About The Game:
Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game franchise created and produced by Sega. The franchise centers on a series of speed-based platform games. The protagonist of the series is an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog named Sonic, whose peaceful life is often interrupted by the series' main antagonist, Doctor Eggman. Typically, Sonic-usually along with some of his friends, such as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles-must stop Eggman and foil any plans of world domination. The first game in the series, released in 1991, was conceived by Sega's Sonic Team division after Sega requested a mascot character. The title was a success, it spawned many sequels, and it transformed Sega into a leading video game company during the 16-bit era in the early to mid 1990s.

As someone who still has a positive outlook on a ton of the 3D sonic games, the intro was to show that we've been burned a few times.

I don't think anyone likes Big THAT much. It was a shame that one of the two times he was playable was a "terrible fishing game" as people say. (I haven't played it.) Personally, I think more people would have liked him if he was implemented into the games better.
If I were to rate myself on the scale you described Oxymoron, I would but myself between "casual" and "hardcore," but I really don't like using those terms to describe what type of gamer I am. I am a gamer, plain and simple. I can't even think off a time I would use those terms outside of game difficulty.

What changed? The same thing that made Alex from a specific video say Ocarina of Time is one of the greatest video games of all time when earlier he said it aged horribly. A little something called trying to fit in.
I think that people need to consider that the version of Sonic you grew up with is the one you will prefer. We all joined in different eras and love those games.

@Retcon I think it's more of the fact that the 3D fans are a bit sensitive, because their games are always picked on by the gaming media. I mean one bad 3D Sonic game comes out and it's back to " Sonic is never good " memes. While 2D Sonic has had bad games like Sonic Labyrinth and the media doesn't say anything. There's also bandwagons when it comes to the 3D games, one moment Sonic Adventure is good, the next, it's "just as bad as the other 3D games ", you would be tired of all this BS.
I would give anything to get people to fucking shut up about the Adventure series... I've heard enough people talk about it, I don't want to hear anymore.
Retcon Im A fan of Sprite art games I will admit it does that make me a hater? And the only reason you hear about the Adventure series is because they were the first 3D Sonics after the Sprite base games and no one wanted a more 3D Sonics. The appeal wore off is the best way I could explain it. They might not of been bad but that's not what people wanted from Sonic.

graywolf the 45th I wholeheartedly agree with you. I wish they would renew it and bring it back. But I think the reason why it’s been canceled, is what you’re seeing in the comment section here. Everyone probably roasted it so much, that the creators just said nobody likes it, let’s pull it off of TV. When in fact I’m sure there are many people who liked it, and enjoyed watching it, more than there were people hating it and saying it was bad. And by roasting in saying it’s bad, I’m talking about the people who are crapping on the 3-D games. Yes there were some bad ones, but there were some good ones too. And the fact that people are forgetting about other games that exist in the sonic universe. TLDR, the naysayers are the fact that the show isn’t on TV anymore.
I'd like the Boom cartoon more if it just took place in the main canon imo.
The show's not that great. It's okay, but there isn't much substance. They don't really do anything interesting or live in an interesting world, where the main characters are the most interesting. I'd prefer it that a lot of random characters also had special abilities or something, but just focused on Sonic. It's not bad, but a lot of missed potential.

Man, the devs really hit the nail on the head with that new DLC, didn't they?
I swear, every self-proclaimed "Sonic fan" with a decent UA-cam following all of a sudden wants to hate on Colors and Generations. Flawed and not perfect sure, but don't undermine those games. Colors being so good led to Generations, which has eventually lead to that small boost Sonic needed to even arrive here at Mania and Forces.
Sonic now has two different sprinting animations: "Fast", and "Anime Fast."

Gotta love all the butt hurt fans in the comments mincing Jirard's words to make it seem like he hates every Sonic game since the first few. "Good" does not equal "amazing" or "truly incredible". Good does not mean trash. Matt even says "...there's been a handful of stand out Sonic titles since the good old days and a few have them have even come really close to recapturing the magic of those first few classic game, but none of them have been quite able to match the style or quality of the games...". As he called the first few "amazing" it's hard to argue that any future Sonic game reached those heights. You can think the classic games are terrible and that's fine. But that doesn't give any prick the right to disrespect others views, no matter how unpopular it may be. I don't like the classic games. I feel bad now. All we want from Sonic is a trip back to the past, while his rival, Mario keeps evolving. Sonic's evolution to 3D is not as smooth as Mario, sure, but we need to let Sonic grows rather than letting him forever be a pixel nostalgic trip.
Sonic Colors and Generations are both good Sonic games, modern sonic hate is as strong as ever.
Zero space053 Unleashed was good too. So were the DS games(except Chronicles)
Tanner Price I would include Unleashed but thats the players choice, for me I love unleashed. The night time stages are fun and day time stages are my fav part. Day time sonics biggest issue is his drift but they improved and learned from it in Colors and generations so Im fine with it.

It's actually good to see a classic franchise go back to its roots. This, along with Crash (no need to get competitive) finally received the treatment it needed, although I personally wish that the Crash remasters had some new levels.

People really need to learn to LISTEN. So many people who enjoy modern sonic games are getting up in arms over absolutely nothing.
He never said modern sonic sucked, he never said modern sonic was terrible.
What he basically said is that the modern sonics are not very stable, sometimes they are pretty damn good sometimes they are just meh and then other times its more like "WTF IS THIS?!"
He also said something to the extent of "Some of them came close to being as good as the older games" which means he admits that some of the modern sonic games were pretty good. Yeah he still said they aren't as good but he absolutely did not say all modern sonic games were trash.
People are allowed to have opinions, stop acting like someones opinions are somehow victimizing your own, they aren't especially in cases like this....he didn't even attack modern sonic you are just making it SOUND like he did...do you NEED to feel like your opinions are being attacked? because they arent.

If being "unstable" is a great issue then that logic easily applies to the classic games,borderline bad level design and several game breaking bugs is far from being different or better than what the modern games have.
Again,putting the classics in such a high place is hardly being fair or giving a real review instead of a biased opinion ,games like Generations and Unleashed are easily on par with most of the classics.

Inquisitor Of Extreme Prejudice how is my taste the same as danks, he was being sarcastic whereas I don't like generations. The reason I think generations is overhyped is also very simple, you can 100% it in one weekend and it isn't a multiplayer focused game.
Adventure DX has aged badly but the adventure games are solid games. More fun then Mario sunshine in my opinion.

This is more than glorifying a really good game (which is very good), that is irrationally trashing on honestly good games. Every good franchise has it's less well made games. Mario has sunshine, Zelda has 2 and skyward sword, Mega Man has 8, and X7. True, Sonic has more than a few bad games, but trashing colors, generations, SA1/2 because it isn't Sonic 4 the genesis? That is beyond professional praising a good game. I expected better from the guy who stood up to defend Sonic Unleashed...

Adventure 1 blew my mind when I first played it, it's so fun and over the top. Adventure 2 immersed me with its story and B movie atmosphere. Heroes had a nice, pure challenge. Colors is similar, but Generations has the best gameplay in the entire series. Those games were more amazing to me than classics, despite starting with Advance series with similar gameplay style.

seeing flying battery, hydrocity and lava reef return brought back so many childhood memories of sonic 3 & knuckles, it being the first sonic game I ever played

They aren't bad but they aren't outstanding either, they are just pretty meh
I love those games as much as anyone else, but when you think about it, they weren't amazing. The Tails/Eggman stages were bad, and the treasure hunt stages weren't good imo. The only really good parts were the Sonic/Shadow stages and the chao garden

The only recent good Sonic games have been Colors and Generations, and I have high hopes for Forces, despite what I've seen, it seems like Sega has finally recaptured what we want, some want a game like Mania, some want a game like Forces, let's just hope Sega and the Sonic team have got their shit together.
I honestly agree with you but also think that there shouldn't be something to worry about, i mean Forces is just Generations 2 IMO plus the OC which seems to be just Modern with gadgets instead of boost, so i don't think we're gonna get dissapointed unless you're purposely looking to feel that way
Forces look amazing imho. But hey, I'm truly glad that Mania is here to cater Nostalgic fans because I'm more a Modern player myself. Hope SEGA would just stick to Mania-esque and Generations-esque games for the future

Regarding the period of the "dark age" of Sonic - it was over when Sonic Colours was released. Unfortunately, SEGA decided to start a new dark age with the release of Sonic Boom, Sonic Lost Worlds being it's ambassador. But alas, we have been saved by Christian and Headcannon, thank you so much!

FUN FACT: If you have Sonic Mania Plus getting all the gold medals will let you play the pinball bonus stage from Encore Mode in the main mode. Pretty neat! You can also get really good at that bonus stage making it relatively easy to max out the lives counter, just takes a lifetime.
