Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics. We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. 2:28 Marty looks genuinely on the verge of tears. He's a true man. Respect.
"An SR sounds like a trying to through a didgeridoo" Fucking killed me
ITU Airsoft you for got a
I can think of no better way of wasting mobile data than binge-watching Mighty Car Mods
same here
is it a waste though?
+Callum Wetten In my mother's point of view any mobile data usage is a waste of mobile data.
Steal a mates WiFi like I do .
One hopes a governmental agencie of some form is enabling this lavish lifestyle....?
Over twelve years later and I think this is still my favorite MCM episode of all time.
It's got everything; a story with all parts, a satisfying ending, friendship, and an RS Turbo Liberty wagon.
I came here expecting Sean Connery teaching me how to resell my car.
Bahahahaha smartarse
Heh..haha...HAHAHAHAHAHAAH
Every time I watch one of these videos, I always think of two things. 1) That red brick garage is beautiful. 2) I wish we had more little simple town cars like this in my area of the States.
Agreed
Whos back here in 2020
Because I bought a first gen legacy, but I'm 10 years late to the first gen party :(
@@layzorbeeemz7317 neeeding ideas on how to start a project car especially for this guide even its not a subaru
this is my favorite intro from all seasons
wait a second
I don’t get it
@Wrulol RS Libertys originally were spec'd with Iridium/Platinum spark plugs. The stock ignition system isn't powerful enough to run regular copper plugs, however the coil packs were upgraded to my00 WRX items which work much better so standard plugs work fine in this setup. The standard plugs come gapped at 1.1mm, they need to be gapped down to 0.8 for the turbo engine.
There's one important thing he forgot to mention about the VF23 STi turbo. It's red. Red turbos go faster: it's the law...
11 years on and I'm now using this to help re shell my Civic Aerodeck after I crashed it. Thanks for all the help and great content through the years
Maaaan, I miss driveway days, sucks balls what happened but amazing to see how far you blokes have come.
ive watch this video a couple hundred times and every time i love it ! this is the exact video that got me into modding cars and subaru wagons especially the 90's legacy's! hopefully one day ill get to own such a great car like yours marty.
Wow. I recently discovered this channel, it is beautiful man, I am learning lots of things
... and every night before bed, Moog whispers sweet nothings to his unicorn.
#martycarmoogz
STAG162 The things he whispers are not sweet, and they are definitely not nothings.
watching these old MCM films really sparks an automotive curiosity in me
@DarkSniperNS it's got a chipped ECU which is already suited to more boost but the old jecs ecu's in these cars are pretty tolerant of the kind of mods we've done. No doubt a retune would probably yield more power and it's definitely on the cards!
I've been watching Marty go bald for 6 years now.. and he still has a shit load of hair.
Furness Prime Hahaha! Brilliant!
Don't know why but this is one of my favourite videos I can watch again and again
One of my favourite episodes. Could watch forever
The car scene is Australia seems so brotherly and inclusive. The scene in the UK is pretty terrible in comparison :(
Yep. UK car scene is toxic af, full of shit slingers and just general cunty-ness
@hflee3 The shell probably could have been saved with enough effort and time, but seeing as it's not a classic car, not particularly rare (shell exactly the same as a base model) it's much easier to replace the shell around the good driveline, interior and suspension.
Funny! Nowadays you can't find any of these.. in Minnesota USA they're all rusted.. automatic, basic H4 with no turbo or shitty trims.
I really really want a legacy of these years with a sunroof! Which is ultra rare here
They're getting pretty hard to find in Aus now Marty !
This show is fucking amazing. Even going this far back, the quality and love they put into their channel is super evident!
I've been watching occasionally for the past 10 months since my Cressida was totalled. Reshelling with a new engine, but life has gotten in the way and it's taking a while. I feel empty without it.
I'm with ya Moog! Gotta love the Nissans. I have a 94 Nissan NX
You fuckin wish mate!
I drive an sti you wish you probably drive a smart car
an sti for the person with sti's.... How awkward
JRobCards Keep telling yourself that when a stock STI busts your ass at a stoplight. My Bora is faster than your car. A twin-charged (you probably don't know what that means; it has a turbo from the 1.8T and an aftermarket belt-driven supercharger both on the same engine) VR6 making over 500-ish bhp through all four, yes, four wheels. So you could say my car is a 2001 VW Bora VR6TC 4Motion. Oh, it also has every option from the factory, except for the auto gearbox of course. Because autos are for losers.
No you don't ^
An SR sound like a beep beep beep didgeridoo, laughed so hard.
I LITERALLY just got done doing this today. Had a 95 Divic DX hatch and someone hit me so I bought a 92 Civic Si hatch shell and had to swap EVERYTHING over from the inside out. I must say when I saw the video i didn't think it would be that involved…I spent 2 and a half weeks doing the motor swap, suspension, interior, wheels etc. Props to you guys for remembering to record this process cause i was going to do the same thing but just kept forgetting to press record >
I think it's one of my favorite MCM video
I always thought it was Mitsubishi against Subaru.
It's the impreza vs. evo
Mitchell Mortenson impreza vs lancer* or sti vs evo
***** sorry, i meant sti, its the whole rally rivalry
+Mitchell Mortenson Legacy vs galant
+SuperWesty177 Galant vr4
Its taken me ages to clock that MWM 108 is a personal plate shared across all martys subarus
Vinnie Cross Martin William mulholland 180
And the first Micra. And the Blue Turd.
This is also a good time to detail both the engine and engine compartment so it's show ready when done. Maybe even sling some paint.
I got an Exedy clutch kit for my Lancer GSR, and after replacing the OEM spec one, the pedal wouldnt disengage the clutch at full depression, so the gearbox came out and I shimmed the pivot ball with a 2mm washer. Now the pedal disengages basically on the floor and has 2 or 3 inches of flop in the pedal (you can push it down and it will just sit there, and pop back out when you nudge it)
Ideas?
I think marty was crying when he went for the last drive. 2:28
if you bring a didgeridoo to an awkward sound contest, you clearly have no restraint or boundaries
Had this in my watch later risk for 6 years. Just got round to it.
Another thing to mention is there are thousands of forums (especially on facebook) that are model specific to a certain car or group of cars. AKA wagon mafia, subaru life, rally car clubs, (For me it's caprice / roadmaster / B body) and such so whatever bits you don't use that are good can be sold and put cash in your pocket! I have parted a few cars that more than paid for themselves just selling one or two parts and the rest is then free parts and profit that can be used to make your car maaad or pay for gas.
My grandma had one of those
I bet she chopped you like tomatoes that she chopped for your soup :)
PBJPRODUCTIONSTUDIOS spittin' that real.
Almost a year ago wow
I live within walking distance of Hobart.... that is Hobart, Indiana in the United States :P
Rip, they're in Sydney.
+KaTsuDON™ you dont understand sarcasm.
+Reach Thats cause he has a prequel profile pic
I too live in Indiana in the USA.
+outskirtscustoms me too. South bend Indiana to be exact.
Hello from AJ RS. From the old RS liberty club days. This made me miss my RS wags so much. I pick up a new STI next week. But it wont have the character of the mighty RS. Well done guys!
Still one of my favourite episodes
nice job blokes way to sort it out
whos fz6 is that? that was my first motorcycle :D
danthemanzizle Oh thats mine bro sick az
Karne .Walker Nice, it cameos in a lot of videos haha.
danthemanzizle oh sorry man I was just having a laugh, just a fan bro
Karne .Walker lol all good.
Hmm, the plate says MWM-83. Considering SuperGramps' (registered in Marty's name: I'm guessing) plate is MWM-108 (as well as a number of his other project cars), I'm gonna say that bike belongs to Marty.
20:21 those black and gold sunnies were the rage back in the day
I'm doing this with my totaled ae86. Switching to a shell. As in no wheels, suspension, etc. good info.
Glad Marty has a miata now
***** not just a dream a nightmare...
Aiden Finch I had a dream one time where my parents bought me a miata. I would definitely classify it as a nightmare.
I got a car for free and it was fun I learned its limits and I got a shell for$ 500 usd
Goddamn the work these guys do make my garage work on my GTI installing after market parts like intake and exhaust seem like absolute child's play
14:25 LOL! I love when you guys add in little things like this.
Subarus looked good until 2008, when the new Impreza and Outback came out.
Wow 6 years ago, still remember watching this when it first came out.
damn ur old
Did you have to replace the or change the ecu when you put the new turbo in?
Guys, what is the name of that sticker with the gears printed on it during 1:27 at the beginning? Right next to the gear selector.
dude awsome show u deserve a spot on speed channel
@7:31 background is a subaru SVX! so rare, PITA to maintenance though.
I like how the black one has a water intercooler, you can do some fun things with those.
I love the pearl SVX in the background
love your channel and everything you do. so glad i found it
What I don't get is how did he swap from a TD05 with 90degree inlet to a straight inlet turbo? Wouldn't putting in a straight inlet + 90 silicone bend hit the manifold ?
Nice JOB..
I tride to do the same with Honda Legend but got only to the striping stage ha..there is no good donor here in my area..
What suspension do you use on the Black Legacy Wagon?
Much respect for the classic OEM water to air intercooler
Anyone know the song starting at 17:40? I hear it all the time I think it's like a stock song but I don't know what it's called.
btw, sweet videos guys. I started watching them yesterday, you guys are very entertaining
idk about u guys... but i FREAKING love the sound of that first gen legacy @ 15:40
Is there any Chance to et the Music thats start playing at 18:30 ?
man why are these guys so awesome
Are these stock headers? All I can see is that Marty put on an axleback or maybe a catback exhaust on. I like the way the exhaust sounds on the wagon than on most subaru's with UEL's. Hoping to get the same growl out of mine.
hola no tendran algun tipo de video demotores 22r de toyota 80 de pick up para modificar o algo para hacerla mas rapida gracias
Whats the song at 3:42? I can't seem to find it as I sift through Moog's song lists
I'm sure most people won't care about this comment, but I personally own a '97 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with about 291 thousand miles on the engine. Only problem I've had is a recent crack in the radiator, which was fixed with a bit of JB Weld.
The only thing I don't like about my car is 1. how low the ride is, and 2. how cramped it is on the inside. I complain about these things NOT because I like big cars, but because I am a 6' 4" guy, so its a little hard to get in and out of the car.
what's the vaccum line on the new turbo for?
you go to devonport not luanceston lol haha, awesome video though guys!!!!
Love the svx in the background!!!
Actually saw this episode 10 years ago when it came out. I'm in the same situation with my own car now. Sad but has to be done.
does anybody know what brand of exhaust that is? it has such a deep throaty sound
I basically did this a few years back after I totaled my first 94 Accord I went out and got another one and over time swapped everything but the motor and trans (I sold them off) and scrapped the old body, a good day is all you need to do the interior swap, suspension and wheels another, I didn't waste time labeling nuts and bolts just put the 2 cars face 2 face and swapped one panel at a time, the only "hard" part is the motor swap.
I love how you work.i would lucky to work with you.
Greetings from Czech Republic. Love your shows. Would love to move to AUS, so mby see u guys one day ;)
i actually have watched all these episodes so many times
Really not into these old wagons, but to each his own. Thanks for another entertaining episode!
@Branden Scholl there should be a little pin you have to remove before you can take the axle nut off. Then have someone step on the brakes so the rotor doesn't spin and you take the nut off
I've watched this video several times. MCM is MAAAAADDD.
By watching Mighty Car Mods I have become a very big fan of the Subaru Legacy. Unfortunately here in the UK 1st generation Legacies are rather rare and often are not in the best condition. Despite these factors though, I will own one one day. So for this I have Marty to thank for introducing me to a car with as much history and potential as my hero car, the Nissan 180SX.
Any know what the song they play when Marty and the others are at the track, are? Can't seem to find it anywhere, and it seem to be a track they use quite often.
Where would you recommend looking to get a shell for a Toyota Corolla SX AE92?
Mine has similar issues to your subaru and then some. Money is kind of an issue but at the least I want to know how much I would be looking at for a decent shell. Any help would be much appreciated.
where did you get the novelty boeing stickers for your toolbox? i want all of them
@awgdawg16 the first one was an SVX, the second was a Legacy sedan (or Liberty as they call them in Australia), both were imported into the US
l love the way Marty is wearing a mitsubishi top when hes waving bye to the subaru
I've checked moog's itunes store but I can't seem to find it, can someone please tell me what song starts playing at 18:30
Can anyone give me an insight into what the insult was at 13:34 towards SRs?
Great video guys! Marty, big kudos for taking on the task of removing the engine by yourself. I've done a few engine swaps over the last few years but wouldn't like to chance it by myself. Fair play and a nice car.
Have you got rid of it since getting the MX5?
What song were they using at the end in the race
"That is the most least fun thing to do..." Marty is so cute.
Wouldn't a remap be in order when changing turbo? Or was it just an equal replacement only better spool?
What is the name of the song / band playing at 18:55??? Anyone?
I like the cops making a cameo in the background of the final scene. Was that a taxi they had pulled up?
the bond between a subaru and driver exceeds anything else
im with you all the way moog! as a fellow silvia owner, NISSAN for life!
Always sad to see an old friend go. I was crushed when my Mercedes 190E was T-boned. I loved that car something fierce, and it returned the favor by keeping me safe. I was so, so devastated when I got hit. :( Poor Marty.
poor marty looked so sad at beggining. u needa hug
