Your depth and sensitivity in researching and presenting the very human backstory behind some of the greatest music ever produced just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for your time and energy. The music makes our lives better. The stories bring the music more life, thereby making our lives even better.
This song to me explains how I feel when I’m in deep depression that I’ve been dealing with since I was in my teens and it still holds true now that I’m in my 50’s.
I prefer the original. The electric guitar mix sucks on Wilson’s re-recording/remix. The electric guitar player on Wilson’s session hated the way his guitar was mixed... This is more apparent on good headphones.
The reason Wilson put the rock 'n' roll backtrack was because a disc jockeys in Boston and Florida played the original song on the air and it got many requests. It was what led Wilson to revive the song.
First of all, I found your report on how the Sound of Silence by Art and Simon came to be a mainstream song to be very enlightening. Second, your song at the end of the video was very Sgt. Pepper and very well done.
Fist off...good video. Love me some Simon and Garfunkel. Thanks Instead of a song how about an album? A concept album. How about "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars" from David Bowie? Edit. Almost forgot. Good song. Cannonball Express. But I think you can do better for your own songs. Videowise that is.
I can't honestly say I have complete track of everything you've done (though I must take the opportunity to say you do put out A LOT of great content!), but I would've found it interesting if you'd done Bob Dylan's "The Ballad of a Thin Man"
Howzabout ELO’s entire “Concerto for A Rainy Day”? I always play “Believe Me Now” as a prelude and “The Whale” as a postlude. You’ve got a great thing going with this effort. Thank you!
The imagery of BOTH Sound Of Silence: "...'neath the halo of a street lamp, I turn my collar to the cold and damp, when my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light that split the night" AND I Am A Rock: "...A winter's day in a deep and dark December. I am alone. Gazing from my window, to the street below, on a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow" -- stick with me to this day. Not to mention Bridge Over Troubled Water and many others.
Dude that's crazy. When I was a teenager in high school and was in the first few years of playing the guitar I used to do the same exact thing. I would sit in the bathroom with the lights off so that only the ambient light from the moon and the street lights would seep in the skylight and play all night long. I wrote a ton of songs in there. None as good as Sounds of Silence I'm sure.. but still. That's awesome.
Wow! If not Trolls 2 cartoon I might never discovered this great song(one of the best folk song) !!! Thank you for this great explanation. So impressed.
One thing I find interesting about The Sound of Silence is that although it came out in 1964, it was quietly renamed in the early 70's without explanation. Before then, it was called The Sounds of Silence, plural. The new name still feels "wrong" to me, like it was a mistake by someone who didn't know the real name of the song that somehow stuck. This is compounded by them retaining the original name on reissues of the albums from the 60's. So it's only The Sound of Silence on compilations and later-issued live albums. If you get Wednesday Morning or Sounds of Silence, it's still The Sounds of Silence.
a song with an interesting story behind it is Let's Dance The Screw by the Crystals. produced by phil spector. He made it to get out of a contract by making the worst song he could, with basically zero effort put into the production as possible. I dont want to spoil too much if you haven't heard it. Its a bit of a departure but it'd make a good video. (and besides, phil spector.)
I would like you to please do as a concise and thought provoking run down of the song "Gimme Shelter" focusing upon Keith Richards phenomenal orchestration of music and his taking over the role of leader from Brian Jones another casualty of drugs lost. Thank you! -Elizabeth
You missed the crucial part of the story. After the failure of the original "A late-night disc jockey at WBZ in Boston began to spin "The Sound of Silence" where it found a college demographic." The song traveled down east coast colleges and was a huge cult favourite. This is what prompted Wilson to do the remix. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sound_of_Silence#Remix
Lovely video on a very beautiful song. Would very much appreciate hearing your thoughts on any of the following... ELO - Can't Get It Out Of My Head, Queen - Love of My Life, George Harrison - Isn't It a Pity, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, Bob Dylan - Visions Of Joanna, Buffalo Springfield - For What Its Worth, Led zeppelin - Kashmir, REM - Losing My Religion. Love - Alone Again Or The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset But whatever you focus your HollyHobness upon next, I will lap up, value and enjoy :D
Klaatu's "Sub Rosa Subway", Nazz's "Under The Ice", Yardbirds' "Mister Your A Better Man Than I". If you want more from the Beatles, Your songs sound more like their next album than Jeff Lynn promised with his band Electric Light Orchestra. That is a complement Sri HollyHobs sobHylloH irS. P.S. "Shame Shame Shame" Shirley and Company. "Homburg" Procol Harum. Carry On Sir.
This song was a melancholy forecast of a Dystopian Society which is still evolving. Many already 'Worship the Neon God they made', this describes obsession with those who have fame and celebrity, and shallow consumerism...does it not?
I like to sing while I take a crap too. I'm no Paul Simon but I had a great audience in the other stalls at the movie theater men's room and i have 50 subscribers on my 10 year old youtube channel.
this is that story of "homeward boned" not "the Sounds of Silence" but the end is right and also art wrote "the Sounds of Silence" and sorry am a such Simon and Garfunkel nerd
Maybe I’m amazed, however like to hear you keep branching beyond the Beatles. Maybe keep to the big bands and big songs like this until you m are sure you keep up the views then look at doing some of the big interesting songs from different genres. London calling the clash, pink Floyd, bee gees, Elton John, then find some songs that have real depth that you wouldn’t expect
Simon and Garfunkel made some truly beautiful timeless music.
Your depth and sensitivity in researching and presenting the very human backstory behind some of the greatest music ever produced just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for your time and energy. The music makes our lives better. The stories bring the music more life, thereby making our lives even better.
Did you write that yourself?
Simon and Garfunkel has created many beautiful music for the world
I have loved "Sound of Silence" since it first came out, and fell more in love with it the 2nd time it came out. Thank you.
Interesting information... How about the song "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" that would be interesting... Thank you for your efforts and video... Greg
Has anybody else only listened to the original version with no drums or electric guitar until now?
This song to me explains how I feel when I’m in deep depression that I’ve been dealing with since I was in my teens and it still holds true now that I’m in my 50’s.
Another one of my favorites! Thank you for reminding me of this masterpiece :D
You should do “Father and son” by Cat Stevens. Thanks!
Please do more Simon & Garfunkel content!!
Billy Joel - Miami 2017 I see him everytime in your intro but you have never done a video about him
great vid, please do more videos about Simon and Garfunkel!
So the producer secretly overdubbed a more lively backing track to the song, then the song became popular, that's genius.
PLS Review Like a Rolling Stone or Stuck in Mobile with the Memphis Blues again
"Heart of the Sunrise", by Yes.
love this class channel xx
I really enjoy your UA-cam broadcasts and original material. Have you done songs from other decades eg Dire Straits Sultans of Swing etc?
Hollyhobs … the video and your song are very nice. In the song you notice your passion for the Beatles. Did you explain all their songs?
I prefer the original. The electric guitar mix sucks on Wilson’s re-recording/remix. The electric guitar player on Wilson’s session hated the way his guitar was mixed... This is more apparent on good headphones.
A very informative video! Thanks for letting me know about one of my favorite S&G songs! :)
"Heroes" By David Bowie please. :)

Great piece of original music with a psychedelic Beatles flair.

Huge fan of yours. Would love you to cover The Doors in a video
Beautifully done! :)
Fist off...good video. Love me some Simon and Garfunkel. Thanks

You're a great songwriter!
Lovely song, very Beatles-esk. Enjoyed the album on Spotify 👍🏼

Howzabout ELO’s entire “Concerto for A Rainy Day”? I always play “Believe Me Now” as a prelude and “The Whale” as a postlude. You’ve got a great thing going with this effort. Thank you!

Dude that's crazy.

I am planning to learn how to play and sing along this song with my ukulele 🥰

Band on the run!
5:29 'But, he was in love with a girl named Kathy, yes, that Kathy from their other hit, America.'
And how about 'KATHY's SONG'?
The song predicted the coming Dystopian society, the loss of attachment and belonging, in a sensitive way.
I suggest you take a look at either `Trouble Coming Every Day' or `Brown Shoes Don't Make It' by the Mothers of Invention.
Do one of your songs
great video!
I would like you to please do as a concise and thought provoking run down of the song "Gimme Shelter" focusing upon Keith Richards phenomenal orchestration of music and his taking over the role of leader from Brian Jones another casualty of drugs lost. Thank you! -Elizabeth
Stairway to Heaven - if you haven’t already done it. Love your videos.
Hard to believe we’re at the 50th anniversary of the Graduate soundtrack. Great song, but I’m more of a Scarborough Fair kind of guy myself
