    Both a friend and I are wanting to install this for IFS on a 98 runner and 95.5 Tacoma, great video. Some basic questions #1 it doesn’t lock when in 2wd right? #2 how is the reset when making small turns off-road? Would love to see a video of it performing!

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  4 роки тому +1

      If you are installing in the front, you don't need to worry to much about this making noise since the front will have ADD (only locks when in 4wd) or manual hubs. In the rear, on corners, make sure you don't give it too much throttle or it'll bang real hard.
      Video coming soon for locker action. I'm taking it to the snow very soon!

    2nd line: "Today I got a pretty exciting project...." and then hours of work, cursing, sweat, and (I'm sure) many tears later -- it looked more torturous than "exciting". Btw, I'm loving the flip flops--you're just missing the socks -- ah you know what I mean...haha
    Anyway, can you provide some feedback how you like this thing? Maybe make a follow-up video? I'm thinking of getting them for the rear, but worried about winter driving... Thanks!

      It’s been great. I’ve gone out in the snow and some sand and not too bad. Some tight turns bind it up but just a bit of muscle to overcome. I was worried about drivability but not too bad. Just no throttle on tight turns.

    I am getting ready to do the front manual hub lock conversion, lifting the suspension about three inches with old man emu coil springs and Bilstein shock absorbers on my 1996 Toyota 4Runner. I am also contemplating the installation of a "lunch box" type locker in the front differential, but I am being advised otherwise by "some people" because they said that a front locker would ruin my cv axles, when the 4X4 is activated, specially when turning.
    My question to you is, have you had any problem with the cv axles since you installed the locker? And if so, was the problem aliviated with the installation of the differential drop kit?
    I would appreciate your input and thanks for your time and your videos, they are very informative>

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  3 роки тому +5

      The spartan locker will cause binding but it has that ratcheting mechanism in there to allow it to unlock on turns. Just don't be accelerating too hard when you got that steering wheel turned as it'll cause a loud clunk. So far, I haven't experienced any of that daily driving. When it's up front, you have ADD keeping it disengaged so should be fine driving on road.
      Off roading, you just take it slow and you won't lose CV axles. It's the hopping that kills CVs. You'll have to get use to the clicking on turns in 4x4 but i've used my 4x4 in snow, rock, dirt and it's all been fabulous. I was regretting it at first but after I started using it, i realized it's not a huge issue at all. I used to drive on 2wd intentionally to avoid the loud bangs but it actually doesn't happen that often or at all to be honest.

    Has anyone tried removing the rear mount from the diff before trying to pull it out? I'm not sure if both mount bolts (one on the top and one on the bottom) can be accessed with the diff in place. If that works, you might not need to move the diff upward for the mount stud to clear the frame member. Just a thought. I'm getting ready to do this over the weekend.

    Question; I'm pretty sure I have a locker in the front of my 93 4 Runner. When I had it jacked up I locked in the hubs and both tires turned the same direction. Plus I think it has 5.29 Yukon gears because it has lots of power for a 3.0. My question is when it snows in my open diff Geo Tracker 4x4 I can just lock the hubs and drive through town and engage and disengage the transfer case into 4 hi and pop it out on dry pavement. Now in my 4 Runner with the locker how do I drive in town? Do I have to get out and lock hubs in every slippery spot? Or just hammer down clown.

      4wd is controlled via the ADD system. It will lock to the passenger side. That’s why your passenger side isn’t spinning on jack stands. The Spartan locker only engages on load so you won’t see it locked up front on jack stand. Take it to dirt and try it out. You’ll hear some clicking on turns

    Can't believe how much you're willing to not do on a project this size.
    I would really be checking tolerances. That could mean the difference between having to take it apart again and not having to. Those springs unseat in your carrier, and that's gonna SUCK.

      Been fine since!! I’ll be tearing it apart again for regear soon. I’ll be sure to check things when I do this

      @@PhoRunner I'm glad to hear that it's been good. Great video! For me though, the audio cut out for the last chunk. Like probably 20ish minutes. Just a heads up.

    How do you engage the locker? or is it always locked? and if so how's the low speed cornering in 2wd?

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  2 роки тому +1

      Throttle locks it up. Since it’s in the front, you can daily it since the front isn’t locked at all until 4wd is engaged

      @@PhoRunner should you suggest for me to install on my FJ60 rear?

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  2 роки тому

      I wouldn’t run these on the rear if it’s daily driven. It will ratchet a lot in city driving and may bind on turns

      @@PhoRunner so on front it is OK?

    • @PhoRunner
      @PhoRunner  2 роки тому

      Yeah since it won’t ratchet because passenger side will be free. Try to find an elocker axle and swap that baby in!
