I had a new one in the same colour in the UK when they first came out- It was an incredible machine - I sold it to a guy in Rotherham after putting 50,000 miles on it - he ran it for a year then I bought it back from him and this time sold it to a guy in Australia this car became a racing car and won the Bathurst 500 race - 👍
And this is my quickest response on a comment! Thank you very much! The actual progress ist quite far. I am just a little behind und the video editing. The second episode is almost ready tho so you won't habe to wait to long 🤝🏼
Nice job on the video, will be watching as they come out ! I’m an owner of an 1985 E24 Euro 5 speed so great to see yours ! Good luck with getting it back on the road
Congratulations on your e24! I will guarantee you that you won't regret it :) Actually I am quite far on the project now, recorded everything but I need to find some time to cut the video material. That part is extremely time consuming. See you on the next one!
Turns out my issue was the main relay and one crankshaft sensor so now on to coolant hoses. Question, can you get repair panels there of the left front wheel arch?
Thanks for that info . I will run the engine with the feeler guage between the valve and rocker to see if get rid of the tick . It’s only one cylinder and the tick is half engine speed . Difficult to isolate with rocker cover on ! Could be piston noise ( slap ) ? Vielen Dank Aufwieder Horen Hugo
Hi again SMW , I ran the engine without the rocker cover ( AFM /LMM plugged in but not in airflow ) to find major oil leak from the camshaft oil spray bar banjo bolt being loose . I tightened it and reset the valve clearances at the valve stem side and double checked them . Ticking gone ..... Wunderbar Hugo
Hello Hugo, I am really happy to hear that you found your issue. As I said in the video these Banjo bold can absolutely ruin you day. I would recommend the check them every Oil change / valve clearance adjustment! Have a great weekend!
My 1986 ATG M7 (with M30 engine) has worn Camshaft's Lobes, making tick tick engine noises with just 37,000km! You have any video on how to correct that without buying expensive & hard to find Camshaft/Seals/Gaskets? If not can you weld the lobe without taking it out of the engine. Saying that because these 6 & 7 series have a very lousy resale values.
Hey good luck...with project,i like your methodolgy,sense of humour is good too😀😀 i own a 86 alfa spider,,,,planning of buying a 635csi in next 6 months
Excellent purchase and diagnostics . I have a big coupe 635csi Shadow line 1987 model here in Neu Seeland { NZ } that I have what sounds like a valve clearance problem ( ticking noise ) . The cylinder head has been rebuilt ( 330,000 km ) after Gasket failure , Engine runs sweet with no oil consumption but after a recheck of valve clearance and reset again a fraction tighter I still have this tick ( Just like a tappet ) that starts to appear as the engine temperature rises from cold . Have you any ideas that may assist with this problem . Auf Wiederhoren Hugo Monteith
Hello Hugo, It's really hard to give you a diagnoses without actually hearing the car. Overall what can be said is that these engines do tick. You can reduce the valve clearance tighter and the ticking will be less, BUT the risk of cam wear is significantly higher then. I would recommend to go with OE clearances. However this dies not explain your ticking voice. I have seen calves which had damaged contact surfaces. Maybe doe to the wrong cleances over a long time. The contact surface between valve and rocker arm was extremely uneven and bits have broken out. If you adjust the clearance on such a valve I can imagine that once the engine runs the clearance is out of spec after some time eventually. So maybe check your valve surfaces.
It's a mix of E28 repair manuals like "Jetzt helfe ich mir selbst" and documets from different forums. To understand how things work the BMW spare parts cataloge always helps!
Hello 👋🏼 I don't really want to make the price of the car public. The price seemed pretty good when I bought the car. But as you saw in the videos I already spend quite some time on it and there's still a lot of work to do, so I am not so sure anymore if this was a super deal. Anyway we all love to work on cars so this care gives us all a lot of entertainment, which is at the end what we want from these cars! :) E24 EP #3 is already recorded. To shorten we waiting time I will upload a shorter video about a car you have not seen here yet!
