It looks like a classic. And what's wrong with that!? My wife isn't a super-model. But she looks like one! And I LOVE that.😀 Steinharts are awesome watches.
I wear watches out to dinners or events where I don’t want to be glued to my phone. So these more affordable watches are great without breaking the bank.
Wrong re the water resistance and comparing it to a Sinn that costs 5x more? It’s a well made Explorer homage for a small fraction of the cost of the “real” thing. It sounds like your real issue is that you don’t like homage watches. I have a Rolex and it is an excellent watch. But Rolex prices and availability issues, including AD price gouging mean that I won’t buy them anymore. I was very happy to be able to get this very well made Steinhart.
An Explorer cost $150 USD in the late fifties. That's $1300 in today's money (as per inflation calculator). At the $6500 they're charging today, we're being bent over and given the big one SIDEWAYS! A high quality homage for $500-600 is a prayer answered. It's just a shame they don't do a 36mm version. It seems anything iconic has been stupidly overpriced. Burberry trench coats, Globetrotter luggage etc. Thank G_D for good homages.
It is rated for 10 ATM ie. a watch that has ATM 5 can withstand the pressure of 40 meters of water depth or to put it another way; a watch with 10 ATM, the watch can be used both for swimming and in the bath as well as for diving with a snorkel in shallow water.
It’s good looking - Steinhart makes probably the best Rolex homages, the GMTs look amazing - and the finishing is superb, but yeah, still, a little originality would take this to the next level….
@@AndyinSG Certainly not, I’m sure the money they make are as good as the watches, and at the end of the day every company has to look at the bottom line.
I totally love the Adventure. Purchased one from Gnomon when they first came out. For me, it's simple. Not everyone can afford to drop $7k to $8k (USD) for the original 'R' watch, so the Steinhart is a solid alternative. It's a fun, sporty, low-bling, low-profile tool watch that puts a smile on my face. Nice review, I've liked & subscribed.
Thanks so much for your support! Yes, totally agree with you. Not everyone wants to drop that amount on a watch so these homage models will please some fans out there. Enjoy your Steiny!
I've a lot of Explorer Homages including the Sinn 556i, and i think this is very compelling. Although, it's just a place holder and I think it will never fully satisfy someone really trying to get an Explorer. It's an aspirational piece and you're probably going to go for that main course, even if the Steinhart is a nice appetiser.
I agree with you about the exception lettering, but I love the overall look (this is the look of a watch I most love) and can’t afford a Rolex Explorer (it’s not identical), so it’s a no brainer.
This is a homage model from a homage brand, so the amount of narrative on the dial is to be expected. I know San Martins are very good quality, however, I agree that for a little bit more one is a getting a watch from the Swiss Watch Valley in Steinhart- albeit from a homage brand!!
Totally agree on the quality of the Steinharts. I have San Martin watches and I can confirm that the Steinharts have better build quality. Definitely worth paying more for the Swiss Made one in this case.
Just FYI… I think most if not all of these watches come with a Sellita SW200-1 elaboré grade. These movements are really well-regulated without having the chronometer-grade cost.
I’m not sure why you are complaining about the fact that it looks very much like a Rolex when Steinhardt is basically a Rolex homage watch company. That is what they do.
I got this watch a few months ago, and it's my second Steinhart watch. I have two San Martin watches too. And while San Martin is really great watches for the money, Steinhart definitely is a step up in quality and finish. Yes, a step up in price as well. When it comes to this watch I personally wish it had a flat crystal instead of the quite strongly domed crystal. Or at least a less domed shape. Domed crystal can look nice but reflections are more difficult to avoid. Otherwise it's a very nice watch.
You’re absolutely right about the quality of the Steinhart, as well as the crystal. The reflections can get quite annoying at some angles or light conditions. I think it’s more of aesthetics when you use a high dome crystal. Congrats on your collection. Wear them in good health.
I only buy homage watches that are as close to the original, it's not a replica, or fake, andvthat makes all the difference. People are buying homages non-stop, so the market dictates thats what sells.
Nice video. $739 is quite pricey for an homage watch. Yes, it about 10% of the real deal; but the real deal is also too expensive for what it is. The specs on the Steinhart are good and I'd go as high as $200 for this watch. I paid $100 for an Alpha Explorer 39mm and it cured me of the Explorer obsession. I know now that I would have regretted paying nearly 100 times the price for the real deal. The Steinhart is nice, but too expensive.
Proportion is off, and a bit too thick. One thing that prevent me from buying Steinhart is the lug. I'm not sure if they are just being lazy as all the watches they have basically the same mid case and straight lugs. I don't have any problem with homage brands, I just don't have any respect for them. No creativity and no identity at all.
For this model (39mm), the rather straight mid-case/lugs do not pose a problem. I’d think 42mm cases suffer more. I guess if you’re nearing 50mm without a down curve on the lugs, you’ll definitely get some overhang.
Hi Paul. What is your wrist size? I have 6,7"/17cm wrist and have two 39mm Steinharts. Yes, the lugs are pretty straight, but no problem at all for me. Maybe the 42mm versions with 3mm longer lug to lug will be too much, I have not tried. But I think with 6,3"/16cm or larger wrist the 39mm Steinharts should be ok.
I don't like the watch. Lugs, dimensions, etc. Regardless, stating it's close to the fake territory is a stretch imo. The explorer has been way long in production for it to matter. If it were a newly produced watch I get it, but omg, it's been a while, who cares at this point.
I guess some people can accept homages of discontinued watches. That’s what this one is about. The 39mm Explorer was retired last year. So maybe that’s why Steinhart brought out this model. Regardless, buy what we like. It’s a personal thing.
It looks like a classic. And what's wrong with that!? My wife isn't a super-model. But she looks like one! And I LOVE that.😀 Steinharts are awesome watches.

Well said. Maybe the sales figures dictate the direction of the designs. We can’t fault a company for that.

That’s really good stuff from Steinhart. Good to have added accuracy and better decorations anyway.

If 904L stainless is used and the case thickness is controlled, the model will be the number one.

Check out Gnomon Watches.
Steinhart needs to redesign its logo . This is the main reason I didn’t buy its watches for the last 6 years
Looks like a pineapple to me.
Would be good if they apply their watchmaking finesse to more original designs.
If you look on the Webside of Steinhart you will see that the Finish of the Watch is bad. It is brushed badly.
I handled the watch in person and I thought finishing was good. Maybe they used a sample piece for the photoshoot. Just maybe.
