Rachel's sort of "bah humbug" meh about Christmas makes me feel so much better about my feelings about the holiday as well. It's so important to validate that not every holiday is for everyone. 💜
Wasn't expecting that but it was nice. I love the holidays but I appreciate her 00s-emo-all-year-round-halloween-lover dislike of a cheery Christmas haha
A very Meh-rry Day to you all! I think a lot of us aren’t really feeling cheery this year because of looming financial stress, so we’ll just Meh our way through it and enjoy the pie. 😁
First time ever watching this person as a youtuber and I'm super struck with how genuine she is. Maybe it's because I'm high, but I don't sense much overacting. I am getting serious true light vibes.
Also pro tip for wrapping yourself- tape one edge of the plastic wrap (and then later the duct tape) to a door frame, hold the other side parallel to your torso and then wind yourself into it. (like you’re doing the yo-yo swing dance move but your partner is a sheet of PVC)
I don't recall if this is a thing within the show, but the vibes of this are very reminiscent of Dimension 20's A Crown of Candy! (Game of Thrones but what if they were all animate food).
This was such a creative use of different materials, I love it! The caulk especially looks just perfect for icing. Since you seemed to be struggling a bit with the piping, for future reference: put that larger plastic piece (the coupler) inside of the piping bag before putting in the icing/caulk. You can then screw on the piping nozzle of your choice. This should make it so you have better control over the bag and don't have to worry about it oozing out above the nozzle! Apologies if someone else brought this up earlier, watching this just gave me vivid flashbacks to my own piping-bag-learning-curve struggles 😆
Love how this came out. Ooooo, dessert dress idea for Spring! Strawberry Shortcake dress! Cake bodice with strategically strawberries and the icing/whipped cream in between. Not sure about the skirt, maybe pink underskirt with 2 layers of tulle and then a lace overskirt with the back bustle? Gathered skirts, all of them. Abby, Morgan and Bernadette can help with the bustle part. ;) Almost forgot...Merry ,merry and Happy, happy to you & yours. Thank you for sharing your life. Can hardly wait for more.
I know that Rachel gets stressed when she has to take another week on a project, but I really love when she does because it means we're gonna get something truly special. I think the extra time is worth it, and now I wanna make gingerbread clothes! This turned out so cute!
As we've learned this year, a tiny waist is an illusion. If there is a way to make your hips bigger/flouncier, that makes the waist look smaller. Hip pads ahoy! This looks so adorable!
the bodice came out so cute! I've used caulking on fabric before and it's so fun! (if a bit messy.) If you ever wanted to do this sort of thing again but didn't want white "icing" you can totally buy clear silicone caulk and add some oil paint to it. :) I did this for cosplay, I had to make a hat that looked like melting chocolate, and it worked like a charm.
If you drape the ruching over your form, it might take the shape of your bodice better :) Or just thrift an actual bra and cannibalize the cups to put the ruching over, then the shapes are already built for you. The corset turned out so fantastic!! Toasty cookie cuteness.

I always used to hate winter and Christmas but I started incorporating more aspects of hygge into my life during this season and it’s really helped me look forward to it. Basically just intentionally engaging in lots and lots of warmth, blankets, oversized fluffy sweaters, candles, sweets/hot cocoa, and knitting. I also reserve some of my favorite movies and shows to only this time of year, so that helps a lot too.

New character unlocked - a ginger bread fairy! Gorgeous! 😍 And with a freshly baked mince pie, a cup of tea, my cat acting like a heating pad and a new Rachel video, I can't imagine a better start for any day but especially for Christmas Eve.
Saw the IG post an hour ago and was like “‘amazing this is the exact type of hair tutorial I want”. We also get an entire costume build??? The true gift of Christmas tbh
A tip from a daughter of a ballet customer and ballet dancer herself, one of the best ways to gather tulle if you want to use a machine (and the way that is used in tutu making) is to zig-zag over fishline cut to the length you need, gather it by pulling on your line (tie loops at the end). Then you can optionally steam your gather, pin your tulle into place, zig-zag over the same stitch line for the gather, cut the line out at the end and pull it out. and do this for all your layers. This is an especially useful tip if you are trying to recreate a romantic (or platter) ballet tutu, which is sewn in tiered layers onto a basque to give it volume. I can be intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is one of the fastest ways to gather tulle, and can even be done with multiple pieces of tulle stacked together.
Would you ever consider videos where you revisit old projects and take another pass at them or put more time into them to refine them into items you'll like more or to see how you've skilled up?
I'm old to this channel and I'm thankful for you too. If you want to take on projects that take a couple of weeks or longer - you go right ahead! Have a great Holiday!
I have no idea how I got here, but I am glad I did. That was a lot of fun! I like the way you approach experimenting. Finding a way that works is so satisfying. It turned out SO NICE! And your hair at the end was A+ So much fun!
Another sewing project that may help getting into the Christmas spirit would be making a costume from the nutcracker!(only slightly more wearable lol) I’ve been wanted to make one for a while myself
"Cowgirls, cowboys, and cowtheys". I love you Rachel! As a nonbinary person I love when youtubers include us. It makes me feel so seen and valid. Love you :)
Artificial snow spray works wonders on adding texture to foam! Sealing it with gloss ensures the snow doesn’t flake off. I can’t wait to see your next project! 📏📍✂️🧵🪡💖
Heat gun on the foam and then press sand paper into it before it cools would likely work well. I've done thew fake leather thing with crumpled foil on hot foam. I like the idea of that spray snow thing, though, and shall keep that in mind for later.
Yes to Rachel taking time to work on projects! 👏👏👏 If you want ‘filler’ videos you could make mending videos or where you revisit projects and tweak them. Would also go with the recycle mend and make do. Happy holidays to the whole Maksy household ❤🎄🎁✨
As someone who is also not a fan of Christmas, I relate to how your feeling so bad, congratulations on using you creativity and skill to make this weird holiday more fun and whimsical, gorgeous work!
Christmas is literally the most whimsical holiday. I like Halloween better, and even I can say Christmas has Halloween beat when it comes to whimsy lol.
I think those icing bag tips go inside the bag. I think a brown gingerbread house looking skirt would look super cute under the white apron dress number you just made !
Omg Rachel you tried it on fabric!! I met you at Fan Expo over the summer and we chatted about how I applied your technique to fabric patterning and now I feel so fulfilled you tried it!!
when you came out in the reveal I literally gasped like hands over mouth I was literally in shock like that is the cutest thing I've ever seen in my LIFE, and the brown and cream color scheme is so cute as well ??? and those sassy little hip frills??? girl this is certified cee-you-enn-tee this is such a triumph
dunno if it's just me, but i feel like you're getting a lot better at complimenting yourself and being proud of your work ! it's lovely to see you being proud of something even with (or maybe because of) the little mistakes
the fact i'm almost positive i've seen rachel make a bodice without the plastic wrap method in a subsequent video is so funny, like this was the last straw
Oh man, this is so whimsical and beautiful! Literally who else would think of or actually make a masterpiece like this?! This is perfect proof of what a wonderful artist you are!
Make things that look like food. Hell yeah, 100%, all for this! As a cake decorator my favorite thing is making cakes that look like non-cake food, every summer we make hamburgers and every fall we have turkey dinners.
The gingerbread looks soo good. If you turned the skirt around and had the opening in the front it would look awesome too. Kinda like an 18th century gown type deal with the petticoat and open gown.
I genuinely prefer that you take as much time as you want on the projects. I do not care how frequent the videos are, I would rather you not feel too rushed and stressed and instead get to be creative and play around to get things how you want them.
This is the cutest thing!!! And that sleeve technique is just what I needed. I’ve been scheming up a flowy, summer dress, and this is exactly the kind of sleeve I need so I can use my hoard of thrifted floofy scraps!
As soon as you mentioned Princess Peach, my brain immediately thought about how cool it would be if you recreated her, or the other Mario princesses’, dresses with your unique style! Obviously you don’t have to, and I’m not even sure if you’re actually a fan of Mario, but I can’t stop thinking about it now 😯
That dress makes me so happy. Perhaps off camera, find tulle or lace or organza or anything and finish the back of the Gingerbread Dress. The dress deserves to be seen from all angles! Those curtains and runners show just how many amazing finds existing in a thrift store. Have a good week off.❤
Too cute! Advice from a cake decorator for next time... the coupler goes inside the bag before the frosting, the icing tip and screw cap connect to the coupler on the outside... it sandwiches the pastry bag in between the coupler and tip and will make your life so much easier.
for future foam texturing, if your foam is soft enough you can use some balled up tin foil to press indents into the foam! i do that to make faux foam stone (say that three times fast lmao) also darkening the edges of the cookie bodice was GENIUS!!!!
I feel like the skirt not reaching all the way around gives it a maid type vibe and I think it's super cute like that! Especially with all the lace playing it up
Thank you for this. My family is falling apart before my eyes and after a horribly emotional christmas eve this has helped me feel more normal again. I needed this.
Its lowkey comforting to see such a lively, upbeat person also not like christmas. Makes me feel like Im not just a total downer in general. Im full of whimsy, just not for this holiday 😅
THE DRESS LOOKS SO GOOD! You’ve really improved over the years, I think it would be fun for you to do a remake of one of your older projects with everything you’ve learned happy holidays!
I totally called it.. I was thinking she'd do something wearable but recyclable and she did... Also, that first comment with a question, "Santa?", totally did that one too, except mine was at work and involved paper lanterns that can fly. By the way, Merry Christmas y'all....
Love that you took a second week for this. I get wanting to stay on schedule to not disappoint followers/please the algorithm, but I'm absolutely fine with the occasional 'no video this week, this project needs more time to bake' (pun intended).
Oh my god I love how the corset bit turned out it looks so amazing with the icing, I’ve seen people do tricks like that but it’s so amazing seeing how well it turned out. I’m glad you took time to finish this. Have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Thank you for validating not only my meh holiday spirits, but also my tendency to use whats around rather then go to the store AND the very real amount of still packed items from a move over a year ago - all within the first 5 mins of this video. You're the best.
What a fun project :) As far as the fit, it might help to take 1/2-1 inch off the bottom of the bodice. It kinda looks like if you could pull the whole thing down a bit, it would fit perfect~ The finishings came out so cool!
This is so fricking cute! I admit, at the beginning I was like "ummm foam why not stiff fabric what sand and caulk what is happening" but it worked. It's adorable.
Rachel Maksy - genius extraordinaire and mad scientist! I loved this look. I guess we just chip away at projects until the look emerges! Merry Christmas to you all! Give Frodo kisses from me.

Whenever I am in a sewing slump, I go to Rachel's channel and watch an inspiring project like this to make me do that first step for my own project. Thanks, Rachel 👍
Things I learnt from this video: 1) I need some kinetic sand 2) I will be making my own armor in the near future 3) when someone sings "pour some sugar on me", I will have no choice but to sing the following line. Have a good Xmas and New year everyone.
Costumer's tip: if you're worried about the finished product looking flattering, don't worry about bringing the waist in - build the hips and bust out. That way you can get a cute silhouette but still be able to breathe lol The gingerbread corset is freaking adorable! I might need to try this the next time my own seasonal saddies loom over Christmas
It’s so cool how you made the pattern out of duct tape and used a table runner, curtains, and kinetic sand to make the final piece. It’s like a whole craft room in one dress! I LOVE it ✨
Rachel, I absolutely love this dress. I would love to see a matching foam hand bag to match this look. I agree with other comments. Maybe next year revamp this dress with gum drop buttons or some candy hair pins. Either way you did such a good job. Lady Krampus would be pretty freaking cool tool....Ooh Krampus with a vintage touch! My god that would be so cool to see your creative twists on those! Cant wait to see what else you can create in 2023! Wishing you the best of luck in the new year!
Rachel you are crazy talented. That dress is insanely pretty. I hope you make more in depth sewing tutorials in the future. And you don't have to force yourself to be festive for any holiday. I know all of my Jewish coworkers that live in america hates Christmas and Muslims in my country does not celebrate it or force themselves to enjoy it.
This is a super cute project!! Im curious why the autumn leaves dress bodice pattern wasnt the first choice. That came out amazingly and could probably modify easily. Also think a little brown in the skirt like a trim around rhe bottom and the ruffled parts would be cute too
Textured spray paint (they sell that) or the baking soda/chalk paint hack would have also achieved the cookie texture. Also in case you want to use an icing bag again, the nozzle itself goes inside the bag and there's typically a ring you screw on the outside to keep it in place. It turned out pretty cute all the same
Haallloo!!!! Just letting you know that better captions will be up hopefully within a few hours. K ENJOY I LOVE YOU BYE

Heat gun on the foam and then press sand paper into it before it cools would likely work well. I've done thew fake leather thing with crumpled foil on hot foam. I like the idea of that spray snow thing, though, and shall keep that in mind for later.
Yes to Rachel taking time to work on projects! 👏👏👏
If you want ‘filler’ videos you could make mending videos or where you revisit projects and tweak them.
This 2weeks project is so much more interesting than those stressed 1 week projects. I love it
I think those icing bag tips go inside the bag. I think a brown gingerbread house looking skirt would look super cute under the white apron dress number you just made !
This dress could fit in perfectly with the gingerbread people in barbie nutcracker. I didn't know I live for that vibe, but I live for that vibe
It's SO cute! You did an amazing job!! (And maybe an oversized bow in the back will fix up that blank spot? Perhaps a candy cane striped one?)
Rachel please make yourself a gingabeb crown 💜
Oh yes Princess Gingerbread she NEEDS a crown
Pleaseeeeeeeee
Don't you mean gingebeb cown?
Adorable finish on the clothes and now I would love to see a whole can can Candyland lineup.
dunno if it's just me, but i feel like you're getting a lot better at complimenting yourself and being proud of your work ! it's lovely to see you being proud of something even with (or maybe because of) the little mistakes
Okay this turned out criminally cute. I think the hip swoopies really do it. And the abundance of lace.
the fact i'm almost positive i've seen rachel make a bodice without the plastic wrap method in a subsequent video is so funny, like this was the last straw
I'm so glad you relate with the unpleasantness with christmas stuff. I just feel like the grinch as soon as Halloween is over
I just happen to be baking gingerbread cookies when this video popped up and I got super excited! Its a Rachel Maksy CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!!!
As soon as you mentioned Princess Peach, my brain immediately thought about how cool it would be if you recreated her, or the other Mario princesses’, dresses with your unique style! Obviously you don’t have to, and I’m not even sure if you’re actually a fan of Mario, but I can’t stop thinking about it now 😯
there is a whole trend of food that look like real stuff. Now Rachel is starting a trend of *CLOTHES THAT LOOK LIKE FOOD* and I am here for it!!
That dress makes me so happy. Perhaps off camera, find tulle or lace or organza or anything and finish the back of the Gingerbread Dress. The dress deserves to be seen from all angles! Those curtains and runners show just how many amazing finds existing in a thrift store. Have a good week off.❤
So much fun! You’re a joy to watch always and yes to “full ass-ing” things. ❤️👍
Too cute! Advice from a cake decorator for next time... the coupler goes inside the bag before the frosting, the icing tip and screw cap connect to the coupler on the outside... it sandwiches the pastry bag in between the coupler and tip and will make your life so much easier.
for future foam texturing, if your foam is soft enough you can use some balled up tin foil to press indents into the foam! i do that to make faux foam stone (say that three times fast lmao)
also darkening the edges of the cookie bodice was GENIUS!!!!
I am absolutely obsessed with the outfit in the intro
I think this is my favorite dress she’s ever made! Such a beautiful, festive and fantastical look!
My heart literally exploded when you started with the ballet inspo and then the FINISHED PRODUCT WAS SO GOOD OMG
1,000,000!!?? Girl I just saw your subscriber count! 🥳 yippee yea!! Thank you for being my weekly serotonin boost for the past 5 + years. Here's to an amazing 2023. 🥂
This is one of the cutest things I have seen you make on your channel and it was everything I needed today ❤ Also your book dress is one of my favourite things ever and it’s how I found your channel! Never stop talking about it 📚
Whenever I am in a sewing slump, I go to Rachel's channel and watch an inspiring project like this to make me do that first step for my own project. Thanks, Rachel 👍
Wow, the texture really turned out so amazing! Love it 🥰
That "for you" is so menacing in the best way 🥰
Things I learnt from this video:
1) I need some kinetic sand
2) I will be making my own armor in the near future
3) when someone sings "pour some sugar on me", I will have no choice but to sing the following line.
Have a good Xmas and New year everyone.
Warning: Kinetic sand is very dangerous if eaten. Please keep it away from pets and kids.
I love that Rachel took extra time so she could have the dress be as close to her ideal. It's so flicking CUTE!
I really appreciate you showing the experimental process! This turned out amazing ❤
Costumer's tip: if you're worried about the finished product looking flattering, don't worry about bringing the waist in - build the hips and bust out. That way you can get a cute silhouette but still be able to breathe lol
The gingerbread corset is freaking adorable! I might need to try this the next time my own seasonal saddies loom over Christmas
Love it! Even if you don’t really love Christmas, I feel like you delivered the content we all deserved.
This is such a clever idea and it turned out sooo cute! I’m shook the moon sand worked, how cool is that? Can’t wait to see what you make next year!
Adorable! and we are NOT tired of your book dress, it's one of our favorite episodes.
Happy holidays Rachel! Enjoy the lovely northern hemisphere winter!
This is STINKING cute
Always love the use of things in ways that they were never intended to be used.
Inspiring as always, your imagination is impeccable!
I loved this video and the final creation so much! From a fellow winter blues girly, this video was a bright spot in my week.Thank you!
Also think a little brown in the skirt like a trim around rhe bottom and the ruffled parts would be cute too
I thought Rachel would continue the dark brown "gingerbread" into the skirt. It's very cute as-is, but it could also use extra dessert pizzazz.
