At the heart of the world's best attack, sits an unsung catalyst who just might be redefining the 9 position for non-Dupont mortals. So, following his exceptional hattrick against Leicester Tigers at the weekend, how good is Jamison Gibson-Park, and just how important is he for Leinster & Ireland?

The absolute irony of opening this video with "Squarespace, the Antoine Dupont of websites". Never change Squidge
The D4 coke dealers joke was sublime hahaha
It was a fairly ignorant comment.
Ok Karen x
I found it quite funny given what the D4 rugby cokeheads are like
Unreal hahaha
Fiachra's all over D4 gonna be out of a job come the end of May
My old man said this weekend "that 9 from Leinster is pretty good" I have never heard him say anything positive about a player unless they were South African so I take that as pretty high praise from the grump.
Damn, first time seeing JGP with a full head of hair. What a man.
The more hair he loses the better he becomes simple as that
@@eamonlyons8069 He doesn't lose hair, it just gradually migrates down towards his chin.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂@@a7uiop
Great to see JGP getting the credit he deserves 👏🏼
It's good to see a video like this spotlighting a player, hasn't been one of these in a while that I can remember and they're one of the things that first made me love the channel.
Thank you! Wanted to get back to the roots a bit, the Sexton tribute post-RWC aside, it's been a while!
JDVF would be a good one. Or Tagdh Beirne. Both are also instrumental to irelands success but a bit unsung. I thought JDVF had some good moments this 6 nations, his clear out after Ringrose"s 60 metre run was incredible
@@canadiancontent352doubt we'd catch squidge dead making back to back videos about irish players 😂😂
The Connor Murray tribute was the first Squidge video I had ever watched. Feel like everything's come full circle.
Watching this, kudos to his teammates too for knowing who tf is supposed to catch the ball bc _damn_ does he cut it close. Fantastic speed and awareness!
What's mad is how well Leinster/Ireland transform their players. Yes granted many of them are obviously naturally talented but they go to the next level after playing a few years even the imported players such as Lowe and Gibson-Park.I think you could argue Sexton would never have lasted as long if he didn't go back to Leinster at age 30. Such a shame that English sides don't look after their own talent as much.
Excellent as ever Robbie and Will
Thank you!
Definitely had my doubts about him when he first started playing for Ireland, especially when on the back foot, but he's undeniable now. It's hard as a Conor Murray fanboy to see the speed drop when he comes on.
He’d be in the conversation more if J G P wasn’t so hard to say.
D4 coke deals in for six straight year classic
Bravo Squidge. As an American who loves Rugby, I have been mesmerized by Gym Teacher Park like you. The Ruck speed and Rugby brain of this man is epic. Thanks for this and all your analysis’. Osprey ❤️ FreeJacks ❤
Most scrumhalfs can pass from the ruck quickly (ok except Murray) but JGP makes the correct pass from the ruck at lightning speed!
Aaron Smith like
@@canadiancontent352 Dupont like
@@superfastjellyfish78 i disagree, Dupont is a more dominant leader overall player whereas Smith and JGP are distributors
A pass so fast Brian Habana might try to race it!! Brilliant
great stuff as always! can't wait for the next video, the w6n has been a great antidote to post 6n blues
My god squid, he is something to behold after that analysis. Brilliantly 👍
One omission is his defense, specifically covering backfield and scramble, he never lets you down when he needs to be in the right place or make a last ditch tackle, think this is one area he is also up on Dupont
Speaking much slower and clearer, awesome work fella.
Irelands been great at developing scrum half’s, Conor Murray in his time was arguably the best at the time, JGP and hopefully Casey will carry the torch after 🙌
I'm yet to be impressed by Casey in green. But he's still young so there hope...
Don't realy rate casey. Then he started v Italy and I was impressed..... until JGP came on.
@@darragho6358 he makes me nervous but he is very eager.
yeah but JGP was raised in New Zealand. He’s enhanced his trade under Farrell and for Leinster.
Still not sure on Casey either
@daithipol Ah sure there's an 8 year experience difference, Caseys on the right path imo
Thank you Sage analytics
The bit of scrum half passing rather then sniping is so true, there nobody on the pitch that is better in the break pass then the scrum half it’s should be rule one of scrum half to be on your feet for as much as possible
I genuinely saw 'hamster' instead of 'hipster' in the little text comment above his head, and I'm afraid to say it was roughly 12% funnier.
Great vid thanks!
JGP is the square space of rugby players.
Excellent analysis as usual
great content, squidge!
Thank you!
Arguably Ireland changed the way they played to get him on the Jamison Gibson Park.
he's undeniably up there!
Excellent as ever
Great video. I said about 2 years ago he will get a world player of the year nomination before he retires, and this may be the year....
J. G. Park was on fire & brought the team with him . Delightful to watch . Good luck next week .
Will you do a video analysing defenses please?
Awesome video lads
Which park is more important to Irish sport, Croke or Jamieson Gibson?
Can you do a video on excellent defensive work by props?
lovely bit of videoing
I've never known who the okayer of the match was going to be so early before! He was immense in that match.
I know this is meant to be player, but damn if it isn’t the most beautiful typo
@@hitchikerspie whoops! I'm just going to leave it like that :). I think we've found a new award type.
I was there in the stands. Your only truly get to appreciate how easy he makes those lightning quick passes and impeccable support lines when you see him do it in person
So glad you clarified they're top of the "men's" world rankings... I'd still be sitting here thinking they were top of the women's.
Clicked the notification harder than Warren Gatland’s ruined his legacy
Another halfback who runs great support lines, up there with the best in the world is… TJ Perenara, who scored 7 tries in that season JGP was at the canes. I wonder how much being in the same squad developed JGP’s game
Great vid. JGP is the best 9 Ireland have been lucky to have.
Hands down the best rugby analyst in the world 🍆🫵
And this is why I wasn't worried about Sexton's retirement as Ireland have played off 9 more than 10 for the last 2 years. Jack Crowley has done well too to make up the gap at 10
I’m always surprised at how good Leinster is. But then I see the roster and realize it’s like 75% Irish internationals 😂
They were all trained in Leinster Academy then selected for Ireland. It’s Leinster’s development work feeding the Irish team.
They were Leinster players before they were Ireland players. The leinster acedemy system is unreal.
He is the most important player but Irish pundits don’t wanna say it because he’s from New Zealand. Like Luke McGrath was talking about JGP faults while saying Conor Murray is a great rugby player.
Ireland has wingers coming through to replace Lowe, we already have quality centres who can replace Aki and more coming through. We have no one present or anyone coming through who can replace Gibson Park. Him and Charlie Ngatai (most underrated player in the game) are two players who should’ve had long All Blacks careers
Charlie doesn't get near enough love. Gem of a player.
I may be out of the loop but who have we got in the pipeline to replace Lowe with a similar skillset? With the exception of Nash and Balacoune, neither of whom I'd rate as highly as Lowe, Ireland have had a hard time producing wingers of our own. There's plenty of promising young players coming through but no wingers jump out to me. Lots of quality centres who can fill in while waiting for the next one to come through
Shayne Bolton at Connacht looks the best match like for like to replace him as a power winger. Osborne will be a star in the centre and has an even bigger left boot than Lowe. The back 3 for the Irish u20s this year and last year have been impressive
@@eoinh3816 that's true actually I'm a big fan of Bolton and I'm happy to see him getting more game time this year. Hopefully he can continue to stay uninjured going forward. I will say with though about Bolton that he falls into that same category for me where again he's not an Irish produced winger. I've nothing against using players like Bolton or Hansen who qualify through family but it's somewhat strange that we haven't produced many wingers for a while now.
@@cilliandineen4862 The funny thing is Balacoune is Irish and he’s faster and more athletic than any player you could get overseas. Richie Murphy should help him improve his all round game
i wish robbie and will would talk about my beloved USA eagles and how we can improve as a rugby nation
Class
He made the same video on conor Murray a fue years ago and he hasn’t been the same since,if this happens with JGP after this video then it proves squidge hates it ireland 😂
great to see him in ye olden times down under. Crowley is very ordinary at international level. JGP covers up sexpot's loss well.
An absolute unsung Hero of Irish rugby, doesn't play too bad on the wing either ;)
As an Irish fan, I'm more worried about when we lose JGP than I was losing Sexton.
hang on... I think I've seen something about a scrum-half and the irish national rugby team here before. Must be deja vu :/
Can anyone from Kiwiland please explain what food JGP mentions at the end?
Sore feet?
Jelly- tip ice-cream.
Jellytip ice cream is an ice cream on a stick covered in chocolate. Kind of like a magnum, but thinner. Anyway. The tip of it is made of a jelly like substance. Not just ordinary jelly. Don't know if they still make them now.

It's coming! Ended up on the backburner for a few reasons, but it's coming, it'll happen!
U should say
“Sponsored by square space, the Jamison Gibson-Park…”
It's pretty incredible that a player that struggled to make the bench in Super Rugby teams was able to turn Ireland into the 3rd best team in the world.

Best team in Europe, Most consitent team in Europe in the last years? I forgot GP played for La Rochelle
Again, it's just what Ireland does. Sure, Sexton was meant to be vital same for BOD ROG and O connell. This is a carbon copy of this video made about Conor Murray 6 years ago explaining how he was so vital.
Rugbyyyyy
Omg are you Will Owen from Squidge Rugby
100% agree irelands best /most important player bar none
Great work Squidge, I endorse your piss taking of D4!
I would still pick faf
Gibson-Park is probably the best person playing at 9 right now in the world. Easy decision as DuPont is rugby in human form, so ruled out for eligibility reasons.
JGP is currently the best 9 playing XVs!

why does this guy hate aaron smith so much

Yeah casey is not up to it and crowley without jgp looks like a headless chicken out there. Probably not our best player but definitely our most important player
wouldnt kerr barlow be rated higher ignoring international games? his club has beaten JGPs team is 2 finals
Not fair for you to make a video of such exemplary scrum-half play and then cruelly dangle Aled Davies in front of me.
Uhmmm…ehhh..if you say so
So, here's the deal .jpg *is* the greatest scrum half in the world at the moment. He's not the greatest rugby player though... That's Antoine Dupont.
Simples...
first
no u werent😆
Aled Davies is crap and the reason saracens lost the 22 prem final. no need for false praise.
Love how JGP plays! Slow 9's are infuriating - stop talking and pass the damn ball already! Forwards are never going to go forward if the 9 is too busy jibber jabbering! Gregan's legacy to Australia was this slow bullsh*t (it's a tribute to the rest of that era Wallabies that they managed to win with Gregan slowing them down), and it still exists with players like Nic White...
Honestly...no hes not
He would be the perfect 9, if he was South African
Ireland's most important player isn't Irish. 😂
Pin me please
JGP is the best player in the second and third best teams in the world
Shouldn't be playing for Ireland. He's from New Zealand
Short answer No.
Aaron smith best 9 of all time ... stats back that up not ur feelings round ireland cant get past quater WC finals or fancy pants dupoints french side still no WC lol .... Every fucken year the NH media talk themselves up just to lose in WC 4 year cycle!
Dupont had a sulk and ran away ro play 7s coz he was upset he didn't win the wc 😂
@@MMako13 And it was him that brought the french 7's side their first victory in 19 years. He is the best, simple. World cups don't equal the best players, and Dupont would waltz into any team in the world. Smith would be benched in a heartbeat.
He's bang average on his best day. Couldn't hold Dupont's jock -- or even gaze upon it. He benefits most from POC coaching the forwards -- and JGP makes loads of basic unforced errors. Not as terrible a player as Lowe -- but will never be "great" in any sense. A placeholder at best
