial" rust as you put it. However, should you decide to tackle it, it will be a great channel to follow.

    Will be interesting to see the state of the floor under that back seat. Not sure if I noticed that the rear valance looked a bit crusty? Re the wings, cant you make-up repair panels assuming it's just the bit we can see is the issue?
    Good luck
