- In this video I’m going to share with you how I created these beautiful watercolor lilacs! There is a lot of prep work that I’ll talk you though as I don’t normally paint flowers with these tiny petals. We’ll also talk through supplies, how to achieve a realistic but soft look and dive into some more advanced techniques. I’m so excited to share these watercolor techniques with you as we paint these watercolor lilacs together

One side of my property has a fifty feet hedge of Lilac’s I planted them 40 years ago
Hahaha, okay I really need to prioritize this, don't I?! Maybe I can find a smaller variety that will work better for our yard...
You or very good AT your art work is BEAUTIFUL .AN YOU or SO RELAXIING.IAM 77 an have painted ❤all my life. So keep thinking positive ❤
I’m so glad you enjoyed this tutorial, Linda! ❤️ thank you for the kind words
Thank you for saying “this is the piece that normally doesn’t get shown: the piles of papers beforehand “, etc. The research and all that goes with it is what I have wondered about. It is definitely the missing puzzle piece I would like to hear more of. The “why” is what is needed to make me understand how we got to “point A”. Really many more “points” than what are normally shown. Thank you!
Oh I’m so glad it was helpful/encouraging! I’m sure there are artists who don’t need to problem solve as much beforehand but I’m definitely not that talented, haha
Beautiful painting Katrina!!! It was so much fun to watch you're process of practice paintings before jumping into the "final" painting. I am so glad you are enjoying the watercolor paints!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you, I AM really enjoying the new-to-me paints! A little overwhelming (if I’m honest) but exciting!
Здравствуйте, Вы столь же милы, сколько и профессиональны. С удовольствием подписываюсь на Ваш канал. Привет из Сибири 🙂
Thank you for watching! Hope you enjoyed it ❤️
Have only just found you! I'm a self taught artist and loved your rose tutorial. Two questions, I understand you started painting wet in wet but do you reset your paper as you go in or do you continue with wet in dry? Also wondered if there was some reason why the rose was desaturated? Thank you for your inspiration all work.
I started wet to wet but didn’t wet the paper again unless I told you that I did. I mostly paint wet on dry ❤️
Not sure what you mean by the rose being desaturated? I have sick kiddos right now so I might just be too slow this morning from lack of sleep! Hah
This is sublime, Katrina. Fabulous to watch you carefully walk us through your process. 💜
Oh, thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful 💕 it means a lot to me that you took the time to leave a comment and encourage me!
Thank you very much I tried it and I loved the result! I love your watercolor paintings! 💜
Oh yay!! I’m so excited that you enjoyed the process and had success-it’s addicting, hah
The timing of the power drill was perfect. It sounded like superman kind of swooping in. Like your courage building to do the painting you were talking about.😂❤
Hahaha, sometimes living in a house full of men (grown and little) brings some loud and untimely noises, hahah
I love the way you pronounce lilac. It’s so different to my English accent. I am so glad I found your tutorials, you are such a great teacher. Thank you.
Yes, my midwestern roots really came out with the strong “A” here, haha
So glad you enjoyed the tutorial! And thank you for the kind feedback ❤️
Thank you, this video was very helpful - maybe I won't give up the watercolors after all. 😶
Don’t give up!! It’s tricky, no doubt! But you improve quickly once you get going-I’m around if you ever have questions!
Lilacs make the most gorgeous half shadow places to sit under on a hot summer day. So I recommend to search a place for it, where you can place a desk chair or something like that under it .
Oh that is brilliant! I think I have just the place for it…
I love painting Lilacs I find them easy just sent my Sister in Texas a Lilac birthday card I hand painted she loved it
Oh that is so kind! I really admire that you are good at making and sending cards-that is not something that I'm very good at but I really wish I was
Beautiful great job
Nothing like Lilacs my favorite I even have a white one
Do you have a pink variety that you like? I'm thinking about getting both a purple AND a pink bush
I love the technique to show individual flowers. I tried painting lilacs before but could never figure out how to put them in. You solved it for me. Thanks for the video.
Yes!! I have struggled with the same thing but loved painting in the negative to bring it to life! Such a fun watercolor technique-I’m so glad you found it helpful 🥰🥰🥰
Lilacs are a great favorite, along with the purple bearded iris. Both are spring blooms, and both smell heavenly. I would love a realistic tutorial on both when you get a chance. I'm a fan of botanical painting. Thank you for allowing this request.💐
Great ideas! Thank you for the feedback and requests ❤️ the irises are especially tempting right now!

😊
I use my triangle brush
Oh, I don't have a triangle brush! I'll have to find one and try it
Amazingly beautiful 😍
Oh, I’m so glad you like it!!
How do you keep your palette clean?
I wash it off between tutorials so that the process and paint mixes/“concoctions” are clear ☺️ usually with a stiff brush, water and rag. Sometimes with a baby wipe (not recommended but the truth, haha!)
This is just beautiful thank u!
Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
good 👏👍✨
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the feedback
