Your story reminded me: When I love something I also love it hard, and this trait also made me get pretty weird at age 12- What’s with that? Anyways, there was this boy that I was OBSESSED with in the 6th grade. I wrote about him in my diary every day, and about our interactions and how he was “falling for me”. The reality was that I just sat behind him in one of my classes, and the kid barely said two words to me all year. Most of our interactions involved him asking to borrow a pencil from me, or blinking in my general direction and that’s it. Needless to say, he hardly knew I existed. This one day I knew his birthday was coming up, so I decided it would be a good idea to WRITE and RECORD HIM A BIRTHDAY SONG TO THE TUNE OF “AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL”. All of the lyrics were about how cute he was: Threw his name in there and everything, the whole lyrical shebang. It was ULTRA cringe/creepy. I still remember the first line was, “oh beautiful for bluest eyes and amber locks of hair.” Straight-up made myself sound like a cereal killer… AND THEN…I PROCEEDED TO POST THE RECORDING IT TO HIS PUBLIC FACEBOOK PAGE. Oh oof! I'm so glad facebook was only just coming into being popular when I was that age otherwise I'm sure I would have embarrassed myself publicly.... Instead I managed the most awkward thing ever, which was telling my crush that both my friend and I had a crush on him and he could decide which of us to "go out" with (whatever that means when you're 12). I followed this sentence with getting so overwhelmed that I fell over backwards and lay on the grass for a bit in front of him 🤣
Great story. Lucky for me we didn't have computers when I was 12. Those crushes and notes were so daring and full of anxiety....but we somehow were compelled to !!
My crush was sick one day. I rushed home to get him a GetWellSoon card and borrowed my moms lipstick to put a massive greasy lipstick kiss on it. We're not talking subtle, we're talking actively staining your fingers with pure thick lipstick. The next day, his friends were there and I asked if they could give it to him. They said he was never sick and skipped school for a footballgame. He walked upon the dchoolyard and I handed him the card. He opened it up, stared at it, thanked me with a strange look and asked me why I did this. I mentioned I loved him. I recall him saying he didn't love me back. I remember saying: That's totally okay, I will keep sending cards though." Both of our moms then got involved, his mom thought it was cute and made him miss a footballgame to visit my birthday. My mom got involved by filming his team during sportsday, so I had a short clip to see him, for when I was older, as a cute memory. You can see him staring into the camera with an "Oohh no." face. Then his mom made him invite me to hís birthday and his friends yelled at me that he didn't want me there. And at the end of the graduationparty, he spontaniously wanted to slowdance together and I was very excited and held his shoulders like we were in a rugbychant or something, fully-stretched out arms and a broad scary smile. I only checked his FBprofile _once_ and he has a boat now. He always spoke about getting a boat, so I am happy for him.
Now I feel like I have to share my 12 year old trauma. I was “going out with” my long time crush. We were passing notes in class, and instead of throwing them out, like normal kids, we stuffed them into our desks. He wrote a note saying, “Do you want to kiss me?” Then he wrote yes, maybe, or no for me to circle. In truth, I was TERRIFIED to kiss him, but I did want to, so I circled maybe. Some of the typical mean girls got ahold of the note, and they changed the word kiss to the eff word. Then a teacher found it, and they gave it to the principal. We ALL got called to the principal individually. I was crying and swore my crush wrote the word kiss, and we never even did that. (Luckily I was super close to my mom, so I already told her my crush asked me to kiss him, and that I wanted to, but I was also too scared to.) Our principal told us she was going to send the note and samples of our handwriting to a handwriting specialist to get to the bottom of it. This was supposed to make us nervous, but little, goody two shoes, honest me was so happy and said, “I can give you my piggy bank money to help pay for it if it will get the results in faster.” My principal also called my mom in (and none of the other involved students’ parents in) and she GAVE HELL that her 12 year old daughter was being $exualized and essentially being forced to prove her virg!nity. Disclaimer: I used the $ symbol as an S and the ! symbol as an I to get past the UA-cam word sensors.

I loved everything about this video, but I wanted to highlight the Day 2 outfit and energy (11:13)! The combination of the crop top, the hair, the huge black coffee mug and even the mic pack, all while Rachel was telling her plans for the day... I just suddenly felt as if in the presence of some cool film producer or something. So cool! 🤩
Once in high school I hand made cute little mini valentine's cards for everyone in my class. No one said anything and I'm pretty sure everyone thought I was weird. In the UK, card sharing at schools is pretty much unheard of 😅 They were heckin' cute though so, ehh, their loss 💕
A perhaps strange addition to the comment section but: I really love the music choices in your videos! its one of my favorite parts of watching your work!
I am a middle school math teacher, and I am going to Professionally Say that I am very proud of both your middle school honesty AND your circle skirt work. I was very impressed by your grit to figure it out and get it done. A+
Your story about Sean reminded me of when I was in middle school and wrote a very long love letter to a boy in the 6th grade WHO I HAD NEVER MET but was "in love" with because he was an emo guy with spiky hair and how I would stalk him between classes with the note in my pocket just waiting for the day I would give it to him, and now my body is rapidly attempting to fold in on itself and disappear out of sheer embarrassment
Are we not gonna talk about how you look exactly like the original model who modeled that swimsuit!? 🙃 I had to double take because I thought "no way did she actually make the suit and then edit herself into that vintage video??" loll *also obsessed with the outcome as always 💗
I hadn't noticed in the moment, but went back to look, and you're right! In Rachel's brunette phase; that model has her same smile and everything! Also, checking the side-by-side screenshots, her little hearts are placed EXACTLY where the originals were. Such perfection!
Does anyone else like the videos before you even watch them because you know no matter what the videos are about you're going to enjoy them just because it's Rachel? ♥︎
I completely thought the fabric was just patterned! You *drew* all those? Freehand?! With that kind of accurate consistency?! Well, that's just cool. You are quite talented. Allow me to pour a cup of the unsurprised juice.
You're not 😊 In fact, I don't normally have subtitles up but with Rachel, I bring them up because she always puts in that little bit extra that just adds the the whole viewing experience for me!
This video was exactly what I needed today. I put down my 15 year old cat yesterday and really needed some cheering up. Thank you Rachel for always coming through with feel good videos. ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss hon. But 15 years is a good long life for a cat, and I’m sure they were very loved under your care. I hope that can bring you some comfort
Love it! If you want to avoid the flattening effect when adding a flat appliqué to a darted area, pin and sew it on while it’s on a mannequin that’s holding out the curves. I learned that working on wedding dresses, it’s really useful!
That story about you and Sean is honestly so adorable lol. I can’t imagine what must’ve been going thru his little twelve year old boy head when he discovered the psychotic obsessive tendencies of girls in love
I’ll never forget my first, about the same age with a very popular guy at my school. I left a metal CD I mixed myself (with the help of my Dad), hand drew a cd cover and left it in his guitar case at the youth church group our moms made us attend. I still can’t believe It worked 😂. I never spoke a word to him tho because I was shy af so he did end up breaking up with me 😅. After that we were cool and got to hang out, play gears of war and metal which was more fun especially since I apparently didn’t know what that shit was about yet anyways lol
@@grandmasgopnik9642 oh the classic mix cd with the hand drawn cover *chef's kiss* I kind of miss being able to give this kind of gift to people I like. The last time I did that was in 2012, it was so nice. But also hard feel the liking someone and then when they give you attention just being totally too shy/awkward in my case to speak a word to them.
It’s even funnier to me because I was completely the opposite (helps that I’m autistic), I had a crush on a boy when we were like 9 so I told him to meet me after gym, asked very bluntly “hey do you want to go steady,” he was completely flabbergasted but totally down and that was that tbh, that was the most romantic thing I’ve done in my life. Learning that I’m aroace a solid decade later also made that make a lot of sense. I do still feel a bit bad about it bc he was very sweet, sent me romantic emails and gave gifts iirc, and two years later I just moved to a different country and he was mildly heartbroken. He deserved so much better for his first puppy love, I hope he’s doing good!
@@petloverspy honestly I relate to rachel’s story even less, cuz it’s been 16 years and I haven’t had one crush thus far. Boys are just a waste of time, think I might wait another decade 😂
For a second I really thought when the leap year romper was shown I thought Rachel edited her face on but nope just an incredible resemblance! ❤ please tell me you see it too😍
Oh Rachel, this is one of my favourite vids of yours. The dress is brilliant! ps.My dear old friend, Angela James, was a model for Vogue in the 60s and she modelled for Teddy Tinling!!! (Alas, she passed away 3 yrs ago) But we had some amazing times going through her wardrobe! XXXXX
Goodness, it doesn't matter how crappy of a mood I am in, as soon as I start watching one of these videos I cannot help but smile. Thanks, Rachel, you craft wizard hobbit queen.
hard agree with everyone complimenting your perfectly uniform hearts, but also specifically how you are able to draw them in any direction without having to twist around ❤
I was really into bubble letters as a kid. I got really creative with it, but I kept it to myself for the most part. I had this crush on this kid for years. All through middle school,. I had a wall in my room where I drew his name in creative ways. My father was a single dad. I can imagine the thoughts he had seeing some strange boys name all over my wall.
8:17 "...so I just tucked it away and pretended that it didn't exist; which, coincidentally, is how I solve pretty much any problem in my life." TOO FREAKING REAL!!!!! Love the video, Rachel!
When I was in school teachers would outsource test grading by having us grade our fellow students tests. Imagine my delight when I got my crush's test to grade in 8th grade science class. I saw an opportunity and seized it, writing hearts with his name in them all over the test. He did not reciprocate my love, but he was a gentleman and allowed me one dance at our end-of-year dance. The song was Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby." Highest point of my life up to that moment.
I want to see his reaction to literally everything she makes. That would be such a fun outro. (Although I don't want to give up the bloopers & random singing/Frodo/bad puns)
There are pretty easy quick fixes for the few "flaws" you see in it. For the over-skirt flapping open: Sew two tiny magnets into the seams where you want it to overlap. For the gap in the waistband of the over-skirt: Make a luxurious oversized ribbon bow in that lovely red color!
I am OBSESSED! Sewing machines are untameable mechanical beasts yet you did such a gorgeous job and ugh, the shoes, hat, stockings, makeup, hair, all of it was so beautifully executed!
The last video she used that pattern in was when she went to the beach with her friend. She turned a green umbrella into a pumpkin, made bat wings out of Model Magic on her sunglasses, and used that pattern to make a spider web themed bathing suit
Your Sean story is as relatable to me as having to go look for the Kraft paper. Chaos vortex solidarity fistbump. My 6th grade obsession was a guy named Andy, and the way I showed my adoration was to thwap him on the back of the head every time I “had” to sharpen a pencil in the ancient table-mounted sharpener behind him. He eventually asked me to stop. Sorry I was a butthole, Andy.
My 6th grade obsession got told “I still love you” after he broke his front teeth in a fall. He gave me a look that would have put me 6 feet under. ❤️🩹
I'm so vicariously proud of you for deciding to adjust the heart bust! That's definitely something I would leave as a "you win some you lose some" but the extra effort was 100% worth it! I love this result so much. And I actually love the way the detachable circle skirt lays open, it reminds me of a cute beach cover-up or a cool swooshy cloak 😂
She's back! What a joy to watch! 1. A well done cute and creative project you could take your time with and clearly enjoyed. That dress is *chef's kiss*. 2. The clear time which was, hopefully happily, but into the editing. 3. Chatting like an old friend, both Frodo and Binx, and all the little extras like the prop. 4. And most important, the joy and positivity radiating out of the screen. I hope you had even half a much fun making this as we had watching it. If this is what the new schedule brings in terms of your mental health and the content I'm here for it! *Raising my coffee cup again* HUZZAH!
Please give your ironing board some LOVE and some oil! 😂 LOVE the dress and all those hearts! Just want to also say thank you. It's because of you I now buy patterns even if i only like part of it, and not afraid to mix and match with a completely different pattern, creating something totally unique. Thank you, you're inspirational.
it turned out SO FREAKIN CUTE! and i honestly love how the overskirt came out, the slightly gap in the front looked really intentional to me and its fun seeing the different layer underneath. i am also, like the rest of your rabid fans, in awe that you can hand draw *that many hearts* and have them all looking so closely related. mine could never 😂
This dress is adorable and it feels very in character that you have to balance that out with creepy (though honestly, I thought it was cute!) story and "luring unsuspecting deep sea creatures to their deaths"
The Sean story was far too relatable, I was the same way as a 12 year old, spying on my crush, locking myself in his room every time I was at his house, being an overall stalker/sociopath, etc
Thank you for showing when you struggle with things! I'm self taught and found making a half circle skirt really hard. I could not work out how to get a straight waistband on a curved waist, turns out the answer was just "cut notches in"... Ah well, always learning!
I just want you to know that I was SOOO excited you asked for a "HUZZAH" that I ended up starting too early like 4 times ❤️ SOOO, many HUZZAH's for finding stuff in your own craft horde

I'm still overthinking the line about Dover 'take me by the cliffs and shove me over' 🤔
I am a middle school math teacher, and I am going to Professionally Say that I am very proud of both your middle school honesty AND your circle skirt work. I was very impressed by your grit to figure it out and get it done. A+
Just by looking from the thumbnail, this is one of the cutest dresses I have ever seen 💕
🙃 I had to double take because I thought "no way did she actually make the suit and then edit herself into that vintage video??" loll
*also obsessed with the outcome as always 💗
Yes!!! Was looking for this comment! I had to go back and watch that part again because I thought it was her 😂
I hadn't noticed in the moment, but went back to look, and you're right! In Rachel's brunette phase; that model has her same smile and everything!
Also, checking the side-by-side screenshots, her little hearts are placed EXACTLY where the originals were. Such perfection!
I noticed that too! 🥰
I was looking for this comment! They look so much alike it's crazy!
that's actually a bit creepy 🧐😳
Does anyone else like the videos before you even watch them because you know no matter what the videos are about you're going to enjoy them just because it's Rachel? ♥︎
Yes I always open, like first then enjoy!! And then comment 😂
Me too!!!!
I would go so far out of my way to do the Rachel side quest in any game ❤️⚔️
Okay but who else needs that “you’re not the worst” valentine as a sticker?
I completely thought the fabric was just patterned! You *drew* all those? Freehand?! With that kind of accurate consistency?!
Well, that's just cool. You are quite talented. Allow me to pour a cup of the unsurprised juice.
I just wanted to thank you for the subtitles. They make viewing so much better, I really appreciate it and I'm sure I'm not alone in this.
You're not 😊 In fact, I don't normally have subtitles up but with Rachel, I bring them up because she always puts in that little bit extra that just adds the the whole viewing experience for me!
For some reason this reminds me of the classic red Betty Boop dress. You look so adorably classic and festive! So well done💃
That little candy hearts background when she was showing the supplies was soooo cute and satisfying
Its like Raggedy Ann grew up into a fashionable, classy lady ❤
Simply adorable! As an artist myself, I'm AMAZED that you were able to paint all those hearts and have them look the same! I'd have to make a stencil.
This video was exactly what I needed today. I put down my 15 year old cat yesterday and really needed some cheering up. Thank you Rachel for always coming through with feel good videos. ❤
Awww sorry!! I had to do the same with my 14 yr old baby boy last week. Sending you ❤
Poor girl! Be strong.
I’m so sorry for your loss hon. But 15 years is a good long life for a cat, and I’m sure they were very loved under your care. I hope that can bring you some comfort
My heart goes to you. I also have a sick kitty. Sending prayers of comfort and love for you in this time.
I'm so sorry. I'm sending prayers and hugs your way.
I related way too hard 💕
Mushroom pincushion...I have died from cuteness overload. 😍🥰 Also, love the detachable overskirt.
ITS BEAUTIFUL (I haven’t even finished the video but I’m predicting it lol)
based on the thumbnail and it being a rachel video, i agree
For a second I really thought when the leap year romper was shown I thought Rachel edited her face on but nope just an incredible resemblance! ❤ please tell me you see it too😍
SAME i thought it was deepfaked on, lmao!
XXXXX
Wow how amazing about Your Friend Angela , sounded like a fun time ! Sorry for Your loss but thanks for sharing
A year ago you would've settled for leaving the bust flat, and this year you full-assed the thing! I knew you could do it!
okay but the 60s/70s fashion during the thredUP ad was SO GOOD! THE MAKEUP, THE HAIR, THE FITS, ALL OF IT
in a loud whisper: "Rachel - Rachel - Rachel... You're so Amazing!" 💕
Absolutely loving the
✨Mod Merida✨
look in the Thred Up ad 💕
I was really into bubble letters as a kid. I got really creative with it, but I kept it to myself for the most part. I had this crush on this kid for years. All through middle school,. I had a wall in my room where I drew his name in creative ways. My father was a single dad. I can imagine the thoughts he had seeing some strange boys name all over my wall.
8:17 "...so I just tucked it away and pretended that it didn't exist; which, coincidentally, is how I solve pretty much any problem in my life." TOO FREAKING REAL!!!!! Love the video, Rachel!
With the cute hat you look like Little Debbie....which is so, so adorable!
I feel like “hu-wuuuuh?” is the official sound of Rachel Maksy and it brings me much joy when I hear it. ❤️
Thredup better start giving you codes for people who have already made 50 orders, I feel so excluded 🤣
Lololol for real!
Hello fresh too! Like hey I’ve been with your for this long can o get another deal too or do I have to cancle again to get a coupon 🤦♀️
Your description of your new aesthetic as a forest NPC is so accurate and just 😘🤌
13:45
Gives a raucous round of applause for such a splendid amount of self progression! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I feel like this could work for a Disney bound! Queen of hearts or a playing card soldier from Alice in Wonderland. ❤
Does anyone else want to see Rachel’s hubby’s reaction to this outfit?
I want to see his reaction to literally everything she makes. That would be such a fun outro. (Although I don't want to give up the bloopers & random singing/Frodo/bad puns)
At 27:19, as an Italian subscriber, hearing that “Scusi.. Scusi signore!” warmed my heart and made me happy 🥹❤️
For the detachable skirt you can wear it as a cape instead! If you add a hood it could be a valentine’s little red riding hood lol
Yassss, Rachel has posted a new video. This weekend can officially begin 😎🎊🎉
No one is talking about how Rachel can just perfectly freehanded those hearts 😍
Your Sean story is as relatable to me as having to go look for the Kraft paper. Chaos vortex solidarity fistbump.
My 6th grade obsession was a guy named Andy, and the way I showed my adoration was to thwap him on the back of the head every time I “had” to sharpen a pencil in the ancient table-mounted sharpener behind him. He eventually asked me to stop. Sorry I was a butthole, Andy.
My 6th grade obsession got told “I still love you” after he broke his front teeth in a fall. He gave me a look that would have put me 6 feet under. ❤️🩹
You can really tell how how having more time changes the final product! So happy to see you love the item you created so much! It looks amazing on you
I'm so vicariously proud of you for deciding to adjust the heart bust!
One glance at the thumbnail and I love this dress already! 😭💙
Also I feel like. 6th grade Rachel deserves a hug omg. 💔
Please give your ironing board some LOVE and some oil! 😂
LOVE the dress and all those hearts! Just want to also say thank you. It's because of you I now buy patterns even if i only like part of it, and not afraid to mix and match with a completely different pattern, creating something totally unique. Thank you, you're inspirational.
Wait, ironing boards don’t Have to make a death screech? 😂😂
@@ellisaclumpner2858 WD40. It will change your life!
I was actually going to use some WD40 on it last week. But knowing Rachel Maksy’s makes the same noise made me feel better about it 😂
You are totally beautiful!!! My mama was a stunner in the 40s and you look like all the photos of that era. Fabulous Dahling!
it turned out SO FREAKIN CUTE! and i honestly love how the overskirt came out, the slightly gap in the front looked really intentional to me and its fun seeing the different layer underneath. i am also, like the rest of your rabid fans, in awe that you can hand draw *that many hearts* and have them all looking so closely related. mine could never 😂
I adore Valentine’s Day aesthetics so much
This dress is adorable and it feels very in character that you have to balance that out with creepy (though honestly, I thought it was cute!) story and "luring unsuspecting deep sea creatures to their deaths"
So stinking cute! We got a Binx cameo even. And may I say, you have a very even hand when drawing hearts. I am impressed. 👏
Sponsor Rachel has the CUTEST eye makeup!! We love a graphic liner moment
The Sean story was far too relatable, I was the same way as a 12 year old, spying on my crush, locking myself in his room every time I was at his house, being an overall stalker/sociopath, etc
Woo-ing habits aside, the fact he immediately trashed her valentine is like, idk, worthy of him being egged and floured in the parking lot
Rachel, so glad to see you well and content. The dress is sooooo cute!
Thank you for showing when you struggle with things! I'm self taught and found making a half circle skirt really hard. I could not work out how to get a straight waistband on a curved waist, turns out the answer was just "cut notches in"... Ah well, always learning!
Thank you for being such a shining light for those of us with anxiety. We deal with a lot but have to mask on some days.
I just want you to know that I was SOOO excited you asked for a "HUZZAH" that I ended up starting too early like 4 times ❤️ SOOO, many HUZZAH's for finding stuff in your own craft horde
I Huzzah along with you. I also Huzzah in public and it never fails to confuse the locals. 🙃
HUZZAH
My 'huzzah' almost woke up Mister Husband. Whose growing used to such thing happening on Friday nights.
- Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Can I just mention real quick how cute Rachel looks with that hair length? Really compliments her lovely face too
I'm very impressed with how well you free handed the hearts and kept them consistent!!
Your Valentine's Day Story brought me back twenty years for sure! I made them for my classmates by hand for 4th, 5th and 6th grade. I can only image how you must have felt. This dress came out just as awesome as all them do. Hope all is well down in Massachusetts from up here in Vermont!
I've been here for years and I think this is one of my top favorite episodes. It's the most flattering thing I can remember you making. You are getting to be a darn good little seamstress.💖
You have improved so much with bodices they look so fun. Also you could put on the overskirt for a sassy side slit instead of one in the middle.
What a wonderful gift to receive this video notification on a blustery February day where I feel like hiding under the covers. Love this dress
This is the cutest dress I've ever seen! Great job!!
Anyone else listened to Rachel saying her legs were like poles then went back and had a look? And then decided that her legs are perfect and there’s absolutely nothing wrong?
Yep. They just look like legs. It’s weird the stuff only yourself can see...
What an absolutely lovely dress!! Love that you fixed the heart on the bust, and that you continue to learn and grow in your skills so consistently.
Now this is the kind of video I’m subscribed for!
Watching Rachel do literally anything.
Okay... How are all those hearts almmost identical to each other. What is this witchcraft!?!?! Love this, it came out soo cute! Love the "skirt cape!"
the final reveal was so stinking cute!! 💝 (yes i've officially adopted the rachel maksy vocab into my everyday life). i also love all the little details in your videos, from the candy hearts in the title cards to the background music. not only are you a talented designer/seamstress but you're also a fantastic storyteller ♥keep up the great work and have a happy feb 14th :)
This is so stinking cute, been watching for a few years now and your projects have just become more phenomenal
Rachel, just saying, since the beginning, you put sun in my weeks with everything you do! Thank you for being there!
One of my favorite projects! Your version will forever live rent free in my head now
Yes! The Chaos Tornado Goddess that Rachel Masky has returned! 😁😊😄
I felt your struggle way too hard when you were trying to figure out the way you had to turn and fold the fabric for the detachable skirt 🤣
You look so cute in this dress ! The "you're not the worst" sign is also iconic :') ! It inspires me to draw you 😊
You doing the maths is like actual footage of me making our tree skirt this year.
