    a boat was in need of a fan belt while cruising. Commercial operator radioed him "the belt is only $20. It will be $150 for me to bring it to you . . . cash". Moral: carry spares - all and plenty of them. Oil, filters, wire, fuses, breakers, lights, pumps, etc. Self sufficient is the key to problem free cruising.

    I was feeling sorry for yuns doing everything right on the headliners EXCEPT for using 3M 77 Headliner Glue to put em back together for the last time ! That fabric will stretch and sag, especially if it gets hot ! Love your channel! You guys are brutally honest on what boating really entails !

    Elizabeth and Shawn you guys are quite the team ! I hated to see you have to replace the material on the panels, but Shawn gets right on the project and in just hours both of you get it done. It's very interesting watching the projects on the boat and as we see having the right tools made it much easier. Elizabeth you are quite the chef and those cookies looked delicious with a glass of milk. Always look forward to your videos as we always learn there is always something to do on a boat &%^#*. Take care and stay warm !

    I hope Sully was on the clock for that first panel - he never took his eyes off of you. Perhaps he is the brains behind the operation and tells you how to do such good work, Shawn. However, you did divulge a secret: work, work, work, put away tools, shower... then cocktail. Many of us mix up that order - especially the cocktail part - which can lead to different results. Nice work, as always.

    Really suprised to see so many boats riddled with the headliner debacle. I never would guessed with the build quality of a Nordhaven that you would have this issue. My Formula 41 had the same issue as did many of them. Great Job fella.

    • @Jack-yl7cc
      @Jack-yl7cc Рік тому

      Yacht Tech Inc has a UA-cam channel and James Knight does some very in-depth videos on Nordhavens and he also happens to mention the cause for the headliner failure in one of them. Basically there is a layer of foam between the backer board and the headliner material that degrades over time. Eventually the foam will degrade enough that it separates and causes that sagging headliner look. They also have a vid on how they go about fixing the headliner that is well worth the watch if you want to give it a try yourself.

    • @markhogrebe2378
      @markhogrebe2378 Рік тому +1

    Suggest that you check out what the manufacturer is using especially in respect to fasteners, adhesives and soft goods. They have to warranty the boat and are willing to do whatever is required to avoid warranty claims. If that doesn’t do the trick checkout what more expensive boat manufacturers are using. For instance there are now new metal fasteners used in expensive boats that eliminate the use of Velcro. If you can pull down a panel you might find some installation tips too. The expense isn’t the bad on smaller boats. You shouldn’t be surprised that household or automotive materials and processes fail spectacularly. This is not third grade, looking on someone else’s test paper is ok.
    I like the jokes even when I have to wait for the penny to drop (UK). Also there should be a web channel law that would require posting recipes used on the channel especially when well received.

    I’m sure I’m late with this tip but you can think about it. I’m watching you do what looks like the first panel you’re doing. Here’s my tip. First the long end staple the end no sides yet. After you’ve stapled the one end I want you to lift slightly in the center of the panel, now that you’ve lifted the center of the panel about 2 inches staple the far end. After that remove the object holding up the panel. You should find it stretched the material nicely. One other thing I would do is at the same time test the new material at the same time by removing it from the boat find a spray glue impervious to moisture and follow the instructions you spray both the materials and wait the amount of time the instructions tell you to wait before you combine the two substrates.

      Bubble insulation is a radiant barrier. It severely underperforms unless you can maintain a continuous air gap between it and the cabin top and the ceiling panels. Just get flexible foam insulation.
