As newbie to water colour and have purchased Billysbooks which I love, this tutorial has brought it all to life and is giving me more confidence to try some. Thankyou forposting thistutorial !,
I find it so hard to control, watercolor or to let it control and just manipulate. I kind of stay away, but your teaching is showing me how so thank you.
Absolutely perfect tutorial. Ms Showell's skill and patience with the media is very commendable. Her use of these classic techniques is much appreciated, which shows in the final creation. I would love to see one of her finished creations (not made for a study), I’m sure the background would also be lovely. Thank you, Billy, for share your talent to the world. 🥰xo

New subscriber here. Are you using the term "glazing" to mean applying clear water to existing paint? Excellent video! Lots to learn, here. I love the detail you give in your teaching.
Votre méthode de faire des beaux tableaux comme ça me plaît beaucoup es ce que me donner quelques informations de suivre votre chemin. Merci et je suis fière de vous connaître
Beautiful work & a nice tutorial. I have to say though- no disrespect as far as the fashion of it, but that expensive looking, pale off-white, probably fairly absorbent jacket is probably the LAST thing I’d want to be wearing while I paint. 😆 I know that with watercolor you have relatively good control & it’s rare to get covered in paint (it’s not like doing some kind of Jackson Pollock splatter art or working on a huge acrylic piece or something)… But all it would take is one little splish-splash, one little drop (I know that sometimes if I make a quick swipey brushstroke, with some pigments in particular, it’ll send little droplets further afield than I would expect) & unless you’d notice it immediately & stop everything to clean it, it would probably have vibrant, colorful stains that will never come out. Haha.
I do love your exquisite style. I wish though that the camera would stay on your painting and not go back and forth between the picking up of paint or water and then blotting onto the paper towel. It distracts from your work. Great job of explaining your layers and why you are doing what you are doing.
I suspect you are a much more experienced painter than I am. I was just thinking as I watched this, how much I appreciated that the camera went back n forth so I could see what she does with her brush between washes. Once I’m more confident, I will feel the same. But for now, I’m grateful 😊
Oh for goodness sake, get can you hear yourself's , do as you want to do, it her choice if she wants to use the roll as it is. For me i would like the image that is being painted, I'm using a different image so i'm finding it difficult to follow the lesson, so i'm doing my own thing because i want to see it through. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞, it's all a process & thank you for sharing.
Yes that’s good to use rags.. but if you are filming paper roll presents better and I also find paper roll is more absorbent when dabbing brush. This is my personal take on using paper roll.
Yes, it would have worked well to use a sheet of paper or two, folded up, instead of an entire roll. I'm just too frugal to use an entire roll like that!
She isn't using the entire roll in one go! A lot of artists (especially watercolor) opt to use the roll very much like a rag. You can keep turning it before ever having to remove a single sheet. Once you've used the equivalent of a single sheet - you remove it. Then you keep using the same roll for many more paintings. 🙈
Lovely flower and your technique in actual painting, the different layers are very helpful. Too much talking can be annoying and interrupts the process. Perhaps you might consider less as actual colors and how you mix them is valuable but amount of time spent seeing you mix and talking, talking, oh well.
She is very knowledgeable about pigment use and uses right pigments for a reason and she gives right advice..but well if it’s not valuable for you,we the rest will appreciate it then 😉
Instead of using up all that paper toweling (trees), you might like using a clean, large sponge or what we call a "face cloth" but I think you all may call a "face towel", or a cloth kitchen towel. All of which can be washed clean and recycled, saving a ton of paper and money over the years. 😊🍃😊 PS I have a couple of your books and totally love your work. I hope you will start a channel on UA-cam and take us through color mixing, brushes, and wc techniques with tips along the way. 💐
I think her voice is so relaxing and beautiful. I listen to her videos to relax at night.
Wonderful how good you can explain ! Very clear thank you

Impressive💞
❤stunning!!!
Beautiful, but how do you paint in a white outfit without getting it covered in paint?
🤣 It's a skill Billy has acquired over many years!
Botanical watercolor usually use small brush & small amount of water. So the paint not splatter & stained the clothes.
What weight of paper and finish are you using…hot press, cold press, 140 lb. Or 300 lb.?…thank you!
What brush you used . Thks

its a very old and cheap jacket I still have it its covered in patches from the odd paint spill 🤣

I don’t why I am angry at her…so brilliant painter.

As much as I enjoyed tutorial using that whole paper roll spoiled for me completely. What happened to good old rags.
Yes that’s good to use rags.. but if you are filming paper roll presents better and I also find paper roll is more absorbent when dabbing brush. This is my personal take on using paper roll.

That's so wasteful! We only have one planet. For me, it was like nails on a chalkboard
Your work is beautiful, regardless of the disregard of waste
