ngl, despite Simon & Garfunkel being my absolute favorite musical act of all time I never thought to question why that track was listed as the "overdubbed version"

One important fact about Tom Wilson that you didn't mention is that he also produced the first 2 records for the Mothers of Invention, Frank Zappa's band. First came the double album debut called "Freak Out" in 1966, then the second album called "Absolutely Free" in 1967. While recording and mixing the tapes, Zappa would sit in the control room with Wilson, who would teach him all the basics of professional recording. By the time Zappa & the Mothers recorded their third album, Zappa would be the producer, and as a thank you, Zappa put Tom Wilson on the album cover, which was a parody of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper. Because of legal reasons, the cover parody originally appeared on the inside of the gatefold cover. Tom Wilson appears in a corner wearing a sweater, and yes that is Jimi Hendrix himself and not a cutout, he happened to be in another studio and Zappa saw him & invited him to the photo session. Zappa would go on to produce close to 60 albums in his lifetime, and that's not counting the albums produced for other artists. Zappa would never forget the help Tom Wilson gave him at the start, he's the one who recommended them to Verve records, and got them signed, and Zappa, who was extremely critical of most people, had nothing but nice things to say about Tom Wilson, and always gave him thanks...

Hello again Dara; great feature! If I had already heard about insufficiently credited Black producer Tom Wilson, it must not have been frequent, as I have no recollection of it. If Simon and Garfunkel had all the same material through their career, but happened to be Black instead, I doubt they would have had as much success considering the state of racism the industry in the 1960’s. I know about he Supremes and other Black hitmakers back then, but of course every one of them knew of racism and I am sure every one of them experienced it in some ways despite the success. I like the original acoustic version of “The Sounds Of Silence” too, but Tom did great work with the song. I was impressed with how Bob Dylan’s music branched out with Tom’s influence. That album you called Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” album was actually titled “Highway 61 Revisited.” Although Simon and Garfunkel’s first album “Wednesday Morning, 3 am” did not chart originally, upon rerelease it entered the Billboard album chart in January 1966, eventually peaking at #30, almost as high as the second Simon and Garfunkel album “Sounds of Silence” which entered in February 1966 and which peaked at #21. The reggae portion in the song “The Spirit Of Radio” by Rush has lyrics inspired by the song "The Sound of Silence" without crediting Paul or Artie. Have a nice day!

Thanks for sharing this interesting piece of history! I've actually never listened to the remixed version before, I didn't even know that it existed! I think Spotify suggested the original version to me instead of the remixed one, and from looking at the stats on the Simon & Garfunkel's Spotify page, it looks like the popularity has now flipped around as original version is the more played one (second most played of all their songs in fact). Now I'm wondering if others like me who has only ever listened to this song on streaming services also experienced the situation of never having heard of the remixed version.

This wasn't never told Simon & Garfunkel was started by a black man this never was told. I think that shouldn't happen but it did.
I find your make up interesting because on this video is more brown, but in your video with Dr Dan McClellan, your choice in make up color rivaled the doctors skin color. 🤔🤔🤔
Why do you not allow comments about your elvis video? Because if u look up on how he was discovered, you see how his upbringing shared so much with the local black community. Sun records were looking for a Bridge between the communities and found it in Elvis, by accident. And this is also why 60s British bands loved Elvis so much and were shocked when they saw segregation on their early tours. Like jazz great Brubeck, Elvis cleared the way for white musicians to mix with black musicians.
