#1: 3:55 Hurry up and wait
    #2: 4:55 Nothing is guaranteed
    #3: 6:55 Training
The military uses you as an asset to complete missions. You’re a cog that is supposed to help the military machine working. You work for the military not the other way around. Btw I’m serving active atm.
#1. You get paid to follow orders, you won’t ever work more than 8-12 hours (w/o commanders orders). It’s not bad, just do what they tell you to do as long as it’s lawful.
#2 They will put you where you are needed, if you are good they will listen to you more to keep you in and vise versa.
#3 training is standardized and you can take it as seriously as you want, wonder why we always get briefed on sexual assault? Because people don’t take it seriously, instead they complain that we get it so often and rape happens (more often in the navy and marines statistically, least in the army)

I couldn't have said it any better. You'll also find your three Navy "gripes" can also apply to the civilian workforce. (When it came to requesting assignments in the air force, it was realistically called a 'dream sheet". And surprise! I got what I asked for.)

Hey Austen. I just want to thank you for putting out these videos. I found your channel about a month or two ago and can't get enough of them. The deployment one really amazed me; great footage, editing, and music. But above all that, thank you for being a positive role model and someone I can look up to (I hope that doesn't sound lame). My life has been pretty rough and I've always taken care of everyone else. Joining the Navy is the first thing I've ever done for myself and I really can't wait. 26 days! Your videos have helped ease my mind, but your positivity is what really makes the difference. Yes, I may have gone through hard times but I can still find beauty in every day life if I choose to do so. Starting now, I'm going to seek it out. Maybe I'll get to meet you someday in the fleet, but for now...thank you.

I've only been in three months and I've notice (1)communication is a big problem. You have to know your sh!t, and learn it fast. I didn't realize how (2a)immature people are in the military. Some people I think to myself, is like you're really suppose to protect our country. (2b) I hate being around those people who break rules, and try to label everyone a snitch who tells on them. People put you in an awkward situation. I'm not a snitch or blue falcon, but you're not bringing me down with you.

Hurry up and wait is a logistical necessity...unfortunately. There are only so many ways to move troops around, be it vehicals, road space, parking lot spaces etc. many factors can intersperse in many ways. Getting large groups ready at sepperate predetermined times makes success more likely; Many are the examples. As such, many leaders learn at different times and to different degrees, the value of prepreparedness. Thus...some hurry up and wait happened to me because there weren't enough busses for schedualed departures and some happened because some 2nd LT had his first command orders and wanted to make a great first impression...but was a bit too stressed to make a good call.

Austen, i really enjoy your Vids, I retired navy in 1991, as a AK1, But before i crossed over to the NAV, I was a U S MARINE, Yes good ole 1968 San Diego Hollywood Marine, Sad thing about my 4 years in the Corps, i was trained for Supply 3041, Did not see one single day of my MOS, Straight to NAM, Combat Ops with 3rd Mar Div, wasn’t the most exciting time of my life, Especially after receiving orders to NAS LEMOORE, where Marines Guarded gates and our special weapons, 1970-72 Lemoore was very interesting to say the least, Anyway my point is Hurry up and wait can really be related to SNAFU and or FUBAR with an occasional BOHICA, My 23 years serving our country was extremely gratifying, My Navy tours sent me all over the world, I especially liked the NE tail code on the legacy hornet making the trap on C. Vinson, Uss Ranger had that CVW when i was on her, Anyway The point of my lengthy comments is that Memorable times have been shared by all, and we make our careers short or extensive, We have fun in what we choose to do, as i approach my 70th year on this fine planet, i look back on all those memories some sad many not so sad, live one day at a time, SEMPER FI my brothers and sisters, Fair winds and following seas. 🇺🇸

There is only one thing I dislike about the military - I will either be directly or indirectly compelled to potentially take somebody's life, or be part of the process that leads to loss of life. Virtually everything else about the military is amazing: knowing what to do exactly how to advance, camaraderie, self-discipline etc. But that one thing made the military a no go for me.

First, keep your positive attitude and continue to focus on the positive. Learn to turn the negative to positive as much as possible. Nothing at all wrong with that. I used to tell my Marines that you learn from the good leaders and the bad leaders. The right things to do and how to correct the wrong things. Secondly lol, sorry to say but those items are not a military issue. It's even worse in the civilian life. You want to get something started and going. You give a time to be there and leave and people come trickling in on their schedule. You mentioned repeatedly training on some of the same subjects. Well again, it's worse in the civilian life plus it's mandatory and up to you to get done and your boss will be on you about it. The other thing, promises or misleading information...again it's worse. You are lucky to get the information you need and desire. People back stab and miss lead . Then spring new information on you. Management is scary. In the military there is leadership training and you have good and not so good leaders. But even your poorest leader is better than most managers in the civilian world. They solely have the position of management because they have a degree or ownership of the company...not in the majority of the time..based on experience and ability. The positive...Use your military career to advance your abilities as a leader, and become technically and tactically proficient in your abilities. Even if you plan to do something different on the outside. Your leadership skills are valuable. Increase your education and rank accordingly. Again it's what makes you marketable on the outside. Expand your abilities and use every program available to you in the military. Because when you take that final walk down the gangblank, you're done. But then if you planned properly you will be prepared for the new chapter and challenge.
Thanks for not whining...that solves nothing.

Being ship's company, the thing I disliked most was lazy dirtbag people who refuse to work and constantly skate off. This sounds extremely negative (and it is) but after a few years as you gain rank, it will drive you nuts.

You’re in the world’s best military. No reason to complain. The Navy gives you all the skills and opportunities to become a well rounded, self sufficient person. Just get educated as much as you can before you enlist. If you are in now, ask questions to get better. The info is there. Talk to positive people who have been in way longer than 5 years and plan on staying in. I’ve been in for 15+ years. Gonna be nice having that pension soon.

You seem like a cool dude but most people watch your videos because of the Navy content. By you leaving the navy youre going to lose alot of your old subscribers.im sure you'll gain new ones if you come out with some interesting content. I just hope you dont think that a young guy who subscribed for navy info is going to stick around to watch you vlog. Its sad youre leaving. It's like you got a little taste of success with youtube and left your career.
