It’s actually quite nice being in Northampton at the moment (actually, no it isn’t, I take that back, it’s Northampton), that being said, there’s a real buzz around the town and the county about just how decent Saints are at the moment. We don’t have a nice looking town centre like bath or Gloucester or even London, it’s a very working class, run down town that could really do with something like a premiership win. My mum grew up in a really run down area of town (Semilong) and my dad grew up just outside town in a proper rugby village called Bugbrooke, and both of them love the Saints and it rubbed off on me. Basically it’s a club whose supporters consist of people from all backgrounds and there would be nothing better to unite the town (and the county) than the town’s biggest sports team being crowned the best in England. Either way it always annoys me hearing people call rugby a “posh sport”- because in Northampton it doesn’t have a class, it just has a solid base of support from people from all different backgrounds and I hope it carries on that way, long after whatever happens over the next month.
@@SquidgeRugby haha yeah, not getting my hopes up though, we certainly didn’t look very comfortable on Saturday (I’m aware it was a bit of a B team) but hopefully a couple of weeks off should get them back on form for Sarries. Fantastic video as always btw.
Working in a sports shop in Northampton town centre was a strange experience. We had plenty of people buying Saints, England and Lions shirts, but I still had to hear reverse snobbery from football fans about how all the rugby players and fans look down their noses at them. We sold about 30 footballs to every rugby ball and virtually every rugby fan and player I've ever known has supported a football club. You're winning! Who keeps on perpetuating these stereotypes?
@@RatzaChewy Yeah I remember once being at sixfields in the north stand when a young lad about 10 or so walks past wearing a saints shirt and everyone around me start swearing, jeering and flicking v signs at him. And I'm thinking what the hell is wrong with you people?
I picked the right year to move back home to Northampton. The thing that's so encouraging as a supporter is that we looked so far off the pace in pre-season and the Prem Cup. But looking back, Saints were still playing exactly the same systems they used to win 90-0 against Glos. Same kicking, same forward pods, same supporting lines, same everything. Just needed time to become more accurate. And now we seemingly have capabile cover in every position, including Furbank finally living up to his potential at 10, I'm confident we can beat anyone if our passes stick.
So pleased for Courtney Lawes. Well deserved Saints. Have noticed two things after watching a s*** ton of squidge videos... 1. Squidge knows rugby. Great video. 2. You make a Squarespace advert worth watching. Incredible.
Been looking forward to something like this. What Vesty and Dowson have built is a special team. It's not often you can see a team losing the likes of Lawes and Ludlam, amongst others, and still fear playing against them.
Please pump this comment up!!! Melbournes Rebels please? Itll be our last season most likely. It would be an honour if you could analyse how we went from constant cellar dwellars to finals in our last season :) great video as always big thanks to you guys It wouldnt be the moat amazing story we blow all our money on Toupo and ex Reds players but i know your fan base would eagerly watch any of your content. They would watch you analyse paint drying! I know i would. Again love.your stuff and keep up the good work.
The kick at 8:06 in field is the same as sleighthome tried for Mitchell in the final, only it worked as planned! Of course in the final it still worked, just wonkier
Stade Français are currently sitting second in the Top14 and were top for many weeks - yet still have the least amount of tries scored in the whole league… how does that work?!
They're good Saints, and very entertaining to watch, but they're not perfect. What evidence do I have for that you might ask? 52 - 21 33 - 27 62 - 8 If there's Bears around, lately at least, that's meant big trouble for Saints. Would have been one hell of a semi-final for the neutrals had Bristol made 4th place this year. The sort of game you'd expect to see 100+ points!
In fairness, I believe in all of those games Saints were not at full-strength. Ashton Gate in particular was a very weak Saints Team. (Rookie 4th-choice SH on his debut etc). But we are cursed when we go away to Brizzle.
@k1ngcab00se neither was Bristol though. I mean sure they don't quite have the same international commitments to keep up with, but they were still missing some key names.
And that's from a Wales supporter! If Squidge supported England, Furbank would be getting more love from him than Warburton, AWJ and Jaz Joyce combined.
No actually, saints had more wins which means they finished first and bath finished second even though they had the same points, don’t comment if you don’t understand how the premiership works
@@andrasszabo1570 no it’s not, cause bath are not joint top, their second, because the prem is decided by wins if 2 teams have the same points, if they finished in 4th and 5th respectively they wouldn’t be “joint playing in the play offs” would they

pop round to Alan Moore's house and see if he can place a hex on the other teams

Absolutely superb. Thanks from a 71 year old old school second rower 😉🏉
Don’t know if you’ll agree but I think Coles has had a cracking season, always involved wherever on the pitch, underrated player for sure.
Couldn’t agree more

"George Furbank is actually an NCO from the Somme" is one of my favorite Squidge bits.
“The face in a thousand lockets” 🤣
I love these club focuses, especially for one playing such fun rugby as Saints. Can’t wait to see who next gets the deep dive (let it be Munster 🙏)
Can we please have a video on bath! (Joint top of the table on points)
Slightly less interesting as that’s been recruitment. Smith, Spencer, Lawrence, Barbeary etc all bought rather than developed.
Clicked on the notification harder than Sarries gave up a home semi this year
I loved this thank you Robbie and Will! Northampton are my second team. Love the way they play and really hope that they win!
Can't really poke around as I've watched them all but have some algorithm comment juice anyway, nom nom nom.
Can you do a “So how did Glasgow Warriors win the URC?” video please?
Thoughtful and insightful as always, Squidge.

That was bloody good.
I always love pausing to read the silly little jokes, and that was even harder with your handwriting (fully worth it though!) - brilliant video
Does Finn Smith start at 10 for England this summer?
Unlikely but a video on Sale Saracens from last weekend would be nice. That was fun
Stade Français are currently sitting second in the Top14 and were top for many weeks - yet still have the least amount of tries scored in the whole league… how does that work?!
Huge fan. Can you please, PLEASE, do a “So how did Glasgow lift the URC?” Video ???
Good vid!
Btw have you watched Dan Biggars opinion on Smith vs Smith? What’s ur opinion on Biggar as an analyst/pundit
When is the italy at six nations video coming 👉🏻👈🏻?
Yeah, he promised a video about how great Italy are!
Any chance for a video on the retiring Simon Zebo?
Here after they won the premiership❤
Plz do a video on what Joe Schmidt might bring to The Wallabies
If anyone from Welsh team is watching this. Take notes. When Pivac left I wanted Vesty to coach Wales 😢
The ending made me choke on my drink.
Please do a video on bath
Fin Smith.
‘Nuff said.

I swear this channel is slowly moving into a thinly veiled cult celebrating George Furbank's moustache
And that's from a Wales supporter! If Squidge supported England, Furbank would be getting more love from him than Warburton, AWJ and Jaz Joyce combined.
George Furbank is like my dream English player manifested into a real guy, just a hero all round. He can never shave it off again.
In my mind he wears a little moustache hairnet to bed like Melchitt in Blackadder 4
7:21 "An AI wrote this, not me.."
While they have been brilliant this season no one will remember it if they don’t win league
I take umbridge with the number of clips of Santi Carreras getting bumped by a Northampton player for a try! Leave my boy alone lol
There's also a clip of him scoring in fairness!
@@SquidgeRugbyHe'd been a thorn in our side for far too long frankly.
