Emongg hit the nail on the head. People seem to think that “creating space” means walking in and killing 3 so that the DPS can just clean up the other 2.
This is cause it's easier to say tank diff than to assist your tank. The amount of times I've gone up an equal or worse tank, but the enemy team has like zen/Ana so I have to play super careful. But my team has Mercy/Lucio and my DPS are taking extra long 1v1's, so it's a "Tank Diff."

Yes and also if your tank does make space and your dps don't position on highground around it, let alone try to contest the positions your tank gives you from the other dps, all that space is going to waste. dps that play on low ground behind the tank because they don't know how to play and rotate around them, are basically not even playing the game at all. The tank might as well actually go afk at that point.
As a widow main this is the major difference between an okay widow and a good widow. Low elos think widow is all about positioning. Sitting in the back of the map and getting picks. The dude had some good shots but holding an angle will never be a good play. As widow you need to be extremely fast and reactive your tank isn't supposed to go in and kill everyone they go in get the attention and you have to immediately get picks and apply pressure to people you can't 1 shot. Like a Bastion or other tanks. Your body shots still do alot of damage and that will cause people to panic. A head shot too a tank will cause alot of damage and give your tank the advantage. There's a golden rule to widow called the 2 second rule and it's the same in a lot of games when sniping. Never stay in the same spot for more than 2 seconds if someone isn't in your sight line move. Get a different angle. Just because widow is a long range character doesn't mean she can't move behind the tank get a couple shots off then get out. Be unpredictable and very aggressive. If they don't have a dive comp or someone constantly pushing you always use your grapple of cooldown for better positioning if they have a Winston sombra tracer etc keep the grapple for when they push to get out. Positioning matters alot as widow and the best position isn't always in the backline
Always keep an eye on your supports as a tank they are constantly flanked and you peeling for them could be the difference of winning and losing its your job to protect them and their job to keep you up but you can't expect them to do that when a reaper and sombra is flanking them
I think Widows are just falling for confirmation bias, they see only their good headshots and forget all the moments where they weren't able to create pressure.
The worst part is that their aim isn't bad. Their positioning is just atrocious.
If there's a widowmaker on your team, 9 times out of 10, it's a loss

Thank you Emongg for standing up against toxicity and teammate blaming, regardless of whether the submitter was the target of the toxicity or the perpetrator of it. Also I love how Emongg notices and points out things that are happening with other players. Many people could stand to take a step back and take a more forgiving and humbling look at our teammates and their efforts.
THIS. I'm playing in gold games these days and DUDE a gold tank was disengaging bc we lost the fight and I was planning to go with them anyway but they spammed the group up voice line at me and specifically was GETTING ME OUT. a GOLD TANK. people say a lot of crap about them and yet this Rammatra used shield and body blocked to make sure I got out with them.
I've had so many dps players peel for me. just because I might still die doesn't mean they didn't try, and sometimes they're the reason I don't!!
teammates, in general, do a LOT more for us than we might initially realize.
@@sethescopeyup, When I see a low hp teammate backing out of the fight, I run infront of them to catch any damage that comes their way. With 200 hp I can take some of the hits they with their 15 hp can't

@@birbylovescheese9244 I love this about you :) thankfully I wasn't really low at the time, we just needed to get out because our team was dead 😅 I think what really struck me about the interaction was it showed the tank was not only aware the fight was over, i.e., they were not a feeding Freddy but also that this tank was aware I was still alive and considered me their responsibility, that is to say, I was one of their supports so they saw it as their job to get me out safely. I don't mean to say this is rare behavior in this rank because it's not, I run into a lot of truly fantastic tanks. but I had played a couple of really rough games that day where it felt as though my team didn't know I existed 😅 which is fine from a gameplay standpoint, I try to play safely so there's no need to peel in the first place. But having someone so clearly aware of me and wanting to have my back and willing to put themselves between me and video game danger 🥲 it was just really nice, you know? and!! I don't always realize during the game that my teammates are helping me out because I'm so focused on trying to help them, if that makes sense? I only realize certain things when I watch the replay. I remember a game where during the replay I realized my bastion was coming back to me to try to help me when I died to a spawn camper. they weren't falling back in general, they saw I needed help and were coming to help. (it wasn't their fault I died, if my aim was better I probably could have stayed alive longer). so yeah, teammates are great, I feel like tanks and supports have a lot in common 💖

Widow made good shots, but they were waiting forever and ignored many open targets. The game looked like a 4v5 most of the time. The swap to Pharah did more in a minute than Widow the whole game.
This person has literally 0 impact on the game. They aren't proactive and they don't add any pressure. Even a body shot on all the people they choose to ignore adds pressure to both the DPS
and supports. It adds up in the long run. It's impressive how they can get a pick on a support, have a man advantage, and still its effectively a 4v4 because they're that unimpactful.
And you know the funny thing. That widow will watch this video, read the comments and be like, "ya'll don't know what your talking about, I carried". These sorts of players have no ability to think about what they are doing. Probably thinks hes a GM too.
And the ONE time they had a 'good' play as pharah, the fight was already won.
@@dash4800 i dont think that but um okay, i thought i was carrying but now i realised it wasnt.. but i thought if i have good kills better then my team it means i carried my team, i had 24 kills and i thought that was good.
People say "even a body shot" like it doesn't do 120 dmg across the map. A widow can one shot most people with a headshot, yes. But she can two shot most people with a body shot. I imagine a lot of widow players do 0 dmg instead of going for body shots which could get them a pic, unfortunately.
It's tough to balance tho, cause you don't want to build bad habits
@@StylesN0AH stats like that are deceiving because that includes assisted kills. That's how Moiras can claim "I have 33 elims! where's my team?" when her orb tickles 4 people for 30 damage each. If you count your actual kills that you did, it was about 8 or 9 before you swapped. But what also matters is WHEN you make those kills .. if it's only during a cleanup or between fights, it has little impact compared to mid fights like how Emongg swaps from you casually scoped in to Orisa fighting for her life ... killing the onslaught that Orisa was fighting is far more impactful than looking for that one perfect shot in the far back. Killing Ana while your team is waiting for the cart to push doesn't do much because Ana's back for the next fight.
Stuff like this is why I've started going back and watching game replays. In the moment, you feel like you're popping off or someone else isn't pulling their weight and then you go back with a level head and it's entirely different than it felt in the moment.

I feel like other roles forget that tanks need quite a bit of help since right now theirs a lot of abilities that make playing tank incredibly difficult. If your tank is trying to be aggressive then you need to capitalize on the damage they’re doing. They can’t make space on their own. You gotta help make your tank a scary thing to deal with

Yeah I think this game can still be fun, but not much for tanks.
yeah, most games unless the tank carries completely everyone blames them. But then you got the DPS out on flanking missions and the healers off chasing them and the tank is left all alone and they wonder why you suck. You'd think hundreds of hours of playing the game might clue them in but no.
I know what you mean... Got blamed and harassed a lot for not protecting the team and not creating space at the same time. Not saying that I was perfect most of the time, no one is, but camping in the choke and hoping to get kills from across the map won't make a difference and some players really don't get it in low elos (dropped to plat and I'm absolutely hating it there).
But I didn't like playing tank since S4, it always felt like punishment due to the 50 loose/50 win bs.
They did literally nothing for most of the game. They hit a couple of shots when it was probably least inpactful.
It wasn’t a matter of the tank not making space, it was the widow not using any of the space the tank DID create.
That what I found out about why we can't always effectively apply advice on making plays from high elo players. If you learn for example, if A you should try B, you'd fail not because you are incapable of doing B, but lack the sense to detect A.
This is a pretty reactive widow rather than a proactive one. Spends all their time waiting for picks while ignoring the pressure they could be putting out.
Yeah, I think in their mind, space creation is Tank gets a kill or two so I can get clean up kills on whoever's left. Also I love how they said they carried on Widow when their team starts winning fights after swapping off Widow. Emongg's summary at the end is spot on.

I bet the Widow's team was furiously typing in chat telling them to switch off and help the team. This playstyle is the exact reason I as a tank get a mini panic attack every time I see a player on my team instalocking Widow. I know full well I won't receive any kind of help from half my DPS then.
Only reason I switched to playing dps in OW2, the dps impact is so much larger. Can't counter pharah as DVA anymore when dps don't go hitscan T-T, I miss having a second tank to hold the front line.
Honestly, as a tank, half the dps picks i feel this way. Pharah, Echo, Tracer, Sombra, Widow, Ashe, Hanzo, Cassidy. When I see those get insta locked I know there is about a 75% chance ima be out there on my own getting rushed down by a Rein, Lucio, Reaper combo. Then have to hear about how I suck and don't do anything.
@@dash4800 I actually rank higher in dps now (Plat 1) than my tank (Plat 2) because of dps picking like that. I main soldier and cass, making sure I can take down flying enemies. I wish more dps would just keep it simple and go hitscan, then I could push for diamond on tank.
Went 4-15 recently, had 4 games where both dps were negative kd and 9 where one dps was negative. On the other hand, I had the highest dmg for 6 of them and I was only negative in two of those games...
@@nickl9939 yeah it never ends. I got to diamond 1 and my friend was masters and in those games you still get that. I just had a game yesterday where we had 2 dps nowhere near point and the other team went rein, brig, Lucio, reaper and just rolled me. But the dps never swapped. Idk how people get ranked so high like that.

I think it’s easy to play a game and feel like “yeah I carried this” but then watch it back and realize you really didn’t. Everything Emongg said was correct. As a Widow main myself, you focused too much on trying to hit those good shots to make yourself feel good instead instead of shooting enough to put pressure on the enemy team. Especially in Bronze. When the enemy sees and feels a widow shooting at them, they tend to back up which is great. You had some good shots, but they weren’t game changing.

Here is a free widow tip from a pretty decent widow: Not every shot needs to be a headshot. Take body shots, shoot at 50% charge etc. because each tiny bit of damage you deal is making them back up. You get more value from clearing an entire LoS than you do taking 60 seconds trying to get a perfect 100% charged headshot.
When widows and hanzos can't hit their shots or be proactive, the rest if the team is playing a 4 v 5, i always get it in casual when people want to try sniper characters
The phara actually looked good, especially for bronze, but that time on widow killed the team
yea cus casual is a place to effectively practice. Imagine going in ranked on ball for the first time

I play as a support main and every time I see a widow I instantly think that they aren’t going to do nothing but sit in the back line waiting for someone to walk in their scope then spam the “I need healing” every time they get body shotted
I have a rule with every good overwatch match I have, I rewatch it before I tell anyone I had a good game because sometimes a game seems really epic and then on a rewatch we just squashed them and I didn't do anything particularly amazing.
Players like this Widow are the reason why noone plays tank these days: bad, toxic dps not willing to adapt to the enemy playstyle. I really hope at least some u would listen to emongg :(

If carried means throwing yes they did indeed, i had afk teammates who did more than this widow. I would say the Ram was at fault at the last push, he had to hit his ult immediately but did after getting shattered. He couldve won
I had the best k/d/a on my team so I thought that meant was carrying, and this is bronze dont forget
Widow had maybe 6 or 7 kills the whole first round with barely any impact to the game and then another 3 kills until pharah. And even the pharah had an effect on just one team fight for second point. There was zero carrying with the tank struggling for their life because this DPS just walked around looking for supports to shoot.

Love when people think they hard carry when they ignore threats, you cant say you're hard carrying unless you're actually doing multiple things such as dualing the enemy carry, single handedly stopping the tank and killing the supports/forcing them away, if you're doing all 3 of these in one way or another then you're hard carrying but hitting a couple good shots on widow every every so often is the furthest thing from hard carrying, to hard carry on widow is to hit all your shots and be such a monster that even the tank is scared to peek your sight lines 😂

Blaming tank, saying you carried. Then I looked at the comp and immediatly knew what would happen. Sigma would be all alone getting a Rein, Bastion, Pharah in the face immediately with no help. See it a million times. Always love the DPS who only care about themselves getting mad at the tank for not holding by themselves against an entire team who isn't even concerned about getting shot.
Yeah this is a problem that people don't understand they have until someone else tells them to be honest. Yeah you got kills but did those kills matter or even do anything for the team? Like when they were on defense he was so hard focused on the pharah that the rein literally ran over his entire team...TWICE which was enough to steamroll to the 2nd point. I can count on two hands how many times he shot or put pressure on the tank. Part of the game is understanding how you can (as emongg said) enable your tank/teammates to get better plays. Just camping sightlines like some scrub from CoD isn't doing much for your team. An easy example would be since the rein is so out of control on the enemy team, in bronze you can pick reaper/bastion and punish stuff like that until the enemy stops doing it (or they don't).
This really seems like one of those "Well I got the most elims/damage so I did my job problem" games. This is why I never really gave a shit about stats or a scoreboard in OW1 because it inherently doesn't tell you what you did wrong or right. It seemed like 99% of the time you just thought "welp tank ain't my problem" and your team got railed for it

helped me so much and I thought k/d/a was everything, but really it’s not it’s about the pressure, important kills and now replaying it I realised it wasn’t just the tanks fault is was mine and my dps for not switching after noticing their comp.

That game was 100% a DPS gap, when the widow switched they broke the stalemate, doesn't make them the carry, just means they were able to sufficiently counter enough to progress.
As a person who almost never plays comp- I have 34 hours on widow, and I feel like I can't do better than that, seeing how she's waiting for the perfect shots and then not hitting a single head

Whereas that other Widow who claimed they carried was too impatient on shots, this Widow was way too patient. Waiting for that perfect shot and getting hyper-focused on a single target isn’t the play. I feel like a lot of the time this Widow wanted that headshot and was afraid to whiff it so waited until the enemy was still enough to hit it. Body shots are fine. Not every shot should be one and you shouldn’t be spamming like that one Widow did, but waiting to get the headshot because you’re not confident in hitting it does nothing. Body shots do less damage than headshots. But not shooting does less damage than body shots. Take the shot!
Dude these bronze games give me anxiety. Like, just where everyone is all the time relative to each other etc is almost surreal. I'm pretty new so was bronze just a few months ago and I remember how hard it was to read the current game state/know what's going on in a given moment 😢

Widow was actually throwing...didn't even bother to shoot back just shakes mouse. Widow is not a threat so tank can't really make much space.

dps almost always controls the game.
an absent tank or one that dives too deep can cause a loss, but the tanks primary job is to survive and the more kills the dps gets, the easier that is. widow is one of the worst heroes in a team because you have to get 2 kills per fight with her or you are not getting value. If they have a mercy that is rezing then you need to kill her or get 3 kills. It is much easier to go bastion/reaper/sym and focus enemy tank. You either allow your tank to just walk through and get the squishy kills or you actually kill the enemy tank and the enemy line falls apart. If you go widow, you are claiming you have the skill to kill 2/3 with headshots alone and if you can't then that's on you and no one else.

If they keep standing still like that in higher ranks, they'll get killed in a matter of milliseconds. Positioning is key as Widow, but repositioning is just as important
Overwatch is played so different now with the OP support hero's. Played for a few hours yesterday (I'm only gold) and I get healed so much less than ever. Especially with the new support hero who can do it all. So they just throw the drone and then frontline DPS and I'm dead. Can't take off angles or anything. idk I know I'm not that good but I'm def feeling less heals in general.

This dude would probably benefit *tremendously* from coaching. He has the mechanics to hit some good shots (inb4 people start screeching that this bronze is taking .2 seconds to long to land a flick shot) but he just has NO idea what to do with them. He picked bizarre angles that are good for unsuspected flanks basically 100% of the time.
Learn your fundamentals before you start gettin weird with it!
Good mechanics for bronze. Anyone could land those shots half the time the enemies were standing still or moving a bit left and right. I'm pretty sure Junkrat was the only enemy to crouch that entire game, and she couldn't hit him.

He is fucking bronze. Of course he is bad. But his mechanics are definitely not the issue at this level, and by far the fastest way for him to improve would be to learn about space and positioning.

Honestly, what probably happened is you watched some tremendously skilled players use unusual angles, or be very patient, but what you don't have is the experience that they do, to know when those risks are worth the reward
Focus on the fundamentals, and keep sharpening your sense of timing, space, momentum, and you will do fine. Eventually as you get more comfortable/consistent you can focus on trying funky tactics. Good luck, ya slice of cheese. 🧀

Honestly whenever I play Orisa, I’m actually horrible and she is definitely not immortal. 😂 and I’m horrible at creating space with her.
She's been better, but is still manageable imo. You're likely not spacing out her cooldowns. (Almost) never use both of her defensives at the same time.
Aim was way better than me and I’m in plat. If they were just a bit more aggressive they’d be much much higher.
There was just soooooo much downtime on widow that it felt like a 4v5.

here's the thing, the tank and the widow are pretty obviously a duo. and i'm 99% sure they're smurfs. seems more like a high gold or even plat widow, who just isn't taking the game seriously. like, at all... all the pausing, the bad positioning, memeing on the ana. they don't want to do good. they obviously have flicks, and can hit shots. but the reason they're taking so long to line up shots that could be simple flicks is evident, they don't want to win or perform too well in the interest of staying in bronze and clowning on people who deserve to be in bronze. as someone who well and truly sucks at this game, i would rather have the most braindead teammates imaginable than someone who plays like this. he doesn't think his tank did bad, his tank is literally his buddy. if anything he thinks his tank was pulling too much weight and jeopardizing their smurf accounts. these two were 100% watching this stream laughing their asses off. that's the kind of mental illness tier internet poisoning we're dealing with.

I think alot of times I take a while to switch to a more suitable hero and the adaption is slow for me, I think this player needs to be more flexible and adaptable. Had they been playing pharah after the 1st minute they would have had a much better time

I am a one trick mercy main in competitive I rank platinum I started feeling like sometimes mercy isn’t a good pick but I can’t play anyone else so I went and practiced on Ana and played open queue competitive and ranked gold should I risk playing Ana on role queue or should I wait until I rank higher on open queue?
Hmm.. Not going to say that i'm an expert and stuff but you can definitely go for it with ana in role queue if you got gold in the open queue. ^^ You can go and pick her first especially on maps where she's a really good pick and if you think it's not working, hop on your comfort pick where you're the most comfortable.
Gotta say though, learning and getting pretty skilled with Ana is pretty good. Her anti-nade and sleep can decide a lot of fights.

Widow was a fine pick even against this but they just didn't try to find kills, they were waiting for kills. Take an unexpecting angle, get a kill and then move.
The only time you need to play more defensive with the team ( if you want to force widow) is when they have heroes to directly counter you. Ball is a good example, you are not winning that matchup unless your getting severe peelage. Which id just advise going Cassidy if they are trying to hard counter your widow.
This widow was 99% of the time playing defensive, which is the main reason they lost. Get more aggressive and they'll probably see silver, they dont have bad aim. The aim is easily a silver player and maybe even gold.
Widowmaker can't carry a team. She doesn't do enough damage to help.
She's literally the best DPS for carrying alongside Hanzo
