Something not mentioned: after his missed third attempt at 207.5kg, he patted the barbell, walked to the side of the platform to remove his shoes, and then crossed to exit the stage for his last time. A sportsman in the truest sense and a great athlete for a reason.

Imagine what it must feel like to be a world class athlete, a 4 time Olympian no less, in one of the toughest Olympic sports.
To receive all the adoration he did was thoroughly deserved, just think of all the blood, sweat and tears that occurred behind the scenes. People always forget that nothing comes easy, we see videos like this, see the end itself not the means to the end. He is awe inspiring, I can't imagine what those 4 years in between must've been like for him. 99% of us won't be able to fathom it either. God bless him

I need to say something after watching this inspirational video. I never knew about Pyrros Dimas until today. I almost cried at the end. How many hours of training, passion, patience goes into his work. It's mindblowing. How he even risk he's health to achive bronze medal in front of his nation. He's a living legend and now inspiration to me. Respect and love from Ukraine to the Greek GOD - PYRROS DIMAS! Now I will never forget your name.

Still kills me knowing that if he had made the last clean and jerk, he would have won a 4th gold medal due to having the lighter bodyweight
Its even more powerful to know he was competing while recovering from surgery, and he still cleaned, and ALMOST got the jerk. Brings a tear to my eye
And he failed in the attempt before that, he had a wrist problem and leg injury, and was almost crying under the weight, and yet he STILL attempted it, and he almost got it. The spirit is beyond moving. And the fact that he loves his country so much and how winning any medal in front of his people and for his people matters more than a gold, insane.
Not to mention that his 2004 total (377.5) was higher than his 1992 one (370, which won gold medal).

I saw him lift in the 2004 Olympics, I remember because the whole arena chanted DIMAS, DIMAS, DIMAS!!! I’ve never seen something like that at any strength event. The house was shaking with DIMAS, DIMAS, HELLA, HELLA!!!
the standing ovation was about 12mins! for 12 mins the crowd was screaming HELLAS and PYRROS! That never hapened for any athlete in olympic games again! There is no bigger honor than a crowd cheering your name, he relived the ancient glory and the true olympic game honor ! he glorified Hellas with his medals, and the Hellas glorified him with stoping the ceremony with standing ovation! Legendary
i never knew him never heard of him. but since i have watched his vedio's i dont know wat happnd to me i am inspired a lot by this guy.. great man..

I remember watching Athens 2004 games, I was 6 years old and being amazed by him, the HUGE AMOUNT OF CROWD on his last competition is a thing I haven't seen again in any of the recent Olympic weightlifting competitions.

I don' t know how it is going to be, but I think, if his memoirs/autobiography is printed i english I suggest you should read it... I just finished his autobiography in greek... It totally moved me and it is infact true what he says, that he lived 4 lives in one... I strongly recommend this book, not only for the thousands of athletes in the USA, who now are training under his guidance/seminars etc.
