- After being a bit slack on the video front, I got the camera back out to film a quick day hunt with Yax on DOC land down in the Wairarapa.
We were hoping to shoot a deer over the dog but end up taking one at 215m on our walk out. - Спорт
Good stuff Boys! cool spot down there good to see a bit of game around cheers
Great to see you guys out for a hunt again. A few animals about too! Didn't take long for the camouflage to grow back either. Hope you guys still get to go out and they don't close the country down again. Keep up the fun vids!
Thanks mate, yeah fingers crossed we all stay out of lockdown.
Mean day out on the hill enjoyed that hunt bro was good to see a few pigs too thanks for putting in the effort mate
Cheers Joe, good to see you are smashing it and closing on the 10k subs.
Hay boys, another great vid.... any chance of a video on your choice in what makes a bush gun or longer range gun etc.... what distance you would push out to etc.... good to get another perspective...
Cheers, yeah I will try and attempt a quick chat about it on a future vid. I hardly ever take my little bush gun out (7.62x39 cutdown, suppressed with a red dot) it mainly gets used for putting down stock. I only really shoot it at less than 50m and when I have taken it out I have had deer 150m away that i have had to let it walk. Im a big fan of having a good allrounder setup (Tika .308, vortex scope) that gets most of the use so I can build confidence in it and it covers me for most hunting situations from 10 - 300m provided I have done the range work and know the correct holds. There's a old saying "beware of the man with one rifle" he probably knows how to shoot it.
Well done guys. Good to see you back at it.Thanks for the video. take it easy.
Great video if you don’t mind telling us the name of the doc land you were on ?
Cheers, Aorangi ranges mate.
Awesome video mate!!

First one in awhile.
All good. Been waiting as your earlier stuff was cool.

Yeah mate, I was going to attempt to video a few other hunts recently but sometimes you just have to focus on the hunting. I will try and get back to a monthly video cheers for the comment.
awsome bro, love watching your vids, down to earth hunting. how it happens in reality!
Thanks Sam, appreciate the comment mate.

5:50 when you get Spielberg to dip in and do some of your UA-cam video editing. Just Wow!

Cheers bro, I see you are going hard at the moment. Looking forward to seeing a few of your mean fly fishing videos once the new season gets underway.
308 yeah bro better pull finger on the fly fishing haven’t been out for a few months...me sponsor might want their gear back!!😂👍👍
Nice. I was there on Friday afternoon. Windy as. Hard to duck right down into the main valley. Good spot, nice and handy, gets a bloody hiding though. 👍
Yeah its a cool spot alright, I can imagine it gets a bit of pressure on the weekends.
snatching the trigger, big no no
Oh yeah, I just watched it again, definitely wasn’t a smooth squeeze. You wouldn’t believe it from watching but I’m actually not a bad shot 😅, thanks for your criticism I will endeavour to correct this in the future 😂

There you go bro give that a look over.
Behind the front shoulder boys in the lung, waste less meat.
😅 yeah sure mate, I think I’ll address this comment in a future vid.
What’s your theory on shot placement? Where do you shoot a animal?
In my opinion the shoulder/heart is the best shot to take in most situations.
Also when you are hunting public land with a 3hrs plus walk back to the truck, I don’t know of to many lads that carry out the front shoulders, it mostly ends up in the sausage pile anyway.
@@Muzz308 Always a lung shot, plenty of blood to follow and undamaged four quarters. In behind the shoulder. Never the neck amateur hour guys shooting neck. Maybe drop a good trophy stag in the shoulder under 400yrds any thing over behind the shoulder. In the Crease.
@@BlacklabelDog Nice, not a bad theory. I read your comment wrong at first, I agree with the neck and even the head shot being amateur shooting more often than not. I personally aim for the heart and have the lungs and front legs for insurance .
N Robertson Where the bullet will travel through and exit the animal is just as important. Hence why we chose to shoot in line with the neck given the angle the animal was standing in this instance.
why you shooting through the shoulder, and not right behind it? just seems like your wasting alot of meat aiming there.
We cant always place the shot exactly where we want it. The main goal is to kill the animal quickly and not wound it. If you go for a head shot or neck shot you don't have much room for error, the brain is about the size of your fist, if you miss place your shot and hit it in the nose it wont die quickly and runs away. (cruel and max wastage) If we aim for the heart (behind the front leg) we give ourselves insurance, if we miss the heart we should still hit the front shoulder, lungs, spine, all of these are still good shots. People often say "why don"t you carry it out whole" Its a pretty big task and you are limited in how much you can carry the front legs are the first bit that gets discarded if you have a few hours of walking ahead of you. less quality cuts that generally get put in the sausage pile. Cheers Muzz
