I was a radioman in Vietnam and an Alice pack may have been one of the reasons I made it home. In a firefight, the life expectance of a radioman was 7 sec. The radio was never carried on one of those stupid boards. You got an Alice pack and but the radio in it ran the tape antenna tied along a shoulder strap and kept the handset under your shirt. You did not want the Viet Cong to know you had a radio. Try hiding a PRC 77 in one of those small packs you have there. I was a marine and in Nam in 69 and 70. We never stopped long enough to dig a hole so you can through the entrenching tools oner there with the Alice pack.
@USMC Airsoft You are correct about it being a lightweight rucksack. It was a lot bigger than the combat field pack we were issued in the Marines. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Thank you for your service.
The Tropical ruck didn't come out until 68 and weren't wide used until late 68, most units used the lightweight rucks even in the 70s. Cavs used them I know in the 70s. Field packs (Butt) were used when patrolling, ambushes, Listening posts, where rucks were heavy to carry. As, for personal items I've seen them carried in empty 7.62 ammo cans ( GI briefcase) the claymore bags if carried, carried the mine, trip flares were carried. For reenactment reasons extra clothes are fine, but not correct. Extra socks were the only things carried, most guys by mid late war weren't wearing t-shirts in the field or boxers. They carried extra water, ammo, food, letters, photos from home. They also had care packages from home they carried, cookies, candy, packs of gum, drink mixes, coffee cans, etc. They also received soda and beer with the resupplies and would would carry up to 3 to cans of their choice. Masks were carried, where gas was being used, bayonets were carried, except by those wanting to look cool or tuff and on their suspenders. Plus pens, paper for writing home, maybe a paperback book, if you liked reading, car mags, playboy, what most 18, 19 years olds would. That's why these rucks weighed 70 + to 100 lbs. Some carried the rubber "B" air mattress, as well good for moving things like the radio across rivers. Not every one would carry a E tool, maybe two in a squad, same with machete. A lot of factors played in this, unit, type of missions, time period, etc.
um when I went to a military collectables store I legit managed to find a australian issued / made PRC-77 radio unit just radio radio nothing else, for 45 bucks
@@Inbush-cx6tt you will mate it's a bloody great store, I copped a P88 auscam webset for 70 bucks with canteens and kidney cups and all. I do know the shop. but it's a matter of where the radio has already been found by some person because it is a miliary collectables store so it's one off, but if I could I would buy it and just send it over
1:32 Rocco: these go for a ridiculous amount of money and are getting harder and harder to find Rocco: drops both rucksacks 4 times before getting it in the right place
Initially - I thought... "Geez... kid... you're too young to be making claims like this". But then I thought... "Oh hell... I'm entertained... and honestly... this kid has more old militia than old rangers." You're really into this - and I enjoyed watching... love old army.
Also I just got a sleeping bag, and m56 straps, where can I put that

I aprove of this kind of youngin hanging around my boy respect brother just remember all this stuff is for defending ur family and protecting poeple that cant not for mischief right lol not talking about the back packs lol
For my gear I just connected a m1961 and a m1956 butt pack together and it holds all the stuff I need, I'm working on investing in a m1945 pack (before you say anything fuck you). Even though m1945 packs where not issued in larger numbers its the only thing in my budget that doesn't drain the bank too much.
I understand u are doing a us soldier impression though I just want to give some info. The sasr in Vietnam used canvas Bergen's. They were from ww2 however it's size made it so no bum pack was needed on the webbing. just some quick info
I found a near mint ARVN ruck for $95 (I don't know what shipping would be yet). Should I buy it? Just asking for your opinion if that is a good price.
Unfortunately no,even though it could be argumented it is “war time” I NEVER made it over seas to Vietnam.for example my newest uniform was made in 2015 and it just made its way to be in europe
Well he may be chubby a tad, I carried a belly though jump school and the 82nd and SE Asia to boot. . Only trouble with this young fellow is he YOUNG, I got scars from the Nam older than this young fellows Mom and Dad.
You can afford three rucks but not a PRC? Haha. Not trying to throw shade, shit's expensive I get it, but my PRC was not much more expensive than my LW ruck.
you can do whatever you want to do with it you can set it up however you want there is no correct way hell I don't care if he said don't put a buttpack on your lw rucksack only if your doing 9th id do whatever you want like I said there is no correct way to put it
Does he really have to be that fat and those are probably World War II
whats ww2 and off
Lol check this new video or his Instagram 😂 he wears a size medium, which I'm proud of him for losing weight
And there not world war 2
Bruh
@@No_fritz01 fuck thst look at em now 😂 hope whoever posted this vastly unnecessary comment sees how my mans rocco looks now

I like how when he picks up the alice pack and says if your having money problems then you hear money fall to the floor 😂😂😂😂
yeah lol
I don't think it was planned
“ and there getting harder to find every day “ yeah no wonder you own them all even the ones you don’t like lol
I got p68 rucksack like a 2 weeks ago
Is against Alice pack, but is fine with post war M3 bag🤔
Lmao
Hi john
dude this is honest to god the funnest shit on vietnam gear i have ever seen. love it man keep up the great work!
I’ve seen 4th ID using tropicals
For the gas mask bag I have a period music radio that fits perfectly in the square side pocket
Would the 9th only have a buttpack on the lightweight frame or a ruck with it?
Also curious as well
You should do a good in-depth video on how you attach the lightweight bag high on the frame
Good idea I will
It's not hard
Being completely green as to vietnam reenactment and knowing little on the subject, why are ALICE packs a bad idea to bring along?
Actually I'm gonna do a video covering a that tmrw since a couple people have asked me this week
Never see so much ruckack , for my part i have only arvn version

Regarding this, does this imply that only the 1st cav runs tropical rucks or tropical rucks on the ruckframe?
um when I went to a military collectables store I legit managed to find a australian issued / made PRC-77 radio unit just radio radio nothing else, for 45 bucks
Seriously?do you remember where I'll have to call and see if they have more,I will take a trip for that😂

i just bought a marine field pack with Etool holder and Etool. amazing shape. payed 250 for it
Did marines use lightweight rucks
Nah I never put my Vietnam war kit together yet don’t have the trousers and jungle boots for the kit yet

Wish I would’ve stumbled on this before I went through the trouble of restoring a medium Alice.
*cries in M-65 field jacket*

ALICE pack is okay for hiking and that's about it.

Really great video! Also I checked out your new vids, you look completely different. Congrats
Lmaoo thanks bro I appreciate it a shit ton…I’m still a fucking retard though unfortunately
The radio looks awesome
That's appreciate it I still have mixed feelings
Can i use a m41 haversack its dated 1962
only for marines
vietnam m16 bro thats awesome,,
Has the price changed at all?
any idea what the 23rd infantry div wore along these lines?
I found all my grandfathers stuff and I’m trynna figure out how to put it on 💀
For a 68 Army impression, should i get an ARVN ruck?

Do u thing man but if I were you I would just keep saving, repro lightweights recently came out pretty cheap
Thanks for replying, I have been saving but I’m a broke bitch and even the cheapest of repros are too expensive for me :(
@@Inbush-cx6tt finally got a p-68 man
Where can I get a plastic one like yours? (Radio)

Wheres the best place to start looking for a decent price bag? Lw ruck
Nice LightweightRuck wonder who you got that from ;) @me
Do you have any nam ammo boxes for sale?
hey Rocco, love the content!! quick question, what us army divisions used tropical rucks and arvn rucks?
I’ve seen 1st cav and 4th ID
The ALICE pack isn't junk, it's just not right for the impression lol. As far as rucks go, it kicks the Lightweight and Tropical rucksacks asses.
It is a piece of junk though…. It’s so clunky and annoying and the straps are hard to adjust
Where did you get the prc I want one just because others to expensive
What's a good price for the frame? The unit I portray uses the frame with buttpacks (2nd Battalion, 47th Inf., 9th ID)
With straps probably 150
I found a near mint ARVN ruck for $95 (I don't know what shipping would be yet). Should I buy it? Just asking for your opinion if that is a good price.
If u can get it for under 170 in total I would definitely hop on it
@@Inbush-cx6tt Alright, thanks!
Would a WWII or M1952 Mountain ruck be good for an airborne impression?
No
some 101st guys used 52s but you probably know that by now
Great video
Oh can you use a medium alice ruck for nam mines the lc1 74 dated one
Unfortunately no,even though it could be argumented it is “war time” I NEVER made it over seas to Vietnam.for example my newest uniform was made in 2015 and it just made its way to be in europe
Can you tell me we’re you got the prc 77 or link it
Would a Korean War upper pack work in place of a ruck?
For early to mid war marines
How common was the arvn in 68-72? I’ve seen pics but not a ton. I’ve seen some for really cheap like under 100 and would like to get this
Not to common but it's way cheaper then lw so u shouldnt get to much crap for it,that's a decent price u should pick it up
Will a cargo shelf off a p65 riveted frame fit on a earlier welded frame ?
They are identical except for little holes but yes it will fit
Have you bag for sniper rifle in Vietnam?
Hmm I not to familiar with that,I would assume most would be private purchase.hopefully someone in the comment section could enlighten us both
I found a Vietnam war rucksack in a pawn shop got 40 bucks, I bought it because I thought it look cool
Well he may be chubby a tad, I carried a belly though jump school and the 82nd and SE Asia to boot. . Only trouble with this young fellow is he YOUNG, I got scars from the Nam older than this young fellows Mom and Dad.
It's fucking stupid to find a Vietnam era rucksack that go for 3 - $600
"Indiana Jones or Bruce Jenner" ... Well you've covered the gambit.
You can afford three rucks but not a PRC? Haha. Not trying to throw shade, shit's expensive I get it, but my PRC was not much more expensive than my LW ruck.
Honestly your right,I just tend to find the good deals when I'm broke lmao
Be a little careful with that stuff
you can do whatever you want to do with it you can set it up however you want there is no correct way hell I don't care if he said don't put a buttpack on your lw rucksack only if your doing 9th id do whatever you want like I said there is no correct way to put it
Hey I’m a new viewer I’m getting into reenactment thanks for the info!
I'll bet you that room smells just like a CIF.
More like your sisters box
You here that he can fist the tube
Can I use a tropical ruck for 101st?
Hmm hmu on instagram lemme do some digging around
Inbush 1969 alright will do. I have a question. How big are c ration boxes? I’m making a repro out of cardboard.
Nope only if your doing SOG 101st
moodischill ok thanks
holy shit the alice pack really does suck
It really is a dog shit ruck I think with modern shoulder straps the lightweight is the greatest rucksack the military has ever produced
I got my Arvin rucksack for 20$
I more prefer a CISO ruck for my impression 😂
He said or Bruce Jenner 🤣
