Nexen Tire Review

- A while a go I needed 4 new tyres for my 2012 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi station wagon. For some reason the standard fit 215-55-16 tyres are expensive for brand names that I had heard of so I went for these Nexen N'Fera Au5.
This is how they have performed over the last 18 months in summer and winter.
Nexen are a Korean tire manufacturer that have been around for 70 years and are an OEM supplier to Hyundai and others.

The Nexen, it's my tire of this time and I fell in love with it. It's Nfera AU7. Now I know I will use Nexen only for my car and my wife's car for the rest of my life, and I will force my friend to put Nexen on his car too. Actually he's going to a Nexen shop with me this weekend to change his SUV tires.
For the money Nexen is the best imo. I have them currently installed on both my GXP and Grand Cherokee Overland. I paid a little more for the N'Fera series but no regrets. I have paid more for brand names before with less results. I have used Cooper, Goodyear, Michelin, etc in the past. For the money Nexen wins, no contest.
They are great tyres
Good review. Your video made me feel better about my purchase of these tires for my 2016 Challenger. No burnouts and I will rotate them every other oil change for a more even wear.
nexen will be my next tires for sure, thanks for the review

I'm getting Nexen fitted tomorrow , it will be my second set , a very good entry level tyre , mine are 235/40/18
I have seen this brand tire here in the states. Good to know you are getting good life and service out of them.
+T.O.A.G I've seen them around on UA-cam in the US and they compare well to the big name brands. Cheers!
I have had good experiences with Nexen CP672 and Maxxis HP-M3, both are the cheapest of relatively known non chinese brands. I replaced the Continental that were in my 2017 Suzuki Vitara with the Nexen, no problem.
I can make a mini review about the Nexen CP672 vs Continental Premium Contact 5
-Nexen feels a bit "mushy", like the tires having more rubber. The Conti feels "dryer". It is difficult to explain, i barely speak english, so i can´t find the right word.
-Conti have more precise guide and steering
-Nexen have more grip when braking. A lot. With 25.000km the Contis had zero grip, the ABS fired two times with easy braking. Contis never had great grip, even when new they aren´t the grippiest.
-Contis are more noisy and hard. The Nexens are better for large trips, the silence is welcome.
-In duration and mileage are in a tie. Maybe the Contis give you more gas mileage, but i can't say for sure
-The Conti seems with better quality. The Nexens have poor details, the seam is evident in the side like a indent, the Contis are perfect, no indent.
-4 Nexens are cheaper than 2 Contis
-The Nexens have a more comfortable ride
-Contis were Made in Slovakia and Nexens Made in Korea
I'm on my second set of Nexen N'fera SU1 now and i think they are the best overall tires i've had. They handle and ride great, are quiet, resistant to hydroplaning, and i'm getting one more mile per gallon than any other set of tires i've had.
I've had Dunlop d40m2 and fm901 which were both great tires, BF Goodrich, Goodyear Eagles, General gmax as03 which were very good, and toyo tires which were good.
my nexen tyres were on my 4x4 I purchased and had 65% tread. I got 3 years out of them including beach and off road. were bald when I replaced them. So id recommend them
Never heard of them. But I'll be looking out for them now. Good result.
They're outlasting the Pirellis on the other car and drive just as well. Cheers!
I can confirm they are great tires for cheaper because they don’t advertise heavily I install tires for a living I can tell you nexens are great tires that balance out real nice( given the person does it right) and they last, one of the gems of the tire world really
I. Trying them starting today
For a cheaper alternative Jonathan, the tires seem to be holding up very well, and I’m glad that you are impressed with them. 😀👍
+stuzman I've been amazed at how well they've coped and how long they are lasting. Very surprised but happy about it. Cheers Terry, have a great weekend
Nice one Jonathon, It pays to shop around. I love Rob's comment.
+wyattoneable cheers Wyatt. Haha yup, that was funny!
best video,thanks
It does not surprise me these tires are used on Korean automobiles because this brand of tire is made in Korea.
Hi, I wanna buy tyres for my crossover (255/45/20) and have three options:
Nexen nfera Supreme(N5000 Platinum) ($175),
Nankang SP-9 Cross-Sport ($115), and
Giti Sport S2 Suv ($125).
I can’t decide which one should I go with, as comfort and smooth driving is the number one priority for me.
Most of the Nexen All Season tires have poor reviews for how they work in the snow. Tire Rack carries a few of them and customer reviews state they are very bad in even light snow. That worry's me living in a snowy climate. Perhaps you could make a video of driving them in 1-inch or deeper snow.
Did you not see me driving in the snow with them? It's in the video
@@Badgertronix Hi. I watched again definitely found you driving in the snow from 2:44 to 2:50. I must have been distracted. Thanks for pointing that out. We have lots of snow in the Chicago area and I hope they work in that.
I’m from Ontario…looking at the Nexen blue 4 season …good for snow/ice and summer
The only time I've had a FWD tire last "longer" was when I replaced them at a dangerous point. Inside wear snuck up on me and I made it to 23k miles.
23k miles is impressive but it always sucks when you have to change tyres when only the edge has worn out. Cheers!
I have Nexen Original tires on my Kia Soul. I only have 26,000 miles on it and its four years old. How long should these tires last?
I just got some 275/30/20 Nexen and didn't really have a choice but not sure if should keep or get something else?
i have nexen tires on my car. Great tires.
Ps: why do you do things so fast? :-P
Good traction is important
+Ozzstar it helps. Cheers!
Oh and subbed sir!
When you measured the front tire you should have moved the depth gauge a little closer to the camera at the tread wear marker as that is what your usable tread depth actually is. Once you get to the tread depth marker your tire is pretty much shot. Good vid, pretty happy with the Hankook tires from Uncle Sam and I haven't seen anybody come anywhere near their prices.
+MostlymoparIH you are correct but the markers are only in the middle and to be legal here you need 1.6mm tread across the tyre so I always measure across a few places.
Hankooks are excellent and I can normally get good deals on them here. Maybe Uncle Sam should open a branch over here
I'll tell him next thyme I have lunch with him.
Hope Momma and Charlie are doing well.
:> )
I looked into them, when new only 6.8mm of tread, I passed.
Which website were you looking for tires on?
Hyperdrive.co.nz
Badgertronix look on EBAY im in Australia and ebay the tyres you talk of dont actually cost a great deal
I've always stayed away from low cost rubbers in fear of pregnancy!
+One Auto, that's a good idea, only so many times you can change your phone number 🤣
Dude, that's funny.
My Tundra eats tires like candy. I'm about to replace my 3rd set at 35K miles and hate the thought of it :/
+txsviking too many traffic light Grand Prix??
I had these and went to the Nitto Neo gen. The price is about the same but the performance is far superior.
+jeremy whittler thanks for the info. Cheers!
Agreed
Not a tyre we get here unfortunately
If you can get the Michelin Defenders they are to have the Number 1 tire wear rating in the world 140,000km's warranty too. Nice video Badger.
Not listed on the NZ Michelin website so I guess not. Cheers Spongie
The longest lasting tire by far for me is the Michelin - 160K and they started to dry rot but they are good tires but very expensive. Today tires are done in 7 years at most and hard as a rock so value tires have their place. I do rotate my tires every 10K because I have a milwaukee impact . LOL
+STEVE ROB REVIEWS 35k on the Pirellis on the Focus is the best I have done before these. Can't imagine getting anywhere near 160k off a set. Must be the Milwaukee difference 🤣
STEVE ROB REVIEWS true almost 1k for my fusion for the energy ones better off getting a new set of aftermarket wheels and tires for that price..
Is Nexen suitable for heavy SUV such Nissan Armada
I believe they make suitable tyres for SUVs
Badgertronix thank you for replying as I am concerned about them for such heavy vehicle
they do a range of tyres for SUVs. Make sure you get the correct load rating.
They roar lots of road noise
Ah ha. This is how YOU do??
It sure is, but not very often :)
Milllllllwaaaaaaaaukeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
haha they need to step up and give us some tools to break
Therein lies the problem.
What or who is Milllllllllwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaukeeeeeeeeeee? :-) I always here 'ginger' ;-P
Not to worry Sunshine... I think you will get something from Milwaukee before me!
Thomas EXOVCDS Your the best pure mechanic on UA-cam. It took me 4 hours and change to get an O2M out you did in 30mins. I am a Megayacht mechanic at Rybovich and was a Harrier jet mech for 5 yrs in the Marines. It's uncanny.
