skintone tutorial that I found "the most accurate" no adding black, not too much colors needed. and this video also teaches beginners that if you make accidental blooms in your painting, you can always always make up to it in another layer rather than thinking that the whole painting is ruined early in the process . Much love! ❤❤
Hey guys, painting of an eye starts at 11:24, first part of the video is about mixing skin tones in watercolor. If you are only interested to see the painting process, go ahead and skip it :)
What a wonderful tutorial.... These types of tutorials actually invoke the love for art more specifically watercolor again....I wws stoic when I watched this for 20 minutes.... Mesmerized and spellbound
You are an amazing artist and teacher. I love watercolor and the few chosen colors mixed to get your washes and then add the shadows makes your painting so beautiful. Thank you so much for this lesson.
beautiful skin tones, and you model the shape of the face (eye orbit) around the eye, plus examples of other mixing effects to explain your process. excellent!
Love this video. I think it's a great example of how learning shadow placement can become easier when you approach one zoomed in subject and start with values instead of details. I would love to see you break down other features like the nose and mouth and your favorite color choices lips! Beautiful work :)
Thanks, I've made so much progress because of your videos; the encouraging words, carefree but deliberate processes, and lastly because you dared to share them with us! Many thanks Jane!
This study is gorgeous and the video is super helpful on mixing skin tones. I adore your accent, your accent and calmness make it so pleasurable to listen to you. Thank you for creating videos!!
Jani, this is probably my life-changing video! I used to add shadows to my skin tones by using (recklessly) pure brown or pure blue or mixing alizarin crimson with blue, which of course ended up in a bruised effect. But hopefully now there will be no more bruised portraits! :)
Thank you very much Jane. I use very similar, if not all the same products. I agree Arches is the best paper. I buy in bulk. I love having the ability to make any size painting I want. My friends all are wanting panel paintings, so the big (20" x 33") sheets make this work well. Dan Smith is my "go to" paint. I am slowly moving into pans as I am finding I use too much paint with tube. Halfway through I thought you were in trouble making the iris too dark. Then you lifted and saved the day. In the end, WOW. Just, WWOOWW!! The illusion of "real" is what I am after and, I, apparently will be following you around for a bit. Thank you very much.
Great that you can buy Arches in bulk, its a little more complicated for me here in Slovakia but it's easy to get Fabriano Artistico here (archs). I am currently preferring Canson Moulin du Roy but it's just that my technique needs the additional help with lifting and Arches doesnt really allow that. Thanks so much for appreciating the painting and the video!
Jane, have you tried bee paper? It's my first 100 percent cotton paper besides arches. I'm still feeling it out but think I like it more then arches even.
Looks awesome, your daughter has lovely eyes. I have already taken a photo of my nephew, who has blue/green eyes. You have inspired me to have a go. Thank you for help and guidance in mixing skin colours, It gives me more confidence. I look forward to watching your posts cheers from Australia
Wow! Lovely eye painting, very detailed and lifelike. You're very skillful. Thanks for sharing how to mix skintones and what colors to add for shadows - all very useful tips.
Hey guys, I created a separate video to explain the process of painting a WATERCOLOR PORTRAIT, that refers back to this video for skin tones mixing. You can check it out here - ua-cam.com/video/BQfyQVC4lu0/v-deo.html. List of colors that I used - Raw sienna, Alizarin crimson, Vandyke brown, Neutral tint, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine + optional skin tone base is called Napples yellow reddish (mine is by Schmincke Horadam)
This was sooo great thank you so much! It was super helpful and I liked that you explained the colours and what to mix, and loved that you swatched the colours and mixes too so that we could see what you did on the palette and then what it looked like on the paper. I will be ordering some of that crimson 😀 It also really helped me to see all of the layers that you did too. Such an excellent video ❤️🤍
Hi Jane!! I've not painted in several weeks, but this made me want to. This will definitely help with my skin tones for sure. Mine tend to be way too red and look like a Oompa Loompa. That's ok if that's what you're going for, however that's not what I usually am going for, ahaha. Thanks again, as always!!!
Love this, especially as I’m a beginner. I thought I’d attempt a 100 eye challenge to try and improve and would love to draw/paint an eye of someone wearing glasses. Is there any possibility of a video on that, please starting with the drawing first please? X
Hello there, and yes I am! I am so glad you like the content, I am very fond of my channel - too bad it is not my full-time job and only a hobby, so that I can really create videos only when my life isn't falling apart, and this year has been a battlefield :)
@@sirmovielover sadly I did not for a couple of months, but working on it right now. There is still some older content, but I can imagine doing one long Patreon video per month on a regular basis.
Hello there, sorry for a late reply - I use different types, but most often a 300 gsm cold-pressed cotton paper, mostly by Arches or Fabriano. For this painting it was the Fabriano I believe..
I did a couple of them in my past videos, but since portraits are what I do most of the time, I am sure I can do more studies in the future videos as well.
