I have been playing the Witcher 3 for 3 months with over 150 hours and havent finished it yet, i an hesitant to finishing it because i have the same afraid like you, like losing a companion that has been with me for a long time
There are plenty of side quests from helping a peasant to very side elaborate quests like the one with O'Dimm. You do not have to play that one if you don't want to in order to finish the game. At the end of game when you return to Toussaint, there are four very large bandit gangs you can defeat for money. In fact I routinely earn 4000 crowns every time I play it.
Hearts of Stone is probably one of the best pieces of story that I ever played. Amazing villain, dark story with occult themes and Olgierd. Olgierd is such a good character.
I had to laugh about the cursed prince. Have you found the note with one of the dead ladies. Dark humour 😂 There are lots of references to legends and stories from our world. In blood and wine I found a dead man taken captive by a troll and his diary reminded me of a song ''herr Mannelig'' in the diary the man even hoped that a bard might find his notes and make a song.

I finished my first playthrough after 220h+ with the perfect ending...I felt sad, I felt empty..after 1h I start my second playthrough... then Hearts of Stone was out...with even more amazing characters and story...then the perfect ending of Blood and Wine.. Witcher 3 is the best game I ever played!
As a developer I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you spending time discussing the issues these under appreciated individuals went through to bring these games to life. I am curious where you found some of that content though.
@@Nick930 id actually be very interested if you have developer interviews. Back when the original Witcher came out, companies didn’t tend to do things like that. The days of gaming chairs and rockstar like treatment for AAA studios was quite a ways off.
@@TheN8ism Sadly I don't have any first-hand interviews. I actually asked and heard back - but their studio is so incredibly focused on fixing Cyberpunk 2077 right now that they couldn't allot the time. @@Nick930 Well keep up the work either way. No other history/lore channel takes the time to really appreciate the process itself. I am fascinated by it especially since CDPR seems to create insane challenges just by their boldness to go beyond anything anyone has ever done before. Haha I assume well get some crazy interesting stories from the dev team about cyberpunk when it’s all over.
I'm form Poland, I'm almost 40 and this film is like flashbacks from my childhood. Amazing quality, marvelous content. Thanks for your time and effort you put into this.
I definitely love the franchise. I don't care about Cyberpunk, it's not my cup of tea, I just want The Witcher back. Whether starring Geralt again, or new adventures with Ciri. By the way, great vid!
I thought it was awesome that at some point in The Witcher 3 story, you hear Ciri describe one of the worlds that she traveled to through time and space. She describes the world of Cyberpunk.
@@Shonendo This is late, but there is a very small easter egg with ciri. It involves one of the side quest, forgot what, where after you slept, you can see a Swallow bird on the window before flying away. As with cyberpunk lore, any and every avian is exterminated because of a plague. Swallow refers to Zireael, Ciri's usual symbol and elven name.
Absolutely loved the Witcher 2 and 3. Especially 3, what really surprised me about the 3rd game is as much as it is a fantasy action-rpg it's also very much a detective game, many situations call for analyzing evidence in locations and questioning witnesses. Which was an awesome but very unexpected touch.
Not that unexpected, considering you are hired as a detective by a detective that is a medieval version of Sherlock Holmes throughout the entire Witcher game. On top of trying to discover who you are for 2 games.
I just started the other day after picking it up in the Easter sale really cheap. But I also love what you said about the detective like clue finding storylines
When you see how much attention to detail CDPR have put into the Witcher, it confirms that CP2077 was massively rushed out before it was ready. An amazing production team that just weren't given the time needed to create what they could have. CP2077 will be what it should have been in a year or two. Until then I think it's witcher 3 re-play :)
I highly doubt that Cyberpunk will ever be what the company had in mind all those years ago. Fixing an already published game is very different than finishing one
They announced years ago. It’s been in production and development for 8 years. They had enough time. Just greed. Laziness. And over expectations they put upon themselves is the reason CP2077 failed. Had they not advertised it and let the hype die down, they would’ve had the time they needed to fix it up and make it special.
Man sometimes i wonder where did those day and night npc activity system gone in CP77, i remember having to meditate to repair a sword bcs it was midnight lmao
Cyberpunk will NEVER be what was promised even in five years so dont get your hopes up or hold your breath. It will always be known as a dumpster fire.
@@whyonthefall5373 More than a view. I recommend The Rageaholic's video on the subject. He's a bit of an asshole sometimes, and his channel has a lot of political stuff, but that video outlines it. As a huge Witcher fan, that one hurt to watch. Let's just say that it's no small coincidence that Sapkowski wrote the first Witcher story not long after Elric was translated into Polish.
@@Caligulove I think he exaggerated some points, and doesn't give the witcher enough credit, in my opinion. But yeah, there are many similarities. But, hey, they are both extremely different while reading
@@whyonthefall5373 You might be right. I haven't read any of the Elric stuff, but I should go down a rabbit hole. Cool fantasy stories > office work, right? lol Anyhow, it looks like the Conjunction of Spheres in Witcher was more similar to the D&D version (which got it from Elric) than the Elric version. Whatever. More fantasy tropes for me to enjoy.
far better than far cry new dawn. And that's not only because wild hunt was a superior game to far cry game but also CDPR made a completely new map, new mechanics and kept the story on the level of previous content.
Great documentary. I discovered the Witcher world playing Witcher 3, although my gaming stepson had recommended the previous games. It's become my favourite open world game and the benchmark to measure others - unbeaten so far. Having also read all the Sapkowski books - and a Gwent addict - I'm hoping for a Ciri game or even one with a player created Witcher pre-W3.
As someone who only discovered the series about a month ago, and has now read the first two books in the saga, and watched both seasons of the show, this analysis of the games was very informative. Thanks for all of your effort, it was a pleasure to watch. 👍

Funnily enough... Cyberpunk has a very positive rating on steam, around 80%... I didnt actually have any real issues with it and actually quite enjoyed it, and I think the tables are turning and people are actually liking it.
Witcher 3 is the most immersive game I have ever played. The character interactions are staggering. As for Gwent, the game within a game, is so addictive. Thanks Nick930 for putting this together.
AHH. You were SO Great about describing the main details without to many spoilers I.E. Ciri's Missing and there's 3 possible locations but not much more... then you get too the expansions and immediately reveal that Gerald gets tricked in the beginning... WTF Man!.........other than that, AMAZING Video and Thank You for putting so much effort and detail into it.
It took me 4 years to discover The Witcher 3. Never played 1 or 2. Knew nothing about the lore. But, seriously. Wow. I mean people exaggerate about the games greatness sometimes. But it really is fantastic. If you have not played it. Even now in 2021. I highly recommend you do.
Excellent video. Thank you for putting this out there. To all game designers, programmers, artists, leads, tireless workers who are underappreciated, and undercompensated, thank you all for making our lives a bit better by giving us an escape.
Excellent bio coverage of CD Project Red’s history. I really appreciate the coverage and time you took to share this video. I had the op to play the Witcher 2 on Xbox 360, and The Witcher 3 on Xbox One along with all the expansions (which played like separate full games). Witcher 3 was my favorite overall.
I have been playing video games since I was 7 years old and now I'm 20, and the Witcher franchise is by far the greatest video game franchise I've ever played. Thank you so much for making such a great documentary. You just nailed it!
I remember first playing The Witcher back in 2008 after being recommended it from a friend and just being blown away. Very sad to see CD Projekt currently under fire for their first controversy when you feel the masses of love they put into this franchise.
Great job :) A well-drawn background of the games. I have only one exception - Sapkowski initially modeled fairy tales and legends (Polish and European) in a funny way, weaving them into his world, more then the Tolkien and alike literature. If you want to be even more precise, you can also add some minor details: In the years 1993-1995 a comic book was created in 6 volumes by Bogusław Polch (graphic), Maciej Parowski, and Sapkowski himself (script). In 2001, a paper RPG game and a Polish TV series were created. In 2007, Breakpoint studio released a game written in Java for mobile phones: The Witcher: Bloody Trail. In 2008, there was also the internet game The Witcher: Versus by CD Projekt Red and One2tribe (closed on May 31, 2012).
Great video man!! I’m currently giving Wild Hunt a replay. Such an incredible game, I think this is the absolute most fun and immersive experience I’ve ever had in my 35 years of gaming. A true masterpiece! Sucks CDPR dropped the ball on Cyberpunk but hey everyone falls from time to time, I hope they can resolve all their issues with the game and come out better for it. I like the idea of a 4th game based around Ciri, would be a great way for them to capitalize on next-gen hardware to see how far they can push the envelope with the Red Engine!
The sunsets of white orchard, the dark haunting swamps and monsters of velen, the outskirts and bits, the merchants and brothels of novigrad, the inns of oxenfurt, the fields of ard skellig, the kaer morhen keep, the isle of mists, the vampires of toussaint and the bells of beauclair. Everything about this game will always be in my heart. Best game ever for me. Also fellow indian here.
The next and hopefully first RPG game for VR 🤯 My daughters' father played this game before he passed away I wonder what he'd think of the tv series. Thanks for this video!
Thank you for the video. On a side note, the letter "w" in Polish is pronounced as "v" or "f" depending on the following sound. If "w" is followed by a vowel it it usually pronounced as "v". However, the letter "w" is pronounced as "f" when followed by a consonant or is the last letter of a word. That is why "Sapkowski" should be pronounced sapkofsky not sapkowsky
True but also depends. For the W that is true, In polish it share a V sound so it should be vedchmin (or as best as I can type it out lol) but the last name, well that's if you are truly wanting to speak it in the polish way. Then yes but for English speaking sense, it is correct. I will nit pick on how many don't know that if you cannot pronounce andrej, you can just say Andrew as that is what his name is in English if we do translate xD same goes for Michal as that is Michael in English or ryszard is Richard as another example. Of course not everyone knows that so I am not angry at it! Sometimes looking up the name online won't show that it could mean a similar name in English when translated I will admit, hearing others speak polish and aren't fluent in it makes me giggle a bit (I'm not better as I was born in the states so my polish isn't perfect) but I give kudos for him trying! Not many would afterall
I still get goosebumps thinking about the Witcher 3, and what a solid game it was. Having pre-ordered the statue too, I was actually awed when I opened the box and found all the signatures from the dev team. So I just love watching the behind the scenes stuff, and your commentary is also pleasant to listen to. Thanks for taking the time to make this, I have subscribed and I look forward to checking out your other content (funnily enough, I’ve even watched this type of overview on games I’ve never played so the worlds our oyster) Keep it up 🙌🏻

yes its truly amazing the music, gwent, gameplay and the graphics but lets not give all the credit to cd projekt red. Andrzej Sapkowski made a great world and a great story etc.
hey just wanted to drop a comment saying how well of a video this is. i was impressed from start to finish. it reminds me of my friend who got me into the witcher games in the first place. i told him that I never even heard of it and he went into about a 2 hour conversation about the history of the game. it got to the point that he called out from work bought the witcher 3 goty edition (ps4) for me and helped me fully immurse myself in everything witcher lol. again thank you for the video, getting the chance to play the first game is a plus :)
Bravo, Nick930! This is easily one of, if not, the best 'behind the scenes' videos about an upstart game developer and its amazing industry changing project. So well done!
Such a great documentary, thank you v much for doing this! Geralt's story ended perfectly. If there's a 4th installment, I'd love to see something completely different, like the time after the Conjunction of the Spheres & the formation of the Witcher Schools. I love playing minigames like Gwent and Orlog (in AC Valhalla), and would really like a real-life set to play with.....and someone to play them with lol XD
Her: He is probably thinking of other women! Him: Imagining witcher co-op game and how would he make his character , witch school he would choose and fighting with his buddies.
@@vladdietheladdie7345 id love it if they would make a witcher game where you play as vesemir in singleplayer, when theres a lot of witchers and competition, before the massacres. They could then add a dlc where you make your own witcher and play in online accepting contracts, travelling the world and etc.
I personally don't think it would be that great. The wither is brilliant because of how much more linear it is and it follows an established thought out character who belongs in the world. If you do what cyberpunk did and make it more customisable it looses a lot of the story and memorable moments that the witcher had. I'd rather play as someone who has already been in the world and had personal effects on it already than play as someone new who has to discover it all. Then again I don't hate the idea as it does work really well in certain games. I just don't think it would be great in this world as its a lot of work for the deva and they could veer off their original idea. Lastly I'm not sure the guy who made the books would approve of it very much
@@yusafmalik5171 @Yusaf Malik well the person that made the books gave them the rights to do what they want, but I agree the story shouldnt be about a random witcher unless it takes place a long time ago. Like I said, the best way is if we have a singleplayer story mode with a specific character, like young vesemir competing against the many other witchers (before the massacre), and a multiplayer as a dlc with customizable characters but of no real story implications.
I have to say after finishing a game i read into all the articles into how the game was made. And having completed Witcher 3 twice i was always shocked how nobody has put together a well made documentary on UA-cam on W3(Noclip doesn't go into detail to the history of it). And now i'm seeing a whole documentary on Witcher franchise?! Thank you!
To say cyberpunk2077 was based on an old tabletop board game called cyberpunk is misleading. It was based on tabletop roleplaying game called cyberpunk 2020 and it's worth mentioning that they worked with Mike Pondsmith, author of said game in contrast to Sapkowski, that wasn't actively involved in the process.
A Witcher 1&2 remake would be something I would buy the second they release it, not to mention it would definetly help CD Projekt Reds current reputation.
@@rodrigofranca9787 a lot of people have not played the second one and most definitely the first one. This seems to be the season of remakes anyway so it wouldn't be out of the blue if they did decide to do it

Very good video. Really enjoyable and real nice facts I didn't know yet. Truly one of the few documentations of this kind in which I don't mind the vocal documentation. Most of the times I find it so hard to listen to the person talking. It's just straight irritating. Real good content!
History of Battlefield is most definitely coming this year. It's a big one though - and incredibly important to me, as Battlefield is quite literally how this channel got started.
Tears in my eyes as I watched this. I started playing the Witcher 3 in December and I’ve been playing games for over a decade and it’s easily in my top 3 best games.
I've been playing games since the mid 80's on a commodore 64 and Witcher 3 is the best game I've ever played. I know you're wondering so I'll tell you, I'm 70.
41:58 Rushing out games before they are finished. CD Projekt couldn't keep up with their own words. Sad as Cyberpunk 2077 is after all (bugs and glitches) a very good game.
It didn't help that there was also constant pressure from outside to get it out faster, instead of trusting them with time to get the game as close to it's best state possible before release. I find it ironic that people bring up development time frame being so long, but don't get that something with such lofty detail expectations is going to need time to make sure it is balanced. The more it is forced to be rushed, the more unpolished, as the current version showed. I think people trying to sue them over it is equally wrong, because that could hurt their overall survival. I do appreciate CDP's dedication to their relationships with gamers, and giving refunds to the ones that wanted it...though I think those that did are going to end up buying it again when the stuff gets worked out, but continue their toxic attitude that has been prevalent online, for that "I told you so" mentality.
@@TalesTheDude Keep in mind that the finished product is a mediocre looter-shooter with pseudo role-play elements, rather than the branching, diverse RPG that was marketed, with a lot of features being scrapped and overall left botched mechanics. Cyberpunk 2077 is broken at it's core and no amount of time spent on fixing bugs is ever going to solve that.
@@ABlazeintheNorthernSky That is subjective. There are some that enjoyed it more than others. It is also the first game in a new genre for these guys, so faults are bound to happen. They also might have changed the setup in order to get it out faster, which I think was a huge blunder. Most of the broken things can be fixed, but people need to exercise a little more patience. Even games like Skyrim were disjointed messes at first.
No mention of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales? I think it was a really well made tactical rpg game. Enjoyed it a lot as well as the story within, all the choices, characters and the Gwent system. Witcher 3 is my favorite game to this day. Such an amazing story, with several small storylines within, that is very emotionel and unique. The Bloody Baron questline is fantastic. Hearts of Stone gave such an awesome story to playthrough. Might not expand the areas much, but that story in itself was so captivating. Blood and Vine, is fantastic. So big and vast with so many small and large stories. Never have I seen an expansion be SO large. When it came out it even had the price tag of maybe 1/3 of big triple A title games, and it was longer, larger and better than most games. So sad they ended up ruining their reputation with Cyberpunk. Hope they can regain it some day.
Was about to ask the same. If there's new Witcher game in the future with Ciri as main protagonist, I'll still happy if they stick with Thronebreaker graphics and art style. Hopefully it'll be something similar to Hades as I'm not really into Gwent.
The Witcher series was actually my first real video game experience ('cause the sims doesn't count XD), and I got Cyberpunk when it was released. Cyberpunk gets a lot of (deserved) hate, but I still saw some of the things that made me fall in love the Witcher series : the characters and the stories. I much prefered the Witcher, and I would love to have it back (though I don't believe it will, and maybe it shouldn't. It got a great send off, and sometimes more is too much. Also, I hated playing Ciri) but Cyberpunk is good (the content, not the form). I have only really started playing video games since I finished the Witcher series last year, but as of now, Cyberpunk is one of my favorites with the Witcher series and God of War. Maybe I'll change my mind when I'll have experienced more of gaming, but right now... I quite like CDPR stories. And that's all I want in a video game. To love the story. Thanks for the video, it's always a pleasure to hear about this game. :D
@@history-jovian I played it just before they released cyberpunk, so it must have been around Christmas 2 years ago. And yes, it's really good. It's number 4 in my list of favorites.
The difference between witcher 1 and 2 were like day and night,Almost everything was improved. Witcher 2 and 3 were like day and afternoon, it had its differences mainly in the graphics but not by much.
I’ve tried at playing The Witcher 3 and really wanted to get into it but honestly the gameplay and controls were way to difficult for me to get used too, but honestly it’s like I’m interested with the Fantasy Genre lore wise, theme wise, and world building wise like Skyrim, Elden ring, and The Witcher but I always sucked at the combat and controls.
this only proves that money ruins everything. And the leeches scum that are the investors, ruined Cyberpunk and the idea that CD Projekt had for gaming since the early 90's

As a developer I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you spending time discussing the issues these under appreciated individuals went through to bring these games to life. I am curious where you found some of that content though.
Interviews, documentaries, and other articles. I have a full list of sources if you are interested.
But I did find several fantastic interviews conducted over the years from the likes of Eurogamer, ARHN.EU, and some of the original developers behind the older titles/canceled games

I want a good witcher game....whether it takes 5 or 10 years not another rushed cp

At this point nobody does care about cyberjunk, the game was about a quarter of what was promised coming from a PC player btw
Cyberpunk makes me worried though that The Witcher 3 was a stroke of luck rather than evidence of CDPR’s mastery as game developers
@@damn6039 it might actually be a good thing that cdpr got a reality check with cp so that they can remember this lesson while making the 4th witcher
No matter how many Witcher videos pour out of the internets...I will watch them all. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
I thought it was awesome that at some point in The Witcher 3 story, you hear Ciri describe one of the worlds that she traveled to through time and space. She describes the world of Cyberpunk.
i wonder if she saw people breaking into someone's house through the window only to be flung backwards at the speed of sound lol
Ciri should've had at least a side quest in cyberpunk lol, missed opportunity to connect both worlds.
One of Cyberpunk's biggest disappointment for me was that Ciri wasn't in it outside of some obscure eastern egg in one of the paths.

Fixing an already published game is very different than finishing one
it becomes to big man, heart, inovation, and the devotion was overwhelmed by greed. sad very sad.

Witcher 1's soundtrack is something really beautiful and special, the BEST soundtrack i've ever heard.
I loved this game so much that I am still waiting for next Witcher.

Sometimes looking up the name online won't show that it could mean a similar name in English when translated
I will admit, hearing others speak polish and aren't fluent in it makes me giggle a bit (I'm not better as I was born in the states so my polish isn't perfect) but I give kudos for him trying! Not many would afterall
I still get goosebumps thinking about the Witcher 3, and what a solid game it was.

I have to say after finishing a game i read into all the articles into how the game was made.
Is a good game but not at the level of the witcher 3.
@@TalesTheDude At least throughout The Elder Scrolls, your choices actually matter. Whereas in Cyberpunk 2077 they don't. How is that subjective?

Can't put all the blame on investors. Leadership at CDPR is to blame awsell for mismanagement and false promises.
@@cribacon the ones that push deadlines are the investors. If it were only from the development team, Cyberpunk would not be launched as it did. It's easy to understand what a pandemic does to a game under development.
@@cribacon Ever wondered whether you've influenced someone else's life? Well, your nickname got me to watch that cripple pig video once again. There you have it.
@@yarpen26 Lol, good to know.. I guess? It's a good video.
@@cribacon - I saw it with that newsman who couldn't stop laughing, lol!
Awesome video on the witcher, super amped for the season 2 on Netflix!
