Surprised you didn't mention the unused dialogue in Spyro 2, which had Elora explain how most of the worlds' fallouts were caused by Ripto messing up systems or playing mean pranks to turn everyone against each other. That's even more intriguing a tidbit with the knowledge that Spyro was meant to be a kinda mean spirited prankster originally, furthers the idea that Ripto was meant to be this evil counterpart for Spyro that represented all his least likeable qualities. A little guy that bullied big guys.
That unused dialogue would explain why there's some discourse between the creatures. It would also explain that one sentence where Elora mentions the creatures of Avalar were "starting to get along" at the end of Gulp's boss battle.
Another thing to add to this: the bulls from Town Square have the red tips on their horns for blood in the NTSC version. But for the PAL version that was removed.
About the bipedal dragons in Spyro for the ps1, there actually were a handful of dragons that did stand on all fours, such as Gavin from Stone hill, Gunnar in peace keepers, Halvor in cliff town, and Sadiki in metalhead. Though all of these were changed in reignited to stand on two legs.

I worked on Spyro from the very beginning and really enjoyed watching this! I would like to make a correction on something that has become a very common mistold story. We never intended "Pete" to be the actual name, it was meant as joke and only a working title/place holder. That being said, after working on the game for months and months when the time came for a real name, it was VERY hard to call him anything other than Pete. It was someone at Sony that got the credit for coming up with the name, which kind of upset Brian Hastings becaue he had pitched the name Spyro several months before and no one had liked it! Also, regarding the carved names "Bryan" and "Brenda". I was the artist who built those levels and had carved my son's name into Summer Forest. Oliver noticed and approached me he telling me he had a son by the same name and asked if I could also carve his daughter's name someplace. I was VERY excited to first hear about Reignited, and think TFB has done an wonderful job... for the most part. My biggest complaint is Spyro's color. They made him FUCHSIA!?!? I'm also not keen on some of the other palette changes they made through out the levels, but I am glad the game is out there and reintroducing Spyro to the next generation!!

It's not accessible without hacking the game. That final fact was something else. Good find.
In the greatest hits version of Spyro 3 for PS1 they did add it back after they had to fix the music for some levels including the final boss level when they got back the serious music over the first over world music. And finding out that Spyro was supposedly to be 113 years old while still a young child reminds me of The Smurfs and how long they live. I’m assuming it’s based again on a theory or stereotype that Dragons live forever regardless of age. Like a baby dragon can still be a child but their age is 113 years old. So that would have been interesting lore for Spyro had they made his age canon. Instead his age is never revealed properly because it’s a kids game and we don’t have to think about it 😅
To add onto the Sheila level being a reference to Crash Bandicoot, in the pause menu, they list names for each egg's challenge, and in the case of both of the ones for that, they're called "Krash Kangaroo" I & II respectively. Also to go with this the FPS area with Agent 9 also has it's egg's challenge name is a reference as well, this time to the Doom series, as its called "You're Doomed!" & "You're Still Doomed!"

If you get a life by any other means while having a life count over 99, however, it'll drop it back down to 99, and as you can't redo skillponts in Spyro 2, that means the little Easter Egg is gone for good. This wasn't carried over into Reignited. Crash had background cameos in the DS version of A New Beginning, and the console versions of The Eternal Night, along with a little side story that explained that Crash found out that a version his buddy Spyro was in trouble, and thus universe hopped over to the Legend of Spyro world to go and help him out! ...Only to end up getting stuck in trouble (Getting captured by enemies, and being frozen under ice). Interesting fun fact: Toys for Bob, the developers of the Reignited trilogy, where brought on board Blizzards main development team for World of Warcraft during their development of Dragonflight. You can see ALLOT of the direct inspirations and homages to Spyro in the expansion if you know where to look!
Thats reminding me of the old and (very) unsung game Metal Arms: Glitch In The System from long ago; I found out, after playing it for perhaps thousands of hours on the Gamecube, that the development team was bought by Blizzard. A year later World Of Warcraft came out, and I could instantly see their wacky, disgusting sense of humor shining through.
I got my first Spyro game when I was like 4 years old (around 2002), it was Year of the Dragon, and from there I was hooked, went back and played the first 2, and to this day, still my favorite game franchise.
Yeah same here, I thought it was going to be like a Nintendo Direct and are like "One more thing" type reveal at the end, but I guess not, still a goofy fake out.
I loved this retrospective! I didn't realize Tom Clancy did all those Dragon's voices. I knew he did the voice of the original Cortex and Baron Praxis in Jak 2. I found it all very interesting having being a kid when Spyro came on to the scene. I played the Reignited Trilogy this year and loved it. Thanks for doing this great iceberg video into Spyro!
Closest thing I've got to an obscure fact is that Nanny from A Hero's Tail is officially named 'Mrs Shoutfire'...all cutscenes and interactions just list her as 'Nanny', but the menu itself gives her full name, and evidently not a lot of people checked this, because until I updated the Spyro Wiki page to include it, that name wasn't anywhere online! It's quite fun to see the name popping up on fanart now. :)
If it’s any consolation, even though Spyro community’s coming and it’s great, I like to think that Spyro original, the legend, and Skylanders are connected… chronically.
All the editing with Spyro, Crash, etc on screen like in the intro are phenomenal! Also Gnasty Booty sounds like a title straight from Ratchet & Clank 😂😂
Dang! That's a lot of stuff not even I knew about! This was amazing, thank you so much for all the time and effort you went through to get this to us! I always thought the elders stood on two legs because they had stronger legs or something. Originally being a centaur would explain why Elora looks so different from the other fauns. Thank goodness we never got that, the edgelord Spyro show, or Agent 9 as a pig. Those would've been rough... (though the pig would've made sense, since there's space farm animals in 1 and 2!) Also, I'm very happy you mentioned the WoW quest! I did not realize the drinks were named after Skylanders though...that's neat 😮
Ok, I actually have a theory surrounding Aquaria Towers now that we know it was originally in Spyro 1, or atleast planned to be in. Ever notice that Gnorc Gnexus is surrounded by water? And Gnorc Gnexus was originally planned to be alot bigger (most likely a stripped down "machinists" world). Well I actually believe that both the hub and towers share the same base, since both were either scrapped or cut down, and both have a similar industrial type of theme. Even by looking at Aquaria Towers, I can see where 2 possible portals could have been placed (towers 1 and 2). I feel these 2 places goes on deeper than any of us actually realize. Reply to this if you have any other possible theories to expand on this.
This might be plausible as a theory, I wonder if Insomniac has some old design documents showing what was planned for Spyro 1 when it was considered to put in Swimming, CGE has access to that big Spyro Design document, so you never know, maybe there's something there CGE will get to eventually, talking about this wild ride, he did tease he is going to talk about it more, so yep.
I actually knew about quite a few of these facts, even the ones in the Abyss section, but there were some here I didn't know about. Also great job on the video. It kept my interest throughout, despite being almost an hour long. Great job, CGE! Happy 25th Anniversary to Spyro! (And 27th Anniversary to Crash)
Tiny head with classic Spyro is the best combination. He looks so chonky. Also Spyro just wanting orbs and not caring, gotta remember he just wanted a holiday at Dragon Shores and was rudely intercepted, summoned and forced to go after Ripto. I love his IDGAF attitude
With your fact at 24:19, I remember that tiny island with the health being in the original version on my disk. However my disk seemed to be unique as some levels reused music from other levels instead of having their own music. Unfortunately my original disk finally gave up the ghost just before reignited released and has been framed in honor of the many MANY hours of fun it gave me :D
This island is indeed present in all retail versions of the original game, however, the sparkles that lead there never appear, so you can't get there without hacking the game
Definitely weird to write off the Sheila/Crash comparison as "very subtle" without even acknowledging that the names for those egg challenges are "Krash Kangaroo" and "Krash Kangaroo 2" but otherwise well done video!
Still have my fingers crossed for a new Spyro game to be announced before the year is out. Also, never had heard of that Spyro Revolution show concept. Part of me is intrigued but another part is facepalming.
There was also a Spyro movie in production that was canceled when Activision bought the right to the game. From what I have heard the movie would have been a prequel to the entire series with Spyro origin story as a hatchling. Which in my opinion would have been super fun to see. The movie was around 2/3 done and was going to have the same actors as the legend games.
25:04 fun fact you can trigger the easiest difficulty by something to do with the demo mode playing before you start. It invalidates speedruns because its the easy "demo" version of the game.
Hey dude. Long time no see or comment via livestream. Suuuch a busy summer but now that things have cooled off I'll be returning for more and more Spyro/Crash discussions than months previous. Just wanted to mention that without watching even watching an increment of this iceberg video that the creators' version of a dragon was literally a t-rex with wings exploring about and collecting objects. The rest is clouded out 'cause this was based off a year's worth of info memoryxD
Spyro 1-3 are still being one of my absolutely favorite games. I love these wonderfull creations of Insomiac. Sure, the time to work on each title was just a year, but Insomiac had a year between their very first game called Disruptor and Spyro one, so they could get into this three-piece project enough and polished their programming techniques. Without these tactics, it had been narrowly impossible for them to create the three masterpieces in a row. Thx. for your video. It's great and at the end some of the info I've known actually not till watching it. :)
My brain wandered to Legend of Spyro. What if OG Spyro crossed over to their world? SPYRO: "Where's Malefor? I'll toast him!" CHRONICLER: "Not yet, Spyro. You're not ready. Focus on collecting guardians first."
Skylanders wasn't a bad series, it just wasn't spyro, when I found out that toys for Bob was doing the remakes I had faith that they'd get it right. Skylanders may not be the most engaging game out there, but it's absolutely a gorgeous game series, and I think that really shows with the reignited trilogy
Wow I based my Dragonflight character after Spyro and named them Spyrathos....I didn't know about that side quest.... Imma have to start playing again..
yes! finally! a spyro iceberg video that actually acknowledges Legend of Spyro AND Skylanders! whether some people like I or not, they ARE part of the series, and they have a ton of trivia to practically warrant their own icebergs... in any case, I'm at least glad to see them mentioned :p
Holy cow 25 years, already!!!!??? Well Happy birthday Spyro!!! Man between him and Sonic I just feel so excited to have these games in our lives. Here's to hoping more to come from our purple fire breathing dragon best boi!! (I haven't watched the 7 hour stream yet, but I assume no new game announcement happened?)
It's interesting how you call them remasters, but then mention how Toys For Bob had to "remake three games from the ground up." They absolutely are remakes. Very faithful remakes 😁 Great video dude. There's a lot of new trivia I didn't know.
i wonder if the reason the "You gotta believe" was botched was they just kept the original lines and honestly didnt know wtf it was for. I never knew what it was for for the longest time and always thought it was a weird line.
I didn’t know what it was either since I’ve never even heard of parappa the rapper (I thought he was a 90s rapper lol) so maybe Tom Kenny didn’t get the reference either.
The reason why Year of the Dragon had skateboarding was to promote Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Hunter even had Spyro do The 900. Tony Hawk's signature trick
Boy you smell that? Smells like a long Spyro the dragon video. Gotta love drawn out Spyro the dragon videos. Lol. Also I really love the soundtrack playing in the background.
Very glad they didn't do an underwater Homeworld, I have a serious irrational fear of dark water and genuinely wouldn't have been able to complete the game. I can barely deal with aquaria towers
There's a few details I'm shocked didn't make it on the iceberg such as the existence of mobile Spyro games, Spyro McDonald's games, and an official Spyro website that took many different forms over the years.
Okay, now I can just imagine a board office of people Manager: Okay, any ideas to advertise the new Spyro game Worker 1: Maybe put pictures of the game in a magazine Worker 2: No, I have a better idea! 37:48 Worker 1: That looks and sounds like poop Manager: I LOVE IT
This was an amazing video! Loved how you post it together. I was thought it would be interesting though to see a Spyro reignited trilogy tv show! If there could be one, should it include all lore and idea from all Spyro games. Like have villains like Gnasty, Ripto, The Sorceress and lastly from the legends have Malefor as main villains. It would be interesting to see and even have elder dragons but also dragons named Cynder, Ember, and Flame. Maybe introduce a brand-new dragon that's the same age as Spyro. The Tv show will be like the games and follows the purple boy wherever he left off from reignited. This is an idea I thought of and talked about to myself. Although I feel like it'll be too much. I wonder what your thoughts are on this idea. Could a Spyro tv show happen or should it be a game.
The 2D areas with Sheila are literally named in the Atlas as "Krash Kangaroo" and "Krash Kangaroo II", it's not even that subtle. Also, I think you know there's a little more to Spyro's cameo in Crash Twinsanity than just a cross-promotion of each other's games (which obviously happened multiple times), but I guess that was too much info for a single iceberg video based solely on Spyro
Crash actually had more cameos in Spyro games. In the Eternal Night you can see Crash stuck under the frozen ice in the White Isle level. And in the DS version of A New Beginning you can see Crash tied up under a fire camp in the Dante’s Freezer level.
I feel like the remake was still doing the Parappa reference, especially with Spyro's knowing chuckle, just they weren't NEARLY as on point with the delivery, sounds more like a Dad referencing that stupid game he saw one time. Many agree that voice direction wasn't nearly as on point with the remakes. I always found it weird that they bothered to add loads of playables in Spyro 3 but it took until a Hero's Tail for Hunter to be playable, while some others like Bianca just never got a proper turn. Oh and the Spongebob links don't end there. Spyro 3 Zoe was Sandy Cheeks as well. :P
I'd imagine there was probably an abject lack of voice direction, who at TFB is going to tell Tom Kenny how to a deliver a line? It was probably recorded before some of their staff were born. None of the people who wrote the lines were involved, so it's all down to the voice actor's best guess on the day.
Good thing they decided to add the S and make it Spyro cause he could get mix up with the X-Men villain Pyro. Sure that guy is human but same name would of made it tricky to find the dragon Pyro when all you get is the mutant man who can control fire like it’s a toy.
(Coming here late) the Gnorc Gun issue never sat well with me because they let it slide in Spyro 3 at Dino Mines but found this something to be weary about ???
Three things no one's gonna really care about but for anyone who wants to read this, here you go. 1. When I was little, I basically headcanoned that Gildas from Stone Hill was Spyro's dad. I don't know why other than I thought he was really nice and seems very fatherly I guess. The Reignited design just kinda cements that for me. 2. Half of my family has the "3d sickness" and cannot play it or even watch someone else play it for more than 10 minutes or else they'll get sick. Luckily I didn't inherit that... 3. Did anyone else who looked in the manual and saw the adult Spyro get really excited that they might make a game where you actually get to fly around? another thing I'm not really sure about but I hope someone maybe can help me with... when I was a kid I vividly remember playing this game on an Xbox 360 that I thought was Dawn of the Dragon (since I knew in that game you had free flight.) But it wasn't. In this game it was like TRUE free flight and you weren't connected to anybody else. I remember you could collect fire and magic increase items like in Eternal Night. I'm wondering if anyone somehow knows what I'm talking about or if that was just the most realistic dream I've ever had.
I don’t think that 35:32 theory true as you can see in skylanders Lore the Ancients created the world of skylands by using mind magic so I think that theory might be false

Thanks for that trivia, that's genuinely interesting! :D
The voice actor for Sandy was also brought in for Spyro 3 to voice Elora, likely through Tom Kenny's connection haha

In-game dialog for AHT actually lists her as "Nanny Shoutfire".
Source: I have the game and play it.
I never would of expected an iceberg video from CGE about Spyro but I’m always happy to see CGE expand his content. Also happy birthday Spyro
0:42 The Tip
6:16 The Body
14:57 The Surface
22:58 Open Water
30:43 Bottom of Iceberg
40:45 The Abyss
If it’s any consolation, even though Spyro community’s coming and it’s great, I like to think that Spyro original, the legend, and Skylanders are connected… chronically.
This is such an amazing video! Thanks for the memories and many more to come from both the fanbase and Spyro himself!
This was fantastic and wonderful to watch!
It was fun to learn more about him. Thank you for taking the time for making this!~
All the editing with Spyro, Crash, etc on screen like in the intro are phenomenal!
Also Gnasty Booty sounds like a title straight from Ratchet & Clank 😂😂
25 years of Spyro! What a time.
(though the pig would've made sense, since there's space farm animals in 1 and 2!)
Also, I'm very happy you mentioned the WoW quest! I did not realize the drinks were named after Skylanders though...that's neat 😮
17:26 Sgt Byrd and Bentley also received additional lines in their show of captivity.
Great video!
At 24:45, the island with 3 lives that the whirlind takes you to is also in the original, if you weren't sure.
This was an awesome video, CGE!
Woah
Great video
Definitely worth the wait
Keep up the good work
How about the fact that some laser tag places uses the "Fireworks Factory" Theme from Spyro 3
Another amazing video, as always. Keep up the great work 😁
4:59 thank you SO MUCH for getting this information accurate, especially regarding the Reignited Trilogy; so many people get this wrong!
Amazing video man for an amazing game series that I’ve loved since I was a kid
Fantastic video. This needed to be done.
Wow, this is quite the endeavour, CGE! Can’t wait to watch!!
Hindsight is 20/20 my compromise for the twilight harbor guns would be leave the reignited design but have them shoot something like lava
25:04 fun fact you can trigger the easiest difficulty by something to do with the demo mode playing before you start.
It invalidates speedruns because its the easy "demo" version of the game.
Amazing video! Loved every second 👏🏻 Keep them coming please 😊
I'll toast him!"
CHRONICLER: "Not yet, Spyro. You're not ready. Focus on collecting guardians first."
These were awesome!
Amazing Video! Great Work CGE! ❤
Holy cow 25 years, already!!!!??? Well Happy birthday Spyro!!! Man between him and Sonic I just feel so excited to have these games in our lives. Here's to hoping more to come from our purple fire breathing dragon best boi!!
(I haven't watched the 7 hour stream yet, but I assume no new game announcement happened?)
love you Canadian guy! cant wait to grab my popcorn and watch this masterpiece 😂
25 years of spyro? Time does fly.
Here’s hoping TFB makes a spyro 4 soon.
Gnice! Loved every bit of it.
It's interesting how you call them remasters, but then mention how Toys For Bob had to "remake three games from the ground up."
They absolutely are remakes. Very faithful remakes 😁
Great video dude. There's a lot of new trivia I didn't know.
i wonder if the reason the "You gotta believe" was botched was they just kept the original lines and honestly didnt know wtf it was for.
I never knew what it was for for the longest time and always thought it was a weird line.
I didn’t know what it was either since I’ve never even heard of parappa the rapper (I thought he was a 90s rapper lol) so maybe Tom Kenny didn’t get the reference either.
this is an amazing video!
The reason why Year of the Dragon had skateboarding was to promote Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Hunter even had Spyro do The 900. Tony Hawk's signature trick
I legit love the skateboard rink in Enchanted Towers. In fact I was playing it today to celebrate the purple boy’s anniversary 🎉
I don't know what people are complaining about. I LOVE Sheila's redesign in Reignited.
I had always heard that SPIRO meant “to breathe” not “breath” both versions fit Spyro though!
Spyro= To breathe fire!
There's a few details I'm shocked didn't make it on the iceberg such as the existence of mobile Spyro games, Spyro McDonald's games, and an official Spyro website that took many different forms over the years.
Would be a dream come true if they remade season of ice and season of flame in full 3D in the reignited engine
Okay, now I can just imagine a board office of people
Manager: Okay, any ideas to advertise the new Spyro game
Worker 1: Maybe put pictures of the game in a magazine
Worker 2: No, I have a better idea!
37:48
Worker 1: That looks and sounds like poop
Manager: I LOVE IT
This was an amazing video!
I really want a classic Spyro tv show so badly!!
@@DoofenSpyroDragon16 me too! That would be awesome and amazing. I wonder how it'll work. It'll be cool!
I think the cut Elora narration during the beginning and ending cutscenes of Spyro 2 should’ve been here.
Happy birthday Spyro my childhood, I am now 35 years old .
This is gonna be EPIC
What I never understood is why they didn't get the VAs for Zoe and faries to voice dragons to have female dragons
In the first Spyro, the fairies didn't speak, so there were no female voice actors
Remarkable stuff. That last fact was quite interesting.
20:54 There's a faint outline left for hair on Sheila's head too. No doubt removed in the sketch phase to make it easier to model on a PS1.
4:54 "but Spyro Reignited was Activision's very first project using this world renowned engine"
Crash N.sane Trilogy: Am I a joke to you?
The bosses in spyro 3 were heavily censored in the ways they died
37:49 I remember seeing that commercial on my TV and was like “what the heck is this”
I feel like the remake was still doing the Parappa reference, especially with Spyro's knowing chuckle, just they weren't NEARLY as on point with the delivery, sounds more like a Dad referencing that stupid game he saw one time.
And the electrolls from Hurricos sound exactly like SpongeBob in the original game!
I'd imagine there was probably an abject lack of voice direction, who at TFB is going to tell Tom Kenny how to a deliver a line? It was probably recorded before some of their staff were born. None of the people who wrote the lines were involved, so it's all down to the voice actor's best guess on the day.
Happy Birthday Spyro 🎉
Happy Spyro 25Year Anniversary
Good thing they decided to add the S and make it Spyro cause he could get mix up with the X-Men villain Pyro. Sure that guy is human but same name would of made it tricky to find the dragon Pyro when all you get is the mutant man who can control fire like it’s a toy.
I wonder if when spyro gets added to rumble if he'll have an updated model as a hint to Spyro 4 being in the works
I love Spyro, he’s a cute little dragon, Activision really needs to let Nintendo have him in Smash Bros.
Great video!
Is just my opinion I know malfore made his debut in the comics but this is a separate malefore
30:30 heh. Spyro takes a big steppy.
Meme over, good day.
If you pull backwards on the control stick, Reignited Spyro can flutter his wings to land more slowly.
