I used Evaporust on this to clean it. That is a miracle chemical in my opinion. I'm not compensated, I really like the product. If you guys never tried it, you should. The key is wire wheel, soak, rinse with water, blow off with compressed air, then wire wheel again. Sometimes you have to do it twice if it's real bad. It won't take off heavy scale, it has its limitations. It's a cleaning "aid" not a magic wand. Lol
Oh, I still have to make a little oil reservoir for the front. It holds oil for the ways. It was broken and missing when I got it.

I don't know, I think magic wand is a pretty good description. :) Great job on the planer, really looks nice!

I can tell by the close ups what kind of shape it was in before.
You did a wonderful restoration. I like it a lot.

What a nice machine, I’ve never seen one in that small size. Sure would be handy to have one in my shop. Thanks for sharing.

that is a beautiful little machine ...where was it made

    • @onestopfabshop3224

I have no idea where it was made. There are no numbers cast into it, a spot where a tag used to be or anything. But it's gotta be old. A lot of the bolts that hold it together are center drilled on each end like they were made by hand on a lathe. Thanks for checking it out.

What keeps the table from lifting up? I saw some old planers where the table had dovetails, which is self explanatory on why it couldn't lift up, but two V ways just makes me wonder if gravity is the only thing holding the table down?
I would love to know the answer.

There's 2 rollers that ride on top of the table on either side of that upright. Not the best design because chips can get between the bed and rollers. I try to keep that from happening during operation but brushing them away. I think it's a very old machine. Thanks for watching.

    Hi,
A nice little machine... I think it is a bit bigger than my shaper...
How come no more videos? The more you do the easier it gets (well sort of)
    Take care
    Paul,,

I know, I know!!! I just have to get a fire under my butt. I want to make my next video of my old antique metal lathe. (Not my main lathe) It's a Porter Machine Works made in Hatfield Massachusetts. The swing is 16-1/2", came with a 12" 4 jaw and a 16" face plate. It has been converted from direct belt drive. Now the big flat belt goes to the input side of an old 3 speed car transmission. The output shaft of the transmission has a sprocket and there's another sprocket on the medium drum where the original belt used to go. I don't think someone made it, I think it was a kit you bought to convert it. It has a drum brake on the INPUT side run by a lever, then there's a lever to engage the friction clutch to turn the transmission. It probably sounds complicated, and it's hard to describe in words. I'll take a detailed video of how it all works and with it running. I'm just a really busy guy, but I hope to get time to do it soon. I do a lot of really neat things in my shop and Id like to start putting out more video on that. Thank you for checking out my planer and subscribing, much appreciated. You've given me a much needed kick in the pants to make more videos, but with my time, there's no promises. I do promise I'll try. Take care buddy.

That would have been an interesting restoration to have seen the whole process. The design of this, unlike the shapers Abom79 has, is like Keith Rucker's much bigger one that he is restoring: It moves the work piece not the tool. By the way, you left a comment on my "Reboring SC2 minilathe chuck jaws" according to my emails but for some odd reason it has not appeared below the video on youtube. Gremlins!

How they did in the older days.

I know, I really like the old ways. I've never seen another planer like this before . I don't know if it was a working display of a larger unit that the sales guy carted around with him, but there's no maker marks, numbers, codes or anything anywhere on it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I've never seen a way oiler setup like that. It just couldn't get any simpler, I like that a lot. Great looking machine, I hope it gets used regularly. Machines are happiest when they get some exercise!

@@onestopfabshop3224 One Stop did you see my message above?? Last night, towards the end of Lady Di stream, she was talking about EMOS BROTHER. I cooed and pasted a video of EMOS BROTHER stealing. I put the time stamp for her to go to in the stream and she put it up her panel. Abe jumps in and takes my wrench and blocks me and says it a sock. Lady Di said which one this one. He said yes and he said I took care of he's gone. It was really me. I cannot type in the chat because this is the only channel I have. They can look and see when my channel was created. I have never ever said 1 bad word about Lady Di and Abe blocked me for no reason. Can you please pass this on to Lady Di I cannot even type in the chat. What he did to me was wrong. Thanks

This is awesome! I had no idea that anyone ever even made a little one. Beautiful restoration.
I am going to forward this to Dave Richards who restored a full sized one. If you have never checked him out you should. He maintains and operates a full size steam powered machine shop that is all belt drive, full of 1925 and earlier machinery.

Thank you, I will check him out. I have never even heard of a mini planer. My buddy owns a truck engine shop and we were out looking in his storage trailers and I saw it. I said, I need that.... right now! It was his son's as it tells in the description He didn't wanna part with it tho. So I kept checking, and asking and about 6 month I finally broke him down. He gave it to me for free because he knew I was going to bring it back to life, use it, and not just check it up and sell it. You should have seen it before, ask rusted, hardened grease and chips packed in all the gears, it was totally seized when I got it. He even gave me a big box of high speed steel cutters, and a two small boring bars to do internal key slots. I absolutely love this little machine. Thank you so much for taking the time!
