Pano po pag ganya ang design simply supported pero pag dating sa site is.. bolted at welded kasama ang flange ?may nakita ako pag ganon is moment connection na or fixed supported na ang connection. Follow up question.. If kung weld or bolt ba ang boung section ng I beam or H beam.. sa pagkuha nang moment wl^2/12 po ba yung sa fixed connection?

You are absolutely right. However, codes are changing or updating frequently but not the theory and the actual experience. What I am sharing is for someone who believes in the theory and what has been proven in real life, if anyone is about to take the board examination, I suggest that they should learn first what it says in the book and the latest code. There is no single reference I just wrote down important formulas in my notes from various books. About structural aluminum, the approach is the same as steel you just need to determine yield strength of such material and analyze its resistance by getting moment-of-inertia of such section to be designed. Normally it depends on the column to column distance, seldom by building height. But generally, just to give you a tentative idea, size plays around 150mmx400mm or 200x350 I-beam(unit wt. ranges from 26 - 32kg/m) for a 4mx4m slab panel. just wanna ask, what code did you used, ASD? LRFD? and how about check bolt to column?

That's fine, If you analyze it as simply supported you are in a safe size. WL^2/8 > WL2/12
