You: Bats are too sparkly. Turn them inside out.
My little goth heart: MOAR DISCO BATS.
sometimes i wonder if people realize that the reason that that tiktok strawberry dress is so expensive isn’t because the designers are greedy but because the dresses are like. completely handmade by lirika matoshi in kosovo. like i need people to understand this PLEASE
SAME I was just gonna comment something like this, like I hate when companies like Free People or Urban Outfitters or whatever sell items made by like child slaves for $500 dollars but Lirika posts videos of her studio all the time with her team of well-paid women knitting every Cloud sweater and painstakingly sewing jewels onto blouses one at a time.... I get why people assume that it's just another greedy factory company if they're just learning about it now, since that's the norm, but it makes me angry to see her get hate from people who see all of that careful labor-intensive work and then STILL complain about the price
also, they make the fabrics and patterns themselves
so ur paying for
-coming up with the idea for the fabrics
-making the fabrics (which are all quality, so $$)
-making the pattern
-making the dresses
-decent wages equivalent to the work done
-shipping probably
@@MsUschi123 who gives a shit about dolce and gabanna? The only reason they have clout is because theyve been around longer than newer designers.
Rachel just proved it takes hours to make the dress and if you don't spend money for quality fabrics it's not going to be comfortable. It didn't cost her $40 to make it because where is the valuation for the time put in. I would consider sewing for people but so many people don't want to pay for my time and effort. Fast fashion has killed peoples perception that we do have to pay for the time that it takes to make things.
"I'm going to make....a mock-up."
WHO ARE YOU?? Lol
@@JudyCZ I was going to ask if Morgan had infected Rachel with her love of mock-ups Lol.
Kind of disappointed that you didn’t change „several bad puns later“ into „several bat puns later“ 🦇
"My boobs don't look like that" while laugh crying is the most relatable thing I've ever seen 💙
@@Saskatchetooner Got it in one! Surgical tape and photoshop can work wonders.
“There’s something that orange and black does to me... on a spiritual level”
My dad would agree. He has collected about 200 children’s Halloween books and reads all of them every year.
I know without a doubt he must have Georgie in his collection. If he wants recommendations he should get Space Witch, not very well known in my opinion. I looove that book and the art is so great. Now I totally want my own halloween book collection! What a great idea
"I will start with a mockup" words never expected to be heard on this channel
p.s. Batman and Robin: But Make It Vinatge
the level of rewatchability on this video is insane
December 2022 here. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it, to be honest.
“There’s just something that orange and black does to me on a spiritual level..”
SAME.
I love the way Editing Rachel looks like she's stuck up in the cold, miserable garret, poring over the reams of footage
the second it hits September, Rachel really says “Ah yes, Halloween is now”
She would fit in the Eurovision bubble, the moment May hits we're like that.
Imagine an acorn dress!
Green ground with sheer brown fabric with lots of acorns on it. Hell yeah.
Oh, that would be so cute - and could definitely be made to match a more hobbity aesthetic as well.
I may be really late to this but I am totally feeling the acorn dress ideas. I absolutely will be making one 🥰
Okay, random thought: sailor moon, but make it vintage! Rachel! Dooooo it!
Rachel: holds the poison apple cup with pumpkin coffee
Me: watching this while holding the same cup full of hot chocolate "... excellent"
Me, holding the same cup full of tea while watching this: “The cult trifecta is complete.”
ok but imagine the possibilities! A sun dress, a snowflake dress, a star dress, a Christmas tree dress! pls do a christmas one!
Lirika Matoshi does a ton of star dresses, that's kind of the brands thing, and they are gorgeous
I’m very disappointed there was no “batwinging it” pun when talking about the bodice.
yes, people, Halloween season starts in September or it's all year round.
And love the dress!! It's the bat dress!
Given Xmas stuff is already in the stores, hell yeah to Halloween starting in September!
@@thisistheaccountname lol here is Aus is usually september and I have started seeing it already, which is bad enough, August would be much much worse!
Just coming here to tell you I saw someone wearing a recreation of this dress in the wild this year. You're a legend.
Look it look- it’s fricken bats. I *love* halloween.
Okay but we need a *goblincore one with sparkly mushrooms and like a little frog 🥺
Me: oh wow a late upload. Wonder why?
Rachel: I'm giving myself three days!
Oh noooooo
One of these days I'm going to make a sewing/costube bingo card and "Vastly underestimating the amount of time the project will take" is going to be the free space.
I love the apparently universal reality that sewing machines are sentient, severely bipolar beings here to mess with us. Machines feeling good today? Wonderful! Machine is in a "mood" "oh you're eating all of my fabric? Sure. Nothing I can do about it"🤣🤣
LITERALLY. Mines named Ghastly Bespoke (6 billion points to whoever's guesses that reference without googling) and I swear I catch myself babying him at times. Like "be nice today", "stop eating the fabric please" and cleaning him all the time 😂😂

"I'm assuming some people just go braless with this..." *laughs in DD*
i think the last time i willingly left the house without a bra i was still in high school. i've jumped from a full C/small D to an H in the 20 years since then
@@Keeperoffyre Last time I left the house without a bra, I cheated. I was wearing a corset/bodice tank over my t-shirt.
@@Z.A.M.1359 If I ever don't feel like wearing a bra I just throw on a hoodie.
I don't think I've gone braless since I was about 11. 😳
It just feels wrong. Even if I could, I wouldn't. Size E's need to be held in place, otherwise they'll be down to your stomach. 🤣
I’m a 41 DD, and I left my house last night in a my new pj crop top, to go get a waffle cone, realized that the crop top is too small to cover all of the “goods” cut to me grabbing napkins as a blanket in the drive through.
You should “but make it vintage”, the Sanderson sisters.
The Sandersons are already.... pretty vintage. Dust, cobwebs, centuries old hairstyles- they vintage. Vintage witch on lock.
Rachel: *puts a stuffed bra on her dress form so it matches her bust measurement*
My mind: *blown*
Its a handy tip! I started doing it many moons ago when I realized my adjustable dress form wasn't THAT adjustable. You can also put undies/nylons on the form and stuff those as well for your hips/bum. Side note: I got into the habit of covering my form when not in use after a truly mortifying dinner party. She now has a caftan she wears when she isn't "working"
@@PacakeQueen thats what drag queens do on rupauls drag race sewing challenges!
I pin a small pillow to the back of the dress form because it doesn't have a butt, but I do 🙈
I have to remember to cover my dress form because I had to do the same thing, but am too lazy to not just leave it there xD. Padding out dress forms is a pretty common practice for sewing though! Definitely gets a little saucy sometimes though lol
Honestly, Rachel Maksy is so motivating to me - I don't have a lot of space in my house so I cut literally everything sitting on my office floor. I feel seen haha!
Can you make Sophie’s Dress from Howl’s Moving Castle sometime?

As soon as I saw the thumbnail I was like "YAASSSSS! Rachel Maksy is queen!"
the little 'dis is wot i have' when she's showing the poofy sleeves is one of the most adorable things I have ever heard
Really glad you referenced “it’s frickin bats” in the bloopers. Had to be done
"For this top, I will start with a mockup material."
I'm glad I was seated. xD
@@rubylace9963 a mockup is scrap material or cheap cotton used to test the pattern to make sure it fits before you cut out your expensive nice fabric and find out that you made a terrible mistake with the pattern and it doesn't fit. She rarely uses a mockup, but it is highly advised to do so.
Me reading the title: I don’t think anyone will ever really understand me as much as Rachel does
That bottom skirt ruffle is crazy dedication!! Frodo's mlem interlude is the perfect example of all sweet doggos. The "no read scritches please" is exaclty the thing our pupper does too. The Benedict Cucumber moment was absolutely hilarious. That and the pool floaties are possibly the fav comedic part of the video. I may no be crazy about Halloween (which I say on the internet a the risk of being moidered) but this is so cute and I think you really did nail the look of the strawberry dress. Annnnd your hair done up curly and short is so adorable and you pull it off magnificently.
so true. the benedict cackledoodle moment had me laughing way more than it should

"Did I have to share that bit?, probably not but I dont wanna lie to you."
Mad respect 😂
the truth is no one's boobs look like that without special help from something.
"We're about diving into projects and thinking about it later." I have NEVER related so hard to a statement. Every single sewing project I've ever done comes with a halfway point where I realize I should have put way more thought into it. 😬
The dress is “Fangtastic” & so “Bat to the Bone”. Definitely a dress I would “Hang out in”.... ok, I’m done with the puns. Srsly love the dress! TFS 👍
Movies / shows to watch (top 5)
1) Halloween 🎃 2) AHS - Coven 3) Beetlejuice 4) Bram Stokers Dracula 5) Penny Dreadful
I feel like September, October, and November Rachel is a whole other version of Rachel, and we love to see it :)
I'd love to see her make a Mabel sweater, or even one of the dresses the girls wore to the Northwest party!
Or how about a Make it Vintage for either Morticia Addams or Lilly Munster?
@@thebelievers11 tbh the only ravenclaws i can think of are cho and luna.............. at least im a slytherin and i can find merch easily lol

beautiful! These made me realize I never want to make a dress, I can see why the designer charges what she does
Rachel: cuts and pins fabric completely unobstructed
Me: WHERE'S FRODO????
The sleeves probably didn't need to lined with orange. So feel free to remove the felt during revision.
Lovely take on the dress! 😍 When it comes to the 'slippery' fabrics (fabrics spawned from Satan) I personally use tissue paper underneath when sewing on a machine. It glides the fabric smoother and easily rips away without tainting the threads. As a fellow, spooky gal I can't wait to bring the orange colours out this fall! 🦇🍁
dont mind me just saving this for when i make my version of it (bumblebee dress) because they are without a doubt the beautiful spawns of satan
More like Spawn of Satin, am I right? (Don’t mind me, just over here making puns 11 months too late.)
arsenic and old lace is definitely my favorite halloween movie! the perfect mix of vintage and spoopy!
Glad I’m not the only person who went “It’s September so now I will pull out all of the spooky decorations”
I had a bad day on August 29 so I started then haha. But I usually save a few for October.
Hannah Craig I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad day! Hope things are better!
Me: oh that would probably work great with a pumpkin-y coloured soft chiffo-
Rachel: *gets the shiniest, slipperiest polyester organza known to man*
Oh boy here comes trouble. There's a reason even seasoned dressmakers despise that stuff.
I wore one (!!!) organza dress in my entire life and I hold so much hatred for the fabric. I don’t know why it tore, but now the skirt is shredded enough that I just wear it as a zombie costume. I couldn’t even imagine sewing with it.
me being dumb as always just bought an cute organza but i have sewed only twice *face palm*
Honestly it's a testament to her talent and determination that she not only came up with an impressive take on a not-simple dress, but did it using actual demonic fabric. I feel like organza is one of those lessons all sewers learn at some point - it looks so pretty and shimmery you get drawn in, then before you know it you're in ripping, slippery, itchy hell!
And using a pumpkin color chiffon would prob have left less of a Walmart seasonal Halloween decoration that you find on the floor on the middle of the aisle because organza is just. So. Shiny. and it looks tacky imo
I saw someone on tiktok design a 'blueberry dress' to fit their aesthetic which prompted me to draw my own design! I called it the citrus dress and it carried the same silhouette as the original but was yellow and covered with little orange, lemon and lime slices 😍
"I just want to be a spooky queen."
That's it. That's the whole entire frikkin mood. Done.
I thought you were going to do a poison apple “strawberry dress”. The bat black and orange strawberry dress came out epic.
My top 5 Halloween movies are in no particular order: 1.) Hocus Pocus 2.) Beetlejuice 3.) Practical Magic 4.) Ghostbusters 5.) The Monster Squad
Alternate title: Rachel actually makes a mock-up 🤯
I'm so glad to see a hot take on this dress that doesn't look like a Strawberry Shortcake cosplay. I love 🧡 what you've done with this idea! Can you do a winter version that's the strawberry dress...but snowflakes; your felt lining techniques will come in handy for the New England winter ❄️
Nice idea. But I don't think she would enjoy doing the same thing AGAIN (just with different fabrics). She was obviously fed up, which I totally get.
Can we just appreciate how much darn work Rachael puts into her videos for us..
Sadly some critics are just here to be ugly but I watch Rachel and it is not as easy as it look you are good Rachel no pretenses
I see the process of sewing is the same when there is a dog in the house haha. My doggie also loves to sit on fabric
The real nail-biter was whether Frodo was going to walk/sit/luxuriate on the pattern
they gotta because youre doing something, mine like to sleep on my fabric and then never move from it again
i don’t do sewing but my cat does love to dive into bed sheets when i’m trying to make my bed
I didn’t like the original nearly as much as I like your version! I feel like it is a perfect party dress for the season
Me: 2020 is awful, I’m so exhausted I can’t feel joy
Me when I saw this dress: Is this.. SEROTONIN?
Omg, this is fantastic! And I just love the way you make everything work in the reveal: the hair with the bats, the make up, the music and all the effort you put in your projects... you’re such an inspiration
"It's spooky time bitch" - Love It!! My favorite time of year. Way better than strawberries. Hands down, my favorite!
Get the book “Sew Many Dresses, Sew Little Time” for mix and match skirts and bodices

My skin started crawling as soon as she showed it I cannot stand the texture of organza
“Yeah see let’s talk skirt” I am DYING trying not to choke on my burger in a Freddy’s
anybody else think that the strawberry dress is, like, a modern version of Liesl's dress in the 16 Going on 17 scene in The Sound of Music?
Ahhh! Yea! I do like that it doesnt have ruffles on the bottom of the lilac dress, its gorgeous how it flares out and moves in that scene and how it looks wet as well. That dress should be more iconic than it is.
It's the same silhouette for sure, but in terms of style lines, there really isn't much, if anything, that hasn't been done at least once, so there's probably an earlier reference than SoM.
I do agree that dress is highly underrated. The volume of that skirt was absolutely perfect for the choreography. A perfect example of how design can enhance the storytelling experience in the right way; without the audience being aware of it.
No. They have virtually no style lines in common other than the fact they are dresses made of chiffon.
@Anna Breon similar length, silhouette, voluminous sleeves that gather above the elbow, and the piping detail on the bodice.
But, Liesl's dress does have three lines of piping, not two, no ruffle trim, and a different neckline, so I guess you're right, they're completely different except for the material. Good eye! /s
Your videos are so fabulous. I adore the retro music while we watch you sew; very nostalgic. Thank you
I have been seeing the strawberry dress everywhere, and I had been thinking of ways to make it GOTH! This is gorgeous!! 🖤🖤
I want to make one with a red lining and skull lace. Yeah, another project I won't get to because I'm poor 😐
Oooh red under black is so gorgeous, i would love to see that. Good luck if you do make it.
I thrifted a dark blue mosquito net with stars on it and some dark blue satin(max. 5 Euro in total). I think now it found its destiny..
Check out after Halloween 90% off sales...and lace tablecloths.
A circle could make the skirt, and an oblong for the bodice & sleeves.
A thrifted sheet works well for mock up fabric.
That ruffle pinning just showed us how you could easily have a thriving career as a ~hand model~
Corpse Bride, yes! I'd like to see you recreate Emily's wedding dress.
“Over the Garden Wall” is my fav. Roommate and I watch it every Halloween.
I had to rewind the video to make sure you actually said "mock-up." Who are you and what have you done with Rachel??? Also your dress is adorable, and I always enjoy your videos.
INCREDIBLE but imagine purple instead of orange
With purple it seems more gothy, with the orange it gives you Halloween vibes, thats why i prefer the orange more.
Would you make a moth man costume? Must be sexy and have wings. I was thinking cocktail dress style.

The strawberry dress just doesnt speak to me, BUT THIS SPEAKS TO ME DIRECTLY
Rachel: *makes the strawberry dress but Halloween version*
Me: *have trouble making a simple skirt*
Love the result! I would've left the orange part off the sleeves entirely when there wasn't enough fabric, but I've lived through a couple iterations of translucent sleeve fashion, so what was obvious to me may not have been something that occurred to you.
In the spirit of being “on trend”, I give this video a *chef’s kiss*

With the time you have spent ruffling and gathering, you might consider adding a ruffler foot to your sewing tool arsenal. The dress is adorable.
It's fantastic! Suggestion: When you add the lining, get bright orange. Take the felt out of the sleeves and replace with the new lining fabric.
