  • I've wanted one of these for years, and I finally found one where the price was right. Originally these came out as a Suzuki LT4WD 250cc version in the late '80's, and I've wanted one ever since. This one is the upgraded 300cc KingQuad version, with more power and 5-lug rear wheels. After a little over 30 years of pining away for one, I finally have one of my own. It even mostly works!

    Finally getting one from my dad. First quad he ever bought back in 96 absolutely the best vehicle we ever owned. So many HARD years of brutal WORK. Anyone who used these things knows how solid and useful they are. Ours tumbled end over end FAR down a mountain and it was completely fine. These aren't just your normal quad they are group of hardened horses rolled into one machine. Fantastic video sir!

    I’ll never forget the day my day brought our ‘87 250 quadrunner home. After 35 year it’s still more advanced than most machines out there. It didn’t have a cig outlet, oh well in 87 we had nothing to plug in there anyway lol.

    My first atv was a 1996 Suzuki king quad and let me tell u that thing was a BEAST!!!!! That thing would pull down the gates of hell!! With its super low diff lock. I loved the quick pull reverse lever and other controls but I hated the brakes and 5 lug rear wheels. I had the same problem with my valves they seemed to need adjustment once a year, but as a teenager I abused the hell out of it!!! And it just kept going!! Great machine I miss mine so much

    My family got 250cc Kingquad in 80's and it lasted about 15 years of absolutly brutal work. It was used in reindeer herding, we hauled logs from forest with it and we modified an old horse drawn sickle mower for it. When it finally gave it's life away we got 350cc Honda. That was not and bad machine but without range shift it just couldn't handle the same work, it lasted just one year. Now we have had 300cc KQ for 25 years. And it is still going strong. The only other machine, that is as versatile as Kingquad is a horse. But Kingquad doesn't complain if you leave it alone for few months.

    You might be correct on being the best quad. I worked as a motorcycle mechanic for a summer years ago.
    I remember when a king quad came in from a popular farm in my area for regular service. Thing had more manure on it then in my septic system.
    It also had 47,900 miles on it haha. Never seen a quad close to that mileage. Coworkers told me they really never had to do anything major to it.
    Btw awesome idea on cv boot repair!

      My friends 250 Suzuki quadrunner 4x4 has 54000kms on it. It's the exact same quad but a 250cc. He's owned it for 3 years. All that's ever been done is ball joints, bushings and oil changes. The guy he bought it from rode it every single day on the farm he said he averaged about 2.5 hrs of ride time a day roughly 65-70kms. When we pulled the carb it was mint minus a few specks. He said it had only been cleaned once because he rode it every single day and drained the float once a week of sediment.

    fun video!! Yah, I have a 2000 KQ 300 4x4...and just love the machine. When, I was a kid, I always wanted one when I first saw it at the dealer. So, when I got a chance, I pulled the trigger and bought it in 2013 with 1,078 miles. As soon as I got it, I went over it and replaced parts that needed. Put new tires, shocks and changed all fluids. Cleaned the carb, new air filter, and spark plug. It just runs GREAT!! I also did the diff-lock modification, so now I have diff-lock in HIGH, Low, and Super-Low. It's smaller, so it fits on some tight trails, but easy to move around if needed. IMHO, Suzuki designed and built a LEGEND of a quad!!

Yep,the King Quad.....true 4 wheel drive along with independent suspension was the cats meow.....also big advantage is being able to ride in 2 wheel drive most of the time.....and engage 4 wheel drive when in doubt.....we eventually sold them.....and he got more money for the inferior atv than I did......go figure.

    I parked my 2000 in the barn and bought a sportsman about a year ago. I picked it up today with the loader tractor and brought it to the garage because it was dead. Found out I left the - battery cable off when I replaced the starter a couple years ago (only thing I’ve ever replaced on it and it started like that for years) and parked the ragged Polaris. I’ve changed the oil at least twice, about as many times as I’ve changed the spark plug in 38,000 miles. That’s what it had when I dropped the 24” pine and it landed between the handle bars on the instrument cluster, anyway. I cut it off and drove it home, rigged the switch to a toggle switch and kept it going a couple more years. It doesn’t smoke or leak anything. Just works.

    I picked one of these up for $200 from my neighbor. He thought the motor was bad because it was smoking. Turned out to just be a dirty carburetor and needed a tuneup. It only smokes on startup now. I'm getting another one for parts next week so I have a new front diff so 4x4 works, and new plastics. I've taken the factory headlights out, trimmed the middle section of the cover to be just a solid rectangle and stuck an 8" lightbar in there and wired it up to the factory headlight switch. Once I get the parts quad, I'm gonna add some led pods put on the bottom side of the front rack and wire them up to the high beam switch.

    I have an early 90s (I believe) Suzuki king quad. But mine is the more unusual 280cc. And the plastics are red. Just an absolutely amazing machine. I've pulled cars on my yard with it and car trailers full of stuff on. I once pulled down a tree that got stuck in another tree when we tried to cut it down.
    Me and dad has mostly used it to pull a trailer with logs from the woods so we could cut it to firewood so it's lived mostly on low and super low range and 1-2nd gear. And an occasional winter drifting 😅
    I never use high range because it has a whine at 5th gear but otherwise it seems fine and everything works on it. The coolingfan and what not.
    Can't remember the miles but it's something like 14000 kilometers?

    Mines the 95 and it was rescued from the scrap yard totalled like it was ran off a very steep embankment rolled end over end and side over side ..no plastics , racks , lights ,handlebars, levers, guages basically an engine , frame and wheels..huge spaghetti mess of wiring everywhere..but it did have the worn out carb and vital electric components . No damage to wheels or drive terrain or frame. I had it running in 3 days !! I've been through many issues with how it runs finally after ordering a China carb I did the same thing .put all the new parts in the old carb and that seemed to work out . As long as I have a functioning choke it starts even after it sat a month in snow and minus zero Temps. The back up rope start seems almost useless when its zero out even with starting fluid it will about kill you pulling on it start die start die type thing..it has 18 gears like a semi truck and yes in low with differential locked it will pull anything if it can get the traction or break an halfshaft joint..(I did that pulling on payment ) you have the same combo as me ...bad ass grand Cherokee and king quad 300 and neither one takes any shit just gets er done ...my jeep is the awd with 318 v8 ..ide rather have the 4.0 but its cool we at 300,000 still running strong ...right on man ...need more support for both vehicles online I say.

I don't care if it has 10 times the power of the KQ Rubber band transmissions suck ! The triple range 5 speed auto clutch and locking front differential are what helps the KQ punch above it's cc class for utility work and slow to moderate trail riding and nothing beats it for creeping quietly through the woods. It's great at snow plowing too.

    question is: is there an issue with my bike that im not able to pull start or is it normal that its hard to pull? , i bought a replacement starter kit, should i repair and go back to starter motor starting, im afraid brushes might get damaged quick again because of some other problem in the bike.. i have a LT-4WDX Suzuki kingquad.

    • @LowBuckGarage
      @LowBuckGarage  Рік тому

      It sounds normal. There's a lever in front of the spark plug, that's a manual compression release. It opens up a valve just slightly, releasing the cylinder pressure. As you pull it, it automatically closes so the engine can start up.

    I have one of these for sale local to me for cheap, I am tempted, but it seems getting engine parts for these is near impossible, in particular the top end engine parts, like the cylinder. If they were cheap and available like they are for Yamaha and Hondas it would be nice.

    Only two bad issues they had was the fuel diaphragm cut off when old acts up . And lay down cylinder tends to wear out little quicker than up right cylinder. But like them Got one in the back yard . Artic cat copied them so another option

    • @LowBuckGarage
      @LowBuckGarage  2 роки тому +1

      Interesting, I'll have to watch for that. I think switching to "prime" on the fuel valve will get around the shut-off, it seemed to work when I tried that wrong carb with only one vacuum port. I just hooked up the fuel pump vacuum line, and got it running by hand choking the carb. Not the best solution, but should work until there was time to replace the diaphragm...

    Kingquad 300 and quadrunner 250 are the best 4x4 atv's ever. Downside's are crap brakes weird bolt patterns offset tire sizes and expensive parts.
    Why waste the tape. Just did cv boots on mine. If you shop around you can find all 4 front boots with grease and clamps for like $30. Pair of new front axles are $120 from niche.
