I LOVE when collectibles yield concept art or behind the scenes stuff. Sly Cooper and Spyro have always been so satisfying to complete for that reason.
I never had a PlayStation growing up, so I don't have the nostalgia for Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. But damn, this Spyro remake is FUN and it looks like a Pixar movie.

Same here! Played Sly (my favorite), Jak & Daxter, Ratchet, and crash but for some reason never played these besides the demo codes in the crash games. I am absolutely having a blast playing it!!!
3:07 Why do so many people get this wrong? Spyro and crash were NEVER owned by their creators. It was universal studios who own them since their inceptions. Also Activision didn't get spyro and crash until the mid 2000s.

Also, considering that the Skylanders IP was big hit for a while is proof that Activision at least made something fun for a big crowd. Credit earned where credit due.
Spyro 1 was my first 3D game, and I almost started crying as soon as the reignited trilogy started up in artisans. Toys For Bob brought the magic back!

Obviously he's not working an oil rig, but its not like planning schedules, managing employees, working on multiple projects at once, staying up late doing tedious tasks in games, writing 20 minute show episodes multiple times a week, and video editing various shows is a small workload.

His job is a manager, editor, writer, producer, actor, and labor (playing the games). He states how long he spends on these games and have you seen the totals for some?! Thousands of hours.

The amount of hours and stress that goes into each episode is something that many cant do, which is why people watch. Show some respect, and maybe drop the edgy cynicism. Work is work, man. Physical difficulty has nothing to do with the toll long hours can take on you.
Out of everything in the remaster, the levels impressed me the most. Enjoyed seeing you complete this on steam, hope to see the rest of the trilogy some day!

Honestly the first time I played the remaster, I think I was mad. I was mad at myself for thinking that no one could ever make something from my childhood better. After every terrible rehash,reboot,remake, destruction of everything I loved as a kid. I wasn't ready for how Impressive this remaster really is. You can just tell after playing the first world, how much effort was put into this remake. Imo I think they definitely spent more time on the first game, but after 100% all 3 games, and only one noticable frame rate drop in spyro 3, and almost being brought to tears jamming the classic soundtrack of my youth. I'd say this was a pretty damn good remaster. Thank you toys for bob.
It definitely has a certain charm to it, but I must say the graphical improvement in the remake is outstanding. It's not often a developer captures the art style and spirit of a game being brought back by a remake.

Spyro was always a weird game for me because the first game is probably the PS1 game I played the most, but I never actually played the sequels. It was a game I had just as much fun running around the hub world as I did actually playing it, which I found out years later was their goal all along. Awesome video, Jirard.
This trilogy brought me so much joy, completing the remaster is just simply fun all around. I can't wait for Spyro 4! They nailed Crash 4 so I feel like chances are good Spyro 4 will be what we all want.
This game remaster on PS4 was actually my first platinum trophy. The game was so fun and simple and easy. I enjoyed the game so much, and it made me a trophy hunter, which is good or bad. Anyway, yeah. Good game
Besides early ps1 demo disks. This was my first real venture into Spyro games and I had an absolute blast. It was a fun and beautiful experience, so much so I bought it again on my switch just to be able to play it on the go. I hope we get a new Spyro like we did with Crash.
While I enjoyed the Sly Trilogy on PS3, I can't deny a complete Sly remaster isn't appealing. Maybe remaster all 4 games, where they could add in the content they had to cut in Sly 4? If they did do a remaster of that series, I'd want Sly Cooper to be able to take more hits than he could in the first game too.
I mean, I don't know about others, but because of it is PS2 era, it looks good in my eyes. I don't find any need to have it remastered. It still looks good. I love Sly to death, but it still doesn't really make me want to have a remastered version. That cartoony vibe works still fantastically.
1 point I wanted to point out: Steve Copeland's contribution was primarily consultation on the remastered compositions by Toys For Bob, and even then it was periodic not as a full time member of the team. The only remastering he did himself was creating a new track as a theme for the entire trilogy, which you hear on the main menu/game/save selection screens. Basically what I'm saying is he gave feedback on the remastered tracks made by someone else at Toys For Bob and contributed one new track.
Just to add to what everyone has said, in the second game, it was a "cheat." You could press and hold L1, L2, R1, and R2 simultaneously at any point in the game and Sparx would do it. In the third game though, it became an unlockable skill after you beat the second boss and subsequent Sparx boss
Yea never knew he could do this until the reignited trilogy and figured it out on Riptos Rage. Ive completed Spyro 1 and 2 multiple times and never knew this.
I just finished playing the first game of the trilogy (never played any before), and it was phenomial! Not too hard (except for a couple superjumps). I can't wait to go back and complete it (just the 100%ing the flight stages to go)!
This episode and the release of the Reignited Trilogy happened to come at a time that when I'd coincidentally just happened to start a replay of my old PS1 copy of Spyro 1 our of Nostalgia and curiosity about how it holds up nowadays, without being aware that Reignited had just released. I 100% completed it in about 2 weeks, and was impressed with how good it still felt; I could really appreciate the skills of the level designers a lot more than I could as a kid, and with my adult attention to detail I had much less trouble collecting 100% of the gems than I did my first time through. Even the shoulder button camera controls didn't bother me as much as I thought they would at the beginning; my only real complaint was the game's habit of putting ledges at the very limit of the distance you could possibly reach them, so for almost every single glide you had to make sure to time your glide from the very peak your jump, combined with the fact that if you fall just short of a ledge it totally LOOKS like you should be able to scramble onto it but instead Spyro just bumps against it like a paper airplane and stupidly sinks to his death. I heard the reignited trilogy improves that by giving you a little more margin of error for getting onto edges, which should make the game a lot less frustrating to me. I would've wanted to revisit the version I remembered even if I'd been aware of Reignited, but I may pick up Reignited some time to play through Spyro 2 and 3, which I never owned on the PS1.

As for the why, the reason is, that the game was originally supposed to release with only Spyro the Dragon with the other two games being released as DLC as they were finished. However, due to public outcry about this method, they delayed the game for 2 months, hardly enough to (almost) finish Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage and release the whole package at once... despite the fact that the second and third game are still downloads. In other words, 3 is currently a rushed-out-the-door Beta version. Sanzaru isn't a bad developer... as long as you keept them away from storytelling... but they have the approach of 'make it so it works and then fix the bugs'-method of software development meaning... when they get caught by a deadline or rushed by limited funding... there will be quite a few bugs around when released. For the record, that's actually not a bad way to develope software, it reduces the likeliness of a project being cancelled altogether and if completely pulled through, produces just as good a product... the problem is when you can't pull all the way through the development cycle for one reason or the other which causes a complete, but unpolished product.

Still a shame they wound up censoring the design of the original game a bit, but I was oddly really happy to see they kept in those enemies that drop-trow and moon you, lol!
Why have a team if they can't even do basic research? Stewart Copeland didn't came back to update his music, he just did a new track. The Reignited ost was remade by some random guy who was generous enough to place the original's tracks in the game as an option. And no, the reignited music doesn't sound better.You're actually the first person I saw saying that and considering you hated Spyro 3 I prefer to think you have a problem Jirard, but that's just me.
The fact that I would've had to download most of 2 and 3 made me cancel my pre-order. I pre-ordered immediately when it went up on Amazon, too. But I can't justify giving money to Activision for that shadiness. If their servers go down (for good) and my PS4's hard drive dies, I paid $40 for essentially one, short game.

Why not just put them on 2 discs then? :( since companies complain about putting stuff on cartridges for being to costly to do and discs are the cheaper better solution apparently. Why not put them on multiple discs?
my first ps1 game and first 3d experience with a console was the second spyro game, Ripto's Rage. the franchise got nostalgic to me, even though I get a killing headache in 3min if I try to play any of the ps1 ones lol Loved the video, as always! keep up the nice stuff
Sparx could do the "point at gems" thing since Spyro 2 (albeit by holding down L1+L2+R1+R2 rather than L3), but I'm glad they added it into Spyro 1 in the Reignited Trilogy.
Yes but as a fan of the borderlands games it would take long to do as theres a lot of achievements and what about weapons and legendaries and leveling characters and all that type of jazz... Just a lot to do you know?
I personally think completing Borderlands game means this (Im gonna use Borderlands 2 Vanila as an example) You don't have to level up every Vault Hunter to max, the game only rewards you for reaching LVL 50 once. However you will need to use Original 4 Vault Hunter's for their exclusive Achievements. You need to complete every Side Quest once. Finish the Story. There are challenges in the game so Reach LVL1 on every challenge. Finish ULVH Difficulty. Unlock all achievements. Kill all Raid Bosses (Tera)
About Sparxs ability to point out the gems. It was originally an ability to unlock via Sparx levels in Spyro 3. Although it was a command available without introduction in Spyro 2 the whole game as well
Dude between the Crash and Spyro remasters I'm feeling like I'm gonna relive a childhood I never had. I never had a ps1 as a kid so getting to experience these games for the first time in such a polished and beautiful way makes me super excited!

I tried both Spyro and Crash for the first time on Switch with the remasters. Never played the originals on PS. I have to say, I really, really, really prefer Spyro's collectathon style to Crash's "get to the end" style. To me Spyro is sm64 and Crash is super mario 3d world. No comparison at all, Spyro's way more fun for me. (that's becuase I have NO SKILL)
You know everyone was all hyped about crash, but I didn't experience much crash outside of one handheld game. He wasn't something I was excited for. But Spyro… Not only did I like his handhelds games better -even though they are probably really bad if I were to try to go back and play them-, but man did he catch my awe and attention as a small child. I had to have been 4 or 3 or maybe younger when I first saw him, and he dazzled me. This is the one that excites me - even if I can't play it
You are the second person reviewing this game that I have seen mentioning the ability to point Sparx at the nearest gem and calling it new. This feature was in the original trilogy too. Not sure about the first game, but it was definitely in 2 and 3.
I grew up with the original Spyro trilogy and they played a massive part in my childhood. Because of that I’m always going to prefer them, as nostalgia is a pretty strong weapon. That said there’s no denying that on a technical level the reignited trilogy puts the originals to shame. But due to the nostalgia and the fact that teamsters gave me an ‘uncanny valley’ feel they’re not so good for me personally. Though I’d definitely recommend anyone getting into the series starting with the remaster.
I grew up since the Atari (I'm 34), and I never played the Spyro/Crash/Banjo/Ratchet/etc. games. I never even heard of them until a decade ago when I saw them on Games Done Quick.
That Treetop level....I have PTSD from trying to do that last Charge Puzzle Dragon and bit of treasure...that was just a brutal puzzle when the game first came out.
I just finished the 1st in the remastered doing 120% on PC. I don't care about the achievements on steam, but it felt nice that the game was easy to complete by just playing the game, it took me around 8 hours. Great game, and great video!
And I only started playing Spyro 2 when I was young when it was on the PlayStation. I already beaten the Spyro reignited trilogy the first,second and third games. Save or got all dragons, orbs and eggs form both the first and third games. All gems and all skill points as well all the trophies form all three.
I used to think Spyro was super cool as a kid, even though I never played any of his games and only saw him in promotional material and box art covers in video rental stores.
I think my only complaint about Spyro is something the originals (2 and 3) had was disjointed side quests that you had to do, the first one was simplistic and could be completed rather easily without dealing with annoying mini games.
In this case I'd emphasize that Reignited is a remake, not a remaster. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but this plays into one of the most impressive things about the game: Although Toys for Bob worked together with Insomniac Games to “get Spyro right” (which is also awesome), Insomniac had lost the source code to the original trilogy. They had to resort to using an emulator program to snag the wire frames of the stage and characters... but it couldn't rip the physics and enemy AI. So Toys For Bob was building the game almost entirely from scratch. Serious respect from me. 👍🏻
Insomniac added the sparx gem finder thing in the original Riptos Rage. Toys for Bob just made it usable in all games. However it is a fantastic remake and I loved getting 120% on it.
Reingnited was way more fun than it deserved to be, I played all the originals as a kid and as an adult I can now claim I’ve completed each of the three games, loved the whole experience
Well to bring good news, there is a toggle for motion blur now along with an option for subtitles! Now granted because the motion blur was making some low fps some may not like it, but having the toggle is great especially for screenshots without the blur.
I noticed this for a while, but props to putting credits on the beginning of your video unlike your boy MatPat. I hate he says "I" like he does all research himself. Once you notice this, it's hard to avoid hearing it when watching GT.

They need to make Remakes of the Suikoden Games, Megaman Legends games (Including Misadventures of Tron Bonne.), and the Legacy of Kain franchise.

The art style still looks good today much like Wind Waker I don't see much changing. We do have the HD trilogy on ps3.

The Gem Radar ability was something added starting in the second game. Completely new for the first remastered game.

Just to add to what everyone has said, in the second game, it was a "cheat." You could press and hold L1, L2, R1, and R2 simultaneously at any point in the game and Sparx would do it. In the third game though, it became an unlockable skill after you beat the second boss and subsequent Sparx boss
Yea never knew he could do this until the reignited trilogy and figured it out on Riptos Rage. Ive completed Spyro 1 and 2 multiple times and never knew this.
I just finished playing the first game of the trilogy (never played any before), and it was phenomial! Not too hard (except for a couple superjumps). I can't wait to go back and complete it (just the 100%ing the flight stages to go)!
Now we just need to get Legend of Spyro reginited.

This episode and the release of the Reignited Trilogy happened to come at a time that when I'd coincidentally just happened to start a replay of my old PS1 copy of Spyro 1 our of Nostalgia and curiosity about how it holds up nowadays, without being aware that Reignited had just released. I 100% completed it in about 2 weeks, and was impressed with how good it still felt; I could really appreciate the skills of the level designers a lot more than I could as a kid, and with my adult attention to detail I had much less trouble collecting 100% of the gems than I did my first time through. Even the shoulder button camera controls didn't bother me as much as I thought they would at the beginning; my only real complaint was the game's habit of putting ledges at the very limit of the distance you could possibly reach them, so for almost every single glide you had to make sure to time your glide from the very peak your jump, combined with the fact that if you fall just short of a ledge it totally LOOKS like you should be able to scramble onto it but instead Spyro just bumps against it like a paper airplane and stupidly sinks to his death. I heard the reignited trilogy improves that by giving you a little more margin of error for getting onto edges, which should make the game a lot less frustrating to me. I would've wanted to revisit the version I remembered even if I'd been aware of Reignited, but I may pick up Reignited some time to play through Spyro 2 and 3, which I never owned on the PS1.
Carefull, Spyro 3 developed mostly be Sanzaru games is VERY Buggy and glitchy right now. Play 1 and 2, but wait for a patch on 3.

As for the why, the reason is, that the game was originally supposed to release with only Spyro the Dragon with the other two games being released as DLC as they were finished.
However, due to public outcry about this method, they delayed the game for 2 months, hardly enough to (almost) finish Spyro 2 Ripto's Rage and release the whole package at once... despite the fact that the second and third game are still downloads.
In other words, 3 is currently a rushed-out-the-door Beta version.
Sanzaru isn't a bad developer... as long as you keept them away from storytelling... but they have the approach of 'make it so it works and then fix the bugs'-method of software development meaning... when they get caught by a deadline or rushed by limited funding... there will be quite a few bugs around when released.
For the record, that's actually not a bad way to develope software, it reduces the likeliness of a project being cancelled altogether and if completely pulled through, produces just as good a product... the problem is when you can't pull all the way through the development cycle for one reason or the other which causes a complete, but unpolished product.

spyro 2 was my childhood, that clip of the prehistoric level brought tears to grown mans eyes. i can't wait to be able to get this game.

The gem radar Sparx was actually an upgrade skill in Spyro 3, but it's neat to have it as a default.

Why have a team if they can't even do basic research? Stewart Copeland didn't came back to update his music, he just did a new track. The Reignited ost was remade by some random guy who was generous enough to place the original's tracks in the game as an option. And no, the reignited music doesn't sound better.You're actually the first person I saw saying that and considering you hated Spyro 3 I prefer to think you have a problem Jirard, but that's just me.

It's funny the beard you gave Spyro in the thumbnail is almost similar to the scale beard he has in his concept art as an adult.
The fact that I would've had to download most of 2 and 3 made me cancel my pre-order. I pre-ordered immediately when it went up on Amazon, too. But I can't justify giving money to Activision for that shadiness. If their servers go down (for good) and my PS4's hard drive dies, I paid $40 for essentially one, short game.

Why not just put them on 2 discs then? :( since companies complain about putting stuff on cartridges for being to costly to do and discs are the cheaper better solution apparently. Why not put them on multiple discs?
The GanJiCiAn they intentionally didn’t put them all on one or multiple disks so they could pay less for a smaller disk for the game and save money

my first ps1 game and first 3d experience with a console was the second spyro game, Ripto's Rage. the franchise got nostalgic to me, even though I get a killing headache in 3min if I try to play any of the ps1 ones lol

Sparx could do the "point at gems" thing since Spyro 2 (albeit by holding down L1+L2+R1+R2 rather than L3), but I'm glad they added it into Spyro 1 in the Reignited Trilogy.

Yes but as a fan of the borderlands games it would take long to do as theres a lot of achievements and what about weapons and legendaries and leveling characters and all that type of jazz... Just a lot to do you know?

My favorite game of all time is Borderlands 2, but getting all 6 Vault Hunters to op8 takes a shit ton of time

Dude between the Crash and Spyro remasters I'm feeling like I'm gonna relive a childhood I never had. I never had a ps1 as a kid so getting to experience these games for the first time in such a polished and beautiful way makes me super excited!

I remember after seeing Crash last year I was so anxious to get news of a Spyro remaster.
I finally 100% COMPLETED my first game EVER!! Reignited Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!! All PS4 Trophies too! All thanks to your awesome channel, and had a BLAST doing it!
My two major gripes are the way the speedways play, and the fact that they changed the purple gem color. I miss that bold magenta so badly

I tried both Spyro and Crash for the first time on Switch with the remasters. Never played the originals on PS.
I have to say, I really, really, really prefer Spyro's collectathon style to Crash's "get to the end" style. To me Spyro is sm64 and Crash is super mario 3d world. No comparison at all, Spyro's way more fun for me. (that's becuase I have NO SKILL)
Also amazed you didn't mention how Spyro changes based on his power ups where before he just changed color
You know everyone was all hyped about crash, but I didn't experience much crash outside of one handheld game. He wasn't something I was excited for. But Spyro… Not only did I like his handhelds games better -even though they are probably really bad if I were to try to go back and play them-, but man did he catch my awe and attention as a small child. I had to have been 4 or 3 or maybe younger when I first saw him, and he dazzled me. This is the one that excites me - even if I can't play it
You are the second person reviewing this game that I have seen mentioning the ability to point Sparx at the nearest gem and calling it new.
This feature was in the original trilogy too. Not sure about the first game, but it was definitely in 2 and 3.
I left 4 gems in Gnasty Gnorc and was furious when I had to go back and find them whilst doing the trophies. Little did I know how lucky I'd been...
I grew up with the original Spyro trilogy and they played a massive part in my childhood. Because of that I’m always going to prefer them, as nostalgia is a pretty strong weapon. That said there’s no denying that on a technical level the reignited trilogy puts the originals to shame.
But due to the nostalgia and the fact that teamsters gave me an ‘uncanny valley’ feel they’re not so good for me personally. Though I’d definitely recommend anyone getting into the series starting with the remaster.
What jirard said about future Spyro and crash games is exactly what I think! Bring us new Spyro and crash games with new engines!
I grew up since the Atari (I'm 34), and I never played the Spyro/Crash/Banjo/Ratchet/etc. games. I never even heard of them until a decade ago when I saw them on Games Done Quick.

That Treetop level....I have PTSD from trying to do that last Charge Puzzle Dragon and bit of treasure...that was just a brutal puzzle when the game first came out.
I was always scared of the spiders in the cave level as a kid lol they move so fast!

I just finished the 1st in the remastered doing 120% on PC. I don't care about the achievements on steam, but it felt nice that the game was easy to complete by just playing the game, it took me around 8 hours.

I would like to say that the motion blur now has an option. Don't let that be something that changes your mind about playing this game, it is amazing.
And I only started playing Spyro 2 when I was young when it was on the PlayStation. I already beaten the Spyro reignited trilogy the first,second and third games. Save or got all dragons, orbs and eggs form both the first and third games. All gems and all skill points as well all the trophies form all three.
Loved the 90's best time of my childhood Spyro, Crash, Medievil, Oddworld, also loved Reignited Trilogy made me go back and reply the original Trilogy

I think my only complaint about Spyro is something the originals (2 and 3) had was disjointed side quests that you had to do, the first one was simplistic and could be completed rather easily without dealing with annoying mini games.
In this case I'd emphasize that Reignited is a remake, not a remaster. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal about it, but this plays into one of the most impressive things about the game:
Although Toys for Bob worked together with Insomniac Games to “get Spyro right” (which is also awesome), Insomniac had lost the source code to the original trilogy. They had to resort to using an emulator program to snag the wire frames of the stage and characters... but it couldn't rip the physics and enemy AI.
So Toys For Bob was building the game almost entirely from scratch. Serious respect from me. 👍🏻

Insomniac added the sparx gem finder thing in the original Riptos Rage. Toys for Bob just made it usable in all games. However it is a fantastic remake and I loved getting 120% on it.
Reingnited was way more fun than it deserved to be, I played all the originals as a kid and as an adult I can now claim I’ve completed each of the three games, loved the whole experience
I remember being a completionist when playing this game series. This one wasn't too tough, frustrating but not impossible.
Well to bring good news, there is a toggle for motion blur now along with an option for subtitles! Now granted because the motion blur was making some low fps some may not like it, but having the toggle is great especially for screenshots without the blur.
I noticed this for a while, but props to putting credits on the beginning of your video unlike your boy MatPat. I hate he says "I" like he does all research himself. Once you notice this, it's hard to avoid hearing it when watching GT.
