Likes for the video. I just found out this was a thing today... and you not only explained why someone should do it but showed me how to do it. Thanks for the spot-on video.
I have a Tacoma , so when I do this , I will route hose into that little square storage box in bed of truck on passenger side. My 2019 does not have the box that is on driver side , like the 2016 and 2017 have. Great video 👍
Don't you want to use a two way breather at the top end? I thought that was the purpose of this mod is to allow the differential to freely breathe during negative pressure environments.
How about extending the breather for the transmission and transfer case? I haven’t found anyone with a video on this yet and looks like everyone forgets those.
@@rushthezeppelin They are not. You are thinking of the front differential. The transmission and transfer case don’t have an extension. There have been forum discussions on this but I’ve never seen someone actually do it. Looks like the best time to work on it would be when dropping the transmission for some reason in order to have the space to work on it.
Lol I've had mine for a month and I'm quickly growing the list myself. Seems like everyday I'm reading t4r and finding something new I need to at least check on mine.
That 4Runner is looking more badass and capable every video. I really love that you do these mods and videos with the average shade tree mechanic in mind. Some of the other content on channels is just unreasonable with prices and mods for the next SEMA show.
I really like the coverage of improvements you've made overtime to your 3rd gen! It's.never a dull moment on these videos with off-road shots outside, and performance mods inside the garage! Another cool thing is you sound alot like Tony Stark from Ironman! Lol. Coincidentally too, the 3rd gen's color sceme... This is so cool! 👍
Hey thanks so much. Apparently I do, had no idea. This comment has been coming up a lot lately so it must be some what true lol. Maybe I should name truck on a play of Iron man 😂
Great video, looks like a pretty straightforward mod thanks to your instructions. Just getting started off-roading and went through some fairly deep water for a bit today (definitely higher than my rear differential), so I'm looking at doing this mod sooner than later. My ignorant question - so the breather obviously allows for the "trapped" air to escape from the diff. Will placing the breather further away like this cause any issues? Thanks!
4Runner noob here, please treat me gentle.. Will this mod also help avoid the infamous diff fluid leak into the axle which eventually damages the wheel bearings/brakes? Or that issue is totally separate and/or is actually related to the axle seal?
No problem. Unfortunately no, that will be caused by axle seals. Not much you can do about it, they last quite a long time but will eventually need replacement.
I prefer your new location for the breather. I agree with you there's no need to to run it up to the gas fuel area. If you are in that deep of water best to abandon ship because it's going down. LOL!
Deep water adventures 😳,
Thank you for this video! This will be my next project

Thanks man. 👍
I have the same jacket!
great video
Hey, thank you.
Great video displaying all the procedures very clearly. Did not need 10 minutes or more to explain. Will be doing this soon. Thanks!
Thank you, be sure to give the video a thumbs up. Cheers 🤘
This is on my list!
Definitely do it 👍
It might be obvious to some. But to others, make sure you leave extra hose to compensate for the axle moving up and down.
100%
really enjoying your videos. lots of good, straight forward information.
keep it up!
Thank you

Thank you. I need to do my 20 Tacoma as well. Maybe Ill just do a video for it as well.
Weatherstrip keeps the water out of the vehicle. Now you know
My 4runner is squeezing grease past the cv boots on both the front wheels. I'm assuming that the front diff has a breather as well??? Thanks!

Pretty sure those are already extended up into the engine bay from the factory....

Great vid, quick and simple. Did you end up using all 5' of the trans cooler hose or did you trim any excess?
Thanks, ya i Trimmed a small amount.
@@Beacon_Offroad good to know. Thanks again!
Great video man. Very informative and definitely thinking of getting do a mod like this to my truck since I've been doing a lot of wheeling.
Definitely a good idea, especially if you end up going through creeks.
There is always something need to be fix or upgrade when owning a 3rd gen.

Can I just re-use the breather ? If not where do I get these parts

That's definitely the point. I try to think about everyone trying to do it at home.

I just got. 3rd gen with no rust super low miles and an Elocker. Maybe I should start making vids

Nope, it'll be good to go. Your factory front breather is already high. Never really understood why they do make it standard on the rear as well.
Ya I was thinking the same thing no need for me to go all the way to the filler... I don’t even wanna unsnap those stupid one use clips...
Haha don't, they suck.
Pays to route the breather into the cab or engine bay somewhere high up and away from water
It's extremely unlikely I'll ever need that. If water gets into the breather where I have it, I'll have waaaay bigger issues. Lol

@@Beacon_Offroad Ok I see, thank you 👍🏻
I've heard differently that sometimes the reason for the axle seals going bad is water getting into the dif.
Do you know the part numbers for the inner fender clips?

Hahaha definitely. We almost had that happen this past weekend. Next video!
The parts list links are dead unfortunately. Besides that thanks for the video
Great video, will be doing this mod myself some time. Would the same need to be done for the front diff and transmission and transfer case?
Thanks, no actually the front diff has a good vent into the engine bay already. You could double check its still on and connected.
