    QOTD: What part of painting portraits would you like to see a more in depth video for?
    Also the tips in this video is targeted to those of you that want to create realistic looking portraits with watercolours. This isn’t the only way to paint faces with watercolours. If you want to paint in a loose, expressive style then different methods and techniques would be best for that 😊

    Oh the irony : this morning I looked at your videos because I needed those exact tips on how to draw a face but there was nothing new... and now that I've finished my painting, you publish this new amazing video ! Well, I'm glad I tried so now I know what parts I need to work on.
    Thank you so much for taking all this time to share your knowledge so we can be more satisfied with our own creations !

    I'd love even more help in the eyes, as they are the life of any living creature, animal or person. I watch loads of other watercolorists and artists in general and you give so many tips and tricks and "how to's" in your tutorials for free. Usually you have to become a patreon to get the kind of help you give in your regular videos. Now as a patreon of yours, you give even more help and lots longer videos showing step by step how to paint in watercolor, colored pencil, etc. You are so generous in your help and you obviously have a passion for helping teach others! Lucky us! It is so greatly appreciated!!! Another great video! :-D xx

    Thank you for making this video. I can rescue the massive mistake on my 4th piece. And now I know what color to use in the 5th piece for the shadows. May put in some ultramarine blue mixed with dioxide purple and a touch of panes gray. Thank you again for making this video. It helped a lot.

    I spent the day on your Patreon site yesterday---not to paint one of yours this time, but to skip through different paintings of yours to give me answers to problems I was having with my own personal painting. I still check Your UA-cam. This quick hair reference is exactly what I needed today. The sketch outline on Patreon is also totally helpful to me. You still blow my mind. You are everywhere I want to be if that makes any sense.

    Omg this was a fantastic video to me. It helped me really understand why i see artists with such a blocky mess after spending so much time layering which was really confusing me while trying to learn gouache portraits. Its because they just kinda suck. You are a fantastic gouache painter to be able t get such a smooth result with so many colors and with only one thick layer?? Wow!! I think u did it right by perfecting skill before learning color mixing perfectly. What a waste of time had u not enjoyed the rest of the process.

    I’ve been watching many videos since 2017 (retired) trying to find that “one thing” that’s missing from my life, (I’m still in discovery mode). And although I know watercolor isn’t it, your teaching style drew me in. Your so well spoken and you break it down in such a way that any skill level can understand. I try to keep it to one patreon account at a time and I’m moving you to the top of my list.

    It was really helpful..... Especially the smooth texture of the skin....i kind of have a little issue of temperature...when I apply the first layer of color, it dries up very quickly... So, do you suggest that I should do these portraits in a room with high temperature... Or if you have some solutions, please mention it..... By the way, I just love your contents, they've been very helpful for me. Big fan. 😊👋

    • @Maynke
      @Maynke 5 років тому +3

      Why? Not everything you paint has to be a masterpiece. Play around just with some abstract colours, see how they mix, how the brush feels in your hand. Most importantly: have fun. Maybe you'll discover that you have a whole other painting skill you never imagined. No one ever said artists all have to be photo realistic! And with practice, who knows - we all could be watching your video someday :)

    Question: How do you make the paper wet again, as you say at 03:10
    Wouldn't the colours reactivate and smudge all over the paper?

    • @KirstyPartridgeArt
      @KirstyPartridgeArt  6 років тому +36

      Not if the previous layer is completely dry. And when I wet the paper again I try to gently add the water without pressing to firmly on the paper, that way you won’t reactivate the paint 😊
