Earthworm Jim 2 is the 2nd game in the Earthworm Jim series, released on the SNES and Sega Genesis in 1995. We follow our hero, Earthworm Jim, as he attempts to foil the evil Psycrows' plan to steal away the beautiful Princess What's-Her-Name.
Flip ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/Flip ) improves upon the previous publication by 01:18.53 thanks to better optimization.

@@TrueClueTommy Tallarico, the music composer for this game, made a lot of false claims about projects that he was involved in or influenced.
The "mother is very proud" became a meme of one of these claims because he supposedly stole credit for work that wasn't his.

What’s so bad about Puppy Love? Yeah it’s not the best stage ever and the hit boxes are a bit wonky but honestly I think they’re a good time
@@RachelCritiques I think most people hate it. Puppy Love is a gimmick game in the vein of Game & Watch that lasts WAY too long, you can even see how it takes most of that TAS. Like you said, the hit boxes are ridiculous, while the game isn't very forgiving. And EWJ2 already has way too many gimmick stages.
Imagine being a little kid; you beat 2 great first stages; then you get Puppy Love, that weird salamander stage, that weird flying stage, then MORE Puppy Love. And there's still MORE Puppy Love left.
I think in a perfect world it should have been an optional mini game, like e.g. in Sonic, and the trampoline should have been twice as wide.

Cool to see this game again I played as a kid and as every level goes by I go “oh yea this level sucks” and realize that’s true for every level except the first and ate.
I forgot how great the sound track for EWJ was. I still have ptsd of those puppy bouncing sections but i always liked Level Ate lol
The OST is just royalty free music. Used, presumably, because they needed a fast sequel after the success of the first game. Minimal effort, both, in terms of gameplay and production. And it shows.
@@smeghamr The ost is mostly classical music in some way shape or form. It gives the feeling of the old Loonie Toons shows who liberally abused those songs.

Earthworm Jim was 100% an influence when it came to Pizza Tower, given how often McPig/PTG would talk about it
That second level is the only time in a TAS where climbing through the floors makes any amount of sense.

If the devs had any self-control, these would still be considered good games from back in the day. Just way too difficult for the worst reasons. And if there isn't already a hack to eliminate all the Andy Asteroids (from EWJ) and the Puppy Love segments from this game, someone should do that.
That's because the Mario Party formula didn' exist.
MP2 and onward had streamlined the games, and the genre, whereas EWJ has minigames that go on *forever* while having little narrative features to play off of.
There wasn't a half life to compare to, and EWJ was feeding off the comic books and TV show that span off. The 90's were weird, everyone had ideas and nobody knew if they worked so they tried.
There is no cow level
This game just seems like a really poor collection of dev's inside jokes that nobody was ever supposed to understand.
They laughed but nobody laughed with them.
The ost still sounds way better on the SNES though. Let's be real.

Ewj 1 and 2 are so interesting and weird and cool but also 2 spends half the game making you do miserable shit and 1 isnt much better about that. Also two of the least likable people on earth have their names attatched to both games. Much to think about for a game where you play as a worm.

@@taotd tommy tallarico claims to have worked on both games. I think hes only in the credits for 2 but even that is kinda suspect any more, as it seems he may have straight up lifted some of his classical arrangements from elsewhere. Either way he's buddies with Doug and loves having his name attatched to the series.
The music in Sega Genesis is awful
As much as i love Earthworm Jim, i gotta admit it has a horrible level design. You cant even tell where youre supposed to be going most of the time let alone where you can acrually go. Is that wall solid or just part of the foreground?
Yea dude! That first level on display....i never seen half of it from what this video showes....i always got shoehorned to a dead end...
Man like the game looks amazing, this is something you'd see only on PC. But holy fuck the gameplay can be terrible and just not fun. They went full retard with earthworm jim 2 too, it looks great you can tell this was created by animators and not gamedevs. Plus the game was so god damn rushed, this could have been in the top 5 games in the generation if they spent more on gameplay&ideas. Also the music is just god damn terrible they put all the data towards impressive SFX instead.
Sick TAS tho thats for sure.
I love earthworm Jim 2 because it's fun and difficult at the same time but puppy in love💀💀💀 that doesn't make it so fun, at all, for me puppy in love is the only bulls***t of this beautiful game!🪱🔫🐶🐮
