Boot camp was the easiest three months I spent in the Navy. If you can't deal with authority or you're some kind of control freak you will not like basic training.
Hey! You get a fan from Vietnam, it's me. I have watched a lot of your videos. You bring lots of useful information for people who concern about the military! Good job! Austen Alexander!
Very informative. Thanks! Marine Corps boot camp was a horrid experience for me as well. After my first year in the Corps, life started getting better. I don’t regret any of it!
Really love your channel, and really appreciate your kind response to everyone’s questions. Even though you’re talking about military experience, what you learned through boot camp applies to everyone - military or civilian-one way or another. Thank you so much for sharing.
I wen t to boot camp in Orlando in JUL-AUG-SEP in 73. My dad was a LDO LCDR. He told me that for boot camp you just keep your head about you and pay attention to details and get through each evolution one at a time at a time. Don't worry about what happened 10 mins ago or what might happen next. Just do what you have to do now. Compartments?! We had an open bay with 70 souls in it. A couple guys were cryers and were sent home, 2 guys go caught in the same rack and they were discharged the next day. He also told me don't gamble for money, don't borrow money, don't lend money, don't take a dead horse, and don't volunteer for anything. I dit the first 4. I love every day of my 22 years. I made CTOC in 8 years and was picked for CWO2 at 14 -- both at the absolute minimum time in service allowed. The I was early selected for CWO3 & 4. CWO4 (Cryptology), USN, Ret, 73-95.
So what you do as a individual effects others. Which to me is a great lesson to learn early in life. I remember in school one kid get caught talking and whole class would have to write at the time pissed me off, but as I got older I understood.
+Austen Alexander oh yeah, good times at boot camp. I'm pretty sure I was sleepwalking through most of boot camp due to being tired all the time lol. I don't remember a whole lot when I really look back on it.
+Austen Alexander you have a good channel here man. I'm sure a lot of young sailors and future sailors really appreciate the info and positivity you're putting out here. Keep it up brother
You made it to little creek Virginia. Saw a note...funny, I saw the other video about 3 things. They could have made you leave every thing at home. Pressure. Not sure it is necessary to spit on someone.
Its crazy watching your videos, because i recently subscribed, and i love your videos. Im in the army and thinking about starting an official youtube channel for me and my wife. I enjoy scrolling back to your 'older' videos and seeing how far you have progressed at a youtuber, as far as your video production. I hope the beat for ya, and maybe we can do a few joint videos one day
+Dakota Burchett hey Dakota I really appreciate that. It’s good to have support from other service members. I recommend you start it ASAP. There is no reason not to start today...even if your first video is bad you will learn, rinse and repeat!
Hopefully get boatswains mate “ fuels” ! Didn’t score to high on my asvab but I adore battle ships and fighter jets so to see it on a daily would be a awesome!
Army basic was part of best time in Army. Had well trained NCO's who taught you. When ended up in a regular infantry unit the NCO's were a good example of the saying " Lifer a way of saying loser " Example one soldier complained to Company commander our Platoon Sargent would not talk to you unless you talked Spanish. Almost 20 years in how is that for sad.
I actually don't understand why they don't let you use your contact lenses. From experience, glasses can limit you in the sence that they can fall off, get really dirty, but with contacts everything is so much easier. I thought it is so much better using them during trainings.
Football practice and the military are alike in structure at least in the way that the ither guys are going through what you are and they havent given up and neither have you, same with the yelling
The Coast Guard is bad ass man. Semper Paratus, "always ready". They get to do a lot badass clandestine stuff you will never hear about. Drug interdiction and black ops. I worked a couple of riverine ops with them in Vietnam in 1970 and didn't even know who they were until after I got back to base. We thought they were CIA or SEAL's, found out later they were CG.
Told my kid to take his glasses off before they take his photo. Sucks if they make him use them for his photo. Petty grip but I’m glad he’s thinking about his future. Last holiday with the family before going in early 2020.
It's the MILITARY. Army Initial Entry Basic Training was great for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wish the opportunity to do it again. By the way, at the intro, it's not 8:00 o'clock, its 2000 HRS Sailor, "FORGED BY THE SEA"
I watched that video, good memories. One of the little side jobs I did when in port was drive for the Admiral and VIP's. One day the Admiral gave me a huge order for Subway for him and the staff. He gave me a credit card and had me go pick up lunch for them. Back then the cars we drove were Crysler Reliants with bullet proof glass, anyway I drive to subway in Manama get the order and when I am walking back out to the car with two huge bags of food two Humvees roll up and block me in. The MP's or shore patrol was trying to arrest me for using Government vehicles for personal business. I tried telling them who I was picking the food up for but they didn't believe me at all. It took twenty minutes with me sitting on the curb handcuffed before they got in contact with the Admiral and he told them Iwas on orders to pick up food for the staff.
Man I've really wanted to join the military but I just don't know. I know what I want to do as a career but my whole life I had wanted to join the military, but if I did the military then college it would be a long time until I have met my career goal
Can you show what the base is like? I got my orders and I’m also gonna be in Little Creek and cant find much stuff about it online. Love the content man keep it coming
Thanks John! I have already left there but I'll give you a rundown....the base is about half lit haha what I mean by that is there aren't a lot of people there. Especially during the afternoons when all the shops close up and the civilians go home. Little Creek is still better than any place in VA in my opinion because traffic doesn't get AS bad as Norfolk
I’m allergic to penicillin (I leave August 21) but as long as you tell meps you’re allergic then that will be on your paperwork and they won’t give you the shot at bootcamp
I have a question, you said something about switching mindset from civilian to military. After your training, seeing this was two years ago are you able to switch your mindset back from military to civilian at your own will? Is there some kind of factor or stimulus involved ?
I’m only 14 but I’ve been considering the Navy and it sounds like the worst thing about the military is boot camp and once you get through that it’s great. Is that true?
It mainly depends on what you do, if you love your rate then you’ll love the military, if you hate your rate then you’ll hate the military. What rate are you thinking about getting?
Old sailor here, went to boot in 1983 at the ripe age of 17 and one week. Its tough, but when you get your mind to realizing its only a couple of months (in boot) it does get easy. Look forward to your final destination, write home often and network with the other recruits. I have a daughter that leaves for Navy boot in exactly one week and I have been telling her the same thing. When do you go to boot Matthew Haddadin?
Mark is right. I got homesick when I first joined too. There will b a stage where you'll feel homesick but I looked around and realized that all of the other shipmates were going through the same thing. Its always okay to reach out to people too.

Austen, I'm a little too old to join the Military now (64 years old) but I changed a few dates and enlisted in the Navy when I was 16 years old. I thought I was already sworn in when I went to pass the physical but my recruiter told me that I had to go to San Francisco to get sworn in again. When the recruiter drove me there I was lead to an office that had a Commander and my Mom sitting there. I was shaking in my boots so much I don't know why I just didn't fall over. He said when I was done to come and see him because I would be good to go. My childhood was a bad mess because I had to raise my younger siblings. AyeMeeks Whatsup!! Yes you have to cut a 50 on your ASVAB test and also pass MA training which is very easy. I love how they took your phones away so y'all would learn to be comrades. Lol

You don’t send ur things home in a box anymore they stay on base in a box somewhere
I was in division 913. I showed up to Great Lakes on December 11, 2013. I think I almost slipped on ice after I stepped off the bus too haha
ayeeee we probably got off the bus in the same exact spot haha good times

Good to hear!! No problem
Boot camp for the most part is so sophomoric, I understand some need that but it is so pity at times.
I actually don't understand why they don't let you use your contact lenses. From experience, glasses can limit you in the sence that they can fall off, get really dirty, but with contacts everything is so much easier. I thought it is so much better using them during trainings.
Probably because when they hit you with OC peppery spray it will get absorbed in the contacts and probably would be good 😂
New subscriber from Philippines,
What brings a woman from the Philippines to videos about the U.S. military?

What a... Hard n tough training
Most horrible part for me (German Army) was Officer School and university. There‘s nothing to do and it was/is driving me crazy.
Man, I wish you had more footage of the base, I was attached to Beach Masters Unit Two while waiting to get deployed to Bahrain.
Yea but they have a really strict policy on cameras. I just uploaded a video about Bahrain though

There is nothing hard about navy boot camp lol 😂. My worst experience was getting my 214. What a mistake !
No more dog tags at bootcamp, still have the blue sweats! Still get the peanut butter shot, shit sucks!!
No more dog tags??
kindly explain the BCG more
I have a question, you said something about switching mindset from civilian to military. After your training, seeing this was two years ago are you able to switch your mindset back from military to civilian at your own will? Is there some kind of factor or stimulus involved ?
If you need to say something straight up along the lines of suicide. Just give it to me straight
please make another video on all your boot camp storieeeees! Love your channel :)
I hope they let you take the pics with your contacts after all that.
What is that watch you are wearing in this video?
It's a Garmin Fenix 3HR. It's not my favorite. Suunto is better in my opinion
Worst part for me is not being able to just take leave whenever you want

@tyrese smith can't you get kicked out of the Navy for paying for escorts while in service.
@tyrese smith I'm not being the moral police. I'm in the DEP for the Navy, and in one of the videos I had to watch, briefly covered active duty members getting in trouble for seeing escorts. Hey man, if u don't mind me asking, why is the penicillin shot so bad? Like does it hurt or something?
to be honest yes it hurts a bit. The penicillin is extra thick and they use a bigger needle to administer it because it is so thick. That's why you will hear people call it the "peanut butter" shot because pb is so thick. Don't stress it though. I've had only one in 5 years
I flinched when the corpsman stuck me with the peanut butter shot and he pushed all of the medicine in at once-definitely the worst shot you're given.
