JCC - The Man , The Mod ... this fella clambered straight out of a Colin MacInnes novel looking sartorially sharp razor edged & has bin slowly makin existential sense of this strange business we call ' living ' for us all fer over forty years now ... cutting to the chase - a ONE OFF ... 100% genuine - the real deal & they don't come along too often . John ... I tip my hat to yer & straighten my Tootal paisley scarf . Frankly ... love yer man . Keep on keepin on ! 😎

He's excellent, slightly cynical but very observant. Stands back and watches and writes. Tells it how it really is.

Slighty cynical............??? He is from Northern England. What you see as cynicism ,is northern optimism.

@@frankboothsedated.7054 The only time I felt cynicism pessimism or some kind of unease regards Mr Clarkes work was trying to work out if Excrete was replaced for explete in recent renditions of Beasley street.Other than all is good.

have been aware of the honourable Dr. John for years but only got into him fairly recently. i must admit 'poetry' can put me off but i do like his sharp and humourously scathing style. but really, i just like listening to him talk in interviews/reviews/and bits of news - even when he's not being particularly deep there is often a warmly witty turn of phrase. he can have you laughing out loud or just smiling quietly within. and his book is absolutely wonderful, when i read it i do so in his voice, not mine!

Adore this man. Poetry on a scale i cannot put to paper. I picture a memory when he played at the Crystal Ballroom in St Kilda Melbourne - in 82-ish, there was a riot where some blokes hammering each other cos they thought it part of the entry fee, the coppers arrived cars blaring blood on the pavement and johnny walked through it like he was on water. Fuckin brilliiant. Very La de da.

He didn't 'start out reciting his verse with the punks' - - JCC started out years before punks. Trust the BBC to be untrustworthy. "It's not something that has to be solved" - - great line that should make all critics and literary essayists think twice and very possibly call it a day.

I fell in love with an alien being
    Whose skin was yellow,
    Whose teeth were green
    She had big bug eyes
    And a death ray glare
    I was over the moon
I took her back to my place
And then I married the monster
    From outer space 🪐

Dave Dogge It was. Back in 2002 when I sat my GCSEs I had to study I Wanna Be Yours. Had little appreciation for it or any other poetry back then, I had a rather antiquated view of what poetry could be. Things have changed a bit now though..

Nice to know that 1980/90s pop culture is slowly filtering into the educational system. In 1000 years from now the lyrics from the songs on Never Mind The Bollocks will be exam questions hopefully.

It would sound odd with a neutral or "posh" accent, but almost any working-class accent would work. Glaswegian would be interesting.

My favourite Humanist funeral outro tune is "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive" by Hank Williams! I played it at my Da's funeral, and all his drinking buddies from his local had a right good laugh!
