Honestly at this point it is what is tho. I’ve had my invader for about 4 years now and it’s still holding up great. Surface is still smooth. And I play on it almost everyday too
Try the M12 with the laminate and you’ll feel a difference. Also, this pad without laminate actually comes closer to a marching drum with Mylar heads - which are easier on your hands and healthier for your wrists in the long run. (RCP also make a very hard pad that uses aluminum under the laminate, which is kind of what playing on high-tension Kevlar feels like, anyway. Maybe check out THAT pad.
I bought the LoneStar special edition gold Invader V3 that comes with a mylar laminate that feels amazing, especially right next to my friends Xymox pad. That laminate is also a lot fancier than the Vic Firth laminate.
Awesome. I have a Xymox pad and I like the sound of it. I ordered more Xymox pads in March and April 2019 and I just checked and they are still "In Production" :/ ...
I notice for some reason that Offworld changed how they produced the Invader somewhere along the way. That’s what leads to damage in the center and in extreme cases I’ve even seen bubbling. The early ones weren’t made like that. I’ve had my V3 for a DECADE and it hasn’t had any damage or need for waxing. I’ll have it forever. As for Xymox, they are the single most fragile pad on the market. They will break very easily. They take forever to arrive and the customer service is horrible. Anyone who has dealt with them knows how bad they can be. HOWEVER, the one pro is that with those (since they’ll break anyway) you can strip it down to just a gum rubber playing surface and have a snare gum pad that feels fantastic and will last.
I was wanting to upgrade from my 20-year old RealFeel pads (they still have the old HQ Percussion stickers and have held up great) and was trying to figure out what you were using in your other videos. I guessed it was either a V3 or IP. I ended up buying the non-ScoJo V3 because of the larger diameter. …and then I saw you had this review video. Glad I guessed right. Anyhow, It feels awesome, much like my Pearl with a WhiteMax batter and is kind of in the middle of the hard/soft side volumes of a ReelFeel. In addition to that Patreon link, you need an Amazon link that gets you a cut for your recommendations 😊 Thanks for the guidance!
I have never seen that happen to an offworld pad. They do say you have to clean it with window cleaner and turtle wax and stuff to maintain it, which is still a downside, but that does make it last longer. Or you can cover it with a laminate or stickers and stuff like a lot of people do
I really really like Xymox products. They make the best pads on the market, especially Tenor pads. However, I will never recommend that anyone buys from them because their service sucks. I’ve been waiting almost 2 years on a tenor kick. If they had decent service, I’d never buy anything else
I have the rcp active snare and completely agree with you. I don’t have the laminate but I’m going to try that and see if it feels better. Something needs to be altered with that design. My invader and slim pad are my favorites
Freestyle Rudiments Got the laminate and it’s much better. Still feels a little hollow to me (the wood bass needs to be thicker) but better articulation and overall sound quality. I wouldn’t recommend the pad without the laminate
Good video bro. Been after a decent neutral comparison pad video for a while, was tempted by the Xymox pad. Have also seen the Russ Miller Prologix that could be decent also.
thanks bro, let us know what you buy! I am about to release a new vid on the offworld 3 that might be worth your time if you want a marching snare type pad.
yea that would be cool, If they send me one I will review. I think RD is Europe? but might be harder to get the ram pad over here. Thou I am in the states for a trip next year (assuming virus has gone)
I don't know if the Invader V3 surface is different but the Scojo and the V3 look the same. I practice 4-8 hours a day on my v3 for multiple years and there is no damage. and yeah you can easily clean the surface of an invader/Scojo/Any offworld with some Turtle wax or armor-all
The v3 normally has a Mylar laminate head. There’s the original v3 with only the dark matter on both sides, then there’s the Mylar with Mylar on top and dark matter on the bottom.
I have tried the Vic Firth, Xymox, and currently own a ScoJo Offworld. I like the size but it's SUPER heavy and the rim feels okay but is SUPER loud, especially relative to the playing surface. I also feel that the rubber isn't hard enough and feels like it sucks some energy as well
Its a Gibraltar 6706EX. Great for practice pad BUT it doesn't holt a hts snare drum as the cradle is not wide enough. You can make it fit if you take the rubber off the cradle but thats not ideal, better finding a wider cradle of its for a drum.
I have been teaching drumline since I was 18 and now, I am 50. I have tired several of these drum pads over the years. from my first cheap remo cost $8 to $120 practice pads. There was kid that did not have much money and made a pad from a plywood board and foam. I took a look at these $15 to $20 Amazon chinese knockoffs. I bought one and realized that there was very little difference from the expensive practice pads. That kids had that for the last 3 years. He has played WGI and DCI corps with that pad and I have had one for the last 2 years. I play on it while I write drumline parts. The only thing i had to do was reglue the rubber part back on. only once and no other issues.
yea most pads are gum rubber, its cheap and works great, the pads like Offworld and Brittcorps use some sort of "setting" silicon and they research and additional cost pushes all those prices up.
Freestyle Rudiments yea true, I prefer the xymox 14 inch just because not only does it play great, but the new stuff they added in laminates and customizing is great
