If widow was actually dominating, they wouldn’t be able to round that first corner.
kiriko is a good support to play against widow. its harder to hit kiris head and she has a massive projectile while widow has a big head and smaller hitscan weapon. you can also try to be sneaky and get close to the widow and then tp back to your team. maybe wouldnt have worked on this map. but kiri is a good pick against her in my experience as a support player and widow player.
Spotify premium is also good against her, just not on this map

Yup, when I’m playing support as soon as I see an enemy widow I switch to kiriko. Even if I may not kill her I still add a lot of pressure if I get a headshot in and she has to go and get healing and move around constantly so she doesn’t get value.
Bro the end of that second round in defense. Nothing in overwatch is scarier than playing a squishy character and hearing that widow shot wiz past you. The fact that it happened 3 times and you this person still kept moving in that area is crazy.
my favorite thing to do as Mercy is let the shot wizz past me and then shoulder peek right after as the widow is charging another shot to bait them into trying to get me again. outside of valk, Mercy can't directly do much about Widow, so being able to distract them and get them to shoot at me - while guaranteeing my safety because I only peek when I know for sure they're charging up, since a half charged shot won't one tap me - instead of shooting someone else on my team is a way I like to contribute value
I love the fact that ana shoots like straight up horse tranquilizer at the enmies to knock them out that quick

I saw someone write in Emongg's chat "there are some low ranked players who love Sombra"
Silver-Gold here, haven't played a match without a Sombra in it for like a fucking month. She's the most annoying pos in the game, she's not fun to play as or against. But on a positive note, I'm getting really good at killing Sombras.
I'm also Gold, I've been playing a lot of Hanzo recently and making Sombras swap to another hero, lol. It's been pretty fun. I just try to stay close to my supports and when Sombra hacks me or my support, I try to maintain myself completely cold-blooded to hit that sweet headshot. Most people in our lower ranks panic when they get hacked, and that might be the main reason why Sombra kills them, because when panic sets in, you just shoot everywhere instead of aiming effectively at Sombra. Even if I only hit one or two body shots, the Sombra usually teleports away and that's when I use my Sonic Arrow in the location where she teleported to track her. That's when Sombra is at her most vulnerable state - she thinks she escaped to safe invisibility with low health, but now me and my whole team can see her, and go after her to finish her. If a Sombra is getting too much value, I save almost all of my Sonic Arrows to do exactly that - to track her down every time she TPs away or if I can hear her sounds nearby (but shooting the Sonic Arrow BEFORE she engages is riskier, because sometimes it will go to waste, and then she engages and can escape back before my cooldown resets and then I cannot track her down when she has lower health).
It's even better when, after all of this, the Sombra swaps to Pharah or Echo thinking they are countering me, and I still kill them mid-air with Hanzo. I would only swap off Hanzo if they're being pocketed by a Mercy, but I really don't care if there's a Pharah or Echo. Weirdly enough, I'm actually finding easier to hit flying targets in lower ranks because they expose themselves way more. I am aware that it wouldn't be that easy in higher ranks, and sometimes even in our lower ranks there's a great Pharah or Echo that I cannot hit, but, then again, that could happen with any hero. If a player is very skilled and has great game sense, they will use a lot of cover and make me swap off Hanzo simply because I'm having trouble to even see them in my sight lines long enough.
But yeah, Hanzo is freaking great against Sombra. If you can't aim with Hanzo, then any hero that you don't depend on your abilities to kill people will be good, because when she hacks you, you can still just use your main weapon against her. It's especially effective if your main weapon does BURST damage, because Sombra will usually shoot first, so she's gonna have an advantage on you, and for you to race against her weapon + Hack + Virus, your main weapon doing burst damage can put you in a later advantage. Mei, Junkrat, Reaper, Cassidy, Ashe, Torbjörn, Venture, Brigitte, Kiriko, Illari... Those are usually great anti-dive heroes in general. The three main general tips against Sombra would be: 1. maintain your coolness if you get hacked and she starts shooting; 2. keep yourself close to your teammates, so you can protect each other when she engages; 3. keep yourself close to corners, so you can cover yourself when she attacks you. Sombra thrives when she sees players doing the opposite of these 3 rules: someone alone in the middle of the map who gets panicked when she hacks them or starts shooting.
Btw, I have played a fair amount of Sombra too, so I also know exactly what's annoying for a Sombra, and the number one thing is an enemy team who's tightly close together all the time. It's hard to get value as Sombra (or any other diving hero, like Tracer, Genji, Venture, or Doomfist) when it's against a team like that.

I’m a gold Ball main, I hate Sombras but honestly I can mostly keep them at bay, Meis on the other hand…
I think this Ana is making the same mistake I tend to make with her nano. She never sets up plays with it, but only uses it reactively. Like when she was holding it forever, until Soldier ulted, when she then gave it to the Soldier. But nano charges so fast you really can't afford to use it like that, because you waste a ton of time you could be building a new one. I'm pretty sure in the first round alone with better nano useage there would have been at least 1 more nano built, maybe even 2.
she just doesn't understand when you can close out a win condition, she doesn't see the opportunity at all and thinks only big plays with "big value" can do the job. In reality nanoing someone to finish off a single enemy early in a fight might not look like big value, but that means the rest of the fight is 5v4 and you just grow an exponential resource value through the whole fight and you also stagger the enemy.
Early nanos also force a response before the enemy is ready to commit to responding -which adds further likelihood for them to misplay their chances.
"widow was dominating! nothing could be done!" meanwhile literally every time the ana was trying to cross a widow sightline, she's bouncing up and down like a mexican jumping bean, giving widow the easiest possible shots 😂
genuinely tho, if you're having a hard time against a widow, crouch-spam and strafe; do NOT jump. i actually swapped my jump to LAlt and my crouch to Space bc it's so easy to hit the space bar, that way i have an easier time avoiding headshots. idk how well it'll work for other people, but the point remains: if you jump in the sightline of a widow, your chances of survival are DRASTICALLY lower than if you crouch-spam and avoid peeking unless absolutely necessary.
okay a cool idea i just thought of is a game called ghost player basically you spectate someone playing and the first time you let them play an examine what they do then pull them into a discord call for the second game and essentially coach or be a ghost player making decisions for them so they can see why and how these different spectating tips work in real time and it shows them how to do it and why it works in the first place
OW coaches do that already. SCRIMS and QP games.

After watching this earlier in the day. I am playing overwatch right now played as Ana and this video really helped me play better as Ana. I actually went up against a widow and got killed by her three times but it was because I was out of place.
My first thought is that if a Widow is "dominating" in a match, then that match won't last 32 minutes

At 9:25 the Ana got popped through the gap she was playing cover there so I don't know how emongg says she's not behind cover there lol
The positioning was decent. The problem is they hardscoped way too long without knowing where the widow was
On attack you can be slower on ults as a gamble because you have as many team fights as there is time. On defense you have 2-3 team fights for each point so you need to take the initiative on ults to stall as much time as possible. It's rarely worth the gamble to wait because that ground is lost forever.
So this is just me but my team struggles with a Widow I swap to DVa just to help out. I know it’s not a guaranteed strategy especially on this map but it does help (I’m in plat)
dva, ball and winston are all great tank picks against a widow, depending on the rest of the enemy team comp. all of them are dependent on knowing when to back out tho, bc dying for a widow kill is never a good trade 😅
A tank shouldn't even have to dive widow when your DPS can jus go Sombra and force them to switch
@@wswann34 true, but I’m not in t500 or even Masters; from my experience going from bronze up to plat it falls on the tank to dive Widow because the DPS either can’t aim or put themselves in a bad position or just pick a character that Widow can farm
@@Battleress2 yeah it’s 50/50; either I can kill the Widow or I just intimidate her by charging her and lowering her health significantly

This player plays decent for their rank, but they hard panic and they neglect tons of opportunities to be proactive with abilities/ult -basically constantly letting the enemy gain and advantage before acting.
With proper coaching they could improve and climb in ranks so easily, but this mindset and playstyle sadly doesn't go away without dedicated practice. They can probably play for another 500 hours and be exactly where they are right now.
a key part of climbing out of gold and into plat is learning to identify the adjustments you need to make. the overwhelming majority of this person's deaths were their own fault due to poor positioning, but they didn't actually consistently stop standing in the open until the fourth round. this whole game would have been much different if they realized their first death was because they were standing in the open asking widow to headshot them and immediately fixed that mistake.
widow didn't dominate for the overwhelming majority of this game. the Ana just allowed themself to be a free pick a lot of the time.
you can get away with that in gold. a lot of widows either don't have good aim or don't pay attention to the supports. but widows in high gold and low plat start to do those things more consistently. you have to respect widow's sight lines and start thinking about positioning with the assumption that they WILL hit those shots. don't let yourself be a free pick
and use nano aggressively. nano can win fights. don't feel obligated to combo.
also, if you're playing with a Moira and you see them fade out of a fight to safety or get behind cover, don't turn your back on the rest of your team to heal them just because they're low. Moira will either use orb or let the passive heal them while they use cover to stay alive. heal them once and then go back to helping the rest of the team.
NANO CONFIRMATION BTW it will help you a lot
one last positioning tip: good supports position based on whether they can help their team. better supports position where they can help their team AND fall back to safety without crossing open space

I’m gonna be honest, I see ppl not playing corners against widows even in masters. Usually is a soldier player who doesn’t realize he’s got a big head (both ego and physically). Ppl don’t realize corner angles exist.
People need to stop being afraid to use their ult once they get it
Thing that I dont get is that you keep saying for the ana to play sight lines but from what im seeing its harder for her to do that if your own team is overextending into the enemies los. you could argue that she should stay back and force her team to play with her but if 2 dps and a tank fall over because they dont realise or arent willing, I feel like that could end worse than risking it at scarier positioning.
I would kill for a support who heals that much…. Minus nano…. Hit me up we will take you on our squad lol

Good player and a good tank. They will climb. Everyone struggles vs widow sometime. Needs a sombra or reeper swap
average counterwatch player. Also, they DID have a reaper, and I can guarantee that ana deserves to be in gold seeing as how they were healbotting the ENTIRE game, probably had around 2 or 3k damage by the end of the 32 minutes which is atrocious, found it funny how they were like "what could I have done to win this" when all they did was rely on their team. (btw this is for the vid too so please don't be too offended, I just saw your comment and thought it was a good place to put my thoughts on this player and match)

Its because even with the nerf hanzo has more burst damage then her, more health, a bigger projectile size, more available mobility and a mini widows ult as an ability. Widow is super counterable and a lot of people who complain about her either are having really unlucky games or not dont know how to play against her.
the whole point of widow IS the one-shot. if you remove that, you destroy her entire kit and identity.

@@kill3rw0lf39 Hanzo sonic arrow is not a “mini widow ult.” It’s centralized to one specific location, has an indicator and sound queue. Widow has 15 second wall hacks for the entire team. They’re not even remotely similar. Hanzo has a lower crit rate than widow by a substantial margin, yet he gets gutted and widow doesn’t. Also, hanzo’s mobility is nowhere near as good as widow’s.
Enemy DPS did better b/c this team played into them. They played the enemy’s game. You can’t wide peak GM or Master Widow players like this.
