Before these easy wind systems and before throttle lockouts and clutches to stop the head from spinning at idle speed, my parents had the best winding system. It was called the "you kids put this trimmer line on this here trimmer, the instructions are over there"

I bought the yard gear max load to replace a POS head that came on my Craftsman. The new head held so much line, by the time I needed more, I forgot how I loaded it the first time! Had to go back to this video to remind myself. I've been real happy with it. No fuss.

I drill a hole in the center of my speed feed head and put a 3/8 bolt with flat washers. The head will last for years. I’m wondering about if it could be done with the Shakespeare? I like the winding better because I run the edgit pro and it’s a little hard to wind because of lack of room

I dislike twist to load heads. I got arthritis in my hands and it hurts me. I like the husky t35 head. You can buy extra line spools for it and just throw an extra spool in your pocket if you got cargo pants or leave a couple in the truck

My great uncle taught me to just extend the line manually to avoid scraping up the head. But yes, you're supposed to bump feed on grass not concrete, rock, or sand.

Joe Schwitters@ Yours is about the only sensible comment on here. My Honda bump feed has been on my UMK435 since new, 2012, and the bottom of the head is still shiny. Because I don’t bump feed it on concrete or asphalt. You’re standing on grass whilst you’re using it. It’s not as if you have to go looking for a GREEN patch. People trash their equipment then blame the manufacturer. Looking at the build up of crap on these 2 brushcutters, you can imagine the attention to detail he must take. I just roll my eyes at a lot of the UA-camrs.

I have to do all the yard work by myself and trimming is the worst for me.. I purchased a trimmer plus straight shaft attachment. It uses the areo flex spool trimmer line but my florida grass and my lack of skills are eating away at the lines. I try and edge the driveway and pull back to see the areo flex all shot to heck and I have to change them out. I get around the ditch drains and the areo flex seems to just bend the grass instead of cut. I am only mentioning this to see if you have used it before and let you know I am returning it for the max load pro bump head for thirty as you suggested instead of the eighty I spent plus the lines. I need simplicity in my life at seven in the morning it is already eighty degrees outside so having the right equipment for me is essential.

As you Yanks have different names for things, it sometimes gets a bit confusing as to what you are talking about! In the UK almost every commercial strimmers comes with what we call a bump and feed head. Bump it & it feeds line until it runs out! Don't understand why so many people have trouble loading the head anyway, it's a piece of piss!

Well we call them string trimmers.that is what they are called. Some say weed eater because of the old brand.then the head is a trimmer head.your country like all others have dif ways.but speed and ease of reloading is very important when you have tons of properties to do and especially working on hillsides all day.the oem heads slow down production.theu are easy to load but slow.especially when training new employees.
