Earthworm Jim is one of not many titles where I definitly go for the Genesis version, even sound wise. PS : There is a secret level which is of course included in this longplay.
Earthworm Jim 1 is better on Genesis Earthworm Jim 2 is better on PlayStation/Saturn Earthworm Jim 3D is better on PC Menace 2 the Galaxy sucks ass and it only has one version
The amount of hours I spent as a child trying to beat this game on my brother's computer, I remember the first time I finally got past the tubes level with the glass submarine, I felt like a demigod for a whole week.
same here man, was the first big trouble to pass that part.. my brother and me were a whole week trying to beat that part, and the feeling after, was the same ja
For 27 years I didn't think about this game. What was the trigger? A conversation with my small son, who suggested that we should not use worms for fishing: "They may have their own family, be important and live in their own world too". I was spacing out / inside myself for a minute while he kept talking. Memories. We had great childhood guys!
I played this game all the time as a kid and loved it. Im 22 studying architecture and we were discussing soil ph and they mentioned earthworms and for some reason this game just popped up in my head after completely forgetting it for years 😂
im find fascinanting the fact always someone thinks imagination and creativity is just a product of using drugs like "if i use drugs i can have this kind of creativity too" this clowns...
I only got past the level with the spiked walls thanks to a fancy controller that continuously pressed the helicopter button for you xD Otherwise I would've had sore thumbs!
9:12 THE CRYSTAL GOES UP!!! I could never get past this as a kid, probably because I was never able to stay on the crystal for more than a second. I'm surprised I still remember this after 20 years.
Reminds me of Sonic 3. Circus style level where you have to jump on these drums to bounce. Here I am jumping on one particular drum, hard as fuck to get through a small space. Turns out, on this one, you press up 🤦♂️
i couldn't finish that sub ride either until years later where i found out that you can connect your sub to a little valve in the wall and end up with 99 seconds of air (if i remember it right) Edit: it is 99 seconds, it's in the video, i didnt have to try and remember it, haha
@@FozzieOscar you see it when you let the game just run on, one of the demo-cuts show how it works with the air valves! Back then, this was helpful to know what's to do!
I came here because I randomly mentioned this game in a conversation about old games and wanted to show it to my friend. This game was waaaay ahead of it's time. 1994. What a game. They don't make them like that anymore
Earthworm Jim (1994) is one of the most greatest video games of all time due to it's wacky, zany, bizarre, encentric, comedic, quirky, surreal, visual, and edgy gameplay, graphics, and levels. It was decent. To this day I still play it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍
I remember playing this on Sega mega drive when I was like 6 with my younger brother who was 5 at the time! Sooo many memories just came flooding back.. Good times!

34:03 The “In The Dark” rag is one of the finest pieces of music in the game and on the Genesis, period. Convincing FM piano, several key changes and improvisations, and a nearly 2-minute run time before it cycles. Incredible! 🎹🎶❤
I had this on my PC. I was probably no older than six or seven. Don't think I ever got through the first level but I could see the level names in a drop down menu. Have to say, Buttville's design is not what my six year old self expected.
55:22 Buttville. 20 years later, I would learn that there is a Buttzville 50 miles from me in western NJ. I always knew that my state was weird enough for EWJ to be set in it. Much like Pete and Pete.😂
I don’t remember playing this. But I remember my older brother playing it though. This really gives off jazz jackrabbit vibes. I wonder if the latter was based on this game
Best game ever. Played it on the original NES. I just got married and my wife thought this game was weird and disgusting. She was right and I loved every second of it. This game was challenging, creative, funny and a great time. They don't make em like this anymore.
I had never beaten this game as a kid, BUT when i had entered my early 30's - i remembered my child giving me some important advice. In order to beat this game, you would need to stop thinking like a human, and start thinking as a worm. My son beaten the game when he was 10.

The humor in the game was a big part of its appeal. It was a fun game all the way across the board with great one liners. It was a challenge too because in those days, game over meant go back to start son.
This game was fucking bullshit difficulty wise but also a fucking masterpiece. The style, the music, the atmosphere, the humor, the weird but cool gameplay mechanics, so much shit here you still don't really see in video games.
As a kid with my family, we would go to a shopping mall, and always stop at one specific store there. At this store my favourite section was the toys one, where, there would also the recent gaming consoles being displayed - I remember watching this on a tiny tube television and thinking it was so great and that i wanted it (i would not realize slangs, vulgar/etc stuffs clearly all the time as a kid, so I don't know what I would think of it now, because I never had a PS1, thus, also the chance to play this game).
Loved seeing that clash with Evil the Cat. In between shooting fireballs from his big gun, he licks himself. And that finish him segment involves shooting all nine of his lives! 😆 I remember a gag like that in the TV series adaptation. One time he attacked by hacking out big hairballs. 😉
oh so this game is real, i thought it was just a dream. bcs no one from my peer know this game.i remember how frustrating it was playing the tube level, i never get past that. and theres many more levels??? wow. but yeahhh im just glad that this game really existed.
I had vague memories of each one of these scenarios. Specially that little freaking dog. I remember i felt sympathy for him and wanted to protect him bc he was cute and defenseless, despite being actually a vengeful psychopath 😂

Hm, for me, the SNES ports is better, but good game regardless of your preference.
This game was ahead of its time! I never came close to beating it as a kid.. so came here to see someone else do it!
One of the hardest games to beat growing up as a kid in the 90s. First time seeing the end credits - classic game for sure.
Definitely a tough game.

Not compared to echo the dolphin lol

True, along with Aladdin!
For real bro
I always thought these types of games were the norm but now watching this, I seriously wonder what the creators were smoking when making this game
Doug definitely smokes weed but due to his book content I wouldnt be surprised if he experimented with dissociatives (ketamine specifically) 😁
