Highlights of Greece's Pyrros Dimas incredible achievement to win 3 weightlifting gold medals at 3 consecutive Olympic games, the third coming at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
After winning the Olympic gold medal in both Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, Pyrros Dimas arrived in Sydney aiming for the top. Could the mighty weightlifter overcome his previous injuries and be Olympic champion for the third time?
Lifting an impressive 390kg in total, Pyrros Dimas once again earned his position on the highest step of podium, becoming only the third weightlifter ever to win three Olympic gold medals.

Must have been 10,000 Greek in Darling Harbour that day......................It was simply amazing!!!
And we didn't know the half of it. The last couple of weeks, he was overweight and underwent an inhuman amount of dieting and saunas to lose almost 8 kilos for the weigh-in. And had to compete after all that.
Legendary determination.

Pyrros Dimas maybe say to his coach probably to increase to 220 kg because Giorgi Asanidze attempt 215kg in attempt 2 and 3 but unfortunately was unsuccessful .For notes ,Giorgi Asanidze from Georgia set highest Snatch with 180 kg and Marc Huster from Germany was in second with 177,5 kg so Pyrros Dimas left behind because he only set 1 successful Snatch in 175kg at the last lift .The first was fail because time and some supporter ruin his concentration .In Clean and Jerk ,Giorgi Asanidze successful in 210kg so Marc Huster equal him in his third lift with 212,5kg but Giorgi Asanidze had the highest bodyweight and Pyrros Dimas equal they two with 215kg but Dimas have the lightest among these 3 so he lead .I think probably Giorgi Asanidze strategy was wrong because he wait for Dimas attempt 215kg ,Asanidze could be win Gold if he attempt 212,5kg in his attempt 2 and 3 not attempt 215kg where he failed .Eventually his body weight was the highest so he need to put more total .If Giorgi Asanidze successful in 212,5 kg ,his total will be 392,5 kg and Pyrros Dimas will had to put 217,5kg to lead again from 390kg .But it just long ago ,Pyrros Dimas was the winner in Sydney 2000 and Giorgi Asanidze won the 2004 Athens and beat Pyrros Dimas which attempt 4 consecutive Gold

No, if you re-read my comment I never said that. I looked up how many lbs that is and it's about 475lbs. Power cleaning 475lbs is impressive enough but adding in a jerk and holding it there is insane.

Every thing on sport depends in good mind and that good mind doesnt come unless you train very hard after that the difference come from clear mind . I think that :) . And this guy is a real hero and i think that he have a really strong lower back . Correct me if im wrong

Dimas was full of injuries and took two injections to compete. Injuries beat Pyrros in Athens, noone else.

To the older lifters out there look at this fellows upper body compared to Shary,Rigert,Kolotov where upper body muscle for the press was essential now lower body hips and legs muscle is needed for snatch and clean and jerk.

Yuen Soon actually, he ran out of time on his first attempt, then on his second a telephone in the crowd rang just as he lifted the bar off the ground, throwing him off focus. He was about to be disqualified, but luckily he got the 3rd attempt and the gold medal!
