    Lots of dudes showing off gear on UA-cam but not many actually go into detail about all the little parts and purposes. Thanks.

    Again, thanks for the video. I appreciate you taking the time to show us what you've collected and how they are used. I was in the Army infantry in Vietnam in 68-69 and am familiar with the equipment you show here.

    My Canvas buttpack when I bought it has the Waterproof liner cut out and a missing end tab for a strap but is still in decent shape regardless. My dads Buttpack he used on his WEB gear in the army is fairly used and the liner is in pristine shape.

    Your videos and the apparent deep research you've done (on what I've found to be a rather confusing subject due to overlap, replacements, etc) have been very helpful in my search for a better (and larger) butt pack for my bushcraft ALICE belt and harness setup.

    Thanks man very helpful.. I happen to live near an army base and many civilians work on the base and bring home lots of surplus gear and I have tons of bags and other gear and the m1961 was one of the bags I got and the straps and their uses where a little confusing and u cleared up my confusion thanks

      Oh I wouldn't know about that you can pack alot in there if you know how to do it right. Socks and under clothing are a must in the butt pack foot powder maybe some pocket knives rations mess kit and utensils. Basic first aid supplies and para cord are good to put in it. Para cord is good for lashing but you can cut sections off to make a fire starter.

    Just wondering Nick do you know of any details of what exactly was supposed to be carried in the M-1956 field pack, were there regulation contents?

    • @collectornick4270

      The EX 54-14 Combat pack (experimental M56 butt pack) had a packing list of
      Poncho, 1 pair of wool socks, Toiletries, Towel and 1/3 C-Ration
      However they nver had a specific list to my knowledge but the M67 had one tho. I have yet to do a video about these lists tho.

      That's fantastic, thank you! I'm planning a comparison with the British 1958 Pattern web equipment and that will be a great help in comparing the 'butt pack' to the 'kidney pouches'

    It's weird, on the inside flap of mine it's labeled 'M1956 COMBAT FIELD PACK' but mines the 1961 model? I'm not sure about it's date, it's really faded

    • @collectornick4270
      @collectornick4270  5 років тому +1

      Early M1961 butt packs had the same M1956 stamp for some reason.

    People shun the word Alice for Vietnam it was the Alice pack that wasn’t used the Alice system was use aka “slide keepers” are Alice clips

    • @gijr2003
      @gijr2003 4 роки тому +3

      FutureJarhead Nope, M1956 had slide keepers that everyone calls "Alice" clips. Just because it was green and nylon doesn't mean it was "Alice" gear. They went through several test mods between M1956 canvas and ALICE nylon gear. Olive Drab site has best list of gear used.

    Awesome video, do you know anything about the greek buttpacks? i recently bought a pack advertised as 1961 style Greek US contract made buttpack. it doesnt have an nsn but it has US stamp. after watching the 1961 video, the pack still seems different.

    • @collectornick4270
      @collectornick4270  7 років тому

      Brian Brewer unfortunately I do not know a lot about greek M56 styled gear or why they have US stamps

    • @foxbar87
      @foxbar87 7 років тому

      From what I have gathered, the Greek packs were originally US M1961 packs that were never fielded by the army, for reasons unknown, but were sold to Greece to be used by the Greek army. Probably because of the m1967 gear, which upgraded to nylon that was lighter and more durable than canvas in jungle environments.
