But how in the heck can you get air in, compress it, ignite it, and get it out with only two strokes? This episode of Science Garage gets into the mystery that is the 2 stroke engine!

I agree, but this wasn't specifically a motorcycle video nor do they have plans to. It's just that all modern 2-strokes are either used in chainsaws, lawnmowers, motorcycles, etc. and not cars.
@@motorpolitan8884 I know what you mean but as soon as I saw the notification I thought they made a video about motorcycles and later found out that it was actually a 4 stroke vs 2 stroke comparison video.. but I think there are a lot of people like me who are into both cars and motorcycles and would love to see donut media make an entire separate series based on motorcycles, similar to like science garage, up to speed, wheelhouse etc.

Just bought a new YZ250X and after riding 4 strokes for the past 5 or so years. I probably won't be getting another 4 stroke any time soon.

There are direct injection two cycle engines that burn equally as clean as a four cycle now and make more power for the same displacement. Plus with the direct injection 2 cycles they’re longer lasting than a 4 cycle cuz of less moving parts still. I would love to see you guys go further into depth on these engines as kinds an up to speed like you guys did with the LS if I remember correctly. However this was an excellent episode as always from Donut!

Diesel 2 strokes are in their own category. I was more curious about Husky and KTM bringing back their two stroke this year, but with fuel injection and an oil tank.
So the fuel and oil are injected separately? That would be kinda cool tbh.
@@ohnojt From what Ive read, you have a seperate oil tank. No longer need to carry oil to make premix gas. Further more the ECM can dial in how much oil and run it as from as little as 100 to 1 parts oil to gas. Etc for a cleaner burn.

powerband is different. It's actually opening a second chamber in the carby leading just above the piston to let more fuel and oxygen in. This actually leads to stress on gaskets. Thus the problems.

While they inherently don't last as long 2 strokes have come a long way in efficiency. Coming from the snowmobile world. I'm starting to see 10,000 miles on some of the sleds coming into the shop. with no engine work on them.
And imo, they're the front runners when it comes to turbos on 2 strokes
