    As if anyone needed this confirmed, I met JCC backstage at his gig in Galashiels a few years back and he was even nicer of a man than you imagine him to be. A total gentleman. A living legend, glad he’s still appreciated and on these shows.

    What a wonderful pairing of guests to have someone like him so descriptive and poetic with his words, and on the other side someone visually impaired, who most likely appreciated the viviv story telling.

      Yeah, of all of the panellists that he (Chris McCausland) had been paired with, this one one that I think I saw the most fun he had. Usually, he'd be looking a little blue and confused. But not a second of John Cooper Clarke's wordings did he looked as such.

      @@Leto_0 only in a way. Body language ,facial expressions, even clothing add to any storytelling. Since that visual component is lost to Chris you might say he got less out of the story. But JCC’s unique command of the English language paired with the fact JCC isn’t very animated and wears dark sunglasses( which hides his eyes completely) means Chris is getting close to the same experience as the others. But even then Judy Love makes the point; out of everyone, who LOOKS like they lived with monkey?

    I love JCC. For 5 years, he picked up his weekly copy of The Spectator from me. Despite his twang, he resides in Essex now and is extremely well loved.

      Yah except with Bob’s all the details are so disconnected and implausible that you think it has to be a lie. Here they are so colorful and fascinating but still make total sense that you think there’s no way someone could have this vivid and consistent an imagination. They are different sides of the same coin

      Also the whole "Inspector Bytheway" - "DAD!" part from the Gulf Stream Halloween Mask story is hilarious, even though that part is Lee. Amazing improvisation.

    What a story! And of course what a storyteller!
    You could tell it was true when he quickly back-peddled to their first encounter. Truly recalling something, it doesn't always come back in sequential order, especially something that long ago.

    Seeing John Cooper Clarke in the flesh, live, in the next couple of weeks for the first time. Only four or five decades late. Looking forward to it. EDIT: (two weeks later) Saw JCC live tonight and what a dude! Talk about STAR presence for such a tiny, wiry little bloke. Punchy poems and funny as f**k. RECOMMENDED!! And of course he ended, ss he must, with the complete I Want To Be Yours! :)

    I was so disappointed that this was true. That made it masterful comic storytelling from an eccentric character's life. But if he'd been making it up on the fly, that would have been off-the-charts genius.

    There are some guests who just enjoy telling a funny story and offer up all the details voluntarily, which you’d never do if you were telling a lie. I think JCC is still an outstanding guest, but the ones I enjoy the most are those who deliberately make it as difficult as possible for the other side to work out whether the story is true or false. Rhod Gilbert, Bob Mortimer, Richard Osman and Miles Jupp are good examples in my opinion. They just seem to have a good knack for the game :)

    Pardon me, I'm a child of the 70s when studio sets were just plain with maybe a few leather chairs that would swivel, but can anyone explain why on earth the studio set is the way it is. The big 'O' shapes behind Mack and Mitchell. The bizarre colours. The strange and pointless ridge on the lumps they all sit behind. I do realise it doesn't matter but in my day there's be a reason for things. I'm suspecting no one anywhere knows or indeed cares. Anyway....always loved this show. I just wish they were on a plain set with some comfy chairs rather than having to look at all that clart.
