- Spent some time fixing up and cleaning this fresh out of storage 1985 Suzuki Quad Runner. It turned out to be in very nice shape! It needed the basics and a good once over, but didn't take a whole lot to get going again. You don't find originals like this too often, and I'm definitely going to try and keep it fairly well kept, but it will still get used. This is not a machine I would normally seek out, but it has definitely grown on me! Have since added a battery for the lights and e-start.

i got exited when u were talking about 3 wheelers
Quad runner quad sport quad racer Suzuki had it covered. I can remember going by local Suzuki dealer and see all of them lined up by the road
I grew up riding my grandad's, he had the exact model
I bought a non running1986 quad runner ten years ago. Sat in my garage until two weeks ago when I finally got around to getting it running 😁
I own one of the same - somewhat later model - but I can haul a pretty big trailer with it - mine has LO and HI Range + 5 speeds forward and reverse. The 'LIVE' rear axle can push pretty good through snow with a plow since both tires turn on the same solid rear axle.
I converted the 4-lug rear hubs to 5-lug small form Ford wheels and tires. I hate buying $$$ ATV tires so small auto tires are a lot better.
I have the same racks and headlight guard - my front light is converted to LED though.
Yes - these LOVE a choke for a long time - but they overheat very easily too unless you have them moving fast enough to create some airflow over the engine.
More power to ya for being able to pull that starter rope! I about died when I tried it! I built a bigger batter box and put a small-ish auto battery in it instead. Instant starts ONCE THE CHOKE IS ON.
I have a 230 with hilo just for deer dragon, love it
Air fooler, and the legendary beast next to it, the lt500
We have one of those Marlboro key chains for the garage!
Damm that thing is fukn mint I've never seen a better looking 250 man that is a classic right there boy would I love to have it thats something to keep around and take care of keep it running there very good quads...but I'd still wanna but your 500 badly where I live we ride quad almost the time..I have a few toys..never road a 500 yet no one has one anymore here I knew a guy had one but he moved away which sucks..
Continue the rant on the three wheeler ban plz. I mean I’m still mad about it , which has led to me hoarding my beloved atc’s 😂
Haha, yup!
Nice! Those are some good ol quads
Thanks man, I like it so far
I had one of these as a kid and it ran strong AF for nearly 15 years! The starter would always go out tho. I want one now just for old time sake.
I have one I recently had redone if interested...
@@braddowning5689 how much we talking?
I got one today for free from a buddy and I’m pretty sure all it needs is a new pull rope or a battery and a couple other things
@@tylerwenski6482 mine had a push button starter that almost never worked lol so yea, definitely get that pull rope. On cold days it needed a few sprays of starter fluid and it would run strong all day! Dont over fill the oil tho bc it'll blow out all over you, had that happen to me a few times.
@@damonmccray85 ok thanks man yea I hope it won’t be hard to get up and running I know the pull rope is like pulled out all the way and it’s locked I have not really looked at the quad I just got it yesterday and then have not really looked at it
1985 Suzuki Quadrunner 250. You've got a very nice quad with the factory tires, stickers and all original. Back then Suzuki Quads were easy to understand; you had the 125 which was the easiest to work on, no suspension though. The 185 was still easy to work on but had front suspension. The 250 was a PITA to work on, rigid rear end. The 230 Shaft was not very common, I don't know much about them but I think it had electric start and likely hard to work on. It was also a hardtail. The Quad Sport and Quad Racer came out in '85, they were from the future, mind blowing performance, easy to work on, very light weight, good suspension, just a dream!
Yeah, it's almost like the quadracers weren't even made by the same company, whole different level of engineering.
230 shaft being rare? I know at least 10 people that have 2 or more of them
@@american_patriot1776 the dealer in my town actually sold the most Quadrunners in the state of AK in ‘84. He only sold one 230 in the 80’s. I never see them listed for sale or even many photos/videos of them. Maybe a dealer in your area brought in a bunch of leftover 230’s and sold them?
@@thatalaskaguy hmm.... cool to know. Yea i don't know. Theyre all over facebook marketplace in my area b
@@thatalaskaguy and the 230s were electric start. And the 230 shafts are solid rear end. They are very easy to work on, as they only ran off of 3 wires
Great quads! When I was about 13 I got an 85 185 quad runner from my grandpa. It had 4,800 miles when I got it. I beat the hell out of that quad. Motor had a knock when I was done with it but it had almost 6,000 miles.
Wow, some serious use on that one!
No joke! Never really got much of a back story on it as he passed shortly after it was given to me. But definitely some miles for sure!
1985 Suzuki 250 is the most durable ATV ever produced, you just have to know how to work it. My dad has one. He used to float these things across small rivers, flip them over and drain them out and they'd still run
Nice! So far this one has been solid.
My dad had the 185 couldn't kill it.
Handle bar rat traps and Rubiks cube carbs....ah the 80's
Got one still runs 2nd owner. Had it for over 30 yrs
Btw everstart battery es12n94b1 will fit. Small battery but does crank it. Add some foam for the xtra space in the battery box. $45
Hi great video! I am working on a old Suzuki Quad Runner 250 and it just wont go on neutral. I was even pressing the little red handle on the left but with no luck. I also can't figure out if this thing has a clutch or not of if it needs to have the battery connected to be able to go on neutral. Anyway, I appreciate your insight.
Be very very glad that your Quad Runner has the electric start option. I sure wish that mine did. My 250cc QR (Australian delivered) only has the pull starter, & after you've just done a day of hard work out on in the field, it can be a real bitch to get my QR pull-started for the ride home, even when using the decompression lever. Also, my hat's off to you sir for being able to pull-start your QR without using that decompression lever. Respect.
Haha, yeah, i've hurt my hand trying to start this thing.
I just got this exact one for $100 I'm super pumped to try and get her running
Nice, sounds like a great deal!
@@toocheaptosmoke thanks! I don't know very much about mechanics and am still learning, your videos are very insightful and helping me learn lots of things. Appreciate it, wish me luck!
you cant kill these old beasts
I know these well. LT250EF, you'll want to put a battery in if you hang onto it. They like to nuke the charging system and ignition without a batt in the circuit! Their an unusual machine, the engine is 4 valve dual pipes out the head. It will pull a serious load of firewood I know! Front end is light, she'll lift with a heavy load but damn it'll keep on pullin!
Good info to know! I was able to scrounge up a battery that holds some charge and have been using it, luckily didn't run it much without the battery.
I just recently bought one of these as a project. You don’t happen to have a manual or know where to find one, do you? I can only find 1987+
I tow a 8-foot wide mower through tall field grass and weeds on my property and it just pulls and pulls! I have HI & LO Range, rear wheel, live axle only drive and it acting on both wheels equally, is kinda like Positraction in the rear. So far I haven't needed 4WD - but it doesn't have it anyway!
During the winter, I haul a 1/2 cord of wood either on a sled with wooden runners or a 4-wheel trailer with the same amount of wood - through the snow and up a small hill and it works just fine.
A little harder to start in the cold - but after a few cranks, it'll fire - but I have to wait a long time to turn off the choke.
When it gets a little too hot, the idle speeds up a lot - that I've gotta check out then next time I have a few days of over 65F degrees so I don't lose my fingers to frostbite.
Yeah - if you run without a battery, the charging system will go max output and fry itself and it'll put out a lot of voltage from then on, cooking the battery! Just a warning!
Man I need a favor I just bought the same quad an I need a pic of the top valve cover breather hose..I believe it's just a hose that connects to top valve cover there's a hole but I dunno if I'm missing something
finiky between cold and warm
I too own one of these, mine is a 1987 Quadrunner LTF-250 I have owned it since new I think? it has less than 1,500 miles on it. My grandchildren are now learning how to drive it. I traded in my 1982? Kawasaki Inviter 340 towards it. I think it cost $3,700 new back in 87. I found your channel today 1/20/2022 i would really like to find an older sled to have to run around home here something to tinker on I guess. I enjoy your work have fun Jeff in Maine
Cool, glad to hear!
I think I have the same quad but can’t find plastics for it without the gas tank being in the front
ive got one of these old rigs as well, but ive heard online its bad to run them without the battery, they say you can kill the stator. Should i be worried or just forget it?
Probably a good idea to run a battery, I put one in after making the vid. The electrical system certainly seems to operate weird without one.
suzuki was impressive in the 80s, i have n 85lt230ge shaft, looks mints ran mint until last wk, do u know why i was riding the other day shut er down now wont start, i jump it fine idles fine then stalls as i hit the gas? batt is dead but doesnt need one to run.... i had the same tires
Got to love Suzuki 2 pull in how meny year’s
Haha, definitely a good few.
Can anyone help me as to which fuel this takes I’ve read some they say 2 stroke. But I’m not quite sure ?
This particular machine is a 4 stroke.
I have a 4 wheeler suzuki motor but cant find out what kind it is or where to buy a wire harness
Try to find a casting number on the cylinder or crank case, then search ebay or google to cross reference it.
Hey,
I just purchased a 1987 LT250 Quadrunner. It is in great condition and only has 500 miles on it. However, it makes a squealing sound after getting warmed up. any thoughts?
Thanks
From the engine, or the drivetrain when moving?
Rudy Sanfilippo mabe a dragging brake? If so that's common of quads that age.
Picked up one of these a couple years ago same thing barn fresh. Got er home filled the tires rolled her into the shop checked it for spark nothin looked at the wiring mouse chomped fix that got spark. Opened the air box stunk like piss, Dam rodents! Pulled the carb cleaned it up swapped the bat green light pops up pull the choke hit the button starts right up. ITS ALiVE! So what do I do? I proceed to get the sawsall and the 4” grinder and start cutting the bitch apart stretch her out add a role cage, mess with the throttle and break ad a steering wheel, and now l have a off-road shiftting go kart with reverse. NICE! Fast as hell. Fun as all get out. Like your vids bud.
Dude if you saw the treatment my 1983 honda 200 m went thru & still kept going thus weekend fell 10 feet into a 4 foot deep creek upside down still running gas & oil leaking got it turned over it took a min but did clear & fire up then pulled itself & 2 grown men outta the creek
Haha, those era hondas are just something else. The last things left on earth will be cockroaches, coyotes, and old atc's...
First lol great video 👌
I just got 85 recently any chance you remember what size battery went it ?
Don't remember the size, but recently put in a much smaller 5 ah battery, still works alright.
Ive got that same quad
Where did u get the air flither for it...
Think it was just on amazon
Awesome video. You should get a battery so much better. Brighter light
Yup! Was able to score a second hand battery and she lights right off now.
I have the exact same 1...
Just got one of these today. Missing the carb, seat, chain and rear plastic. Paid $150 for it
Nice
HELP!!!! I HAVE 2 OF THESE AND I NEED TO KNOW IF ITS MIXED OR STRAIGHT GAS!!!
This one is a 4 stroke, takes straight gas.
U have the mintest 1985 Suzuki 250 I've ever seen...it's all original, low mileage, with tons of tread left on the original tires and no
cracks in the plastics...congratulations bud...how much did u get it for
Thanks man! It was part of a package deal of stuff, but it was a pretty fair price.
Hey man I was donated one of these for parts on a build Im working on. I know the headache of sourcing parts. Let me know if I can pull anything off this one for ya! Nice work!!
Appreciate the offer, so far it seems to be pretty solid!
no way ive for one of these and am having a hard time finding a new top end, id obviously pay you for it, located in canada let me know thank you
If your parting one let me know looking for the key switch
@@XxXsupertrampXxX i didnt see this🤦 what are you referring to as the top end?
@@joshuasimpson2593 all of the electronics are in a box at my dads. I will absolutely look for a key switch. Ive only used random frame parts so it should be there. Ill holler if I find it!
You want to sale those Quad how much is Suzuki quadrunner LT250EF or LT250E
Could I get mine running without the key?
I have the same exact quad but lost the key
I think it should be fairly simple to bypass it around the key switch, try to see if you can find a wiring diagram for it. Often times simply unplugging the switch may work, if not you'll have to run a jumper wire across some terminals.
Ebay has a full top end kit
0:20 Suzuki Quad Runner "too fitty". LOL. Surprised you didn't insert one of your characteristic quick captions there.
Haha, I thought about it
I'm a all around kinda guy also I seen your about thingie nice to see someone who actually works on stuff other than myself..I heard bout you on zip ties UA-cam channel so desided to check you out funny thing is you mess with quads I won't for some odd reason i just ride them and do dum mateness..and stuff I need bearings changed in my Honda 250 axel but I'm not bout try..call me stupid but I take it to someone other than me to deal with..lol🤣
Haha, yeah working on stuff that you're not motivated or want to work on it just makes it a chore... I HATE working on cheap lawn tractors...
@@toocheaptosmokehaaa yah chore's..and mowers are easy to work on I have 4 years of power teck in highschool so I know my round a mower.a and then some I've rebuilt anything from a 2hp to a 350 Chevy short block out of highschool I did half of a 305 in school that the other class gave up on...
2 fiddy
Anderson's off Telegraph Rd.
Top speed?
Maybe 40-45? Fast enough that you wish the steering and brakes were better, haha.
Is it for sale
Sorry, keeping it.
Wow Really you cut it there ! When it should have been cut before your first saying of Scuzuki ! And started with your rant on government bull crap ! Lmao ! SKOL BUD !
play with that 250r
It's been a couple years since I had it out, no where local to ride. :(
Fuel system
You want to sell that thing?
Plan on keeping it for now. :)
I have the same 1 for sale it just needs a carbrator and intake valve.
@toocheaptosmoke wanna sell that thing yet?
Sorry, plan on keeping it. :)
@@toocheaptosmoke I figured I would ask haha I would keep it it to
Awesome man. Check out my video on my 1986 Suzuki LT230 Dual Range 👍
Why would you not buy a battery.... 😂
Beer money more important than battery money.
